Do you remember those glory days mid-way through the PlayStation 3’s lifecycle where its PlayStation Store was part of the operating system itself? Many people look back on that period fondly, because accessing the storefront was lightning fast. Sony looks poised to return to those days, as the PS Store on the PlayStation 5 is part of the console, and not a separate app.
Sony confirmed the tidbit during its presentation on the user interface today: “This is PS Store for PS5,” introduced the PlayStation Blog’s Sid Shuman. “It’s completely integrated into the system – it’s not a standalone app anymore. Browsing for new games to play will be easier thanks to the speed of the PS5 and a more personalised store experience.”

This may be one of the biggest things for me personally. Accessing and using the store on the PS4 is an abysmal experience right now, this seems like it will be a very welcome change.
@redd214 This coupled with WIFI 6 will make the experience of browsing and buying off the store so much better.
I’m hoping that PS NOW is the same as well then this UI update is perfect for me
Really like how the dashboard looks. Kinda gives me Netflix vibes with how the games are laid out. Isn't Series X kinda doing a similar thing by having a shop portal instead of a standalone MS Store app? I'd love to see this become a more common fixture in the future since right now interfaces like the PS Store on PS4 and the eShop on Switch are abysmal to navigate.
@TheIdleCritic For sure! Im 90+% digital now so I spend a good amount of time in there, mostly on the web version as of late however. The Wifi 6 addition is something I'm going to have to look into more in depth. Our internet is fine as is but always willing to upgrade if possible!
probably just means it'll slow down when the store gets bloated with shovelware
@redd214 I'm still part of the old guard. I always buy physical when I can, but when there are sales on the PS store there are sometimes very good deals! Having a stable (faster in this case) wifi connection on the console is such a relief, even if you have good internet. I have good internet with BT, but my MacBook drops out a lot. Which is not the internet, just the notoriously finicky apple radio. So anything to improve reliability is welcome!
😕- Besides the PS3 didn't the PS4 have it integrated into the OS BEFORE(A Long Time Ago) then Later they went and turned it into a standalone App on PS4 or am I tripp'n out?
Because I remember it being on the OS's menu bar, and then after a System update it being removed from the menu bar over to the App bar.
Translation: we're all gonna spend more money and have bigger backlogs. Oh well
it looks cluttered because they're trying to show a bunch of features at once. Features which you can probably turn off when not in use.
@deathaxe I used to be with plusnet and experienced the exact same, and not 35-40 either as it's just my wife and I. Since switching back to BT I still experience it on my Mac but nothing else.
EDIT: Wait... that would mean it was plusnet lol...
No, it's the Mac. It's always been like that. I split my time between the UK, Japan, and Australia and wherever I am it's always the same.
I hope it's faster as well, with game icon in the store that don't need too much data to load, psn store on ps4 pro is a little slow.
Thank god. It's so slow and laggy on Ps4. On Ps3 it's even worse, crashed my system multiple times, just trying to open the store.
I don't have a problem with the way it works currently. The search system itself has problems when it gives completely irrelevant results, even when you type the whole title in. Other than that, it works just fine for me.
@deathaxe upgrade to Virgin 350mb and you'll get around 40mb a second maybe even nearer 50mb.
They could have shown the damn thing working lol
I’m being sarcastic but it’s nice for Sony to finally add my favourite feature from the Xbox 360.
I still have my PS3 set up. To go to the store, I click on the icon, it (slowly) loads the store. If I click back from the store, a black screen appears with dialogue asking if I want to exit the store. Am I missing something here? I recall there being an option to turn off certain content on the XMB, does that display store content on the front end?
@Jayofmaya
I agree, also have no issue with current system on PS4, clicking on an icon to go to the store works absolutely fine.
