It was only a demo at the end of the day, but it really does feel like P.T. was one of the defining releases of the PlayStation 4 era. The short “playable teaser” – which Konami used to announce the defunct Silent Hills – went on to influence dozens of games, and its presence on the PlayStation Store was so large that the publisher eventually removed it. Many, then, have been wondering if the demo will play on the PlayStation 5.
Officially, the answer is no, and here’s what the Japanese company told Games Radar about the matter: “The content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5.” However, we know that it’ll be possible to transfer data from your PS4 to the PS5, and therefore if you still have the game installed on your hard drive, it may be possible to move the files across.
We’ll need to wait a few more weeks for official confirmation, but someone will surely come up with a definitive answer next month. Were you hoping to revisit P.T. on your PS5 at all? Don’t look in the bathroom basin in the comments section below.

Well, it’s more that it won’t download from the official servers on PS5. It remains to be seen whether it plays on PS5 and that’ll depend on how quickly the PS5 is cracked.
I’ve still got it installed but we will know the answer on the 12th anyway. Where as I have to wait for the 19th
People are still holding on to this thing ??? Just let it go
I wonder if Konami will ever rerelease it as a "free teaser of what could have been".
Konami should stop being d***s and just make it available again, even sell it as a game and make money like they used to
Last week I bought an external SSD for my PS4 games to use on PS5 whenever they release a game that makes me want to buy one, since FF16 isn't exclusive, and I purposely left P.T. on my PS4 Pro exactly because of this.
Absolutely no surprise and only increases my hatred of them ***** KONAMI and all that just like The Grudge never forget never forgive
The ways Konami continues to either ignore or crap all over this work of horror art never fail to infuriate me.
Konami = PES and Yugioh cards.
Thats it lool.
You can redownload it using a VPN and a PC if I remember correctly, I did it when I upgraded to a Pro. Presume it still works.

@HotGoomba Well Sega did just release Golden Axed, a prototype of a Golden Axe reboot back in the early 2010s. It’s ass but they released it.
@Medic_Alert Yeah, absolutely, I read the background and it’s crazy they released it. It’s still rubbish but it’s for a good reason.
sigh
I'll try it out I guess.
The hype was never deserved but because it became so rare made it more sought after.
Just be quiet Konami! Nobody wants to hear from you unless you get your act together!
Unfortunately didn't get my hands on this demo... 😕
See, people were surprised P.T wasn't on the list for games not on backwards compatibility, but looks like it can't play on PS5 anyway.
Granted it was just a demo, so may not mean anything, but I do wonder if we'll eventually find some more games not playable on PS5.
Time will tell.
For a demo this was probably the best demo ever made and it's a shame Konami decided to remove it.
@carlos82 ***** gaming they got Pachinko machines.
That a lie you can play it on ps5! Through Remote play ▶ since you can stream ps4 games to ps5! So it ain't impossible
Add to the group
There's meant to be a copy over from PS4 tool like from the PS4 to pro.
I've still got mine on my pro so I hold out hope... For nostalgia's sake.
@Sekys
It has nothing to do with PT no being backwards compatible, Konami is saying that "[t]he content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5."
Since you can transfer games from the PS4 to the PS5 over WiFi, redownloading PT shouldn't be an issue...and Konami doesn't address whether PT will be playable if transfered.

Ultimately, what Konami did with 1) Kojima and 2) PT was completely spiteful and really soured me on them as a company.
@Ridwaano
But they live on!
I didn't have a PS4 when PT was a thing and have always wanted to play it. It looks more and more like I'll never have the chance to though:(
@Futureshark THANK YOU FOR THE LINK!
It still works, but you have to head to the comments section for some updated links and instructions on getting it reinstalled since the original link in the video description doesn't work. The SUWI installer doesn't get squid 2.7 properly anymore, so you have to download it manually first, install it, and then run the SUWI application installation before finishing with the instructions on the video.
I just followed the help from the community and the video and it's downloading now!
I still have it installed on my ps4 and I have NEVER actually played it.....yeah I'm a coward when it comes to horror games.
@lacerz Now that is far more upsetting than anything in PT
I wish they'd just re-release it, I never got a chance to play it.
@lacerz Ah right, thanks for the info
@lacerz
That is the corpse!
You will probably be able to transfer it from PS4 to PS5 and play it on PS5 this way.
@Spyroescape They actually announced a new console game at TGS, a JRPG called Eden Zero. I don't think this site even reported on it though.
@SamMR people still don't like that people want to keep this demo? Let it go.
I really don't get why they don't embrace the response to PT. I get that there's bad blood between them and Kojima, but even if they put this back on the store for twenty bucks, people would get it in droves. They literally wouldn't have to do anything further with development, they could just put it up as is.
Konami are scum
@B-I-G-DEVIL I feel your pain brother. That week will feel like a month.
@SwitchVogel In case you didn't know how hard their hate boner is for Kojima, let me illustrate something.
Recently the original MGS1 and 2 PC ports from back in the day were ported to modern OS through GOG. There were almost no other improvements/changes made other than being natively compatible with modern OS and now both xinput and directinput joypads.
Except 1 other change. They went through both games and scrubbed Kojima's name from every possible scene and credit. And with how some of that worked in MGS 1, there was a lot of re-recording involved.
Yeah, shut up konami, just shut up
@starbuck2212 It’s the fact I got have media blackout for some games that’s what irritates me most 😅😂 I’ll be fine though but yes it’s going be long painful week haha
I will never forgive Konami. They screw everyone over with Silent Hills being cancelled, refuse to do anything with their popular IPs (Castlevania, Metal Gear, Silent Hill) and seem to happy becoming a hack company that builds gambling machines and superfluous mobile games. What a mess. The fans suffer.
If they aren’t gonna use their IPs then at least lease the rights to other developers who actually give a ***** about their customers.
I would literally kill for another good Silent Hill or Castlevania. I’m happy for MSG to be shelved tbh its never gonna recover without Kojima.
Also: I missed out on PT by a week - I’m still kicking myself.
@Menchi which is a good reason to buy them another way. Scrubbing Kojima from all the games is pathetic and infantile.
There is a MGS collection on PS3.
@oldschool1987 exactly. Might not be important to some but many of us who are huge horror fans are still bitter about missing out on PT. There are so few genuinely frightening games and I love the feeling of being scared in a controlled environment
@GamingFan4Lyf
You're more then welcome mate, enjoy!!
@Arnna "The fans suffer"
Talk about first world problems.
@naruball seriously? We are all talking about video games here last time I checked. Nice straw-man argument.
Konami’s conduct has absolutely meant that the fans of their IPs suffer. I’m not talking about real life suffering, which is blatantly obvious because I’m talking about a video game.
We are all privileged. Your snarky comment achieves nothing and adds nothing to the conversation. Congrats.
@HotGoomba new from Konami: F.T.O.W.C.H.B - has a snappy ring to it don’t you reckon?
Since Konami lost the source code for Silent Hill 2 and 3 we are stuck with the originals which are on an obsolete console, or buy the remasters which were based on unfinished code and are full of bugs. A really ***** situation.
