We know that Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in a dark and sordid world, where humans augment and supplant their physical form with modifications. That means that, ultimately, you’re going to be exposed to a whole lot of nudity throughout the course of the campaign, which some may not be 100 per cent comfortable with.
For those people, CD Projekt RED has revealed that there will be a toggle to censor the more, well, sensitive parts of human anatomy. Łukasz Babiel, a quality assurance lead at the Polish studio, confirmed the tidbit on Twitter. He also revealed that, on the hardest difficulty, his current playthrough has lasted 175 hours.
So you’re going to be spending a whole lot of time in Night City, then? Will you be keeping the nudity on or off? Add some pixels to your protagonist’s crotch in the comments section below.

Gameplay looks really rough on the leaks I have seen. Hope it will be polished come release. I fear for Base PS4 and Xbox.
That’s absolutely fair enough. Some people have kids and are OK with violence as it’s all fake but nudity’s a bit much. Although, it being able to be turned off suggests it isn’t exactly plot relevant which makes me question why it’s in there in the first place!
175 hours on hardest difficulty!
Easiest mode for me then.
Got to love how ridiculous we are as a species, options to turn off nudity in this and the uproar of the sex mini game in San Andreas. 2 games which will involve a lot of stealing cars and killing people and thats perfectly acceptable but naked people and sex? Thats disgusting or horrifying
@carlos82 Always struck me as a bit weird too, but it is what it is. I guess there's no harm in having the toggle.
@get2sammyb
Agree, no harm in having the toggle at all. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla has it too. I prefer this option to censoring games.
@carlos82 It’s less about it being disgusting and horrifying and more that different parents have different standards when it comes to sex and violence. Personally, growing up my mum let us watch whatever violent stuff we wanted as if it was too much for us then we’d just end up scaring ourselves and it was our own fault. She also didn’t care if stuff was sexually explicit because if it was too much then we’d just sit there quietly mortified at having to sit there watching it with our mum. It worked.
Maybe I want to enjoy the story and not be hit over the head with sexual stuff all the time? This actually has me back on board to play it because I do find the story really interesting. I just don’t want to be constantly dealing with the pornographic aspects.
People do realize some adults aren’t into that right? Or is just seen as people who don’t want to subject themselves to that as lame and prudes? We all have our own moral sensibilities
The option is there. Some people are uncomfortable with seeing in-game nudity.
There is no harm in the option I guess.
I am not up to speed with the streaming culture, but could streaming a game on Twitch (or some other platform) that includes nudity be a violation of their terms? I assume there are parental controls to limit what content kids see on streaming platforms based on the game's rating.
This is exactly what they should do. Give sensitive people the option rather than forcing mutilations onto perfectly legal and moral games.
While I don't have any plans to censor myself, I don't see anything wrong with having an in-game option to disable it.
Does the campaign take 175 hours or is it just his playtime thats 175 hours? I only see him mention hes playing very slow and stealthy and doing everything the game has to offer, thats something else than just campaign.
@nessisonett I agree, my brother can’t play but he wants to watch me play so this is a good thing to hear. I remember when he watched me play the original God of war games he had to turn his head or leave because of all the nudity
@WizzNL his playtime is currently 175 and he isn’t finished, but yeah he said he was playing it slow.
I think the San Andreas issue is more that it circumvented the ratings board. So it may have affected the age rating of the game. I used to be fine about violence in games but I think its too realistic now to the point that age ratings should probably be more strict. Even as far as PS1maybe even PS2 it may as well have been Tom and Jerry.
@God_of_Nowt It’s incredible how bad naked polygons look even now. Red Dead 2’s horses are more anatomically correct.
@nessisonett its also rated 18, so whilst I understand the parent/child argument it shouldn't really apply. Whether they want to let their children play it is up to them but it is a product aimed at adults. I've no problem with them including an option, I'd certainly much rather have the option than the game be censored. I just find it weird where these lines are drawn, sex which is perfectly natural and the only reason any of us are even alive today is portrayed as awkward, bad or just a taboo subject whilst extreme violence and murder is seemingly far more acceptable
@jmac1686 it's not moral to be scared or offended by nudity.
My settings:
Blood - maximum
Swearing - maximum
Nudity - yes please
@carlos82 I dunno, I binged quite a few shows over the summer and literally every one had a full frontal naked dude at least once. It was almost comical at that point. As much as I think games need to get out of this nudity=bad phase, it also needs to be nuanced and actually worthwhile or relevant to the plot otherwise we get into HBO territory where they manage to put Trevor from Eastenders’ floppy member into a show about a nuclear disaster. I was absolutely shocked at the original God of War and how it rewarded you for a sex minigame considering the whole Hot Coffee thing was around the same time. Now that was just pointless, as it completely disregarded Kratos’ character arc with his wife and child and vengeance against Ares.
@carlos82 I think there are situations where it could make sense.
For example, lets say you play the game but you don't let your children play it for whatever reason.
I know there were times when my children were younger where I had to be nervous that they would come in and see something they shouldn't. That is much more of an issue with nudity/sex than with violence. With violence/murder/mayhem/etc, it usually takes more than a brief look at the screen. With nudity/sex you may not want family members exposed to that.
Either way, I don't see having a choice as being a bad thing.
@carlos82
I agree with you, that this game is not meant for children, so the underage argument is moot. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage this in game. Worst case they leave all the oversexualised content, just only cover nipples and genitals with black bars...
I think it's not so much for the player, but so as not to upset anyone sitting with you who sees you playing a game with rude bits.
I just hope there's an option to make everyone nude all of the time, that would make for some hilarious cut scenes and screen grabs.
So the game will let you turn off nudity, but the article describing that feature will feature nudity you can't turn off? Seriously, her top is entirely see through, and while I have no issues looking at nude female forms, I wouldn't expect to be doing so, completely uncensored, on the front page of a games journalism website for all ages.
@nessisonett
I think nudity in itself is less of a problem in media nowadays than the oversexualisation of everything. Nudity is just biology, completely natural and should have also a place in games. But using it only for the arousal of horny people is very manipulative and shallow.
@MemSec Yeah, that’s completely fair to be honest. The people chosen in film and TV to do nude scenes are all skinny models with perfect bodies which creates more harm than seeing just a naked person. As with anything, the context is more important than the actual act.
@nessisonett
Agreed. Sometimes I wish creators would treat us more like reasonable people and less like horny consumers playing with our base instincts.
@Assassinated Fair point, I've swapped the image out.
@LemonHaze Can you stop doing this, please? These comments are a bit embarrassing for you.
Great idea for those that prefer violence and hate the human body and for those that only allow violence to their children but not nudity and sex
Nudity On all the way 😛
@graysoncharles What I witnessed the framerate was very choppy and visuals dialed down severely. Hope they sort it out before its released. They need to show a trailer on base consoles so people know exactly wat they are getting. Also I am sure its not the most recent build.
How much nudity and "sensitive parts" can there actually be in a game not rated AO18?
This filter is confusing, it suggests the game has content that couldn't have made it into the game at it s current rating. Or did they pull a fast one over the rating boards somehow?
I mean, it can't be worse than the Death Stranding reveal trailer, right?
@nessisonett Nah its weird if you have a issue with nudity and no issues with beating someone too death.
@Flaming_Kaiser While that’s true, at least most violence in video games is relevant to plot or gameplay. Nudity in video games just isn’t at the level that it’s in any way nuanced or relevant. It comes across, ironically, quite childish in most games. It’s no coincidence that often nudity is only seen in the context of sex workers or as a ‘reward’ for completing a long quest chain. If you look at nudity used in the New Hollywood era in the 70s, it was used to tell a wider story. I think Quantic Dream are probably closest to making their nudity ‘matter’ but it needs to at least be artistic in the slightest rather than being marketed to 15 year old boys or a certain slobbering person in this comment section.
@carlos82 😕-I was literally going to post something based on the subject of the header, and after reading all of your comments, I can't.
Because ALL of your comments are spot on, with my views as well...lol😂.
So all I can say is Ditto to the very well articulated comments you made...lol😂
that 175 number is this years 16x the detail
Nudity and sexuality are two different things. If someone is turned on by nudity in a non sexual environment, that’s on that person. Though I am no fan of censorship at all, perhaps someone struggling with their impulses would appreciate such an option, therefore I welcome this. Generally speaking though, I usually prefer to just walk away and not engage content that offends me. It’s not that hard.
Psssh, I wish some other games would let me turn ON nudity.
@Jimmer-jammer
It seems to me, that mostly puritanism led to the overlap of nudity and sexuality, where being (partially) nude may only happen in a sexual context, thus happening only in private.
@LemonHaze To be honest, your avatar is stretching the boundaries of what is appropriate on this site and your comments leave a lot to be desired.
I'd recommend you step away from this thread for a while and think about whether you want to be a member of this community.
@MemSec I’m sure that has absolutely played a role in the overarching societal views of nudity and sexuality. My main point is just that there is nothing sexual about tearing off a woman’s shirt and bra to properly apply a defribillator or checking for cancerous lumps on a man’s testicles. This may however lead someone struggling with their impulses down a bad path and so I have no problem with the option for someone in healing.
@LemonHaze The thinnest of the thinnest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ciai1aZ_odg
Give Push Square a bit of respect..................another site would have banned your pencil neck by now.
@LemonHaze I'm not going to ban you, no. You're not breaking any rules. I'd just ask you to consider whether the comments you're making are appropriate.
Thank you.
@LemonHaze Ah yes, I forgot women on the beach walk at a 90 degree angle so that their breasts remain exposed and flowing. They must have really bendy spines for women in beaches to resemble your avatar, which is 100% a result of you Googling ‘sexy woman’ while giggling.
Sex and violence aren’t the same. Porn is a big problem for plenty of people, addiction to is a real thing. How it interacts with the mind isn’t all that natural.
This is great and very welcome. It’s a mature thing to do, as some of us don’t want in our games. I hope it becomes a precedent to include options like this.
I also think it’s funny how everyone talks about being art and this mature game that they want immersion and serious storytelling in, yet when the cards fall, this is what you shave to say about options you don’t need to apply. “BUT BOOBS, I WANT BOOBS.” Yeah, good storytelling sure seems like a priority here. Don’t pretend this is about art.
@jimmer-jammer Let’s not pretend the nudity in this isn’t often very sexual. That’s why it’s in the game in first place. Look at the community’s reaction to certain character customization sliders, it’s an inherently sexual reaction.
@LemonHaze Funnily enough, I do like women. I like men too. So the fact you’ve chosen a man in drag as your avatar because you see it as ‘har har nobody can say I have an attractive avatar now’ is just dreadful. Hell, I’d rather ‘do’ your current avatar as they’re less likely to be a ‘hot single woman in your area’ as the pop up ads say. I don’t think it would really be that much more of a difficult life if I didn’t like girls, I’d probably have a largely fulfilling existence with a male partner as I do at the moment, as do others on this site.
Nudity on or off to me is like the option to have gore on or off. It is nice to have options, lots of options.
@Jimmer-jammer
In my experience, people who often encounter non-sexual nudity (e.g. for work) can handle it professionally. On a societal level, I agree, we would be better off with less preconceptions and a healthy, body positive attitude towards nudity. Sure for someone with impulsive problems, such options can help, but if someone has such problems, games may also provide a safe opportunity to condition ones self control, so turning nudity on may be also advisable... let’s just hope gameplay is not too often interrupted for (self) pleasure 😉
Nice to have options. Can they provide option to turn off profanity words too or option to replace some words with something else?! Eg instead of f&&& maybe say fandan. Instead of jc can they say macDonald's instead! Be quite funny!
@LemonHaze It's Great when you are too.
@LemonHaze my purpose today was to relax and comment on CyberPunk 2077......now I must eat.
@LemonHaze Thanks!
@Jaz007 oh, we can’t pretend that’s not the case at all. From what I’ve seen of this game, content is landing on every end of the spectrum and everywhere in between. A hyper sexual situation can also exist with no nudity at all, nothing you can do about that. But it would seem a bit silly to turn off nudity in a sex scene. My point just being that the option is nice for those times when nudity seems pointless or gratuitous for some people. Honestly, my main takeaway from all of this is that if this stuff offends you, it’s probably not the game for you. Also, your take on addiction and openness to a practical solution is mature, candid, and refreshing.
Full frontal assault!
@Jimmer-jammer As far the sex scene goes, it's it has the potential to turn it into something more tolerable in my view. I have a no nudity mod for the Witcher 3, but I do like the characters having romance and that being part of the story, so it makes it easier for me to just look away or skip it or something, while nothing overly extreme jumps out at me, it make it easier to ignore and prevents the more extreme stuff from jumping out, which kind of defeats the purpose of looking away a bit. (as well as other situations just not having it being nice)
And of course those situations exist without nudity, but they are lessened by the lack of nudity, just how violence exists without gore, but is lessened when you take out the gore. Perhaps this option will have some scenes blackout and imply too?
But overall, there's a lot to agree on here and I appreciate seeing a thought-out take instead of a knee jerk reaction that contradicts itself through being juvenile.
@bbq_boy Honesty that'd be a neat option, I don't know about it being a parody, but the more options the better I say.
Do these people avoid looking at themselves in the mirror when they have no clothes on? I mean, you just want to have a shower, no need to bring nudity into it, right? Better not look down as I pee or I might bring some unwanted penis into a simple toilet break. It's so weird to me, the violence might be fake because it features fake people, but the nudity also features fake people. It's all equally not-real if that's the get-out clause for being okay with a beheading but not with a boob.
I'm just amazed so many of you don't want any nudity. Why play this game? Why not stick with Disney Kingdom? If nudity offends you, you'll probably find plenty of other stuff in Cyberpunk that twists your panties, too. Play it safe. Stick with LEGO Batman.
Full-frontal nudity? It sounds like a lot of people will be playing this game in hard mode
I did not expect this comments section to turn out like this. </sarc>
Some people are comfortable with death and violence in games and that doesn't mean they will be comfortable with pornography. Maybe it has to do with traumas or personal experiences and they don't feel like getting triggered while playing a game.
Personally I won't use the censor because I'm not going to draw anything further from it, it's just a video game with some sexual content. Others have trouble doing so and it's nice to see some understanding of that.
What does @Anti-Matter think?
🤔
@Matroska Big difference between showering and seeing others naked. Otherwise we wouldn't care if everybody walked around Walmart naked, but showering obviously does not lead to that in life.
@carlos82 Depends on the naked people!
@Matroska Different people are comfortable with different things. For me, I’m fine with nudity, but gory, visceral violence is way too much for me. Some comments come across like all experiences are equal, but that’s clearly not the case.
@graysoncharles Actually, there are tons of people that have said things and don’t receive any consequences for whatever they said. Someone has to actually go after the person for the consequences to even happen.
I understand, it doesn't add anything to gameplay. However, neither does blood and gore. Option for that would be welcome, too.
Night City is a sordid and disreputable place with over the top crime and violence. Nudity is part of the immersion into this dark world. With cyberware the body and concept of male and female can be swapped. I am sure the male form will be a equally a part of this game.
