The act of celebrating the past 12 months of gaming releases once again fell to Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards, this time around without a live audience as the COVID-19 pandemic forces industry folk to stay at home. An unfortunate outcome, but it didn't put too much of a dampener on the party as some of the best PlayStation titles of 2020 scooped up awards alongside new game reveals. For some parts of the world though, the show took place in the early hours of the morning and so we don't blame you if you chose sleep over the soothing tones of Geoff Keighley's voice. As such, you may be wondering what was actually announced at The Game Awards 2020. What were the big reveals? Were there any surprises? Sod all to be excited about.
Sorry I'm being a Scrooge but this was such a letdown. I wasn't even expecting much and I got let down!
Nothing of note was announced. No surprises, nothing interested me at all. My own fault for having hope of Silent Hill being announced.
Bit of a weak show in terms of Playstation-centric announcements but Returnal is looking good and I'm interested in playing Disco Elysium, assuming its a good port 👍
Crimson Desert really peaked my interest.
Can't say I got much out of that. Very disappointed.
They could've just put out a 1/2 pg press release with the winners. No reason for this at all. None. Nothing interesting announced for me at all.
No God of war or Ratchet and clank or MGS remake...My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
All in all pretty lame, nothing major announced and TLOU 2 didn't deserve GOTY, it's a pretty boring overly long game, not terrible but not GOTY
So glad I skipped the show! More dull news. Woo.
@L3GTRIGA
10/10 reference and I agree, couldn’t have been a better show to miss lol
Why isn’t anybody mentioning Nier? What is wrong with you? 😔
Not even an article?
@fafonio nier was shown in the pre show
Kinda funny though the amount of xbox winners..LOL
Kinda feels good to own a PlayStation and seeing 3 exclusives up for game of the year
I should stop listening to all these rumours that have been all over Youtube and various other media outlets for the past few months!!!
Wheres the Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill Playstation exclusives reveals? Where's this God Of War Ragnarok demo?
Dissapointed with what was revealed at the show, New Mass Effect........... The last 2 games sucked ass.........why would a new one be any different?
After reading these comments I’m glad I forgot about the show.
A lot of brilliant stuff coming to Xbox but not a great night for Playstation. Apart from Disco Elysium, jump on that everyone!
For us Housemarque fans, you already know Returnal is day one!! Hopefully the masses come along for the ride and finally recognize the greatness that is Housemarque. Dream scenario.
Game comes out, is critically acclaimed and sells well(something that hasn't been kind to them unfortunately despite being having high rated games). Sony buys them(or at least give them another AAA budget).
That Dead Space-looking game might be cool.
Disco Elysium coming to all of the consoles is nice.
Monster Hunter Rise still looks fantastic.
Otherwise... eh.
@nessisonett Still better than Nintendo's presence, lol.
Tons of exclusives coming next year to that system, but you'd never know it.
@Ralizah Nintendo seem to have abandoned the traditional media cycle. I think we’ll probably see more of the shadow drops they’ve done this year.
The only thing that I'm excited about is returnal and maybe that evil west game, the show is meh this year 😕
I quite enjoyed the show. Of course my wife and mother in law thought it was weird that there exists a “games award show” but they are far from the hobby. Seeing the orchestra perform the game themes and Eddie Vedder’s performance really made it memorable for me. And it’s cool to see games elevated as something to award like music and film. I fast forwarded through a lot but I still was glad I watched.
Pretty much nothing new. Glad I watched snippets every 30 min or so
Alright announcements. I'm glad I didn't watch it.
@Cheems https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/piqued
Just wanted a release date for Ratchet. Was disapointed.
(Ok a small part of me bought into the hype and hoped for Metal Gear but i'd assume that Sony would probably want to announce that themselves anyway)
Highly.underwhelming presentation.
So can anyone explain what the whole we want gamer sperm thing was about? Like lol no gamers are not better people
This was a good time, glad I tuned in.
I hope Keighley was paid a LOT to wear those blue high top sneakers with a suit. What a cad.
The Nier Replicant trailer was the big thing of the whole show.
Surprised at no sign of Ratchet & Clank but with Returnal coming in March, I wonder if Ratchet & Clank is April-June.
I got more out of the Disney+ announcements than the Game Awards. I'm disappointed these Silent Hill/MGS remake rumours didn't come to fruition and I think I just won't listen to hype again regarding those.
Happy to see Returnal coming in March, though I felt Housemarque trolling the PT/Silent Hills crowd with the start and end to their trailer haha. The game looks great, it is looking more like a third person version of the games they've done before. Looking forward to it.
It Takes Two looks like a fantastic game to play with the wife. Will most definitely be getting that.
I also like the art style of Evil West, but you can’t really tell anything from a trailer.
Season might be cool too, if the story is strong, if it’s more like Rime I’m less interested.
Swedish Chef? From Muppets? Haha Cool! Will check out the rest and the new ME/DA trailers later.
If I owned a ps5 Returnal would probably be of interest & similarly nice for rpg fans on D.E. Unfortunately the most interesting announcement for me was the Ghosts'n' Goblins remake/arcade App but gutted & bizarre Capcom have chosen to make it Switch exclusive!
Given the likes of the Capcom Arcade collections on ps2, Maximo Quest for Glory/Army of Zin (also ps2),& Ultimate G'n'G on psp a Mega Man style compilation plus this new remake would be entirely doable! Poor show Capcom.
Glad I went to bed, I'm excited for Perfect Dark though
@DonJorginho I'll second you on that, what a load of MEH!
BEST SHOW OF THE YEAR...goes to SONY's Show when they revealed the PS5 and the PlayStation Exclusives this year This one sounds boring as always It just looks to American to me. No offence to the USA I should like it because it's about gaming but I don't like it. Oh well.
Perfect Dark was the only decent thing. Pretty boring show overall.
no R&C release date is a bit of a weird one.
Looks like I didn't miss much after the first two hours. Disappointing but again a prime example why I don't listen to these people who pretend they have such great connections in the industry. 'Believe me, (insert company name) will have some great announcements of games we haven't heard about yet...'
I see a lot of incredibly thirsty advertising for Black Desert which kinda puts me off the franchise. It seems like people think it's good actually?
Crimson Desert, Nier, Left4Dead and maybe one or two others were looking good. The rest of it was just utter dreck.
Did anyone else notice that all of the nominees for most anticipated game were single player story driven games? Every single one.
So it's sad that all we're getting is indies, pc ports, godawful multiplayer and live service battle royale garbage.
@Fath you picked my interest.
What about that one that game about the girl hitch hiking?? Forgot what it was called but it seemed really cool!
@theheadofabroom It's a very grindy Korean style MMO with a low effort story... but the combat is extremely sparkly and 'fun'.
Plus with the character creator you can make some absolute monsters!
@Mintie doesn't sound like my cup of tea from that description, but I can see why others would like it.
The advertising just reminded me of low effort browser games where they try and make the visuals racy to bring in horny teens, but there's no underlying game. Glad to hear this isn't that.
I'm mostly interested for these games from TGA 2020.
