Watch Dogs Legion will launch first on the PlayStation 4 later this month, and then it’ll be available as a free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade on Sony’s next-gen console a little later in the year. But the Ubisoft open world’s roadmap doesn’t end there, as the French firm has pulled back the curtain on its enormous post-release plans.
First and foremost, from 3rd December, the game will get a gigantic online update for free. This will allow you to enjoy the entire sandbox in four-player co-op, where you’ll be able to take on new missions and participate in fresh dynamic events. Fan-favourites like Invasion will also return, allowing you to hack into other players’ games – and there’ll even be deathmatch Spider-Bot Arena battles.
Then, as previously announced, Season Pass owners will unlock an entirely new storyline named Watch Dogs: Bloodline. This will feature Aiden Pearce from the original Watch Dogs, as well as Wrench from Watch Dogs 2. There’ll also be two new characters, including an Assassin’s Creed crossover, which effectively ties the two franchises together.
The publisher won’t be stopping there, however. It’ll be adding new playable character-types, missions, and features to the title at a later date – including New Game Plus. To be fair, Ubisoft’s post-release support is always spectacular, but it’s good to know that it’s committed to expanding on its futuristic interpretation of London way beyond launch.

That Assassin's Creed crossover is wild. 🤯
I always did think Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed would work well in the same universe. Abstergo are the big daddies of evil tech companies. This sounds good though, I had so much fun with the random multiplayer events in Watch Dogs 2, especially the hacking invasion one where you had to pretend to be a civilian without them catching you.
Invasion is back! Keep your cool and don't dress like a plumber from a porno.
@ApostateMage They were honestly so fun. My favourite tactic was to walk into a group of people and go into the menu, which makes your character check his phone. Barely got caught!
Yeah, I enjoy the Invasion mode, too. I also used to love the old Assassin's Creed multiplayer modes!
Nowadays any single player game promotion...
We have incredible fuking plans for MTXs
Greedy companies.....
And take the example of free multiplayer GOT legends
It's like they're asking people to not buy at launch. Why pay $60+ on day one when you can wait, get it cheaper, and get way more gameplay the moment you boot up?
@nessisonett Aye. I once caught someone trying an invasion, they legged it, jacked a car and tried speeding off before I put a full clip into his back windshield and noggin. It was like a sequence from a Bond film. Great stuff.
I'm really excited for this, and I'm looking forward to playing it day one. The free upgrade is a nice touch, and I love supporting new and innovative ideas and tech. The AI voice tech, while rudimentary in this game, can be a game changer for future open world games.
I am really in love with the concept of this one.
@nessisonett I preferred invasion in the first one but it was a lot of fun. Sometimes when I knew I wasn't getting caught I would walk out in front of them with a second to go. I felt so evil lol
@nessisonett I agree, and I think they are linked, but it's also debatable.
In a mission in the first Watch Dogs you kill a member of Abstergo (a character from AC: Black Flag), and the timeline of his disappearance from Black Flag coincides with his death in Watch Dogs.
They might have had plans, because Ubisoft has never capitalized on that narrative link again, or it might have been a cool easter egg. Again, I think it's linked it's just a tenuous link.
Watch Dogs remains one of the most underrated game series around.
1 was solid, 2 was great and Legion is looking to be one of the best games this year, so happy to see the support for the player base with all the great content updates coming too.
It was only a matter of time before they crossed over.
That actually looks really cool. I was tempted by the game already - mostly as a "new launch title for XSeX" to compliment the hardware as Sackboy will for PS5....debating between this, Yakuza, and AC:Vikings. But this sounds really cool and if the whole sandbox - with missions - is coop like Farcry....that's a whole other level of awesome and a guaranteed purchase. I liked the first game even though Chicago is boring as a landscape and Aiden is so wooden he makes Chicago seem exciting. If he were any more gravelly he'd be a Denton.
Edit: Ahh, it sounds like it's not the full set of missions like Farcry, but is just dedicated missions for coop. That's a bit of a downer.
@nessisonett I think they've always said that AC and WD share the same universe. I believe the first game had some references to Abstergo when you hacked into Blume systems - the two are rival competitors. Thus just brings it front and center.
For some reason, my level of care for this game is bottom of the barrel... Too many games coming out during the Fall Season that I would rather play than this... I might check it once it goes into sale next year.
@get2sammyb
Please let this be real! I could see Ubisoft using this Assassin character as a joke and that the DLC protagonist is nothing more than a cosplayer who is a fan of the Assassin's Creed games instead of a true bloodline follower of Altaïr.
Fingers crossed for the latter!
I'm excited for this game. Watch Dogs 2 was one of my favourite games of the generation. It was pure open world fun.
Ok...I'm buying this day one it seems and play the upgraded ps5 versin on the 19th
Oh for crying out loud, how much time do they think we have?
GTA5, Ghost of Tsushima, Destiny 2, Marvel's Avengers, RDR2, Gimme a break!
@nathanSF several of those came out years ago. Have you been in prison or something?
@Starkei: I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for satire I can tell you I don't have a sense of humour, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let off with your comments now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.
I'm definitely looking forward to the Season Pass..in 2-3 years when the Gold Edition is going for $20-$30.
