We'll update this article once the patch is available to download, but until then, let us know if you're still exploring medieval England in the comments section below.

So basically they released the game before it was fully ready to meet the launch line up. Ubisoft for you.
Was about to start the game when this popped up on ResetEra.
I'll go back to playing Borderlands 3 on the PS5 with that 4K 60fps goodness and get into this tomorrow after work!
Oh wow, a lot of big updates there, including graphics/performance modes. Testing games must have been a nightmare with Covid though.
No alternate control scheme? I’m well aware that you can remap the buttons, but this ends up creating conflicts due to them making the crouch action the same as climb down/dive & some actions being triggered by a tap or hold etc.
Would like to just have one streamlined alternate option similar to older AC games where the face buttons can be used for combat and not have to search through reddit to see what others did.
silly question but what is the performance currently? I have no issues with the fps so am I playing it with quality mode at the moment and this update will keep the fps but up the resolution? Or am I currently playing in 30fps and this will give me a 60fps option?
I don’t read anything about the screen tearing issue. Let’s see if they just didn’t mention it.
It can sometimes be a bit jarring.
I still have a lot left to do in the game and will see if the quality mode is a jump big enough to justify not playing smooth 60fps on a 4K screen.
Well thats pretty significant, I wonder what these extra VFX are. I don't see myself playing at 30fps but I'll have a look out of curiosity and on my experience the 60fps was pretty solid, so if they have refined that and eliminated the tearing (particularly in cutscenes) then I'll be happy
Given how buggy Valhalla was at launch (especially on PS4) I think it's fair to assume that a lot of the stuff in this update was meant to ship with the game. But covid and other potential factors likely delayed the whole process.
Background image on the title screen?
YES! Things are coming up Millhouse.
Cheer's ShogunRok I have still yet to set sail having so much fun in the snow....this update seems to of ironed out the issues next stop Medieval England.
@StonyKL The game currently uses dynamic resolution and sticks to 60fps. So with this patch they’re adding the ability to stick to a better resolution but go down to 30fps.
I think it's hilious that the game has stealing mechanics now, but murder is off limits for a brutal viking still. Come Ubi, let me murder people in raids. Heck, make it seem natural with the raid.
Did I miss the bit where they've fixed it so PS4 disk version owners can actually get the free PS5 upgrade?
@StonyKL I was wondering what mode is standard pre-patch, too!
The performance mode with its 60fps is my go to mode. The fluid gameplay @60 with dynamic 4K is more favourable over the 30fps native(?) 4K resolution.
@smbeats
Stupid comment to be honest..like pretty much every single company now launches with games full of bugs, its normal practice now.."ah its fine day one patch or 1 or 2 weeks later"
Well I’m glad I haven’t started this yet. I really want to get started, but hearing some of the bugs others have had has made me hesitant. Hopefully it will be a smoother experience after this.
@Uromastryx what's stupid is your response. You are correct that patches do come out after a games initial release but look at the scale and size of this update and all the issues it fixed. Tell me why Ubisoft did not just be patient for 1 week or 2 to get it right the first time. The reviews would have been better the first time around. I'm all for these updates but I'm speaking realistically here as a consumer.
I'm genuinely delighted about them fixing the Norway fish spawns 😆
@smbeats
My comment wasn't argumentative just how gaming is these days ripping one company seems pointless, id have wrote the same even if it was EA. Anyway
Well thats the other problem is companies such as ubi are greedy but im guessing its also the suits telling them to hurry, a victim of success ? I dont know but I agree why not just wait for 2 weeks etc, but im guessing they wanted it as a ps5 launch(ish) window...and well look how that turned out
Which in turn makes me worry for cyberpunk I don't belive its ready😕
Thank god,hopefully the poor main character textures will be replaced with the inventory one in 4k 30fps, l,which is of much higher quality
@Uromastryx I’m not trying to be either and that is the exact point I was trying to make. Cyberpunk looks insane and I’m sure they’re working around the clock on that one. Let’s hope! Cheers mate!
@smbeats either people bitch about bugs or bitch about waiting for a game to come out. im fine with bugs UNLESS they are something that completey ruins the game. i myself have seen hardly any bugs except for lighting and some tearing here and there (im on ps5).
@Papasears you’re right there are complaints on all ends but I wasn’t complaining I was giving my take on it. Just like you did. No one has to agree with me nor did I say I was right or wrong however there are game companies out there not saying any names that delay their games based on these reasons and when we wait it’s so worth it and the final product is great. I rather wait any day than have a buggy game. And this is something that has been happening way to often this past generation and it seems like it’s something we have to accept as the new normal now. Only reason I made the comment was the sheer size of the update and fixes.
I really hope Ubi adds better DualSense support in the future. There are so many things they could improve - why are they not using the resistive triggers for the bow?!
I hope they gonna fix last quest bug on ps4 it kinda piss me off i unable to finish the game.
I think the only major thing left out of the update is better communication between players and Ubisoft support for if there are any more bugs that need sorting. You should check out their Twitter account. A lot of players, myself included are going for over a week, if not two before anyone gets back to you.
That's a quite meaty update 😃
@wiiware
Yeah, would be surprised if its in the region of about 10 to 15gbs in size but its definitely needed,
@Uromastryx I really hope ubisoft give ac odyssey 60 fps update too since I want to play it smoothly on ps5. I have the pc version but the game isn’t optimized for pc.
This is ridiculous. What will the future be... Assassins Creed PS4 review, Assassins Creed PS5 review, Assassins Creed patch 5 review? Totally unacceptable. Personally I don’t care as I’ll buy it when it’s practically all done and patched up like I did with Drive Club but I feel sorry for kids or indeed anyone else who were dying to buy this as soon as it came out and it’s just a bit of a broken mess. That’s really not “AAA” at all is it?
@Alpine021 it's clearly not a broken mess which is why it's getting such good reviews. Alot of these bugs it's fixing are quality of life bugs.
I'm having great fun with it so far and only just about to embark to England later this evening.
Had my first bug last night where my mates wouldn't help me open a door in a raid. Made me look a right looser - "Guys I need help with the door.....er guys?".
Also had another thing happen and not sure if its a bug or part of the game, but had things like trees glitching into weird coloured images, like the way the characters glitch in Spiderman into the spiderverse. Not sure if thats supposed to happen now and again to remind the player they are in the animus and its part of the story or if its just a bug?
Edit: Also remembered another bug I'm getting where it says I've only played 2 hours yet I've played much more than that?
I had my only bug so far where I was stuck in a permanent sliding mode in between 2 pieces of terrain. Nothing I tried would work to get me unstuck until I took out the torch.
Actually I've also had the glitching bug where your sight can glitch through the object you're moving when trying to get to wealth POIs.
@KPraj I know and I did say a ‘bit’ of a broken mess. Also Push Squares review of it on the PS4 said they couldn’t go 5 minutes with a bug. That’s bad. How did that get past testing and someone said “yes that’s good to go!”. Anyway have fun with it. Hopefully this patch fixes most of the issues
It's actually been pretty good for me so far. I've started sliding infinitely in place and had to do a special move to leap out of that state, like someone mentioned above. I've had what might be a memory leak where the longer I played, the laggier the game would be when moving between menus or loading things until eventually it froze.
The one that's probably most annoyed me even though it isn't that critical is if you start a relationship with someone, you have the option to do different contests with them. When you choose any of these, the camera detaches from Eivor and now all you can see is a close-up of the ground or wall. After 10 seconds, if you're doing a drinking contest, the drinking UI appears but button presses don't do anything. Your partner can drink but you can't. Then after another 7+ seconds you eventually get the ability to take part in the contest but pretty much can't win due to their head start. Though it's fine with the dice game since it's turn-based.
Hopefully in a future patch they add that tourism mode that Origins and Odyssey had.
The game is alot better on ps5 than ps4 I encountered numerous visual bugs, bad pop in tearing, stuttering. But all passed, I have restarted on the ps5 now, and I've encountered none of this, only bug on ps5 is fish despawning as I load in. But looks like there fixing that.
Valhalla will be one of the best after its patched, thats not to say it should have released in its current state
Do they have like 1 or 2 testers. How this got past that stage is crazy
Kinda liked my character flying in the sky and then dying after trying to walk downstairs after getting off the horse 😂😂, apart from that and the hassle of keeping the game installed on the ps5 due to installing and updating the last patch at the same time (which was a simple fix by installing offline then updating later), I like it and can't wait to check out the update
@ILikeStake
Because, unfortunately, Sony didn’t stipulate that dualsense features have to be implementer in games. Likely because they didn’t want to risk the games being delayed only on their system. Stupid, as they have the capability to send teams round to help with the coding, like MS did when the Xbone X released, but choose not to.
Does the "quality mode" improvement go beyond the resolution boost? Improved shadows, ambient occlusion, draw distance or any other little details? Haven't bought the game yet, looking forward to getting it as soon as it's stable enough!
Just tried the update and it defaults to quality mode for me. Just warning that you guys should check the settings if you want to go back to 60fps mode
Not able to download the update on my PS5. Just get the error CE-107938-8. Shouldn't be an issue since I installed the game via disc. Now I guess I have to delete it and re-install it just to get the update? This will only be roughly the 6th time I've had to install the game because of the glitch that is now fixed on the PS5 where it disappeared after installed if you hit Copy and didn't let the disc install itself.
@Papasears @Uromastryx @smbeats This is one case where Jim Sterling is right. You have to remember that you aren’t the customer, you are the product. The Shareholders are the customers, and releasing the game on time pleases the costomers - shareholders.... and the bugs don’t affect sales or recurrent user spending enough to impact the financials.
@JapaneseSonic
Did they pop when you started the game ?
@ShogunRok any chance you could ask why they have not fixed the PS4 to PS5 upgrade? been over a week now they just ignore everyone on Twitter would be greatly appreciated if possible.
@JapaneseSonic
Sweet I hope its same for me when I log in 🙏
@David187 I believe we reached out to Ubisoft about it but didn't get a reply. We can try chasing it again, but hopefully it's just being fixed behind the scenes. A week of this is already far too long, though.
@helbertpina I've hardly noticed any difference between the two modes excepts for 60fps,I suppose the quality mode is slighter cleaner but only if you look closely,I was expecting more to be honest and the npcs are still the dumbest I've ever encountered in a game for a while.
@ShogunRok thanks 👍
@StonyKL the glitching trees might be a type of world event, where you the simulation breaks and you collect files as present day character. There are a few of these I've found so far.
60fps for me, tried quality mode but 30fps is rather jarring and off putting
@Lucid_dream_14
Yeah I did the same tried quality mode looked a bit cleaner but at 30 fps after spending a week with 60 its almost like your lagging bit smushy on the eyes
Diligent little ***** that I am, I already fully upgraded my quiver and food pouch to max and looted all chests in the game. I'm OCD like that. So, yeah, I had the lack of fabric for that final offering at the altar.
But now this patch/update doesn't help me either since it says that fabric will become available at traders if my settlement is level 6. Again, I did the upgrades and took care of my settlement as I played. I was not aware that we had to do two upgrades to the cattle, fowl and grain buildings so I spent those resources on making homes for those other folks.
Imagine my surprise when I learned there were no more abbeys that could be raided so... I won't be able to get my settlement to level 6 nor will I be able to buy those 5 fabrics from a trader. Thanks for that.
@BradT
Finished all areas/completed the story?
You sure you're not missing some supplies?
I have my settlement to level 6 and all buildings fully upgraded and I have exactly 0 raw materials left.
I started the game yesterday after the patch. During my first "encounter", I hit a guy in the head with an arrow and two trophies popped that, after doing some digging, are ENTIRELY unrelated to what I did and should pop very late game . Still not sure if I should be annoyed or just delighted 😅😅
I 've been playing this for a week now, and apart from the sound bug during dialogues and some light flickering in some areas, not many were found.
I had a big one after redeeming the bonus quest from pre-order, and I was lucky to have a save old enough so I had to repeat a quest. But after that no big problems.
But like @KPraj :
after the update yesterday, for the first time, i actually found 3 bugs, with enemies going into walls, not being able to attack them because they were 30cm higher than me and a third one with Eivor's cloak just going through some equipment even more visible now.
Also, maybe it's just me but combat seemed a bit different in terms of trying to hit without locking the target.
And there's something that really annoys me: I don't know how it is in other difficulties, but in hard, it's just almost impossible to get the cloak on and go slowly in a village without being noticed. so it's a stupid feature when in theory you can go in incognito, but you can't even pass the 2 guards at the main entrance because you have to pass by them less then 3 meters and they spot you right away.
Still, loving the game and the small details I find here and there.
@LowTech
I'm playing in hard too and in the first mission where he teaches you about using the cloak I instantly alerted them as soon as I got close to their circle.
I thought I did something stupid... Glad it's not me and just a useless feature in hard mode. Shouldn't it be more useful in hard mode because the enemies are actually harder. 🙄
Proving once again that buying on launch gives you the worst experience at the highest price. I'll play this in due course. No rush
@themightyant I think the same, but I live in France atm, and here something really strange happens: games are cheaper for the first weak or so;
So I pre-ordered the game and actually payed less. (I did the same with rdr2)
So I do this but I usually I wait at least a week or 2 to start playing it
@Uromastryx I upgraded everything. I see no more of those upgrade signs on any of the buildings. And I'm still shy of level 6. I have 0 Raw Materials left and I even just built that house for Humwald. I'm thinking my game is glitched somehow.
I have not finished the entire game yet. On the last legs though.
@LowTech Game still doesn't have the Swordfish added to it. Still doesn't have any PC achievements. Still doesn't have multiplayer — not that I give a damn about that but apparently you cannot "avenge" any players' deaths until that is implemented.
The whole fabric thing is just ridiculous at this point. You can be literally swimming in Iron Ore and Leather but there has to be a cap on how many Fabrics are in the game?? WHY???
At this point, I just want to be done with the damn thing.
@BradT
I think...I think when you finish the story your settlement will go up to level 6, I cant be 100% sure but I might have read that getting to level 6 requires finishing the main story
So when you get through maybe you'll be lucky and not glitched or bugged
@Uromastryx Fingers (and toes) crossed, friend. I sure hope so. Getting there, last few quests now.
@LowTech That's really interesting. I didn't know that (despite having a French aunt and cousin).
How much cheaper are games at launch?
Do you get large discounts after a few months for many games? E.g. Here in the UK Watch Dogs legion is now £29.99 (it launched less than a month ago for around £51.99) this is quicker than most but not unheard of.
We occasionally see a 10% discount for pre-ordering some indies on PS+ but that's about it here
@BradT Swordfish is there, but yes, apparently the way to get there is a bit broken. Maybe this update changes things, since it does something to the fish spawning,
PC achivements I don't know, since I am playing it on a playstation (like almost everyone in here)
multiplayer ? now that's something new for me. I don't think that multiplayer is planned. There are some talks about co-op but if it comes out, I would be surprised. Still, as far as i know multiplayer was never announced.
Yes, fabrics are bugged. But apparently with the patch is half solved, kinda.
Nowdays games come out very bugged. But this one, since i did not installed it right away and i am taking my time, is not that bad. Maybe I am lucky.
@themightyant So here in France, usually games come out between 40 and 50 or 55 euros (there are exceptions). After a week or 2, they go up to a price between 60 and 70. So, it's not a huge difference, but still it's not bad at all. The game is now at 69.99€. I am from Portugal and they come out at 60 or 70 right away. Never cheaper.
Promotions or large discounts depends more on the time of the year than anything else. Christmas and sales are really good sometimes in terms of games. And there's a huge second hand market here.
I pre-ordered RDR2 for 42€. And Assassins Valhalla for 51,50€.
And also Cyberpunk at 52,80€
Update to all: Yes, Settlement level 6 upon completing all of the pledged territories.
@LowTech Thanks for the enlightening information.
It's really interesting how different territories handle it.
I appreciate that there is a price incentive to be a fan and buy at launch in France. That's nice.
In the UK you can occasionally see retail companies fighting for good deals around launch but this happens less now than it used to. Prices almost never go up only down.
Here, for me at least, these is little incentive to buy at launch for most games. As I said worst version for highest cost. Too many buggy games released. I only bought maybe 5-6 games at launch the entire PS4/XBO generation because of this... yet I own hundreds of PS4/XBO games.
@themightyant Yes, I was surprised in a good way when I got here. But not all stores do this. Some sell them at the "normal" price. So this is a policy from some stores where they lose in the profit margin, but gain in volume. But I totally agree with you. I would never pre-order a game if it wasn't cheaper and I really wanted to play it as it comes out. Still, as I said before, I allways wait a few weeks to start playing them.
I'll only start playing cyberpunk after I platinum Valhalla, so that should take until christmas at least.
Same with me in terms of buying games as they come out until now (apart from GrandTurismo). Still there's a downside: the games come with the box in french. =D but hey, I take what I can get.
I am curious to see if this price policy will continue with the ps5 games.
@smbeats true, but look at what happened with Cyberpunk being pushed back, consumers sent death threats to the devs? like really cmon. This is what I meant when I stated about people bitching about whatever they can. Not directed at you just a general comment for everyone
@Mega-Gazz correct, and it keeps you from getting death threats, people are insane nowadays
So my husband is playing right now and enemies aren't engaging him. He can walk right up and kill them. Zealots leave their swords on their shoulder the whole time while getting anilhilated.
He is in Wessex doing the "Arrive Unexpected" quest. I thought that maybe because he was in the middle of the quest and had to travel to get to his next destination may have played a part in it? Idk...
He is finishing the quest now so I guess we shall see.
