Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a key game in Sony's PlayStation 5 launch lineup, but it's also due for release on PS4. The LittleBigPlanet spin-off doubles down on being a tight-knit 3D platformer, and it supports up to four players in local or online co-op. It all sounds pretty good to us, and what little we've seen has been very promising. But what if your pals are getting a PS5 at launch, and you're left with the PS4 version? Will you all still be able to play together?
The answer, thankfully, is a firm "Yes". Speaking with Game Informer as part of a preview on the game, Sumo Digital's Ned Waterhouse confirmed that you'll be able to enjoy co-op between the PS5 and PS4 editions of the game. "We support PS4/PS5 crossplay, so if your friends aren’t upgrading you can still play together," Waterhouse plainly says.
If you're worried about the state of the PS4 version, he says the team is "proud" of what it's achieved on both iterations. "I don’t think players are going to be disappointed if they buy the PS4 version," Waterhouse assures, while also pointing out that the PS5 version of course takes advantage of all the new bells and whistles.
So, there you have it: crossplay between PS5 and PS4 means you can enjoy Sackboy: A Big Adventure with your friends regardless of platform. Are you excited for this one? Are you getting the game on PS5 or PS4? Play nice together in the comments section below.

Not the best in terms of console uptake, but makes complete sense from a game sales perspective I guess.
@God_of_Nowt
Do your mean one on each console? But then you’ll need to buy 2 copies of the game right? Why not just play coop on the one console?
@thefourfoldroot if you activate one as your main console you only need one copy.
@God_of_Nowt
I thought you’d have to put the disc in for access on either console. Or, if digital, the upgrade would be that (an upgrade of the game, not free ps5 version snd you keep the PS4 version too). True about the Primary truck though - presuming it’s not changed on ps5, the new terms and conditions showed it might change. Very happy to be wrong though as I’ll be keeping my PS4 (though fir this game I’d rather be on the same screen rather than relying on our internet connection on separate screens, will be great for games with split screen modes like Borderlands 3 if you are right though).
@God_of_Nowt yeah me and my friends do this with games like fifa, works like a charm
@God_of_Nowt
Oh right, thanks for clarifying. I thought the games were considered two completely different SKUs, but this sounds much more user friendly.
Wonder if the game is Pro enhanced and if so, what are the differences between 4K Pro and 4K PS5?
@God_of_Nowt quick question wouldn't you need to be signed into your account on both playstations in order to play the one copy you own at the same time? If so it will log you out if one console if one is already logged in, coz you need your log in to play with another console. Correct me if im wrong, I may be wrong.
I liked this series back in the PS3 days but totally skipped LBP 3 on PS4. I might try to get back in it, this game looks pretty fun.
@God_of_Nowt makes sense. Thankyou for clearing that up. Not long to go now 😄
