Phwoar, this scribe loves the sound of this announcement. Capcom has revealed it will host a Resident Evil showcase next week on Thursday 21st January 2021, where it will share a new Resident Evil Village trailer and gameplay walkthrough. Those two exciting tidbits will be accompanied by more general news on the series as a whole, meaning there could even be another reveal or two to look forward to. The livestream will get underway at 2pm PT/ 5pm ET/ 10pm GMT — we're not sure how long it will last at the time of writing.
The Resident Evil showcase will also disclose details concerning a closed beta for some sort of four to six player online game, which will take place from 27th-29th January. It is not currently known if this is a mode contained within Resident Evil Village. You can apply for a slot through here, with the closed beta conducted on PlayStation 4. Don't worry if you own a PlayStation 5 though, this pre-release test can still be played via backwards compatibility.
So, what else could be in store for Resident Evil fans besides the aforementioned pieces of information? Perhaps a release date for Village? That would go down very nicely. Share your thoughts in the comments below.

So with closed beta on Ps4 is it safe to assume that the game will also be on Ps4?
This is my most anticipated game of the year, so I'm pumped.
Also, I hope that new multiplayer thing is something different from Resistance's style of gameplay.
if its half as good as RE7 were in for a treat
I expect more info on the netflix tv series. And there were rumours of resident evil revelations 3 exclusive to switch that might get mentioned. Hope we get a release date for village
Updated the article. The closed beta may not actually be for Resident Evil Village, but rather a different title celebrating the series' 25th anniversary.
@Rob_230 RE8 actually began development as Revelations 3 but was converted to a main entry when it tested so well. Fun tidbit.
I'm back in the Village, again in the Village
I'm back in the Village again.
I hope they keep Village next-gen exclusive. The footage looks so fantastic. Hoping we get a release date. I am expecting April/May.
Might be more of that Resistance mode, perhaps a stand alone purchase that expands on it. Or hopefully a Mercenaries reboot.
Yes, I'm really looking forward to this!
Resident Evil 99!
That's right around the corner!
AHH! Looking forward to this!
Everyone. Leave your spoilers at the door please.
Please do not post or allude to any Resident Evil Village spoilers in the comments section.
@LiamCroft that mean there another RE game beside Village this year correct ??
@MichaelHawj Possibly, we'll have to see what's announced next week.
@LiamCroft yeah can't wait to find out what is new Resident Evil title next week
Application sent! Hope I'm selected ><
I am moistly excited for this game.
@nessisonett Mercenaries reboot would be spectacular. So many fun co-op memories with RE5
@Gaming365247 No
@jmac1686 never knew that. Great fact! I wish Capcom would just embrace it as RE8 though. No idea why they are so reticent to call it that
First person = a big fat NO!
Looking forward to it. Enjoyed 7 despite its flaws, I'm sure the follow up will be even better!
Need to know if it supports PSVR. RE7 is what made me buy the PSVR.
@Gaming365247 yes they will both be on PS4 and PS4 lol
please be GOOD... I need another good RE game in my life!!
Would that be 4 to 6 player thing be one of those games listed in the supposed capcom leaks?
PS4 version confirmed? I hope so
@Woogy being closed minded = boring!
Do you have any more trumpisms you’d like to share?
Multiplayer for Res 8 Village has already been talked about. The application page for the Beta shows the Res Village backdrop in the background so it does seem that there is a link. I think they are testing the PS4 and Xbox versions of Resident Evil Village multiplayer first, as they are the versions most likely to struggle and require further optimisation.
@jmac1686 @Rob_230 Same here! I'm expecting news on the multiple NetFlix projects, the live-action reboot, Resident Evil 8: Village, and Resident Evil: Revelations 3.
