News at 11: popular video game developer will continue to make video games after its next big game. Who would have thought, huh? It's evident that Sony Santa Monica will be firing on all cylinders as it slowly builds up to the release of God of War Ragnarok on PlayStation 5 later this year — if it makes it — but what's just as interesting is that the studio is now actively hiring for what comes after that. In a post on the team's official Twitter account, a position as Art Director is advertised "for the development of a new unannounced title". The video attached features God of War, but that does not mean this project is necessarily attached to the franchise in question.
Fans of the developer have theorised over the prospect of Cory Barlog working on a new IP for a long time now, which this very well could be. Sony Santa Monica made the high-profile hire of former journalist Alanah Pearce late last year as a writer, and with that portion of the Ragnarok project presumably wrapped up, there's a possibility she too is already beavering away on the secret project mentioned in the tweet. So, what could this unannounced title be? We have no idea, but it looks like exciting times are ahead for Sony Santa Monica.

Hey! Couldn't this be taken as a good sign? Perhaps they are wrapping up their current project?
That's the efficiency I want to see. Santa Monica is a two team studio anyways right? I'm pretty I've seen this somewhere posted.
Mimir Football?
This tell us that the new god of war is coming soon.
The sky is the limit for this studio. I’m hoping the SSD really opens the doors for developers to make games faster. Less bottlenecking and fewer tricks needed along with a focused, organized vision should help speed up the pipeline.
GOD OF WAR 2 FOR 2021 OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN'T BE THINKING ABOUT THEIR OTHER GAME.
sony 2020 get ready to get beaten by sony themselves
well, I hope
I think they're already working on another game, alongside GOW Ragnarok. One of their directors confirmed that the team is expanding:

Hopefully not another GoW title!!!!!!!!
Talk about making huge assumptions. I predict whatever they're doing will be good.
@Mpquikster My best guess is greed. Either employees leaving for a more lucrative job, or asking for a bigger paycheck and being sacked for it. Another possibility is the studio getting bigger and needing more staff, possibly to work on multiple projects.
Santa Monica was working on a new sci-fi IP on PS4 before it was scrapped in favor of God of War. Would love to see them revisit that as I love a good original science fiction IP and think they could knock it out of the park.
@TheLightSpirit So, you think they're hiring people just to hang out until they start a new game?
God of War 3: The Game After Ragnarok*
*which we named Ragnarok just to throw you of the trail
@TheLightSpirit are you just happen to be a fan of another console brand .
@TheLightSpirit haha well the tweet clearly says they're hiring an Art Director specifically, for a project that is currently being developed. Just seemed like you didn't read the article before commenting..
@TheLightSpirit Sure, but you originally stated you didn't think this new game would be worked on this year, but doesn't them hiring for it right now clearly mean otherwise?
Kratos the g.o.a.t.word up son
“Organic growth” as suggested by Jim Ryan. A smart move to increase the output of every major 1st party playstation studio.
@TheLightSpirit I hear ya. Sony has never released anything close to that though, and they're certainly not going to start now. If God of War is in any trouble they'd have no problem delaying it until it's ready.
I remember Sony Bend started hiring for an Unannounced AAA Title 2 - 3 months before Days Gone released, and then 4 - 5 months later they started hiring for what sounded like Days Gone 2, I don't know about anyone else, but I believe every one of Sony's First-Party Studios should be working on two projects at once.
The fact that Sony Santa Monica Studios is hiring for their next game, tells me they're near the end of Development on God of War Ragnarok, however I'm still somewhat in doubt of the 2021 release window.
@JAMes-BroWWWn - They were before God of War (2018), however I think they suffered a lot of layoffs after their last few projects not performing as well as they had expected, even forcing their two teams to merge into one, honestly if God of War (2018) wasn't the smash hit that it was, God of War (2018) could have been their last game.
Think Naughty Dog with Uncharted Drake's Fortune, if Uncharted had flopped, Naughty Dog would have been shut down.
Clearly 2 Teams now, the Art Director of GoW Raf Grassetti tweeted that he issnt going anywhere

Bad signal, two teams? If they split the devs? In my country we say: don't move on a winning team
@TheLightSpirit @Mpquikster someone needs to bring them coffee and Red Bulls.
@LordSteev That's what I'm hoping too!
they were working on a new IP for PS4 before Cory Barlog rejoined and they began on the GoW reboot.. there was a rumour it was space shooter but sony canned it due to similarities to destiny which it felt was better and its social features had a more desirable angle they were trying to push with ps4, so no guarantee anything will necessarily come of this.
santa monica serves as a partner studio for other (external) studios on playstation projects.. so it's reasonable to think they could work on two IPs at the same time, especially if it's expanding. growing its own studios would probably be sony's preferred method of producing more playstation content.. especially if studios are working on just one game and it takes 4-5 years. with enough resources working on two games, you can stagger them and get stuff every two years even if it takes 4 years to make a game.. sony's probably eager to turn many of its big studios into the same model as insomniac.. spiderman (2018), miles morales (2020), R&C (2021).. i expect spiderman 2 to arrive possibly autumn 2022.. that's a fair rhythm for producing new games from one studio.
@TheLightSpirit
What makes you think it will be delayed?
@JustPlainLoco..... Your theory is debunked by the fact that Guerilla made games that did not meet commercial or critical expectations for over 10 years ...hence kill one franchise is dead... Yet Sony has not canned them and supported them until they found their groove with Horizon Zero Dawn.
How many of MEDIA molecules games have real commercial hits, yet Sony is pumping money into them till this day........
If your theory had any once of truth then we would not even have Days Gone......
@GREGORIAN - If you've watched Raising Kratos: The Making of God of War on YouTube, you will understand why I came to the conclusion I did, the team behind God of War themselves feared their studio would be closed if God of War didn't meet expectations, and it very well could have happened just based on the situation the studio was facing at the time, same situation occurred with Naughty Dog and Uncharted, check out some of the Behind the Scenes videos for Uncharted Drake's Fortune, they truly believed Uncharted could have been their last game.
Not sure why you're bringing Guerrilla Games, Media Molecule & Sony Bend Studios into this, @JAMes-BroWWWn asked a question regarding Sony Santa Monica having two teams or not, and I provided an answer based on the information I am currently aware of, so no I wasn't just pulling 'theories' out of my backside, though I will admit I had forgotten where I got this information until after I had made that comment, but yes check out Raising Kratos: The Making of God of War through PlayStation's YouTube Channel, I think it's about 2 hours long, but I'm pretty sure the information I provided is documented within the first 20 - 30 minutes, it's been a while since I watched it.
it seen by the concept arts shared of Santa Monica Studios new game, it could be a RPG or a action Adventure game, open world or not.
@LiterallyDoNotCare I truly hope this is the case, 2021 winning so far!
Ratchet & Clack: Rifts Apart! God of War II: Ragnarok! Horizon II: Forbidden West! Kena: Bridge of Spirits!
Plus some other games I'm forgetting.
