It's taken an age and a half, but we finally have footage of Cyberpunk 2077 running on PlayStation consoles. New gameplay from CD Projekt Red shows the open world RPG on both PS4 Pro and PS5 — the latter being the PS4 version of the game played via backwards compatibility.
Thankfully, the game looks pretty good on PS4 Pro, but we did notice a few frame-rate drops here and there — especially in the city. The resolution also looks a little blurry on last-gen hardware, but it's obviously hard to tell for sure when you're watching a YouTube video. Meanwhile, things are looking good on PS5 — the additional hardware power quite clearly has an impact.
The question, then, is how well this thing will run on a regular PS4. Obviously we don't have any PS4 gameplay to gawk at — and there could be a reason for that if Cyberpunk 2077 is already pushing PS4 Pro to its limit. We'll have to wait and see, but we wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a bit rough.
It's also worth reiterating that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a full PS5 upgrade at some point in 2021 — for free if you already own the game on PS4.
How do you think Cyberpunk 2077 is looking on PlayStation? Give us an analysis in the comments section below.

Let's go! Can't wait for this, December 10th can't come any sooner!
Nice. Cant wait to play on PS5
Yeah, it’s got that trademark blur the PS4 is known for with multiplat games but it looks playable! I’m just going to wait for the PS5 patch, I have a big enough backlog already!
people tend to forget that there are 100m BASE ps4 models in the wild. what people NEED to see is cyberpunk running on base ps4 because right now there is a lot of doubt that it's even possible. cdpr is beating around the bush and it is very concerning. i predicted years ago that the game would be horrendous on the base consoles so nothing would surprise me. there are going to be many disappointed gamers around the world come december if performance is even remotely on the same level as "control" for base ps4 owners.
Have they stated when the full PS5 version will be released?
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk Not yet, just "2021".
I'm still torn if I want to play this on PS5 via backwards compatibility, on PC at 1080p ultra settings, or wait for the PS5 upgrade.
@Cheski
All 3! 😆
Does look good but all it showed was a dead city. Had no atmosphere to it
@nessisonett I’ve played all my multi platforms on PS54 Pro and have never had a blurry game.
@Medic_Alert you’ll be waiting a very long time knowing their track record
@Porco I’m expecting it to be awful on the base consoles. Wouldn’t be surprised if it drops to 720p or 900p, especially on Xbox One base
Looks fine. Although maybe they can get Jackie to actually turn the steering wheel when he turns a corner. Minor detail but sticks out.
Super excited to play it though, roll on Dec 10.
@ShogunRok I can wait might as well play it at it’s best.
@jmac1686 Metro Exodus and the Assassin’s Creed games which I’ve played recently both used blurring of objects to save RAM. Objects lack visual clarity as they move past a certain distance as the PS4 lacks RAM compared to a PC. PS5 will not have this problem.
Yeah I’ll wait until 2021 when they have the PS5 upgrade. I’ve already got miles morales ultimate, assassins creed, and a few PS4 games I’ve been waiting to replay in the PS5 (GoT, TLOU2, Death stranding, days gone, and more)
@jmac1686 no doubt. i am most concerned about the performance of the framerate. control on base ps4 literally turned into a slideshow (10-20fps range) in some areas which tells me the base console ports were an afterthought. did cdpr take the same approach? we'll find out soon enough.
I hope its a dynamic resolution and uncapped framerate. If so it will be awesome on PS5. Base PS4 is not going to be good. You can see they are hiding Base Xbox and PS4 versions a tad worrying for millions.
@Porco I also remember the Witcher at times being a sideshow in some areas. Especially the boggy areas.
Not bad, not bad at all for a console that can barely run Crysis. (joke I know that it's the porters fault, not the system)
It looks good, it certainly looked sharper on PS5 and smoother. Its difficult to tell what resolution and framerate gains there are on a YouTube video such as this but I'm very excited to play it at launch on PS5. Then I'll save a second playthrough with a different origin for the full fat next gen version and this game looks to be highly replayable
Still concerns me that they don't show base PS4 and XO gameplay
I need info about next gen patch. Someone reply me.
I might get it on the pro since this game was not made with next-gen in thought. If it is just raytrace... meh
@Medic_Alert I’m waiting too, couldn’t agree with you more about waiting to play the best version of the game
I'll wait for the native PS5 version.
Quality of the YouTube video is terrible. Or the game just looks this blurry.
Do all cars go 10 MPH in the future?
Ps4 pro footage is pretty good but I want to play it on ps5. I think I'm getting the game digital version when I have ps5.
Yikes, that looks horrid.
It looks amazing on the ps4 pro.wors up son
C'mon 10th Dec I have no worries on my non pro PS4 I have faith in handing over £55 that CD Projekt Red will not let me down 100s of hours of enjoyment on the way..................I Fancy being a Street Punk.
It could be YouTube compression, but it doesn't even look 1080p on PS4 Pro to me. If it's not even 1080p on PS4 Pro, then you're looking at like 576p on base PS4.
We'll see. I'm assuming it's YouTube.
I'll play this on PS5 ASAP! 10th Cant come soon enough Then I'll play it again with the 2021 upgrade.
LOL I wonder how blurry and low-res the base Xbox One version of this game will be.
@nessisonett. I dont see the blur you talking about.i play a lot of games on my ps4 pro.and i dont see it.maybe your tv. Or your eyes need to check up.but i never see it.it looks great on ps4 pro.word up son
A game this grand will be banked until i get a ps5 and said system patch is out. Until that time i will put it to the back of my mind and chip away at the back log on my pro.
@jmac1686. I know right i say the?same thing i never had a blurry game myself also the game looks?amazing von my ps4 pro.he needs to get his eyes check or his 📺 tv is messed up.word up son
I didn't realise the PS5 wasn't releasing on the 10th. I thought it got delayed due to it needing more work on the last gen versions, so assumed the next gen versions were good to go.
@Max2574 It‘s obviously capped at 30 fps. With dynamic resolution, 4k seems possible. With the 2021 PS5 update, we hopefully get an optional 60 fps performance mode and better texture filtering, shadows etc. I would be perfectly fine with solid 60 fps and the shown visuals!
It looks quite last-gen to be honest. Shadows in particular, but other details too. Will wait for ps5 version.
@playstation1995 Then you aren’t looking. Walk up to an object in any game on PS4 and make a note of its visual clarity. Then walk away from the object. Does it still look as sharp? No it does not, it lacks detail and is blurred. It’s a basic way to maintain steady performance but since PS5 is the more powerful system, it doesn’t need to utilise this to the same extent.
It seems the incident you watch from the car involves the chap from the teaser trailer years ago!

@nessisonett @playstation1995 even more so, just about any game will see “pop in” where you can see objects literally appear/disappear as you take one step forward/back, because it is saving CPU/GPU time on distant objects.
Even on new consoles, you see the same thing. For example you may get ray traced reflections for near objects, but screen-space reflections for distant objects.
This actually looked like it was running a little bit better than last weeks video of xbox 1. In that one, it seemed like the player was walking too slowly, maybe to avoid any glitches. This seemed to be at proper speed, even on ps4. We'll know for sure in a couple of weeks!
I'm waiting for the ps5 version, as I said I was right from the moment they explained the plan for the Sony releases was.
@nessisonett. Yes it does look sharp in my tv.i never had a blurry problem.some ps5 games will have pop up also.no system is perfect.i play a lot of games on ps4 pro i never seen it.and yes i look up close.word up son
@Mega-Gazz i agree even on ps5 pop in will be there also.no system is perfect.i play a lot of ps4 pro games i never.ever had a blurry game.word up son
@playstation1995 Oh no, this isn’t an opinion, this is literal fact. Games use these methods on base and Pro PS4, this is fact. Look at the grass under your feet in a game, it will look dense and detailed. Look at the grass in the distance, it looks blurry and out of focus. This is a clear fact, not an opinion. An easy way to see this is to find a game with a photo mode that has a moveable rig and actively compare the detail of objects close to the camera to when they’re far away. I can guarantee you 100% that they change.
Looked pretty underwhelming to me. Could be YouTube compression at work but I think I'm just gonna keep my game sealed till the ps5 patch arrives.
I've a bad feeling CDPR have bit off more than they can chew with the current gen versions.
I can’t understand many of you blaming youtube for the low image quality. CDPR could have uploaded the video in 4K, but they didn’t. One would think you want to present your game in the possible light...
Got no interest in driving around an empty city at 10mph. Looking as if waiting for the proper next-gen patch is wise. Especially as gives them time to issue a load of patches by then too.
Is it just me or do the streets look dead?
@nessisonett I notice the blur a lot for example in Train Sim you can see the track in front of you in detail but if you look further down the track its a track but a blurry track and you only see the detail once its up close..................Are you saying the PS5 will eliminate that ? because that's been there like forever .
@nessisonett. It looks good on my tv.grass everything looks really good.word up son
@Number09 Theoretically, a PS5 port of Train Sim would be able to render more detailed objects at a further distance than the PS4 version. I wouldn’t think that the PS5’s BC would help with that as AFAIW it’s baked into the code though. Depends if they patch in a PS5 performance mode.
Day one, original PS4 and I'm going to absolutely love it! So bloody close now.
@nessisonett ah right because that distant blur is kinda like an annoyance now as far as Sony are concerned they done all they can.....It is up to the publishers now....anyway thanks for that info i'll pick one up nearer to when P.E.S. 2022 is near completion I will have a more clear understanding of what the PS5 Is capable off by then.
I will get this game when the upgrade to PS5 becomes available. Ive got loads of other games i can play till then.
I wasnt originally planning on getting a PS5 at launch so was happy to get the PS4 version. However, as i have a PS5, i am just going to waitfor the native version, similar to Yakuza Like a Dragon
I'm slightly concerned that they're not showing the base PS4 version, but hopefully it'll be fine in time for release.
Can’t wait to try out ray tracing & DLSS 2.0 - December 10th is the next gen version for me!!
@Medic_Alert I personally don’t see it
Looks good, but I'll just wait till the PS5 version drops. I want the raytracing, better textures, and true 4K
@nessisonett You're being a bit of a moving target here... Your initial comment said trademark PS4 blur, insinuating that blurriness is specific to the PS4. Your second and third points you followed up with were valid, but your insinuation of multiplatform titles only ("trademark") being "blurry" on PS4 is inaccurate. I would not describe these things as blur anyways..
@ILikeStake Distant objects are blurry. This is seen on PS4. This is seen in this video. It was ‘trademark PS4’ because PC (above a certain point) and PS5 don’t have this problem. It’s nothing to do with PS4 vs Xbox, more that both current gen consoles have had problems with texture pop-in and blurry textures.
@nessisonett I disagree with you about PS5 and high end PCs not having downgraded LOD textures at distance. Yeah, its not needed as much as on a lower end PC (or XOne or PS4), but I'm sitting here staring at Valhalla on PS5 and the LOD textures changing as I move. Again...there is no argument about textures being downgraded at distance (the blurry you refer to), the insinuation that this was specific to PS4 (trademark) was what caused me to comment. All lower end computers, of which I consider the PS4 to be at this point, have this trade off.
@KPraj I agree with you. Looked empty.
ok, Maybe I am being pessimist here, but I think there's a reason why they're only showing slow pace images on ps pro: the disk speed. Pop-ins are a real problem with the stock disk. The division 2 had a lot of problems with this when it came out, and it still has some.
My guess is, ps5 has no problems with this (that's why we had the car chase on the ps5) but ps 4 will have issues with the reading speed.
Or maybe not, and it will be the greatest game to run on a ps4.
Getting it on pc I know for a fact it won't play good on my base PS4 console anyone who thinks it will is hoping to much. If it's got FPS drops with to much dense areas for the pro then the base will struggle even more it will be like the crappy version of Fallout 3 on PS3.
This game needs plenty of ram and VRAM and the base doesn't have enough and the pro I think is just struggling, I'd say worst for the ps5 version personally for that much better experience. The PS4 physical mech HDD is just too slow for it even if you have an SSD in your PS4 it wouldn't be any faster I don't think. The ps5 SSD as well know was designed with it and has that brilliant SSD controller for fast data flow
@Medic_Alert yeah I been thinking the same thing have a ps5 but not a super great pc.
But u know what... I'm just gonna play the ps4 v on ps5... f it lol. Then if the game is as good as its supposed to be. I'm definitely the type to replay good games.
@Cheski Same here. I can not for the life of me decide on 1080p High settings on PC, or play it on the PS5 with the PS4 version. Waiting for the "official" PS5 release definitely isn't an option for me. I have sufficiently succumbed to the hype. Hahaha.
@nessisonett They are patching in a PS5 performance mode....lmfao.
