Losing in a game is bad enough, but it's even worse when you know that you've got to sit and look at a loading screen for the next 30 seconds. Fortunately, as we all know, the PS5 is looking to eliminate long load times with its super fast custom SSD — and launch title Godfall is taking full advantage.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Dick Heyne — technical producer at developer Counterplay Games — confirms that dying in Godfall results in a near instant restart. All you have to do is hit the button prompt that shows up on-screen, and you're straight back into the action. Glorious.
Here's a demonstration:
"We built Godfall to challenge players, and you likely won’t conquer every encounter on your first attempt. We want to ensure that death never feels like a punishment to players but instead becomes an opportunity to learn and grow as a Valorian Knight," Heyne explains.
Will you be grabbing Godfall at launch? Post your thoughts as quickly as possible in the comments section below.

The game looks more and more stunning every time you see it! But it’s not so much how quick you can restart, it’s how tough will it be to make you die? Will you be seeing these fast restarts consistently?
I'd hit that day 1 if I had something to play it on
this is the first game I will play on PS5 gets better the more I see & hear.
Hearing that there are instant restarts whenever you die just gets me more excited for Demon's Souls than Godfall lmao
Hi there fellow gamers. Man, that is FAST loading. I do hope the devs at Counterplay Games can remove the always online thing so I can get the game as soon as possible.
It is right up my alley, has stunning visuals, love the Valorplates(I think that´s the name for the armour) and the more I see, the more I like the gameplay.
I´ll get it for sure, just not at launch probably.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
This is great for games generally. Not interested in Godfall, but I’m already regretting the decades of intolerable loading times that ate into my game playing.
I wonder if the years between carts and SSDs will be seen as an anomaly, or if we’ll get back to the wait at some point.
At this rate, death animations will disguise the tiny amount of loading necessary.
I'm getting more and more tempted to PO this.
My game share buddy preordered this. Now I preorder Demon’s souls and it’s a solid win/win!
I’m more interested in the game after seeing japanese youtubers play it, the world and story looks interesting, the graphics looks good, and the gameplay looks like a mix of souls games and ps4 god of war 😃
If it wasn’t for the online requirement I’d had this pre ordered by now
That's great but that's Naughty Dog since forever. I remember restarting the checkpoint at that ships'graveyard a gazillion times in Uncharted 4 crushing difficulty, thanks to instant loading. "Gotta find a way to the beach."
..it's one to watch, I'm just worried about longevity... the amount of moves seems pretty limited from the videos I've seen... one to wait for reviews of... and if it is online only, definitely wait for server issues / bugs to be ironed out first...
@David187 same here. I pre-ordered it and can’t wait to play it. With Sackboy being a close second.
Graphics are over saturated, gameplay looks like dumbed down version God of War 2018, story is non-existent? Can’t for the life of me fathom a PlayStation fan being excited for this game
