Happy holidays, everyone! We know it probably wasn’t the same as usual, but we sincerely hope you had an enjoyable and, crucially, safe Christmas this year. Of course, with the big day over, it’s now time for you to relax – and also play some games.
Sammy Barker, Editor
I’m just about wrapping up my stay in Night City right now, and looking to my humongous backlog. I think it’s finally time for me to start Final Fantasy VII Remake, which I’ve been looking forward to for months. From there, I just have more games than I could ever find time to play, but I’ll probably end up occupying the rest of my holiday with FIFA 21, NBA 2K21, and Madden NFL 21 – the usual!

I'll be getting downright cosy with Assassin's Creed Valhalla over the Christmas break, but I'm also eyeing up a new PS5-exclusive playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima. The only problem is that I'm not overly keen on playing two open world action games at the same time, so I might break things up with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, which I finally picked up in the January sale after years of temptation. Everyone says it's great, so I'm looking forward to finally giving Falcom's series a proper go. Happy holidays!

Happy holidays! To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what I'll be playing over the Christmas weekend. I've been rather enjoying DIRT 5 again; after its last update, the off-road racer seems much more stable, which is great. I'm tempted to pick a couple of games up in the PS Store sale, too. The likes of Ashen and Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition are piquing my interest right now. Whatever I end up playing, the aim will be to relax as much as possible. Take care of yourselves.

I'm very much done with Cyberpunk 2077 now, so I'll be jumping back into Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. I've missed this game, and I think Eivor missed me too. My PS5 playthrough begins with the male character this time around.

This year's Christmas is strange and far more stressful than it usually is, so I feel the need to just play something easy and familiar. I'm planning to play through the Spyro Reignited Trilogy while consuming my body weight in chocolate and wine!
Have a great weekend everyone, and be sure to stay safe and wrap up warm. Be sure to let us know what you’re playing and what you’re eating this holiday in the comments section below, and we’ll be back next year (!!!) with your regularly scheduled WAYP.

I got Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the PS1 for Christmas, so I'll be playing that and some Christmas Nights on the Saturn amongst quite a few other PS1 and Saturn games
The Spyro collection is brilliant. Easy and fun to play I had a blast with it and I’d buy a sequel in a heartbeat.
I’ve just started AC Valhalla about 3hours in and really enjoying it.
I want to return to LOUS2 but I’m waiting on a PS5 upgrade.
I'll be in Night City. 94 hours into Cyberpunk 2077 and only done 30% of V's story. All on base PS4. Very enjoyably playable.
Got Valhalla for Christmas, not too bad so far but looking forward to when you get to England. Have a good one folks!
GTA - Cayo Perico Heist and throwing snowballs.
RDO - Doing some dailies.
Far Cry 4 PS4 - My second play, first play was on PS3 in 2014.
Got Far Cry 5 off the sale at long last after swerving it for a long time. And as much as I thought, I think I'm enjoying it more than Odyssey. I enjoyed FC4 immensely and platted it with joy. I think I'm a Far Cry guy more than AC. Maybe because I don't have to see the protag running all over town weirdly and climbing everything, or awful horse running animations hitting everyone in town with even more horrendous navigation (no GPS, countless times I've ended up at dead ends in someone's backyard, enemy camp etc). Then, I might jump into the Kings of openworlds a bit: GTAV or RDRII. Or anything else.
Sackboy! Bought it yesterday after getting a £35 psn card.
I was going to wait for a sale but I thought I was only adding 25 quid and was supporting a pretty local UK Dev.
I've been playing a blaster master zero 2 on ps4, I already have it on switch and pc but I bought it on psn discount (only $5). At first I though playing nes-like games on my 55inch tv won't be a good experience, but I only needs a couple of seconds to adjust, I already play and finish the first one on switch, it's a really good metroidvania 2D games and the story is kind of interesting too. It's too bad the first game (and the sequel) didn't have have platinum trophy, I'll buy and finish the first game on ps4 again if the devs add platinum trophy, I don't understand why some devs didn't add it since it's not hard and some people will buy it only to platinum it.
Bought panzer dragoon remake, turok 1, and turok 2 discounted on pc (steam). Refunded panzer remake after I first died and have to start the level again, I don't have time for this bs design, I though the remake add real continue. Playing turok 1, this game is really fun (playing it with controller), I already have this on nintendo 64 way back then but I like playing this on pc more, maybe because it's smooth 60 fps now. The respawning enemies are really really annoying though.
Also playing turok 2, this game seems better everyway compared to turok 1, no respawning enemies in sight, and the graphics plus the music is really good.
My lovely wife got me Cyberpunk 2077 for Christmas. Eight hours in and I absolutely love this game (playing on PS5)! Crashed on me twice already, though. I really hope CDPR gets this sorted out soon.
I'm also helping my daughter through the more challenging parts of Astro's Playroom.
@Dan_ozzzy189 Sackboy's next on my list as well. Looks absolutely adorable. Enjoy!
I’m juggling Dirt 5, Doom Eternal and a fresh FF7 Remake play through. Gunna go easy on the junk food and booze today, the last couple of days are sort of blurry...
Nioh 2.bloodbone goty edition and gta 3.3 of the best games ever made.watching my Pittsburgh Steelers vs the colts.huge game.lets go Steelers.word life.word to your mother.word is bond.wors up son
I really should be cleaning up the platinum for Spider-Man but instead I just started The Wolf Among Us.
Well I bought myself (😢) Ass Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising for Xmas and started them both, as you do and enjoying them immensely. Especially Immortals as I didn't hold out much hope tho I did raise an eyebrow at the same game mechanics in both games - combat controls, scale these heights to reveal the map - etc, but yeah Ubisoft ! But they both play great on the base PS4 so looking forward to carrying on with these
Will also be pottering about on Cyberpunk (loving it, much better after patches!) and Star Wars Squadrons as the family are out and at work woohoo
Have a great weekend guys and Merry Xmas ♥️♥️
Requested a refund for Cyberpunk 2077, then hesitated, realising I can't leave my playthrough on the beginning of act 2. Wrote to Sony custoner service asking if I can cancel my refund request. Answer was negative - there's no such option tgey said.
Soo.. I bought myself physical copy with all those maps, postcards, stickers etc and enjoying it ever since.
I'll be playing Final Fantasy XV which I received yesterday. My wife got Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which we're playing in co-op.
Getting started with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Not expecting it to be as great as the original Phoenix Wright trilogy, but it should still be a lot of fun.
This weekend i'll be playing a new mix of games along my daily sports games of NBA 2k21, NHL 21, Madden NFL 21 and MLB The Show 19, i'll be playing these games
Cyberpunk with regular dose of Yakuza Like A Dragon. After 30 hours of Night City, I got my first crash lol. Hopefully this remains a rare event. Also mopping up Demons Souls trophies in New Game +++.
Received Sackboy a big adventure for Christmas and so will be playing that.
@carlos82
Retro games for Christmas, very nice:)
I’ve managed to squeeze in about five hours of Cyberpunk since release, so hopefully get back to that tomorrow evening.
Demon's souls is the big one but i might jump between some other games, I took down the Adjudicator and just been exploring 4-2 but i need to head back to 2-2 to take down the Flamelurker i really enjoy the level design of the souls games well the 3 I've played anyway! have a nice weekend and i'm officially renaming today boxed in day as we can't go anywhere!
Finishing off spider-man remaster dlc. Then on to either immortals or borderlands 3.
I started Cyberpunk and Demon's Souls yesterday.
Going to watch the latest PS Access Episode now, then The Hobbit, then back to the games.
After getting a bit tired of AC Valhalla, I’m back at Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter on my Vita. Good times...
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all on here inc the hard-working staff.
😉
Finished Jedi Fallen Order and had a lot of fun with it so back to Hollow Knight and torn between a new game like Ghost of Tsushima or back to Shadow of War or even replaying Horizon Zero Dawn.
Choices, choices.
Have fun everyone and don't eat too much!
Nothing...important exam approaching 😅
I just bought Persona 5 Royal yesterday, so I'll be busy with that for quite a while. If I'm not playing that I'll be on Destiny 2. Happy holidays everyone!
Beginning my second playthrough of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition. This time I'll be playing all the levels as Vergil.
A bit spoilt for choice after yesterday! I now have FF7R to dig into, on top of being part way through both Demon's Souls and Persona 4 Golden. Also got Ys Origin and Metroid Samus Returns to start too. Will be a lot of gaming this weekend!
A working day for me, 7.00 - 13.00, so now I'm quite broken.
Yesterday I beat FF7R so I could start Uncharted 4, but the bed is so comfortable...
I'll try to get back into Persona 5 Royal, otherwise I'm tempted to start playing Mafia: Definitive Edition since my mom got it for me as a Christmas gift yesterday.
@get2sammyb I would love to hear your thoughts on FF7 Remake after you beat it!
I finally finished Sakura Wars on Ps4 yesterday..a brilliant rpg that at 27 hours was just the right length. So as I received The Last Of Us Part 2 for Christmas I'm tempted to start that rather than start a game I've had over a year..
On the Ps5 I'll be continuing Assassins Creed Valhalla.I received Immortals Fenix Rising yesterday too but I don't really want to have more than one open world game on the go.May also do a bit more Sackboy on Ps5 as I haven't played much of that one.
On the Switch besides playing Animal Crossing I literally just started Sakuna Of Rice And Ruin a few hours ago which was another present.Absolutely loving it!
Still chipping away at Cyberpunk 2077. Still really enjoying it. I recently tried captain crunch berries. They were delicious. Happy gaming!
The Last of Us Part II for me, Trollhunters for my eldest!
Old game never played it but bought it on release. Blackwood Crossing short but a great story.
It's Spring Again (Vita) - Boredom has struck again
AlphaJax (Windows Phone) - Finally done with this.
Cut the Rope: Experiments (Windows Phone) - 2/3rds of the way through the game now.
Got spoilt by my partner yesterday sooo im having a wee shot of miles morales ps5 version
Mafia trilogy and aggelos which i am absolutely loving so far
PS4- Crash Bandicoot 4, Dragon’s Dogma and 13 Sentinels
Switch- Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy 7, and Super Mario 3D All Stars
I'm still playing Dragon Quest 11 S on PS4, but I will be playing Telltale's The Walking Dead Series Definitive Edition, I also wanna give The Outer Worlds another attempt because I couldn't really get into on my first time.
Doing some cleanup after my first playthrough of FF7R, starting Yakuza Kiwami, and playing Sackboy whenever the wife wants to play. Also having more than 33p worth of fun on Timber Tennis Versus and perhaps a few quick games of Worms Rumble if it ever stops crashing on me.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla on my PS5 yet again...
I’m about 70 hours in to Valhalla so maybe half way (I take my time and explore and collect everything) but I got final fantasy 7 remake and I really wanna play that. I just hate starting 2 games at once.
Miles Morales on PS5. Great game so far, looks beautiful, and same great gameplay as the first game. Venom moves are a nice addition. Does feel like more of the same though, and with Cyberpunk 2077 staring at me from its shrink wrap, not sure how how much longer I’ll be playing...
@quintumply Ashen was, in my mind, a very disappointing game. While it is pretty, a VERY limited and boring combat system and same-y enemies made me drop it after 4-5 hours. If you’re looking for a good souls-like hidden gem try Mortal Shell instead. Also a somewhat limited combat system, in terms of weapons and skills, but the hardening mechanic is a game changer, and the world is dark, beautiful, and creepy. And I liked that it’s rather short and doesn’t waste your time. Highly recommended!
Merry Christmas all, I'm currently playing Yakuza like a dragon and loving every minute. Also got two point hospital on the side and I need to clean up some last valhalla trophies.
As always I am at work. But becaue of lockdown, next week may be free, so I'll spare sometime in AC Valhalla (got from my wife for xmas). BTW started Van Helsing 3 last week, not bad, but I'm bit angry that couldn't import my VH2 character.
The division 2 doing season 4 challenges and Mario & rabbids such a wonderful xcom style game.
Got a few games that I might be messing around with. I expect to be playing these games at some point this weekend
Black Ops Cold War — I am sure there will be plenty of Christmas Noobs this weekend
Yakuza Like a Dragon — Heard some good things about this game, might pick it up with some money I got over the holiday.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla — Picked this one up on sale haven't started it yet cause of the Holiday.
Immortals Fenix Rising — Looking to get back into this one, if I can get it away from my roommate.
Continue the story in Yakuza 7. Just learned about switching jobs and I'm having an internal crisis on what jobs I should give my party.
@ApostateMage Same here. I was 91 hours this morning and clocked up another 5 hours today. It's a cracking game.
@Jimmer-jammer Do you have the captain's whistle?
@nathanSF haha I wish I did. Would be a cool phreaker memento to hold on to...all I have is a scarred mouth.
@Jimmer-jammer Don't think they sell Cap'n Crunch here in the UK. I've never seen it on the shelves
I bought Ghost of Toshiba (just a better name) since I've been waiting for a sale and my Lord, this could pass as a PS5 game. I'm playing it off my PS5's SSD for full loading benefits and playing on an LG CX... simply stunning. Glad I waited, stunning game and a great price. I'm not even mad when/if it comes to PS+, same as I wasn't when Control hit Game Pass this month because they're both experiences I'd happily pay for. I also bought CoD Cold War after swearing not to, mainly because my friends are all on it and I have to say it's a hoot online, and the campaign was really enjoyable. I love Cold War storylines and it didn't disappoint.
My girlfriend also renewed my PS Now sub, and there's plenty to play on there. We're lucky to have a low-latency Virgin connection, so either streaming or downloading is super quick. Between that and Astro's, I'm very glad I went PlayStation first this gen after being predominantly Xbox last time (I do get them all eventually but never all at once). Even treated myself to an official PlayStation t-shirt from Next!
@PlayNation5 it is a beautiful looking game.
Cyberpunk is still just too crash-happy for me lately. I found myself looking at the error report screen twice in 45 minutes yesterday. 🤷🏻♂️
Soooo GoT and Katamari it is.
@nathanSF on the right day I’d gladly trade the wide Canadian availability of Cap’n Crunch for easier access to a Caramac Bar. Boy, do I love those.
@Jimmer-jammer
Caramac, That's one bar that plain confused me. Not chocolate, strange, milky caramel-ish flavour. Still available all over the UK.
This weekend I'm playing Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon. So pretty good for a non-Atelier game from GUST
I'm still on PS4, bit more Watch Dogs: Legion, I like the game though I do see why the reviews were not the best. Maybe also some Miles Morales or Dirt 5, and Mega Man 2 if I'm feeling retro.
Uno and hatchimals board games with my daughtet aswell as making slime kits, soap kits and bath bombs with her.....oh the joy.
My wife got me Judgment for ps4 and 2 xenoblade games for the switch that im yet to start. I took my drone theory today and should be getting my Mavic air 2 soon but im off until the 4th so will squeeze in a bit of gaming sometime id have thought.
@NoCode23
Far Cry 4 looks much better on PS4. The way the trees appeared to look like flat, rotating 2D sprites when flying around in the gyrocopter was just one of the aspects that made the PS3 version look poor in comparison. However, like you, it’s the version I played on release.
@ Vacuumator
I thought it looked a lot better than i remembered, especially the draw distance. Then i watched a Far Cry 4 PS3 vs PS4 comparison video. Wow!!!
@ TheArt
I found FC5 a lot of fun with lots of lol moments. I also found the Arcade lots of fun.
Immortals : Fenyx Rising! I am having a blast exploring and the combat is tooooo satisfying.
Enjoy a relaxing, cozy holiday everyone!
PS4:
Call of Duty: Cold War
Last of Us Remastered
Fifa 21
Mortal Kombat 11
Sega Megadrive:
Mortal Kombat 2
also made a youtube channel during the lockdown.
Check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXzu3LwCLt7N8QEa2Z9wRLA
I hope everyone had a great Christmas too
@Blacksmith1985
Same edition here, pre-ordered.
Only game I've been playing since it arrived.
Everything about it is brilliant, one crash every 4 to 5 hours is no problem. Far, far more tolerable than the s**tshow that was Anthem, and the disaster that is Avengers
