Update: Here's something of a head-scratcher: Resident Evil Re:Verse is being developed for the PlayStation 4 only, despite it being bundled with Resident Evil Village, which will release on the PlayStation 5 as well as the PlayStation 4. Capcom explains that the game will playable on Sony's next-gen system via backwards compatibility.
The press release explains: "This thank you bonus to fans features striking comic-style visuals and sets popular Resident Evil characters against each other in four to six-player deathmatch battles in iconic Resident Evil locations. Players can choose from a fan-favorite roster, each with their own unique skillsets to master. When players are defeated in combat, their character respawns by mutating into a bioweapon to enact revenge on their foes. More information on Resident Evil Re:Verse will be shared at a later time."
Original Story: Just like with Resident Evil 3, publisher Capcom is once again bundling a free multiplayer mode with one of its flagship campaigns. This time, everyone who buys Resident Evil Village will also get Resident Evil Re:Verse, an six-person online experience focusing on fan favourite characters like Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
The reveal trailer – debuted during the Resident Evil Showcase livestream – was light on information. The game appears to be adopting an unorthodox art style: it has a cel-shaded, comic book look to it. We know that the company is planning a closed beta for this, as it was recently accepting applicants for that. Presumably we’ll learn more soon.

That cel-shaded look really threw me for a loop after seeing the RE Engine work its magic for Village.
This looks rubbish, frankly.
The idea sounds nice but the artstyle looks like a filter you'd get as a unlockable. Bit like what Crash 4 did. Problem is it doesn't look right, if your going to have a comic book style then they need to commit to it.
This looked pretty bad
@get2sammyb TRUTH.
I'm not interested at all in the multiplayer mode but I agree...it looks pants.
This looks awful. Wish it was some type of co-op mode or a new version of Raid mode. It's so weird to just see people shooting each other in an RE game.
Also, the filter looks like it's laid over the REmake 2's map, which was fantastic as is to begin with. It all feels so unnecessary.
This looks so generic and so not Resident Evil lol but hey at least you can play with the enemies too...
"Free with full price purchase"
Back in my day we called that the multiplayer part of the game you just bought.
Steal yo money: the game
@Menchi Fair!
Didn’t look amazing but they do seem to be making a bit of an effort with these multiplayer modes. Fair enough!
Capcom please stop with the Resident Evil PVP modes.
Even my low expectations were to high. Utter rubbish and pointless.
Hopefully this is a separate download so I could ignore it and not waste precious space.
I was one of the only ones who really like Resistance, but frankly this looks ***** lol
Ugh. Is this supposed to be a consolation prize for the lack of VR? If so, weak.
I would rather they just gave us free RE skins for Fortnite tbh.
Its like they are alergic for coop just release a new new Breakout with optional online coop or couch coop. Give up Capcom you suck at at this and its so stupid Jill/ Claire/Leon fighting each other... ☹️
@fR_eeBritney - We don't stock Fortnite, is The Division 2 okay?
While I like the idea of a game that takes the characters from all 3 RE Engine games, the idea of putting them in a deathmatch game with a comicbook filter thrown over the top is somewhat less interesting (The fact it's only releasing on PS4 makes it even worse) to the point where I feel it makes REsistance look like an inspired choice in comparison.
Honestly, I feel a Mercenaries-style game would've been a much more appropriate (and more appreciated) idea that, could still incorporate the "Turn into a crazy Bioweapon" idea, but at the same time offer a more substantial and enjoyable experience that better celebrates Resident Evil as a franchise (To be fair, it wouldn't be the best idea given Resi Evil's a series more about puzzles than anything else, but it would be a lot better than what they've come up with).
Lol at first I thought I was just having weird streaming issues watching this but they’re for sure going for some Madworld looking stuff with this. Most definitely to help it run ok on last gen consoles.
Man do I miss mercenaries mode. I actually bought the mercenaries game in the 3DS back in the day and loved it.
Why capcom spending money on this useless multiplayer mode? That's not the reason people buy re games and there a bunch of free multiplayer games out there 😕
Just add more value to the single player by adding more game mode like additional characters, mercenary, arcade, or others.
@wiiware I feel they just want a piece of the multiplayer pie.Once Capcom puts out a game even if its well received none of there games have the same kind of legs as something that you can constantly spend money on like a destiny ,Fortnite or a call of duty. Its like they want to keep trying different ways to stick MP in their RE games and every time it seems like it gets worse and worse .
I would prefer if they bring back Mercenaries Mode for RE8. That is one of those modes that you cannot help but repeatedly play just to beat your previous record.
man...they are really out of touch with their fanbase if they think a MP mode like this is what people would want.
@Otherbarry The competitor in multiplayer section are really absurd now, gamers can get free really great multiplayer games like destiny 2, call of duty, fortnite, and many others. This multiplayer mode is like old xbox 360 / ps3 era games back then, when nearly every game has forced multiplayer component.
I noticed they have RE7 Chris in there. Weird considering they backtracked on that design for RE8.
And yeah I actually enjoyed Resistance but idk about this one.
I've just downloaded the beta, it's not until next week! We will see if it's any good.
If I can be Ada, I'll try it.
Looked JANKY! seemed like so many of the cheap bargain BR games that have come out recently. Capcom probably just handed it off to some small developer or whatever.
Interesting to see how it fares.
Hard pass, not a fan of multiplayer.
