One of the coolest features of the PlayStation 5 is the implementation of the Activity Cards, and how they allow you to almost immediately load into missions, levels, or time trials. In this one minute video clip uploaded by Josh Read and shared on ResetEra, he gives an effective demonstration of the feature in action.
So, what do we see here? Well, in under 70 seconds, he goes from the PS5’s menu to one of Sackboy: A Big Adventure’s hub worlds, into a level of Astro’s Playroom, and then begins a side-quest in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. This feature is incredibly convenient, and with the right implementation looks poised to change the way we play!

Sure, but am I willing to pay 3 times as much for my games in order to have them digital? If we have them physically then we’ll be spending a significant amount more time than this! Lol
Still. Nice to be able to jump into different parts of a level or activity. I think Sony should also have a section under every game with the game saves for each game, so you can just jump straight in without having to go to the main menu and through splash screens on some games.
This genuinely looks like a concept video that you'd have said would be impossible a year ago 😍
@thefourfoldroot same as you. I've gone with physical releases with a number of games. I think down the line I will experience this kind of quick navigation as PS5 games go on sale but right now I cannot stomach full price digital.
Wow this is amazing
@CKFilms wait for sales or use CD keys, got horizon zero dawn digitally for £6 during a PS store sale, GOW was also like £8. The PS collection will be a great chance to get great games digitally too
Yeah, it’s pretty cool. You need to be able to pin them, though. It’s so nice skipping the main menu and logos.
Quick note to anyone in UK, shopto have decent sale for PSN codes got £8 off £45 psn credit saved myself alot on ps5 digital
@CKFilms
Although thinking about it, most of my games these days are digital through PS Now snd soon PS Plus...
Oh wow, didn't know you could do that outside of the games, I've been loading them before doing it. =[
@Ssimsim mad how cd keys offer less money off than shop to but barely anyone uses shop to.
This is pretty awesome. Need a disc changer like the good old days.
@Medic_Alert Yeah, feels too much like shortcutting. Plus it's the journey, not the destination so I just have no interest in splitting my games up into tiny tasks that serve as nothing more than means to an end. But to each their own I guess.
@thefourfoldroot you do know digital or disc they both run from hard drive! Great shout on game saves tho!
@Jamboro
But you need the disc in the console if you want to play. It might download the game to the hard drive and play from there, but it’s locked unless the disc can be read. It’s like a key. Otherwise people would just share discs around and sales would plummet!
@get2sammyb There's something I don't understand, if you could elucidate me it would be great. Are you able to jump into any point using those cards? Or only adjacent things to where you are at in the story/game? Like, using DS as an example, would you be able to jump into any area of the world stones?
@Athrum it looked like the latter in the UI demo. Guessing it'll be most useful for nonlinear open world stuff, but for more linear adventures maybe it'll just give you where you're up to on multiple saves/profiles?
Impressive! Cutting out all the logos & menus makes this basically as fast as quick resume.
Though as mentioned, swapping physical discs will slow you down lol
I have not used these yet
@Medic_Alert I was skeptical about it going in, but after giving it a spin I think it's pretty great in certain situations.
Case in point, I was playing Astro's Playroom on Friday night and whiffed on picking up one of the artifacts in the Memory Meadow levels. This morning, I had about 15 minutes of free time so I fired up the PS5, clicked on the card for Memory Meadow, and was taken directly to the level I needed to go to. I was really blown away at how well it worked.
@Sub-Xero Aren’t we all. ^_^
I'd love to be able to create activity cards for myself to jump into a game at a specific point of my choosing. Would have been awesome when I was practicing speedrunning Bloodborne.
Im guessing some of these activity cards unlock over time via progression? Cant imagine when something like Horizon, god of war etc release you will be able to do the activity "beat the final boss" before you have progressed to said final boss via the intended route and character upgrade path.
Wish it was faster though.
@ChilledAtGaming I think that depends on implementation, it could easily be a case that you can only go back to challenges at locations you've already visited.
Who needs quick resume when we have this, which is basically same thing ))...It is amazing. Enjoy!
