It's almost time for another Game Awards. Geoff Keighley's end-of-year awards ceremony, which doubles up as a venue for big announcements, is back once again in December. Before the show gets underway, the man himself has revealed all the nominees for each category. Surprise surprise, The Last of Us: Part II gets the most nods of any game; it's nominated in 10 categories. That includes Game of the Year, as well as Best Direction, Best Performance, Best Music, and more.
Ghost of Tsushima has also done well for itself with seven nominations, while poor old Dreams has to settle for one single nod for Best VR/AR Game. Indie title Hades also finds itself in numerous categories, as does Fall Guys. We won't go over every single nomination below, because it's an absurdly long list, but here are the candidates for Game of the Year:
Game of the Year
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- DOOM Eternal
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Hades
- The Last of Us: Part II
You can read up on all the nominees (and cast your votes) on the Game Awards website. Which do you think deserves the GOTY gong? Have your say in the comments below.

Incoming hate in 3.....2......1
And so it should. An outstanding game that deserves to win Game of the Year.
I never played Hades but I personally think Half-Life Alyx easily could've taken it's place.
But I never played Hades so I'm biased. Still think Ghost of Tsushima deserves it the most on that list.
My personal GOTY. Hell, probably the game of the generation too, the competition's tough with God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.
I'm sure the comments are going to be all nice.
In before the haters. Very well deserved. Well done Naughty Dog. LOU2 is a special game. Game of the generation for me if not for God of War.
Also FF7 and Ghost in the running too. PS users, we have been spoilt this year. Particularly when you consider the circumstances.
With all these wonderful exclusives, its no wonder PS is pegged to do well this coming generation.
These, plus Horizon, Spiderman, Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank and and Astrobot are all in my top ten. All from from first party studios or exclusive to playstation (for now) from partners. What a generation it has been
Miles Morales is my GOTY personally but I'm sure LoU2 will win it.
Loved the game but I also loved GoT and FFVIIR. 3 of my favourites from this year for sure.
I havent played The Last of Us Remastered now. But it is in the PS Plus collection yipee. After that I will buy TLOU2 and hopefully have another blast on the PS5.
Is TLOU II a 3 or 2/10 game? Hell nah, for the moments where you are actually controlling it it has some satisfying tweaks and gameplay systems that improve upon the first game
Is it goddamn 10/10 12/10 game of the decade would nut to Abby getting screwed again type *****? Nah not really
It's a perfectly serviceable game, whose messages are stuff that has been done to death before but not in very interesting new ways in my opinion, that just so happens to be following one of Sony's best first party games in history. I know why it's here, but I don't really think it deserves GOTY next to something like FFVII Remake, Spider-Man or especially Ghost of Tsushima. I ain't in the camp that sends derogatory remarks towards the developers for making Ellie lesbian or implying Abby's trans or any of that dumb crap like that, but this game was honestly a one and done for me. Not super compelling or anything
TLOU2 doesn't interest me at all. It's probably great but I don't think it would crack the top 3 for me. Ghost is truly spectacular. Animal Crossing was well timed and excellent. FF7 was a wonderfully crafted experience. I'm sure TLOU2 is great, just not for everybody.
@redd214 too late for consideration i believe. I think games had to be out by the end of October to be counted
@Rob_230 I think the deadline was like at least early November. Jedi Fallen Order actually released the exact day of the deadline to be considered eligible for a nomination and didn't get picked up
GoT no question.
I loved TLOU2, but we all kind of had an idea of what it would be like. With Ghost I was blown away with everything it had to offer as it was all fresh.
Again nothing against Naughty Dog they got my money no question, but I gotta give it to Ghost.
Now if a new Uncharted came out this year well then that would be my vote as I LOVE those types of games.
cheers
Nominations were mostly what I thought they'd be, the gigantic trio of PS4 exclusives (FFVII Remake, TLoU2, Ghost of Tsushima) being nominated for most awards.
I liked both TLOU2 and GOT either one is fine for me to be GOTY.
GoT is Goty for me, TLOU2 was no where near as good as the first one unfortunately.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't most GOTY nominees end up getting GOTY versions along the way? Or is it only those who "won"?
👻 ghost of tshushima is game of the year.sucker 👊 punch all the nominees.word up son
Great game! Didn’t like it very much though.
Come on Hades! That's my personal GOTY right there; that game is perfection!
I'm glad it was at least nominated; definitely an underrated game.
Another huge year for Sony published games!
Yeah it was a good game, i just didnt really get into it after the joel thing, completed it but not with a smile on my face and never played it again
TLOU2 would be my pick if Animal Crossing wasn't nominated.
GoT is my GOTY. It is amazing.
TLOU2, my favourite PS4 game perhaps. Absolutely deserved.
I'm very pleased with the nominees this year ! Last year apart from Sekiro I wasn't that much interested in seeing who would win but man this year's list is great ! I'd pick TLOU II or DOOM Eternal for the big award but Hades looks great and I can't wait to play it, glad to see Supergiant Games being recognized for their talent and I have yet to play Ghost of Tsushima aswell ! what a year !
Out of the 4 on the list I've played (doom, lou, got and ff7), I have to say, I think the last of us deserves it hands down. It wasn't a flawless experience, and some things bugged me, and admittedly, I enjoyed every game on the list for different reasons, but in terms of impact, story, innovation, immersion and a bunch of other qualities, last of us gets my vote!
@astrosea I always like to wear robes in souls games...
First one was a 10 out of 10 for me. Second one, I'd probably give it either a 9 or a 9.5. Still an amazing game, though and also my GOTY.
@Nepp67 other than having the carpet swept out from under us in the first 20 mins, I'd say the gameplay, at least, has improved since the first, and I actually rather enjoyed the nuance between the (spoiler alert?) 2 characters (sorry!)... I think they did a brave thing with the story though, and I feel that both games have been great. A little hurt still, but thoroughly enjoyed this 'last' one (or 2)
OK, hate me...
For me it is DOOM Eternal. It is big surprise after 2006 letdown and it was also great feeling. I must say this game had great "wow" effect for me and after loooong time I felt happy to be able to play this.
All I see is people getting pre-emptively upset at people who might spew "hate". Or what I like to call it: criticisms. Can't criticise without getting called a troll or hater these days.
Going back to the awards, it's well deserved, I hope it wins GOTY, that or FFVIIR, which I personally enjoyed slightly more. TLOU2 was a solid 9/10. But if people didn't like it, that's fine, I can see and understand why, I'm not bigoted enough to dismiss their complaints as "hate".
A great game with a flawed story that with some minor changes could've been a really good story. Oh well.
@rumple1980 my only gripes with got is being forced into stealth at sections, and the way it just gets super easy very quickly, because of how arcadey it feels. Thats a hats off to the combat, which I'm clearly doing well with, and the world is beautiful, but gameplay wise it isn't very original, and for open world games, horses seem a bit overplayed now. Spiderman was probably the most fun I've had traversing an open world game, and thats not been beat since, I'd say. Got is great, though; it's very fun. And maybe that's my point, lou2 was really a story that you got to play (and it played very well) while got is very much a gamer's game, that feels familiar but looks new.
Animal Crossing will win GOTY. 😐
Very nice. Great game!
Best Narrative
Super happy for Aegis Rim!!
Anyone for Nioh 2? Just me?
The Last of Us 2 probably isn't my favourite game this year, but I have to recognise that it deserves to win the prize. The design, production, controls and specifically the sound were a step up for the industry on the whole.
I really hope Naughty Dog go with a new IP next though. I'm bored of Uncharted and Last of Us characters and settings. It's time for them to apply their skills to a new setting in my opinion.
Ghost of Tsushima all the way. Incredible game!
Out of the 1 2020 game I played, my vote has to go to Ff7, what a great game.
Those eSports categories though. Really, who cares?!
@Sam-Bridges As a PS4 exclusive Part II edges out those two games.
Game of the generation though is Red Dead Redemption 2 followed very closely by The Witcher 3.
😜
@J2theEzzo I know the story and it's just a huge disappointment and especially in the gameplay department. It's the exact same gameplay but very polished and a simple dodge feature. There are some positives like the world, AI, graphics, detail but that's about it. It's a 4/10 from me.
I rather hope TLOU2 doesn't win just because I feel Naughty Dog should no longer be indulged especially with how they've treated people with constructive criticism this year.
Hmmm... I don't know what this says about me as a gamer, but I have only played one of these (AC: New Horizons), and I didn't enjoy it that much; certainly not enough to consider it GOTY.
The other games I am either not interested in, or I have been waiting to get cheaper...
Part II should win most if not all of the categories it's nominated in. Only hard choice for me was choosing between Johnson and Bailey for best performance.
I went with Ashley as I think the story put her through the ringer even more than Bailey's.
Wait... People actually care about the awards part? I just watch for the announcements.
@AdamNovice Death threats and transphobia are considered 'constructive criticism' these days?
Who knew!
🤔
Fully deserved, for me Last Of Us 2 has been the best game Sony have made.
Doom Eternal get put on there as a joke?
@Wormold Too soon. Lol.
@HollowSpectre I don't think most people care but they do like arguing over which game is better. I'm sure it means something if you're in the industry but the rest of us just like something to spar over.
TLOU2 is clearly incredibly well made and pushed the boundaries of story telling in video games I just found it far too bleak and didn’t enjoy playing it.
GoT is my personal game of the year. It’s my favourite open world game if all time and just fun to play from beginning to end.
I’ve recently got the bug for From Software games and I wonder if that would’ve effected how much I enjoyed GoT’s combat had I played them the other way round...
I hope the 3rd game will be a lot lighter , such a dark game lol
@oldschool1987 most people can accept legitimate criticism, it isn't perfect as no game is.
What I still struggle to accept is the "pushing an agenda" garbage that a lot of people still to this day say.
I've completed it twice and still have no idea what this supposed agenda they were trying to push actually is.
@Wormold hilarious.
😒
Still my personal game of the year pre-Cyberpunk 2077.
@NDL08 that's a small fraction of people. I've seen people get called haters and trolls because they weren't happy Joel died. People who criticise the story at all are attacked for it. I'm not on about the tiny fraction who complain about any agenda.
One criticism I agree with is the size of Abbys arms though. They were ridiculous on Chris Redfield, they're ridiculous on her, because the game is much more grounded. But it doesn't detract from the game, I like that character quite a bit.
@oldschool1987 unfortunately it's not a tiny fraction at all, I would say at least half of the TLOU2 hate I've seen is about this "agenda " and "politics." It had cooled down but with todays nomination I've seen it come flooding back.
And you say people get hate for saying they aren't happy Joel died? I Don't think that's true tbh, I've taken part in far more TLOU2 "discussion" than necessary (in part to quarantine) and I haven't seen anyone really get hate for saying they aren't happy he died, nobody was happy he died because we weren't supposed to feel happy when he died.
If you're talking about the people spamming Golf memes under every Naughty Dog tweet then that's a different story.
@djlard Doom Eternal should win. The best fps of the gen. Has literally nothing wrong with it.
@Gremio108 is the second one better? Gave the first 1 an 8. Recycling was too much
One word... Bugsnax
Seeing Hades among these juggernauts is really amazing. So happy for Supergiant Games, well deserved!
@zupertramp as the best first person shooter
@SlySnake0407 Compare Tlou 2 ai vs GoT ai while in stealth.
That should be enough to pick tlou 2.
The third region didn't add anything new and I didn't like the zoomed out dialogue with npcs. Also. It was way too easy to be really enjoyable
The games awards and Geoff Keighley are a joke and have been for most of the time. Geoff will do anything for that "sony access".
The Last of us 2 aside from technical aspects should not be nominated for anything else. This game is hated not disliked hated by half its fanbase. The game is a commercial flop, besides the 4 million games shipped after launch no news about how many copies were sold. Take into account that copies shipped does not equal copies sold. I actually think ghost might have outsold it by now.
Also, I find it hilarious that the last of 2 fanboys think that even if it wins game of year it will suddenly wash away the bad taste or increase the sales of the game.
If you are being an objective person you'll notice the story is really bad. I managed to find these 11 problems very jarring
1. It’s made for the wrong target audience the tone is abysmal.
2. A bad rising action.
3. A poorly used midpoint.
4. Abby’s story lacks direction.
5. there is no sense of urgency.
6. largely pointless flashbacks.
7. Ellie and Joel's relationship is largely unexplored.
8. Abby and Ellie need more sympathetic motivation.
9. Ellie has no arc.
10. Poor character verisimilitude.
11. The supporting cast doesn’t work.
@NDL08 except it is a fraction. The game sold incredibly. Twitter isn't real life. Vast majority of people don't care. And if they do cry about an agenda, ignore them. Don't lump criticisms in with their complaints and don't deny that doesn't happen either, it does. Ive seen many criticise the narrative direction and get called haters for it. Too often.
I fear animal crossing will take the main award which will be the wurst winner in a long time to me, don't get me wrong I understand a lot of people enjoy these slow relaxing games and I even tried it myself on my switch but god was it boring (to me).
@Esuazo10 Hahahahahaha.
You're an idiot.
😜
@Col_McCafferty you should look in a mirror first buddy. 🙃
@Esuazo10 Signed up today just to post that garbage.
I stand by my original assessment.
😁
@Col_McCafferty what can't handle an opinion that doesn't match yours?
@Esuazo10 I've said it before but this game just really feels like an out of order generic revenge story. Abby's story should've been placed in the very beginning, Joel's death should've been placed around the middle or maybe even the end and set it up for TLOU Part 3, and exploring Joel and Ellie's relationship should've been after the Abby's story. For me it would've been more interesting and maybe even unique of a story revolving around Joel's lie.
Huge nominations for Hades. It's such a cool game, hope it comes to PS5
TLoU2, not my GOTY! That's right, I can have my own opinion!! I generally didn't enjoy it.
Now GoT, now there's a GOTY!!
@Esuazo10 you Can't outright lie about it being a commercial flop then cry when you get called out for it.
@Nepp67 exactly the poor pacing and the story structure is what really kills the narrative.
@LiamCroft absolutely not GOTY worthy. A disjointed narrative, awful plot and misguided character choices bring this down. It's technically a beautiful game with improvements over the first in many areas but that's not enough.
@NDL08 well care to give me how many units have the game sold? I gladly accept it, I'm not like others. I can give you the links for the top 20 downloads of ps store since the game launch dropped after July one month from launch. This game was the game of PS4 it should have sold easy 15 million copies by end of the year. It was a massive dissapointment.

@Esuazo10 almost every single player games sales suffer a significant drop off an entire month after launch especially when initial sales numbers were as strong Tlou2 (sony's biggest launch ever.) The majority of single player games sell the the bulk that they will within the first month.
And no it absolutely didn't need to sell 15 million within 6 months to be considered a commercial success, you've just pulled a random number out of your arse and a completely unrealistic one at that.
Name me a single player game that sold 15 million after 6 months.
@UltimateOtaku91 I have over 300 hours logged for ACNH but I'd also be super disappointed if it won. It's great for killing time but it's basically glorified Farmville meets dumbed down Minecraft. Fun but not GOTY worthy imo.
@LiterallyDoNotCare Eh, it wasn't for me but I was just doing some light trolling there. I know it's been well received even if I hated it. Tbf I just want OG Doom with current gen visuals, a more dark and macabre art style, and new levels inspired by the old ones. But I get that's never going to happen.
Some hot takes in here.
@Esuazo10 No ps4 exclusive has sold 15m in 6 months
There is nothing to be washed. Tlou 2 is not my goty, but it deserves to be nominated and do not mind winning
@zupertramp You seem to be asking for a downgrade in gameplay.
@get2sammyb Hot take.
Halo Infinite will win 2021 goty
@NDL08 Maybe red dead 2...
@NDL08 stop spinning the narrative. Yes they have drops but successful games have legs which this game doesn't. It had a great launch because it came of one the most critically and universally acclaim games of all time. Also learn how to read I said it "should have easily sold 15 million" because of the hype of this game. If it was a good game like the first I'll actually think it might have done it. Learn how to read it all about the legs of the game. So the top 20 ps store download I just mentioned you I pulled it out of arse? Huh? Why haven't we got a news about a milestone just like ghost crossed 5 million and Spider-man hitting 20 million? Last of us 2 was supposed to be the swan song of the PS4 and instead was a meh exclusive.
@LiterallyDoNotCare I used the sentence as "it should have easily sold" the PS4 with an install base of over 100 millions, the most hyped game of all the generation. Coming off one of the greatest ps exclusive of all time? Maybe 15 million no? But shattered every possible record
@SlySnake0407 Yeah that's just not going to work for me. When your game has fans enjoying killing a character you're forced to play as, you failed, hard. And it's sad to see a character like Ellie butchered to where she's not herself anymore, all she is a mindless killing machine without any of the traits that made her likeable in the first game. No more Brick ****ing Master, comic loving Ellie, anymore. I want to be interested in the next TLOU they make but no I can't, not after the ending, not after Joel's death, etc.
@LiterallyDoNotCare That's 1 and I'm going to assume the only 1 this gen and it's from the biggest game dev itw + multiplat.
@Esuazo10 The game is the third top most sold game this year. So if tsushima did 5m, tlou 2 should have something over that. It already made its money back plus waaaay over that.
@Esuazo10 no game should "easily" sell 15 million after 6 months, the game in your pfp didn't even manage that and that's SPIDERMAN which is far more of a household name than The Last Of Us, is one of the biggest IPs itw and goes beyond gaming... Yet still didn't sell 15 million after 6 months, was that a commercial flop aswell?
And I said you pulled the number 15 million out of your arse (which you did.) I couldn't care less about whatever store links you gave.
@Nepp67 You have to thank Joel for Ellie being the way Ellie was in this second part.
@NDL08 exactly. Nothing will beat gta 6 next gen
@Col_McCafferty Yes, I agree that both Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are amazing games. They're definitely on top of my list.
@LiterallyDoNotCare then again why haven't we had any news about milestone sales? Well I hate to break it to you but the game doesn't have legs.
@LiterallyDoNotCare I suppose but I don't really see it that way. More grounded gameplay is how I'd describe it. But again, I acknowledge I'm basically a purist so I'll just stick to the originals.
@LiterallyDoNotCare I'll blame the writers instead for that.
@NDL08 GTA v sold 7.2 million on ps3 it's opening week....... Spider-man just reached 20 million let that sink in , just imagined if it was released for xbox and PC? Spider-man maybe a household name but not at gaming level like last of us is well was . Spider-man has had trash games before.Spider-man was praised by critics and fans alike not like last of us 2. Learn how to read I said should do you know what that means? Yeah you don't care about the links because the truth upsets you. Coming from the website that made the game.
@Esuazo10 look at you signing up just to rant about a game that did well despite all your pouting.
@Esuazo10 top 3 for the whole year is a milestone.
@Nepp67 That is good writing tho.
She was raised by a kill on sight killer.
@Esuazo10 Gta 5 is the biggest game of all time in the biggest game series of all time, any comparisons to that are futile and the fact that you're going to those lengths to desperately try to save your argument is telling.
And it doesn't matter what level you put Spiderman at gaming wise, it's one of the biggest IPs itw and is always going to appeal to the huge casual market aswell because of the name. Still tho it didn't manage 15 million after 6 months.
You didn't answer last time so I'll ask again, was Spiderman a commercial flop because it didn't sell 15 million after 6 months despite transcending gaming and being one of the biggest IPs itw?
@Esuazo10 I think you made fair points about the game I'll be honest once you get past the small minority of true haters a lot of fans feel similar including myself just everyone buddles us with them as it's easier than listening to feedback that they don't want to hear.
I disagree when people think we should empathise with Abby, if she'd killed some randomer that killed her dad fair enough but she killed Joel the guy you spent 30 hrs playing, trying to look after what was effectively an adopted daughter by the end of the game. Hell I'd even settle for an outright revenge game even if Ellie decided to let Abby live, whilst not very original I would have enjoyed it more than being forced to play a character I neither liked, added anything new game play wise or empathised with, I just think it was a very poor choice inserting the Abby arc and was put in the there thinking it was bold and original.
Whilst visually stunning and certain elements were better in Last of Us I thought Ghost was the better alrounder, I much preferred Jin and his Uncles relationship, hell even Peter Parker and Dr Octavius had a better character relationship to what I saw in Last of Us.
Based on the media reaction compared to the player reaction to the releases of Last of Us and Ghost I would not be surprised if Last of Us gets all the game awards, they are just like they Oscars totally out of touch. I just feel this all about keeping console god's happy.
Personally for the games I enjoyed the most in 2020 are below though I'd drop Last of Us way down the list when compared to all games this gen.
1) Ghost of Tsushima
2) Final Fantasy VII Remake
3) Last of Us 2
@LiterallyDoNotCare Uhhhhhh ok..
@LiterallyDoNotCare That was one of my main problems with the first one (that and the fact that half the bosses were just sponges) and while there's some recycling here, it's nowhere near as bad. The game keeps stepping things up all the way through
@LiterallyDoNotCare according to the npd it's Madden 21.
@NDL08 "no game should "easily" sell 15 million after 6 months" this is you. You are getting called out. GTA v actually out sold last of us 2 in the month of September if you cared to look at the top 20 you'll know what I'm taking about. A 7 year old game outselling the most hyped PS4 exclusive.
Spider-man PS4 by the end of the 2018 sold 9 millions copies 🤷🏾♂️. Yes because we can compare spider-man 3 the movie game with the last of us?
Geez I don't know spider-man reaching 20 million and being actually loved by users and critics alike? You tell me if it's a flop.
I'm a PlayStation fan but I'm not gullible fanboy like you, so then again who is the desperate one?
Ghosts and Hades for me. But no surprise about TLOUII.
While I enjoyed the game's scenery and combat, the story was a mess imo.
@DeadManInBlack I couldn't agree more with you. Ghost really deserves game of the year. It was better written and way more fun than last of us 2. What the fanboys doesn't understand it the game didn't resonate with all it's fanbase.
@Esuazo10 nope
@Esuazo10 what ghost fanboys dont understand, the game didnt resonate with all its fanbase
@Esuazo10 gta 5 has been in the top 10 near enough every week since 2013 lmao, it would have outsold God Of War at various points in 2018, Uncharted 4 at various points in 2016, Witcher 3 at various points in 2015, Sekiro at various points in 2019 etc. That doesn't mean any of those games are commercial failures as you are claiming TLOU2 is because like I said it's the biggest game of all time.
By mid 2019 Spiderman sold 13 million, just short of the 15 million required for the last of us 2 to be a commercial success in your eyes (in 4 less months,) but still it's no doubt impressive and the fact you expect the last of us to outsell freakin Spiderman is absolutely ludicrous.
Imma say the desperate one is the guy who created an account for the sole purpose of crying about a game he didn't like.
@Esuazo10 here ya go
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-08-16-the-last-of-us-part-2-is-the-third-highest-grossing-game-in-the-us-in-playstation-history
@Esuazo10 TLOU 2 sold 4 million in 3 days which beat god of war and spiderman sales in their first 3 days on sale.
But tbh the last of us is a third person adventure Shooter which don't fare aswell as gta and spiderman as let's be honest a lot and I mean a lot of kids play those games and spiderman brings with it the marvel name which instantly brings sales whilst TLOU 2 is targeting a much smaller audience.
Also anyone notice the lack of xbox games lol just goes to show Microsoft are still miles away from creating any note worthy exclusives.
If people are voting on actual gameplay, story, lore, mechanics, game world and art, then there's only one winner, ghost of tushima.
@NDL08 comparing gta with TLOU2 is pointless in terms of sales, GTA is on xbox 360, ps3, ps4, xbox one, ps5, series X/S and PC whilst TLOU2 is only on the ps4.
One day an article featuring The Last of Us Part II won't bring out all the freaks and nut jobs.
One day.
😒
@UltimateOtaku91 Well, in your opinion.
I haven't played Ghost yet but I doubt I'll find it to be better than Horizon Zero Dawn and that game I rate a tad below Part II.
I look forward though to playing GoT one day.
If TLOU2 wins "best narrative", there will be riots in the streets lol.
Best of luck to underdogs 13 sentinels, Hades, Carrion, Crash Bandicoot 4 and Doom Eternal.
@Col_McCafferty Yep RDRII is Game of the Gen for me AND TLOUII deserves GOTY 2020.
The game awards is a joke, even though I dislike Last of Us part 2 I would have respect if the award, was was won legitimate but if it's force I can't respect it.
The Last of Us pt. 2 is the greatest game I’ve played all console generation. Such a thought provoking tragic piece of art. Don’t give a damn about the haters, they didn’t even give it a chance. Bring on the HBO series and pt. 3 Naughty Dog, I’m ready to cry all over again!
@NDL08 And yet you keep missing the point it's about the legs of a game. Yes, but God of war, Spider-man, Uncharted 4, Witcher 3, Sekiro were well received by users. And those games have legs that why they keep selling. Ghost in October climbed back up in the top 20. The last of us hasn't been in the top 20 since July, that's 3 months after launching which is a sign that people just don't like the game, maybe if they decided to release factions it might appear again.
Learn how to read the 15 million came after a should, I mentioned it to establish that a game with that much hype and coming off of the success of the original should be selling like hotcakes. Stop spinning the narrative of the argument. And we can compare the last of us 2 and Spider-man as both are ps exclusives. And as a ps exclusive last of us 2 is had more hype than spider-man ps4.
I giving you actual charts from the ps store which is where you expect the last of us 2 to do the best in terms of selling. The game can have all the critics(nobody takes them seriously) praise it wants but if it doesn't resonate well with its core audience it won't have legs and die off.
So trying to white knight this game like you after being presented with valid arguments, you're the one that reeks desperation. I'm not crying about the game, in fact, I actually want it to win as the backlash will be huge and fun.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree that the game had a great launch, but that doesn't mean it will have legs after. But last of us 2 came off of one the most beloved and acclaimed ps exclusive ever. No other ps4 exclusive has had that much hype. The first game sold actually 17 million so it has a huge install base. The last of us 2 is a technical masterpiece but other than that is meh. Ghost really deserves it.
@LiterallyDoNotCare yeah an outdated article, yes the game had an outstanding launch, and coming off the success of the first it completely normal. But I'm talking about the legs, the game after launch. It's not doing well. Just go check the ps store top 20 after July it fell off.
@Esuazo10 it has sold like hotcakes, somebody linked at article saying it was the 3rd highest grossing ps4 game in the US a bit further up and that's only going to increase with factions and a potential PS5 re release if they choose to go down that route.
Sure you can compare TLOU2 and Spiderman sales if you want, but you look incredibly stupid if you seriously think TLOU is going to outsell a global Juggernaut in Spiderman.
You keep banging on about "legs" but I've already told you 95% of single player games suffer a huge drop off after a month with the 5% being Rockstar games and established IP's that go beyond gaming such as Star Wars and Spiderman.
@Esuazo10 take the L
@Turbodream No, there really won't.
@LiterallyDoNotCare after you sire
By some of these metrics there must be something terribly wrong with me because this game’s narrative totally worked for me. Finding the story unenjoyable doesn’t make it objective fact that the writing or structure was bad. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but some of these takes are a little ridiculous. The fact that this game wasn’t at all what I was expecting actually added to my appreciation of it. I’m still chewing on a lot of the themes, still haunted by a lot of images and some of the scenarios are burned into my memory for good. That seems to me like a pretty great piece of entertainment and worth the price of admission...guess I need to see a doctor.
@Col_McCafferty Sad thing is, I don't think this person is new though. I'd bet money Esuazo10 is edulanza10 who has been signed up since July. Not sure why they feel the need to jump on any time TLoU 2 is mentioned (and with multiple accounts at that) but peoples is peoples I guess.
@NDL08 yeah I did and do you care to elaborate on whats the date on the article? Yes liked I've told you it had an outstanding launch but just because it shipped 4 million doesn't equal that it sold 4 million. People kept uploading images about the game sitting on stores for months. I don't how to post images here otherwise I would show you a collection of those.
So if it's selling like hotcakes like you say why hasn't naught dog, sony, or heck even this site? publishes stories about selling incredibly well after the launch. Don't you think after a few months this game would easily reach at least 8 million if it launched with 4 million?
You are the one that keeps missing the point I'm not comparing Spider-man as a brand, I'm comparing the 2018 game. Spider-man games had been mediocre for a while. The first last of us sold like 17 million that's a huge fanbase so don't giving the last of us is not a powerhouse brand in the gaming department.
Nobody is talking about drops. At the end of the day legs is what matters, your game can have the greatest launch in history but if it did go well with its core audience it will die off like this game. Maybe a ps5 release might do something only the persons that liked it might double-dip, but still, that won't wash away the bad taste it left.
@Esuazo10 Jesus christ it's like talking to a brick wall, Imma draw the line here otherwise this will be going on until next year.
All I'll say is if you actually created an account to cry about a game you didn't like then I feel for you, you've called me a "Fanboy" for stating the fact that TLOU2 wasn't a commercial failure at all. I didn't even bother arguing with your myriad of other complaints.
Focus more on things you like and you will enjoy life a lot more.
@Col_McCafferty How typical, thinking everything that criticized TLOU2 were death threats. Many including myself spoke out against the game because it sacrificed beloved characters for the sake of a cliched revenge story with underdeveloped characters. Put simply it was both divisive and clever for it's own good that for many was a bitter disappointment. And I didn't need to resort to threats like others to get my point across but Naughty Dog aren't going to learn if they dismiss all criticism.
@NDL08 It's not my problem that your counter-argument is weak and without proof. If you are gonna argue with someone you better be ready to back up your points. Doesn't matter when I created my account. What I need a badge or something you have to post my opinion with valid criticism? You don't bother to argue because you still haven't counter-argue my points.
I'll give a final example maybe you might get the point take a look at star war the last Jedi grossed 200 million its opening weekend (critics loved it by the way) which was huge then after word of mouth got out at the end of the day it did 1.3 billion. But you might say 1.3 billion is a lot, but it divided the fan base and it was considered a failure after force did 2 billion. That movie and this game are very similar both divided their core audience.
So giving the last of us part 2 game of the year, best narrative nomination when the game divides its fan base and where a huge group of people hates the game and when there are better other options is actually laughable.
@AdamNovice I disagree. It got more hate (if that's the right word - people like yourself, not the homophobic idiots; they don't matter) because it isn't the cliched revenge story that would have delivered easy answers and a neat, satisfying ending. It was messy and traumatic and I don't think we'll see anything as daring again on that kind of budget anytime soon.
It's a work of art. Art can be divisive. (Tsushima is too, but in a very different way. Edit: Tsushima is art, not divisive - everyone loves that game - it's pretty.)
@Esuazo10 dude what on earth are you talking about?
@AdamNovice Never give into the mob, that would be the worst thing Naughty Dog could do.
We wantt studios to take some risks don't we? To be bold and maybe even a tad reckless rather than just play it safe. Not to mention the fact that millions of people loved this game but no they should listen solely to the haters instead.
🤔
@NDL08 I ended up putting that guy on ignore as his purpose was clear.
No 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim anywhere? That easily has the best narrative of 2020
People who give the LoU2 10/10 are as bad as the people who give the game a 0/10.
Let's try to be objective in a world where people sell their dignity for 5 minutes of recognition.
@LiamCroft.... So Judging by the nominees the Lou PT 2 takes game of the year easily
@Col_McCafferty.... Ever considered starting a gaming website like this.....
You got a develish taste is great games.....
Couldn't agree more........ Struggled and couldn't get into TW3 for a year and a half a considered it one of the most overrated game this gen..... Then the past 3 weeks I just decided to just get stuff in and oh my God the praise and hype for the game is truly deserved and it is a masterpiece and a game of the generation and actually held the bar for Open world and rpg and narrative /story and also combat which I struggled to get into and thought combat controls were janky until I understood that role play/narrative is embedded into the combat(the game forces you to fight like a Witcher in context with Geralt being a Witcher.....i.e. Not being a hacker and slasher by relying on the sword combat but imbbedding alchemy into combat )....
RDR2 you can see TW3 influence as the game improves on TW3 would building by combining the narrative /story to the game would which makes the characters and the world feel completely alive.....
One of the things I'm interested to see in CP2076 is the improvement on the combat concept from the TW3
@Texan_Survivor Yes, everyone who gave Part II a 10/10 is a shill.
🤦🤦🤦
Listen to yourself, man.
I'd give it a 10/10 as well but Sony haven't sent me a cheque!
@DotM what I found hilarious is that they don't admit that there was positive review bombing and all that effort made the user score go to 5.7 😂. Also the same persons that gave 10/10 gave ghost 0/10
@Texan_Survivor have you seen the laughable jury ? All the typical 🤡 from the gaming community.
@AndyKazama Actually, it is nominated for best narrative against FF7, Hades, Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU2. 13 sentinels deserves to win, but honestly any nominee except TLOU2 would be ok by me. That ending was HORRIBLE.
@Col_McCafferty r/woooosh.
I hope that GOT will crush TLOU2 (it would in an objective world).
Anyways, nobody cares about the Game Awards apart from a very tiny minority of enthusiasts (us) and TLOU2 is old news now.
See you in 2021 or 2022 for the HBO series. It's gonna sucks so hard lol
@Turbodream Woosh yourself.
Oh and now you're targeting the TV series as well!
Sheesh you people really are obsessed as well as possibly deranged.
🙄
@Turbodream that it's a case of I easily missed that. 😅
@SterlingEyes From Software games are my favourite games of all time, but I've been putting off GoT because the masses seem to love it and the last time I played a game that everyone loved (GoW) I was massively disappointed. I was just going to wait for GoT to be under £20 but you say its got similar combat to Souls games? I've seen gameplay and it doesn't look like it does but I'd like to hear why you compared From's games to GoT
@James_42 no, my point was more that I don’t know if I would’ve enjoyed GoT as much if I’d started playing From Software games first because combat is so much more intricate in FS games.
GoT has really a really fun combat system for an open world game with some cool features such as switching stances for different enemy types but it’s still more ‘hack n slash’ And much easier in general.
I loved GoT and highly recommend it but it’s not at all like From Software. It’s just different.
@James_42 I liked GoW but I didn’t love it. GoT was way more enjoyable for me with better combat
I know this will sound crazy, but I am routing for TLOU2 for GOTY. I totally understand why many had issues when it pertains to the story and characters(Myself included) though I was still able to enjoy it.
