Sony is failing to spoon-feed the media with meaningful PlayStation 5 information to write about, and so the press is beginning to lose its collective mind. The latest flight of fancy: a mysterious bolt spotted atop the next-gen console’s monolithic form, located between the outer-white panels and glossy black sandwich filler. Just what does that nut do?!
There are all kinds of theories flying around: it’s used to access a compartment allowing you to install a compatible SSD hard drive; it detaches the exterior panels so that you can customise them to your taste; it opens up a portal to a different dimension. Okay, so we’re just joking about the latter, but we wouldn’t rule anything out in 2020 anymore.
It’s going to be a long month and a bit, innit?

PS5 has failed no-nut-november before it even started.
Shameful.
it is going to drive everyone nuts
Talk about a slow day.
Read the headline as mysterious butt...
I'd say it's probably the get access to the SSD expansion slot OR it's only present in the demo machines to prevent the rabid media peeps tearing the machine open to get to the juicy guts!
It’s probably holding the whole thing together and if you take it out, the whole console collapses into an expensive pile of trash.
The internet is being so silly again with its crazy antics.
I suspect the flood gates of information will be opening up soon.
It looks like it can be pressed so I think it detaches the exterior panels for adding the ssd or maybe for easy dust cleaning.
Kind of a random spot to have a metallic nut.
It's from the Ratchet & Clank gameplay demo.
@Grindagger It's Sony, everyday is a slow day.
Actually, it's not slow. Slow would imply there's some kind of movement at all.
@GADG3Tx87 is No-Nut-November a thing?
@nathanSF
I've heard myths and whispers of such a thing on social media. I usually fail it on... November 1st. 😂
@GADG3Tx87 Hi there friend. That was absolutely briliant.
Well played 👍
Going for not-nut-november and don´t-nut-december.
Gotta stay strong.
Cheers, saty safe and have a good one
Quite clearly it's a restraining bolt to keep PS-5 from wandering away from the moisture farm.
@GADG3Tx87 probably been a no-nut few months for some people 😆😅

Bolt reveal....
Hype!
And yeah, people are really losing their minds about the lack of significant PS5 information, aren´t they? Internet in their finnest everyone 😜
Cheers, stay safe out there and happy gaming to us all
@RaZieLDaNtE
Ah, hello there friend!
Yeah I thought it was a bit corny even as I wrote it but I couldn't resist. 😂
I wonder if by association that anyone who buys the console at launch also technically fails no-nut-november?
On a more serious note I do wonder what it's for. Maybe the hope that the 'faceplates' are swappable may not be true if there is a bolt holding it down.
It's for extra stability.
It's the spiritual successor of the mysterious Vita port.
If you undo the bolt, Jim Ryan's hologram projects from the PS5 & punches you in the face.
@GADG3Tx87 "I wonder if by association that anyone who buys the console at launch also technically fails no-nut-november?"
Well, there goes my record then 😁
Isn´t the bolt just there for stability functions? you know, just like those phenomenal PS4 stability updates 😜
Cheers
This is literally the first time I've heard about this screw.
@mikeym Haha yes, Sony is about to release new physical updates this generation, for extra improved stability of the system :'D
@citchmook you should talk to the internet. Apparently he/she/it is discussing it.
@God_of_Nowt Sounds more like an Xbox thing with Larry Hryb as the main protagonist hah
5G antenna to spread the coronavirus to grant us herd mentality.
Looks like the top of a spark plug to me...
Someone stole the schematics from some foolish console manufacturer and found a weakness just like the Death Star. You knock this nut out and bickety-bam, the whole console comes crashing down.
@GADG3Tx87 You made a stranger on internet laugh. Respect+
When you open the bolt you get transferred to game you are playing...just like Jumanji
That stops Mark Cerny's 'secret sauce' from leaking out.
That's where the air compressor plugs in to keep it cool
All will be revealed with the Ben heck tear down!
I'm really hating Sony's silent strategy. It is quite arrogant and pointless.
@Oscarjpc Very pointless and is only irritating fans more and more
@GADG3Tx87 Im ashamed I found this so funny.
It's anti theft thingy majiggy is my guess.
They ones they use in store with a metal wire attached.
Infact that sounds too sensible, it's probably a self destruct button.
Maybe it's a plug for the radiator cooling ... Maybe PS5 has an AIO water cooling system.
Thought by now you wold have updated us on exactly where on the console this is.
Is it on both or just one?
Disc manual eject screw?
@GADG3Tx87 Gives best comment award
Could be to change the side plates for customisation?
PS fan sites reporting on other ps fan sites reporting on a picture of a bolt on an electronic device. We've crossed a new boundary. This is nuts.
And bolts.
Banjo Kazooie 3 confirmed?
The SSD is actually faster than the speed of light, allowing it to open a portal to an alternate dimension. The bolt is simply there to hold together the PS5 whilst it uses the powers of the gods.
@nessisonett So it turns it into an Xbox?
I jest, of course! I don't mean to ruffle any feathers.
It is obviously used to void the warranty of curious gamers.
Is this from the top ?? I still can't get a grasp on the actual position of this "thing" from this photo only. If it is from the top, I still think it's a radiator plug for an AIO water cooler.
Sometimes i feel like a nut, sometimes i don't.
PS5 has a nut, XBOX don't.
Wall mount.
Has anyone said wall mount?
It connects to the...MATRIX:D
That's where you put the blinker fluid.
