Here we are, at the end of another year with The Game Awards to mark the past 12 months of gaming through awards for the best of the best and a look to the future of the industry. Little was known about the digital ceremony as leaks were nowhere to be seen as we entered proceedings, allowing host Geoff Keighley to put on a show that both delighted and surprised. The all-important Game of the Year award went to The Last of Us: Part II, and it was also a good night for Sony as a whole. First-party games such as Ghost of Tsushima also scooped up a couple of prizes.
As for gaming announcements, confirmed appearances from Dragon Age 4, Fall Guys, and It Takes Two lived up to those promises. It was new game reveals that really brought the digital house down though with announcements for Season, The Callisto Protocol, and the new Mass Effect. In traditional Push Square fashion though, we want to know what you thought of the show. Was it the best ceremony Geoff Keighley has put on yet? Or did you come away disappointed? What was your favourite reveal? Place your vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below.

A director that has lost most of his workers and attacks fans doesn’t deserve an award.
That aside there were a few good announcements. That made it worth watching. Hades, 13 Sentinels, and Half-Life Alyx were robbed for narrative, GOTY, and best direction.
It was Ok. It needed that one big announcement and CG trailers for BioVapourWare just doesn’t cut it.
Anyone who didn't expect The Last of Us to win everything it was nominated for was asking to be mad.
Any other year I would have called the show poor. But this year, with all the challenges, it was ok.
Needed a couple of big announcements.
Orchestra was wonderful, not enough though
Also the reveals this year were some of the worst imo.
@Orpheus79V I count three good reveals. You?
Glad I can stick to the announcements and stop caring about the awards from now on. They don't really mean anything to me after tonight.
Happy at The Last of Us Part 2 winning well deserved awards. Also dead happy No Man's Sky and MK11 won awards as both are two games i play constantly and love.
As for reveals yeah pretty bland outside of the Smash reveal, Mass Effect "4" and Project Dark. I had a good time though as i was watching it with Yongyea's stream and he was a good time.
@WallyWest Ok actually Perfect Dark was a great reveal. I forgot about that because it feels like years ago.
Mind numbingly boring only a few half decent announcements. So many adverts it was insane. LOU2 was the goat love it or hate it.
@nessisonett Remember when you said I should be banned because I wasn’t adding anything to the discussion? You aren’t adding anything to the discussion either, hypocrite.
Yet another playstation game dominates the awards and takes the top prize, surprised?.......No
Fully Deserved!
@Akurusu Sephiroth for Smash and Perfect Dark are the only ones I remember. Everything else seemed so bland, and/or was just a CGI teaser (Perfect Dark even falls into that so idk if I would count it). Oh, and I was briefly excited for Evil Dead, but it just looks like a Left 4 Dead clone, and we already got one of those tonight.
Can’t vote as I just popped it on in my break to catch the Mass Effect (I’m years away) trailer and the final award. Pretty sure that was Liara in the teaser so very curious where they will go with it. Now to look up the Dragon Age bit and anything else I missed.
Love or hate Abby you can't deny Laura Bailey didn't put in an incredible performance, she fully deserved that award as did all the others on that list, any one of them was worthy of that award.
@Orpheus79V Besides Evil Dead (I was excited for Back 4 Blood), those are the exact same games I was excited for. After those three the awards fell short.
@Akurusu Bit salty there mate lol. Except we all have diffrent opinions. I would of chose Hades or TLOU2.
I have no problem with the winners I just had a problem with all the junk that was in between, I do love that a direct sequel to ME3 is being made!
was missing
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
ELDEEEEN RING
YOU CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE
Awards where deserved in my opinion as for the show....absolute garbage
Atrocious, I'm not one to complain about progressive stuff normally but the amount of stuff that was force fed to us was insane, I don't care about a black trans band or latinx gaming (which is a stupid name btw) I care about games!
The announcements were woeful, the biggest ones were two Bioware games and Bioware haven't been good since Mass Effect 2.
Sony dropped the ball too, telling us to tune in only to show 30 seconds of their worst launch window exclusive in Returnal.
Best part of the whole show was seeing that Disco Elysium was coming to PS5 and that we are finally getting a spiritual successor to Dead Space.
The rest was tragic seeing as Geoff kept saying it was a big announcement year, my bum cheeks it was Geoff!
Elden Ring is dead and Silent Hill/MGS projects never existed.
Decent but FAR too long.
@Akurusu Back 4 Blood could be cool, since it's the L4D devs and basically L4D3.
To be fair I just looked back through and there were a few decent announcements.
Edit missed a few
On the flip side Amazing how far BioWare has fallen that a new mass effect announcement is hardly mentioned, nor dragon age. Sad times
@Max2574 There’s no salt here, lol. Naughty Dog’s actions this year made me lose any respect I had for them, then the director (won’t say his name) made that childish tweet.
@nessisonett Yeah nice surprise and good on MS for bringing it back.
@WallyWest She did especially after all the abuse she received from the twitter phsycho department. It was an incredible performance.
Ok, while I don't agree with some of the awards, I'm just gonna say that the accessability and sound(or was it game design? Forgot, either way it's true for me) design were well deserved for last of us part 2. If it were up to me, it would be Doom eternal followed by animal crossing as game of the year, unfortunately cyberpunk didn't get to shine past a buggy launch, that probably would have stolen the show.
@Akurusu You could apply that to any dev at present just look at the CDPR fiasco.
@Akurusu what actions? making game of the year from the two biggest awards shows?
Terrible that... move on
I was hoping The Last of us won Game of the Year. especially after the hate they got online.
@Max2574 I’m not talking about other devs, I’m talking about Naughty Dog.
@Max2574 She made me love Abby as a character, disgusting the way she was treated so this is a good screw you to them. She was so humble as well with it tonight.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the game you like wins or loses an award. I don't know why people care.
@themightyant The director calling people haters (even though some had valid criticisms about the game), crunch culture, DMCA, hypocritical censorship policies.
I liked it overall, but it was too long. I was running out of enthusiasm by the end and about three quarters in the show seemed to be running out of steam.
Anyone who thinks this was a truly bad show though needs to watch some of the older game awards, now THEY were bad
Unfortunately it finished by nightmarish expectations. Tlou2 is Goty... yes 2020 is hell.
@Akurusu true some people have valid criticisms of the game in their eyes. But the amount of hatred, death threats and other BS was sent their way from man-babies was woeful. I thought pretty restrained response all in all
@Akurusu Well this is "Best game of the year". Not "Best game studio of the year"! I understand that these sorts of things could and should be taken into consideration. But the award was given based on the game itself and The Last of Us 2 is an amazing game!
Its was aight.what happened to elden ring.silent hill and metal gear remake.was this like biggie smalls once say it was all a dream.word up son
@Akurusu If someone was abusing you wouldn't you have a dig back they are only human. Crunch is in every studio at present. Are you calling out CDPR for also hiding the game completely and misleading gamers or does it just apply to Naughty dogg. Also death threats is unacceptable no wonder they got pissed on twitter.
@playstation1995 No Elden Ring i was gutted lol.
Really, really boring this year. Sephiroth in Smash and the charming It Takes Two were the only things that caught my eye.
I kept track of the show on Twitter and it was pretty meh.
Sephiroth being in Smash was really the only bright spot of the show. Back4Blood looked neat, seeing Liara again was nice.
@Max2574 You’re trying to cover up for them by using CDPR to change the subject. what they’re doing isn’t okay either & if you really want to know, I’m not a fan of theirs. The Witcher 3 was the worst RPG I’ve played & I was never excited for Cyberpunk. Also every studio does not use crunch. Hades & Animal Crossing New Horizons both had measures taken to avoid crunch hours. They’re done. Back on topic.
He is co-president of a big game company & should carry himself as such. You don’t take digs at your fans who didn’t like your game & if you’re going to address a specific group of people you do it in a professional manner. Calling people haters isn’t the way to do it.
TloU 2 is good but not more than Ghost of Tsushima
@Akurusu I'm sure Naughty Dog are gutted that toxic push square user Akurusu doesn't respect them anymore.
@NDL08 Well of course they’re not. They’re a company. They don’t care who does and doesn’t respect them as long as they get paid.
@Akurusu Stating facts that many devs are not perfect. Anyway its about games and I thought Hades should of won but still happy one of the games I enjoyed won also.
Back4Blood stole the show for me. Really excited for that. It takes two also looks really cool and it would be a great game for me and my wife. Perfect dark was also awesome. That game was one of my favorites growing up
Seems like it sucked. Glad I didn't waste my time watching.
@Akurusu you're damn right they don't, why would they care about someone as hateful as you?
If you focus more on things you like you'll enjoy life a lot more.
I didn't like the last Jedi but guess what I didn't do? Flood internet forums months after release telling the world how much I hated it nor did I constantly try to tell those who did like it how wrong they were.
@JoeyTS Amazing and The Last of Us II don’t belong in the same sentence if you ask me.
@Akurusu The last of us 2 was amazing. There you go just for you dude lol
@Akurusu I didn't ask you though!
@NDL08 Not agreeing with a GOTY choice doesn’t make someone hateful. I’m enjoying life a lot, just didn’t enjoy The Last of Us Part II a lot. Actually, not at all.
@JoeyTS Well I said what I said.
@Akurusu And I said what I said! The Last of Us 2 is an amazing game and it getting the GOTY Award indicates that a lot of people agree with that statement!
@Max2574. I know right.i was waiting for the trailer nothing.word up son
@Akurusu believe me I know you didn't enjoy TLOU2. I gathered that from the first 30 TLOU2 topics that you posted in.
And yes you most certainly are hateful, you take it far beyond not liking a game. I constantly see you getting warned about your behavior on this site always in TLOU2 topics but you don't stop.
I feel like we got a whole lot of nothing. We sure got a lot of CG trailers of games we won't hear back from for a couple of years. The positives: Returnal is looking very good, Disco Elysium coming to consoles. The WTF: Scarlet Nexus? Really Bandai-Namco? You only had to do one thing. Well, back to the dreg heap my hollows.
Are people really that hyped for Elden Ring after the dumpster fire that was Sekiro?
Personally i think they need to shave a whole hour off of the show.
@JoeyTS It’s not an amazing game to me. Also the award for Game of the Year is chosen by journalists. Users can vote too (there are thousands), but their votes don’t really count for much when about 80 (correct me if I’m wrong) journalists are the ones who really decide. I’d say the players voice better represents what the people think
@Akurusu The Last of Us 2 won GOTY at the Golden Joystick Awards which is purely based on popular vote. So anyways. The Last of Us 2 is an amazing game and it getting the GOTY Award indicates that a lot of people agree with this statement!
? What game award? I been playing cyperpunk 2077. Some I missed all the drama. Too bad oh well! Go back to dancing
@playstation1995 I would imagine 2022 release now
@NDL08 If you don’t like what I have to say the ignore button is right there. I got warned for some things, all of which I have since taken special care not to do while also expressing my opinion.
Bit disappointed that The Last of Us just swept the awards like it's nobodies business (although some of the games you'd think would be some of it's biggest competition, Hades and Half-Life, weren't even nominated for the big award (though Doom Eternal was) so *shrugs * not entirely sure what the thinking was there), and that there weren't as many 'great' announcements as I was hoping for (the lack of Eldin Ring was especially disappointing) but there were still some nice surprises. Seeing the announcement for a new Perfect Dark game 15 years after the last one was great to see, as was the announcement for a new Mass Effect game (Bioware's recent performance notwithstanding) and while it was a weird place to announce them, the many new Star Wars and Marvel shows and films that were announced was pretty exciting.
Overall, I'd say it was pretty good, but would've been nice to see 1 or 2 more big announcements (or just Eldin Ring).
@JoeyTS - "and it getting the GOTY Award indicates that a lot of people agree with that statement!"
Eh, did it really have much competition though? I mean, out of the games that were actually nominated, what games were really GOTY worthy outside maybe Ghost of Tshushima and FFVII Remake? Had Cyberpunk been nominated (Or Hades/Half-Life), it might've had a chance, purely off hype alone, but as it stands, the only game that might've had a chance of winning was maybe Ghost of Tsushima, and even that's a slim chance.
@TG16_IS_BAE - Given most probably don't see Sekiro as a "dumpster fire" I'd say, yeah, probably.
@FullMetalWesker Ghosts of Tsushima is a massive one though. Same arguably for FF7 Remake. Hades was nominated actually if you didn't know and I had this weird thought that Animal Crossing might have had a chance based on its huge popularity. I mean regardless, all of the nominees were awesome games and people have been talking highly about all of them so I would say that the competition was actually quite tough this year!
@JoeyTS Quit spamming that. & regardless of where it wins, The Last of Us Part II isn’t a good game to me for many reasons. I’m not sure about a lot of people because the game was very divisive.
@Akurusu your last warning was like... 2 days ago.
@Akurusu I'm not spamming, I'm reinforcing a point to which you had attempted to refute by delegitimizing the Game Awards GOTY Award. I had then provided a counter to that by stating the success of the game at The Golden Joystick which is purely popular vote based leading to the reaffirmation of my statement. It's fine if you don't like the game, we all have opinions. Quite honestly, I wasn't planning on arguing over the game itself. You had originally stated that the game shouldn't have won based on controversy with the developers and I said that the award was based purely on the game itself. That's all I'm implying. Dislike it all you want but it was a deserved win for this title
I dont care what geoff Keighley likes. Ill play only what i like
@JoeyTS death stranding was better than last of us 2. I dont care about geoff or druckman opinions
@Kanji-Tatsumi its a mediocre irrelevant award show that does not deserve to exist
@jess3a3 Well Death Stranding came out in 2019 so it wasn't going to be nominated this time but maybe there would have been some clash had the game released in 2020!
@NDL08 Why do my warnings matter all of a sudden? I must be living in your head if you’re going through the trouble of looking at comments I made months ago, which have nothing to do with the discussion.
@Akurusu it's pretty hard not to remember your name when you appear in EVERY single TLOU2 topic starting arguments and trying to convince everyone who likes it how wrong they are.
I've just said your last warning was earlier this week, how is that months ago?
@JoeyTS Oh one year TGA matters and the next year it doesn’t. Let’s not talk about the legitimacy of the game awards. The only time it matters is if someone’s preferred game wins. Let me talk about the years for a second. Back in 2017 when Breath of the Wild won game of the year all you saw some people say was
“it’s just a popularity contest”
“The awards don’t matter”
“The awards were paid off”
Fast forward to next year when God of War wins you then see that same crowd say,
“Truly deserving”
“The only GOTY ceremony/award that matters”
When previously, people were whining about Red Dead Redemption II leading the categories and sweeping a lot of awards & calling it paid until GoW won at the end of the night. It happened with death stranding the following year.
The reasons I don’t think it should’ve won outside of the studio have to do with the game itself, but I didn’t bother stating those reasons because I’m going to be called a bigot, homophobe, racist, etc. the moment I say something critical about the game. Clearly you do have a problem because I said The Last of Us Part II & amazing don’t belong in the same sentence and said “I said what I said” & you wanted to continue to argue when you should’ve just left it alone.
@NDL08 Before that it was months ago & my warnings have nothing to do with the discussion.
@Akurusu it does when you dispute the fact that you come across as incredibly hateful on this site. Why else would you be warned?
@Akurusu You're simply filtering to the negative comments for 2017 and only filtering the positive comments for 2018 to attempt to fit an agenda! There were also many extremely happy that Breath of the Wild won in 2017 and there were many that were unhappy that God of War beat Red Dead 2! Look at the whole picture!
People can't always agree on one thing but that doesn't change the legitimacy of the awards themselves. It's not the awards not mattering one year and then mattering the next, it's simply the result of your favorite game winning or not. My favorite game not winning doesn't mean the awards don't matter! I'm bummed but I still respect the decision. Clearly, as I see here, I'd argue that you are hypocritical to call us people who only thinks it matters when our favorite game wins and thinks it doesn't matter when it does not win. Look at what you're doing! Arguing that TLOU 2 shouldn't have won through the means of the developers, and by stating that this doesn't accurately represent the actual award because it was mainly decided by journalists! So in short, saying this award doesn't matter because it doesn't represent what the people actually picked when in all actuality this is false!
And I didn't really want to continue this. I simply said a factual statement to which you're trying so desperately to refute! It did win GOTY and a lot of people liked the game! This is factual! You can have your opinion but it doesn't make The Last of Us 2 unworthy of the title!
@NDL08 I have just put him on ignore as he seems hateful for no reason. Also I have completely diffrent opinions to him so to try and debate is pointless. Suggest you also block him mate before it becomes toxic.
@Orpheus79V Peoole get bent out of shape over many things. For me, it's really whatever. It's all based on opinions, popular or not. I only watched for the game reveals, which were lacking.
@Akurusu Hilarious coming from you of all people. You're not fooling anyone.
I can’t see how anyone could rate this show any better than “poor”. Keighley’s shoes alone were a fiasco, and nothing of note was announced except Perfect Dark.
PushSquare doesnt allow my short comment so there it is:
Okay
Scrolling through the comment I dont see people mention the new Dead Space game? Forgot the name.
That was cool.
Went to bed after that haha
And no, Oscar's, trophy thingies never meant anything. It's all BS collective back patting from the professionals. For gaming is no different than cinema etc
Edit
I cant even remember who 'won' last year and it's not worth the hassle to google it haha
@TG16_IS_BAE I didn’t like it much at first, but it grew on me after a second try a year later. I’d love it if they made more good Soulsborne games instead, though.
@DonJorginho imagine saying returnal looks horrible lmao
@Akurusu what tweet?
@djlard I love ND,tlou or Druckmann articles because they are the only ones who bring people like you out the woodworks every time to tell everyone how much you hate them while missing the irony that they live rent free in your head lmao.
@jess3a3 cool I’m sure they don’t care about your opinion either
@Akurusu the game was only divisive if you hung out in right wing chud circles lol. The sales, the reviews and the wins both from critics and gamers show that the game def isn’t divisive
New Perfect Dark. 👏 👏 👏
That is all.
The Perfect Dark reveal alone made it almost worthwhile
Kinda like this format more than past years. Show flows better without crowd and having to go up on stage and stuff lol. The Last of Us II brought it home with game of the year, congrats to them. I expected them to win that. Personally Ghost of Tsushima is my game of the year(followed by Hades). I can't speak on The Last of Us II as I still haven't played it but I will soon hopefully. Ghost took home a couple with Player's Voice and Best Art Direction so you know i'm happy for Sucker Punch.
As far as trailers go. I'm of course hyped for Returnal as i'm a huge Housmarque fan. They've never let me down.
NieR Replicant ver.1.122474487139… looked great. Cant' wait to revisit that with the new changes.
And finally Perfect Dark gets announced. I can't wait to see what The Initiative with all that talent comes up with. Maybe that will drive me to go out and actually buy an Xbox Series X(last xbox I had was Xbox 360).
@dark_knightmare2 Except it didn't win the Player's Voice award, and a lot of people who don't care about politics at all, did not like this game. So yes, this game is divisive.
@dark_knightmare2 That's not a very smart way of showing it's divisive cause it is divisive from the user reviews and not to mention the outrage from the leaks.
Someone in here, I won’t name any names 😉, said that The Last Jedi and The Last Of Us Part II shouldn’t be used in the same sentence because the former is amazing and the latter is not.
If that doesn’t tell you all that you need to know about this person when reading their comments, then I’m shocked 😂 let the troll do their thing and just stop responding.
@dark_knightmare2 I like ND, Uncharted and TLOU1. Only TLOU2 is pain in the butt...
Pretty good show, nice reveals too. Geoff Keighley deserves all the praise for making it what it is. Naughty Dog deserved everything they got awarded to them for tLoU. Insanely good game.
Tbh, yea. It met my expectations as a corporate award show.
They needed to trim that show down by half. Way too much fluff.
@Akurusu
What statement from Druckmann are you referring to? The only one I've seen where he mentioned hate was regarding people who were threatening his colleagues and clearly crossing boundaries, he was right to address this
@Nepp67 yeah it’s so divisive yet it’s won a couple user voted goty awards already
Waaaay better paced than previous iterations
@Markos yet it won the golden joystick ultimate goty which is only voted by gamers as well as a couple of other user voted goty awards and the only reason it didn’t win tga user goty was because of right wing chuds after failing to hack the results got their pathetic warriors to mass vote for ghosts.
This was so rigged.
The Game Awards is like The Oscars. A bunch of morons deciding who is better in their tendencious point of view.
Discussing/fighting each other because of who won or not, in my humble opinion, is non sense.
Where the hell is Elden Ring!!??
I never watched TGA before but I liked it last night, good show.
Didn't watch live. Just skipped through the stream to get to the good bits. Of which there was none. Couldn't care less about the awards part.
LOL at the Game of the Year. I left here about 9pm my time and watch the rest elsewhere glad TLOU Part 2 won. Should change players voice to "whiners Voice"
It was just okay. Ultimately I ended up feeling disappointed at the end of it, I'll never stay up till 3am UK time to watch it in the future. Disappointed Metal Gear Solid Remake or Silent Hills wasn't there based on the rumours. I think the biggest thing for me was the fact that Yakuza 3 - 6 is coming to Xbox.
@SimonB
Too much salt is not good for u
@captainaverage lower your expectations for lou2 and prepare for pain
There is so much grim dark shooters stuff.
It was boring.
@dark_knightmare2 why was lou2 great? Uncharted 2 and 4 much better. Lou2 had all hateable characters and bad story. Hype fest disappointed
@dark_knightmare2 It’s almost embarrassing because the creator himself said the game was going to be very divisive. People disliked the game for reasons that had nothing to do with politics. I fail to understand why so many ND fans don’t see that.
@NDL08 I come off as hateful because of one game & because I call it how I see it. Gotta love how you and everyone else here focuses on the Naughty Dog comments instead of seeing what else I offered to the discussions. Either way I’m still getting 6-8 hours of sleep.
@JoeyTS Actually, I know what you’re saying but I also have a lot of examples of people saying the GOTY award matters to fit their agenda. I guarantee you if any other game besides TLOU won you’d see that energy here again. You’re not understanding that for some people the awards are only legit to them when their favorite game wins. The argument of whether TGA matters or not fluctuates each year. I can almost guarantee you if Animal Crossing would have won you’d see claims of Nintendo bias and paid awards. I have so many examples but you won’t understand so I won’t bother.
You’re still missing the point of you arguing over the game with me. I said what I said about the game and you wanted to keep going instead of just dealing with the fact that I don’t think it was worthy. Just because a poorly written game by a mediocre studio wins an award doesn’t mean everyone agrees with it. It was undeserving for so many reasons.
@Mittsu It was a deleted tweet a few days ago where he said something along the lines of “another vote means less caps lock for haters”. Or something like that. You’ll see that most people who didn’t like the game for reasons that have nothing to do with politics are labeled haters & a lot of people flamed him for that.
@Akurusu
Didn't hear about that but even based on your own description of what happened you are overreacting imo
Perfect Dark, Spiritual successor to dead space an d left 4 dead and a date for returnal. Good.
It absolutely met my expectations, but far far more for Xbox then PlayStation, overall I did’t see anything worth it’s announcement from Sony in the show.. and the awards were way too biased, yeah TLOU2 obviously won game of the year, which it didn’t deserve, but it no way deserved ‘some’ of its other awards next to that competition... even Geoff didn’t really seem to care about the awards and only cared about all the new game announcements! But overall Nintendo and Microsoft brought it, Sony made a whimper..
@BowTiesAreCool Yes this, ignoring the awards everyone watches to see the new games, and their were a lot! He seemed very grateful at the end for pulling it all off, I take my hat off to Geoff for making a decent show in the current climate. Even getting Keanu to livestream! And Nolan!
@dark_knightmare2 You’ve either never played the game, or misunderstood it, and certainly never laid any attention to what Druckman has said about it..
@JJ2 Is that the one they are in the prison cell with a robot outside and some creature in the cell, where he had what looked like a fluorescent green sausage wrapped around the back of his neck?
These things should just be treated a award shows and nothing more because the hype was certainly not worth it 🤧
@Gaming365247
And too much idiocy is too much for you too
It was OK! Decent enough, but I don't think it actually focuses on the awards enough. It has a bit of an identity crisis where it wants to be the Oscars and the Superbowl all in one, and it doesn't quite mesh. Felt a bit of a shame to have so many awards that were just rushed through without giving the devs chance to talk.
The only problem with Push Square getting bigger is that they have brought most of the negativity of the N4G crowd here. Some real negativity and nonsense going on in this comment section.
@Akurusu You're still living in this delusion. I'm seeing that energy now, from you! There will always be winners and losers no matter who gets picked. Doesn't change the legitimacy of the awards. And you see that energy regardless! I went on The Game Award's Twitter where they announced the GOTY last night and the first comment I see below it shows a picture of a guy handing another guy money with the picture being labeled Naughty Dog and The Game Awards. Below it, I see both positive and negative comments. There isn't a universal agreement. Every time a game wins, there will always be a disagreement. Every single year. Of course, on a Playstation site, you'd see a bit more negativity if Animal Crossing won, but that doesn't mean the TGAs don't matter. They absolutely can and do matter! Of course there will be sore losers (like yourself seemingly), but that's just how life works for anything!
And listen, I don't care about your opinion on this game. I never even planned to argue with you over it. I argued over your original comment regarding the legitimacy of the game winning the award based on the developers themselves. I just happened to point out that it won GOTY and that many people thought the game to be amazing! If you "said what you said", you would have clearly accepted the fact that you're in a minority when you make these comments on a PlayStation News Site and stop attempting to try to refute FACTUAL STATEMENTS!
@doctommaso That’s awesome. Hopefully a sequel to Bloodborne.
@JoeyTS @Akurusu Man why don’t you two get a room?
Was expecting something really big from one of the next gen consoles. You know water cooler conversation big! Nothing that big happened. Still enjoyable show.
@dark_knightmare2 It looks like it could be fun, but it will probably be a similar experience to being a magic user in Dark Souls, where you just kite mobs until they are dead. Graphically, it looks like plastic.
The FIX was in as expected ! Sony payoff the right people to get the result they wanted so no surprises there. No big trailers or announcements so over all it was MEH !
@JoeyTS You still aren’t getting it so I don’t even know why you’re arguing at this point. Bottom line is Game Awards don’t matter to everyone for one reason or another.
Hey if you didn’t care about what I said you would’ve stopped after I said what I said, you can’t let go of someone not liking that flavorless crap that they have the nerve to call a game. Yet here you are. Um... what factual statement? The Last of Us Part II isn’t a good game or that TGA don’t matter to everyone? Eh, I don’t care anymore.
@TG16_IS_BAE Lol no thanks.
@Mittsu If you want to see what happened go on Twitter & see what the people said before you say I’m overreacting.
@Akurusu Hahhahaahahah : )
I found it rather poor. The nominations and wins section was fine. But the "big reveals" were rather dull.
@dark_knightmare2 dude I get defending the game if you like it, but saying it isn't divisive is pure BS and makes you look like an idiot.
For Christ's sake, even ND themselves acknowledged that before release!
There's a difference between being ignorant and being willfully misleading, and I'm still on the fence on whether it's stupidity or malevolence, but I'd vouch for the former seeing how quickly you jump to dangerous conclusions about the political affiliations of people who may or may not like the game.
@Akurusu I'm aware that people don't agree and as I said, I really do not care. I do care about when you claim that they shouldn't win based on the developer's actions along with trying to delegitimize the award which is clear hypocrisy based on what you're implying. The factual statement is it won GOTY and many thought it was amazing. If people like the game or not is subjective, but objectively, the game won the award and many loved it. To say I'm the one who continued to have this discussion is just ridiculous. You said what you said, then I said what I said. You said the game is not amazing, I said the game is amazing. I didn't plan to argue as to who is right, for I knew that people had different views on this game. I didn't try to convince you as to why I thought it was amazing, I just simply said it was in my opinion amazing just like you said in your opinion that it wasn't amazing. We could have left it at that, but you instead tried to argue saying the "it's not accurate to what people actually think because it's chosen by journalists" argument. Nothing to do with the quality of the game itself, but just you trying to look for ways to delegitimize the award.
Like I said, if you don't like the game, that's what you think. I'm not trying to convince you to thinking the game is amazing. I'm just pointing out that this was a legitimate win and that previous years and the voting process don't affect its legitimacy.
It’s been a tough year for everyone. I respect that Geoff saw it through and did his best to keep the show going.
I wish there was more of a build up to delivering the awards. It seemed like they read the names very fast and announced the winner to get it over with.
I would have been happy with a clean 90 minute show. It felt long in the tooth. It was also hampered happening at the same time as major Disney announcements and Cyber Punk launch day.
go watch gamespot review of cyberpunk and ign review of alien isolation or death stranding , that'll answer your question , the awards will never meet your expectations cause they're decided by game journalists who don't even finish games or know how to use the crafting interface. they don't represent the gamers and they never will. we chose ghost of tsushima and it has 9.2/10 on meta from us while they gave it 84. woke sjw will never represent the gaming community
Lots of salt on this thread for my popcorn.
@TG16_IS_BAE You’d have to think it would be crazy of Sony not to, right? If From weren’t willing to (and I still hope they are), I wonder if Team Ninja or Bluepoint would be able to do it justice?
@dark_knightmare2 Sorry buddy but you are very dense if you can't see it's divisive, especially on Push Square. A game winning goty is not proof of it being undivisive.
@Akurusu Can I still be a fan of the Original TLOU and not be called a bigot for not liking TLOUII? Seems almost impossible.
Agree with you here though, Game Journo's are worse though, they always call for unity in the community while simultaneously trying to cancel any youtuber who dares criticize their reviews.
@Kelrics90 That’s the same question I had. A user on this very topic said I would only have a problem with a game if I was around far-right people. That comment proved a point & it’s also why I won’t list my reasons for disliking the game because they’ll fall on deaf ears.
@Akurusu Not only deaf ears, everyone will just assume you're reasoning.
Two most over used examples:
Abbie's Muscles.
You are anti-trans/lgbtq.
The Anti-LGBT one always gets me laughing. Why was there zero outrage over Left Behind? Oh... Because it told a good story.
I think it was the best show, but it's still too long. Not having live guests helped since Keighley is a mediocre host.
@InsertUsername Yeah, same.
I didn't watch the awards, but read an overview. Nothing to write home about. I was kind of interested in the Evil Dead game, until I read more about it. Shame. I was hoping it would be more like A Fistful Of Boomstick / Regeneration.
I dunno, man...it's complicated.
I respect Geoff for managing to get a pretty solid show together despite everything going on in the world, and it was a better show than last year in spite of the the issues, but I still feel like it's a show that doesn't entirely understand who it's for.
I get that most people are only going to care about the BIG awards like best performance, best direction, goty, etc., but relegating stuff like soundtrack/sound design/art direction/etc. to the unceremonious pre-show kind feels like a slap in the face. THAT'S the stuff that should be celebrated the most, the stuff that makes the medium really WORK and stand out from other mediums.
I also feel like the categories still need some work. Like, why is there a best Esports team award at all? Not that those folks don't deserve recognition, but they're competing for millions of actual dollars, their skills are rewarded with hard cash...yet there's no category for animation or use of mocap...the more granular aspects of development aren't given recognition at all, and that sucks.
Also, as much as I love a good Get Hype moment, too much of the show is built around trailer reveals. You gotta keep your advertisers and investors happy, and that's what most people are really watching for, but the awards themselves too often feel like an afterthought, something to fill time between musical numbers and "World Premieres".
You can't make everyone happy and I do think Geoff walks the line between recognizing the industry and the necessary commercialism fairly well, but I kinda felt like it tipped a bit too far into the latter this year...which is a shame.
I enjoyed the Game Awards enough to leave work early...but in retrospect I should have just waited for the full recording.
