Borderlands 3 runs at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the PlayStation 5 if you enable the looter-shooter’s Resolution mode, but you can also eke 120 frames-per-second out of the game if you run it in Performance mode. Obviously this lowers the resolution considerably, but for those with a compatible television (See Also: The Best 4K TVs for PS5), the option is there.
There are a surprising number of next-gen titles running at 120 frames-per-second already, and you can find a full list through the following link: All PS5 Games Running at 120 Frames-Per-Second. How will you be playing Borderlands 3 on your next-gen console? Gun down in the comments section below.

I'll give this another go now, I played it on PS4 Pro and it was just a mess with either a 30fps mode that wasn't anywhere near it or a 60fps mode which wasn't much better
I will do the season pass dlc and new dlc on the ps5 I think. I did most of the single player with a friend, on and off and I experienced no lags or bugs on my playthrough. And this was on a pro as well. But I did have this playing on two separate pro's and game preformed fine for me.
Don’t have a 120hz TV and don’t plan to get one any time soon, but good to know the overhead is there so that they can dial back and hit 60fps easily. Even if they have dynamic res the upscale tech will make it unnoticeable.
My PS5 has kindly pointed out that I have already played ~547 hours of this game, and I haven’t even finished all the DLC (I stopped halfway through the 3rd one). I can’t believe I’m thinking about playing more
It's cool that it runs 120fps in 1080p on my PS5. My Sony 4K TV only has a 2.0b HDMI, but it's native screen is 120Htz and it has 1080p at 120fps compatibility all other resolutions including 4K run at 60fps because of the limitation of having an HDMI 2.0b connection.
@RicksReflection same dude. It's a Sony 4k top tier tv from 2017 but with HDMI 2.1 and the new consoles I found its limit. But I'd be down for some 120 fps 1080p of some classic games! I even played Overwatch in 2k at 120 hz in this TV. Loved it (obviously lot of response time compared to monitors) and saves me from wanting to upgrade so soon. 4k 60 fps is fine for now (when I save up to get a ps5) and I can do 165hz 2k on PC. I'll eventually make the jump for 2.1. GL too!
I would personally appreciate if games will have an option of 4K/30, 1440/60 or 1080/120. PS5 doesn't support 1440p yet and would've been a sweet spot for 120fps in some games.
Rocket League can't do 120fps, but Borderlands 3 can? That's pretty ironic.
@InsertUsername RL CAN do 120 fps. But Psyonix has to port the game to the ps5. Right now it's only the ps4 version, which is the reason it doesn't run 120 fps.
Great! Too bad the game is hella buggy.
@Flowright 😄-Sounds like we might have the same TV's, mine is a 2017 4K Sony XBR-X930E with Dolby Vision and native 120 Htz panel, when I bought it in 2017 it was like $3200 not including tax!
What's funny is Sony said they could easily add 1440p resolution to the PS5 if there's enough demand, but our Sony TV's actually already support 1440p as well as 1080p at 120fps and 4K at 60fps, so since clearly they've already made TV's that support the resolution why not have the PS5 support the resolution too.
Curious though, how does 1080p actually look on a 4K TV? Is it significantly noticeable? Just picked up a HDMI TV so might give this a shot tonight.
