The Pokémon-like experience from Crema Games, named Temtem, comes to PlayStation 5 next week in an early access phase. But besides its close relations to the card collecting and gaming powerhouse, you may not be sure what to actually expect. Wonder no longer then because the developer has just put out a trailer detailing the sort of gameplay you'll be partaking in from 8th December 2020.
You'll be able to play through a story-driven campaign on your own or alongside a friend, and then battle, trade, and chat with other players out in the world. Three starter Temtems are served up at the beginning of the game, each packing unique skills and powers. Then it's all about taking down Dojo Masters. The synergy system adds some depth to the 2v2 battles, whereby Temtems can buff each other up during a fight.
This is all a lot like Pokémon, but since the franchise isn't available on PlayStation platforms, Temtem surely has to be considered the next best thing. Will you be taming and training your own legion of Temtems next week? Get battling in the comments below.

Already pre ordered this, and played it on PC. It's so good. I've enjoyed my time with it. If anything, Pokemon has become a bit stale. There's also a bit more to it gameplay wise, than Pokemon. The only thing I'd say is that while Pokemon now has a ridiculous number of monsters, TemTem doesn't have enough, but I'm sure that will change soon.
This looks pretty good. Not keen on the art, but everything else really interests me.
Looks interesting enough. I may give it a shot.
Also when I read TemTem I immediately thought of the Undertale character that wants funds for college.
Don't know, played it when it released on PC earlier this year but imo it was pretty boring
Generic art style. Boring monster designs. And I really don't like that it's an MMO.
I welcome a proper Pokemon competitor, but this ain't it.
Interested in this if the game has single player story like jrpg, but I heard the game is online only and mmo like?
I just wish it wasn't an online mmo - maybe ill try out nexomon at some point instead.
I’m sure Gamefreak will be taking notes soon. Like have the mmo part in the wild areas so you can walk up to people and request a battle. Maybe have friends in real time tag along on adventures like the tv series
I’ll check this one out for sure when it drops.
this is the kind of game everyone wants pokemon to evolve into someday and they made it. good for them. i'm in.
It can't be worse than the last Pokemon game.
But Kindred Fates looks like the ultimate creature collecting game!
@Ralizah original ni no kuni? Had a lot more complexity (and difficulty!) Than the sequel, and actually, is currently on sale for about £9, which is a steal!
@J2theEzzo Funny enough, I'm actually playing that for the first time. 16 hours in or so.
It's... interesting, but the combat (so far, at least) feels kind of broken, and it combines the worst aspects of turn-based and real-time systems. The creature designs are hugely uninspired, too.
It's a pity, because, presentation-wise, the game, despite its age, is eons beyond anything Pokemon has ever attempted.
Digimon Cyber Sleuth is probably the best monster-collecting game on PS4 right now. Next year, it'll be the HD port of Shin Megami Tensei III.
@Ralizah hmm, shin megami is one I've had an eye on for a while. The ps3 iteration let you 'capture' Dante from dmc, no?
While it took a while to get used to, I don't mind the weird, half turn-based, half real time approach, though it feels a bit less polished, after playing a game like ff7 remake!
@J2theEzzo Well, Dante can join you as an ally in Nocturne, which was a PS2 game.
FF7R definitely does the action/menu system hybrid far better than NnK.
In NnK, the biggest problems so far:
It's honestly one of the worst battle systems I've ever seen in a JRPG.
@Ralizah haha, point(s) taken!
I would have to agree with you on those, and especially about how magic is constantly an issue. It's funny to think, despite the outer aspect of a child's fantasy set-up, it'd be a bloody hard game for most kids to get through, I imagine.
The only way I've managed to deal with the problems, is to grind like crazy!
@J2theEzzo Yeah, I can't imagine a child trying to play this, given how stressful battles are. It's a shame, really, because the presentation and music are top notch, and I like most of the characters as well (Drippy is a bit annoying, but that was clearly intentional, so it's hard to fault the game for that). Gotta love the Disney-esque emotional torture porn as well, what with the dead mother and everything.
I noticed you slammed the second game. What issues in particular did you happen to have with it? Because a game with the same charm but different gameplay honestly sounds great.
Unintentionally, I'm afraid, as I've actually barely played it beyond a few minutes at a friend's, but I felt it was a shame they dropped the creature catching aspect and simplified combat, when, admittedly, it wasn't perfect, but I had hoped they would tweak it, rather than abandon it completely, that's all!
@LiamCroft I really want this to succeed, but no longer interested once I learned it was an online MMO.
Also this should be free to play yes?
