It's been over two months since Sony's super-fast megalith of a current-gen console hit store shelves. The PS5 has gone on to break sales records and play host to a number of top-tier launch titles, but with consumer demand for the system still sky high, actually getting your hands on the black and white beast can be shockingly difficult.
Scalpers continue to dominate even mainstream headlines — groups that use automated bots to secure fresh PS5 stock before regular customers even have a chance to click the 'buy now' button. Online retailers have told us multiple times that they're trying everything to curve the trend, but not much has changed over the last 70 days or so.
And with that in mind, we want to know: do you have a PS5? Or are you still looking for one? Vote in our poll, and then detail your situation in the comments section below.

I got my PS5 on launch day, so I haven't realized how bad the situation was. I can't believe that people still can't buy the console.
Got my PS5 at launch, but had no idea how lucky I would end up being. Never thought the situation would be this bad post-launch, especially after Christmas.
Was one of the lucky chosen by Sony to pre-order directly from them for launch.
With how it’s going here in the uk the PS10 will be coming out by the time I get one!!!! 😡
I subscribed to this twitter account that followed and speculated potential post-launch PS5 releases and managed to get one. Since then, I've been getting constant notifications after forgetting to unsubscribe. Because of that and the post-holiday season, I feel like the shortage should end within a few months
Try as I might still haven’t got my hands on one. Oh well I’ve got so much to play it really is a non-issue.
I did manage to get a Switch though.
Need to have an option for "No, I'm interested but can wait".
I picked the "nope, can't get one" option, though it's not true to my situation.
The PS5 is an elaborate hoax, I don't think it actually exists.
I voted "no I do not want a PS5" but that is only for the time. I do want a PS5, eventually, but well after a year of release. Maybe even two years after release. I have a massive backlog that needs attention.
Not me, I haven't actively been trying to get one yet. Once there's more next gen exclusives (or is it current gen now?), then I'll strike.
I want it but at the same time, there is nothing I want to play on it right now.
My PS4 pro should be good for another year at least if not more, but if I do find a PS5 in stock with a trade-in option... Hmm...
@RR529 I've added that as an additional option!
My supplier inform me that I will get my console after Christmas, but I got it in November - best surprise of my life.
I was able to get a PS5 at launch. Thanks to a scenario that scientists have determined, is a miracle.
I've been trying to get one now for over 3 months. Sat waiting in website queues, checking around all the sites every day. I've had my fingertips on the PS5 a few times. Added to the basket, but just can't complete the order as yet.
Every month that goes by dampens the financial impact of buying one by lowering the incremental amount needed to be put away monthly. At this rate, by the time I can find one, it’ll feel like buying a coffee. I’m okay with that.
I got mine at launch, thank feck. Blown away by it so far. I love even just looking at the thing sitting there beside the TV.
I've been trying to help a friend of mine get one ever since though and it's not going well. Scalpers are beating us to it every time.
@Shepherd_Tallon
Yup - my mate who works nightshirts has been trying to secure one for me but scabby scalpers scupper any chance of it happening. If anyone deserves pubic lice it’s them.
I unfortunately got my PS5 off a scalper but I'm still super happy that I finally have it in my hands. Although I need my Dualsense replaced because the right trigger is weakened because of the spring inside.
Got it at launch pre-ordered with Amazon during the 2nd wave it's the 1st time I've ever been able to get a console launch day ^__^. Huge sympathies for people who can't find one though been there when PS4 launched I couldn't find one for 7 months it sucked
Got one at launch but was offered silly money for it. So I used some to start building a PC and saved the rest for a retail PS5 and will happily wait until the games come before jumping back on board
I got mine at launch thankfully. I've been loving it and have barely touched my PS4 since. The problems with getting one are insane though. I've never seen such a chaotic console launch. Before if pre-orders didn't sell out immediately upon announcement, so after E3 you had a couple weeks to pre-order. I had to sit outside GameStop for 12 hours and I'm so glad I did the longer I see this shortage going on for.
I'll wait for a reason to buy a PS5. Like forbidden west.
Also you forgot the option "I'm a piece of trash who bought several so I can sell them at a higher price".
I might get it later this year or early 2022. I got a huge backlog on PS4. Running PS4 Pro with SSD and I am satisfied atm. Not really a fan of the design and cooling structure of the current PS5 so I might wait for a refresh 🙂 Props for all that owns one and are satisfied though!
got ps5 at launch, had my interest lodged since march 2020; im guessing a lot didn't preorder in advance
I got mine at launch, thankfully! It's crazy that scalpers are getting all the available consoles out there - even crazier that it would be as easy as not buying from them to stop scalpers, but people do buy from them...
I don't think the situation is going to get better until 2022. Once we have enough industries to produce vaccines to the entire world in a timely manner, then finding PS5s in stock will be easier.
i got mine in the first wave of pre-orders somehow. was pure luck.
just about the only luck i've had in the past year an a half honestly.
@ShogunRok, thanks!
@Jimmer-jammer that's a good way to look at it.
@ShogunRok "Nah, but I can wait"
Thanks, chose that one. I'll start looking for a PS5 when Ratchet & Clank gets dated, unless it somehow comes to PS4 as well, then I'll wait for, well I'm not really sure after that, some other big exclusive I guess. God of War, but only if it's 2 of 2, if it's 2 of 3 I'm waiting for 3.
It's crazy how R&C was pushed as a launch "window" title, and here we are 2 months after launch and if doesn't even have it's first release date yet. How long is a launch window, 3 months right?
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/08/ratchet_and_clank_rift_apart_will_release_in_ps5s_launch_window
@rjejr I would say 3 months is "launch window", yeah. 4 at a push. Hopefully we hear something about it soon — Sony's been silent on just about everything since the PS5's release.
@ShogunRok Yeah, them and Nintendo both. Well Nintendo does have another Wii U port, woo who.
Starting TW3: Blood & Wine tonight, that should last me a couple of weeks. Maybe Feb will bring us a State of Play. 🤞
I have a PS5 (digital).
Disappointed one of the two dual sense's I have, the right trigger has already gone. Subsequently been returned.
And that's just from playing PS4 games, with the exception of Dirt 5.
I'd hope they would be a bit more reliable than that, seeing as my previous two dual shocks lasted the life of my PS4 Pro.
@Futtbuck Mug.
Had 2 preorders put in and managed to get one day one. I kept the other preorder for the second round to give to a friend, unfortunately the company messed up the order and we lost it - a shame but hope it went to someone else who is enjoying it though
Nah. IF I get one, it'll be for games I can't play elsewhere. And it'll take a while for the system to accumulate enough titles I'm interested in.
Rather than rely on blind luck, or use an online service that alerts tens of thousands of people in one go, I created my own bot that monitored John Lewis and as soon as it saw activity it alerted me and I manually nipped on and bought one.
They sold out in about 11 minutes. In hindsight, I probably should have bought a few and made a killing! But I bought just the one for myself 👍🙂
I was able to pre-order a PS5 from Gamestop and got it on launch day. So far I'm loving it. I have 7 PS5 games and about 100 PS4 games I still haven't played yet so I'll be busy for a while. Hopefully we will be able to upgrade the SSD storage soon because my internal memory is almost full.
I got mine at launch, but unfortunately it has seen little playtime. Hopefully in a few months time I will be able to dedicate some more time to it.
I may however try to squeeze in Miles Morales. I picked up the Ultimate Edition recently (£40 is a big improvement on the launch price), and the five hour runtime is hugely appealing to me at the moment.
Still happy with my PS4 for the time being plus there's not really any games that scream a must buy for me yet.
Mine is likely to be running Stardew Valley for the next couple of months once the 1.5 update arrives. Next gen FTW!
Will probably get one in the summer when there will hopefully be better supply...
My guess is that Horizon Forbidden West will be the killer app that gets me to buy one. But that's also coming out for PS4, so we'll see. I need a few more exclusives for the upgrade to feel worth it.
Under no illusions as to how lucky I am. Got one at launch but put it back to retailer after repeated issues with multiple games and sony support not committing to it being a hardware issue. Got one from currys last week after checking the app before going to work at the absolute right time by sheer fluke. Sorry but think it will be rough all year, 2021 Christmas will be savage, 2022 before it becomes widely available in UK I think.
Nope dont have one and at this point i cant be bothered both nexgen consoles. 1. not worth checking every day for stock, 2. Even if you do manage to get if you get it shipped you have to worry about it getting stolen 3. No worthwhile nexgen only games. (personally never cared for Demon Souls) i'll have my shiny new nexgen console when i can walk in a store and walk out with it.
Every time I go to Gamestop, Target, or Wallmart, I check if they're in stock. One day they will be. That's the day I get my PS5.
Was lucky enough to get one when pre orders first went live.
I very nearly cancelled the order a few days later because I wasn't overly convinced by the launch line up.
In hindsight knowing now how hard it is to get one I'm so glad I didn't cancel
Got one at launch. Played Miles, Demon's, Bugsnax and Sekiro (4K60) and sold it to a friend at cost so he could experience the goods too. I'll get one once this craze dies down...if ever.
@Slippship
I owe mine to my wife too, lol. I was at work and she managed to snag one after much stress.
So far I’ve beaten Demon’s Souls (got the platinum), Black Ops campaign and plenty of multiplayer, Until Dawn (platinum), Astro’s Playroom (platinum), put about 40 hours into Cyberpunk, another 40 into FFXIV, and I’m about 10 into God of War.
I’m actually at the point of wanting to jump back on my PC to switch it up from single player games for a little bit. I figured this would happen around this time anyways.
I m between i dont want and i can wait. Maybe in 2023 i get one of those
I don't have one yet but my brother does... and lucky for me I am currently living with my brother
I do plan to get one eventually for whenever I move out. I've had a lot of fun playing Astro's Playroom and Spider-Man and I'm going to want to be able to play the new Ratchet and Clank and Gran Turismo when they come out.
Gave up trying to get one. Playing my PS4 Pro less. Not buying new games. Not at all pleased with how Sony has handled this release, particularly with regard to their utter inability to cope with scalpers and bots. They clearly don’t care as long as they get paid/their sales numbers are strong. They could have implemented programs to ensure that their more dedicated PS4 players were ensured pre-order stock, but they chose to take us for granted and leave us to at the mercy of staggeringly inept retailers and scalpers/bots. Getting to purchase an expensive gaming console shouldn’t be a game/grind in itself. I’ll see if I still care when I can just easily buy one at MSRP, in 2022 or whenever. Can’t say that I’m enthusiastic to give Sony my money at this point.
I managed to get mine on release from Base.I didn't even have to through the hassle of trying to pre order one, they just sent me an email asking if I'm interested in buying one.Very lucky.
I think it's absolutely sickening that scalpers are just snatching them all up though.I feel sorry for everyone who was told last November was the ps5 launch and yet are still struggling to get hold of one.
I have one, but between the disappointment of CP2077, having ripped through Demon's Souls and my PGCE picking up pace, it's hardly being used. 😔
I managed to grab a PS5 at launch, not to knock the pessimists who say “meh it’s not that much of an upgrade or why bother when there’s hardly any games?” but I for one can live with not having my Playstation periodically sound like a jet engine whilst playing games & having load times be so minimal that they’ve become an afterthought. Also once you experience the haptics and how they can be used in a game like Demon’s Souls Remake you’ll never want to go back to rumble. In short it’s well worth the wait so don’t get your hopes down!
The best thing I can say about the current state of PS5 & it’s UI is that there’s been no major flaws or minor daily annoyances like i’ve experienced in the past and things will only get better when more games/updates come out
I have honestly stopped trying. Until you can buy them in stores it's pointless to try. You can't beat the bots.
So hopeless in Japan! ( ´・ω・`)
There are few stocks for retail.
Maybe 'Much later in the year'.
I'm Canadian. That's my answer
I have had mine since the UK launch. I got mine through shopto.net . I registered my interest for a ps5 back in june 15th. After the september reveal, i received a email asking me if i want to turn my interest into a preorder. I did. I was then told not to pay any money until i am chosen for a day one console. I was. Loving my ps5 since. So quiet and quick. I do hope everyone who wants a ps5, gets one real soon. Good luck!
Pre-ordered the evening before they should have gone live, from GAME. About 11:30pm.
Wasn't luck at all. Just experience.
In what world did people think that all retailers will switch on preorder pages at exactly midnight, or 9am or whatever?
Can't think of a time in my 35+ years of gaming, with at least 20odd of those purchasing hardware through t'internet, that any retailer has stuck to a time. Sometimes, for whatever reason, they go live LATE, maybe even by hours, but never 'on time'.
Delivered day one, love the console, the silence, the load speed, the dualsense, everything.
Also, "I'll get one when there are games for it"
Erm, nope. The scalpers will carry on regardless. Games or no games, they have teams of people doing this, AS A JOB.
People will be be buying from scalpers for a long while yet.
While covid is still the buzzword of 2021, production lines, supply chains/distribution, are affected by it.
The only way people will have a near fair chance is if bricks and mortar stores are open and have stock. Then it'll be back to the old fashioned camp out overnight.
Do I support the scalper stance? No way, wonkers, the lot of 'em.
But one needs to be realistic.
Would I sell mine?
No, because I won't be able to re-buy any time soon. And chiefly because I AM a gamer.
As I posted on a different thread, people need to strangle the scalper chain.
Never buy from a reseller, and they will have large debts and no capital flow to pay those debts.
All scalper groups do not start with ready cash.
It's all purchased on short term, high interest loans, or credit cards at 30%.
Will people stop buying? No.
'cos they want what they want.
I want all PS5 in the hands of gamers ASAP.
Keep 'em peeled, stay sharp, DON'T buy from resellers.
The price in my country is very high (almost $700), so I'll wait until the demand is lower so we get a price drop.
Don't really see myself buying it until, like, two years from now. The only exclusive out right now that I'd very much like to play is Demon's Souls, and I need at least five or six games like that to take the plunge.
Still a myriad things for me to play on PS4 even though I've been plat'ing big titles left and right since I bought the console. Man, what a library.
Just got my ps5 on monday. Ps5 preorder in my country (sea region) is online raffle, I preordered it but I don’t get the console. Fortunately the game store has additional ps5 and since I’m one of the first people that called the store and input my name there, I can buy ps5 on the store 😃
I received my PS5 on launch day. Pre-ordered it back in September.
@carlos82
Man even building a PC is ridiculous right now. I looked at building a mid range for myself but graphics card prices are about as bad as PS5 scalp prices right now.
You know things are bad when the Switch, a console on its fourth year on the market, is difficult to find.
Got mine at launch, enjoyed it so far but its not without its issues, no communities or info feed , no usb backup , crashes in sleep mode a lot and i have problems recharging the dual sense.
Also seriously needs more storage space , Sony need to activate the extra internal SSD slot and offer or recommend a PCIE x4 drive.
@kyleforrester87 To be fair most ppl have jobs and family, probably don’t have all day to sit in front of a computer waiting. You know, grown up stuff....
Don’t have one yet, but definitely do want one. I can wait though, I have plenty of games to play on PS4 and Switch. And of course I have the next best thing to a PS5, the Sega Genesis Mini 😁
In no hurry at this point to pick one up. Other than Demon's Souls which I already have on PS3 there's nothing on it that my PS4 Pro can't play. Sure the games would look better and have a better framerate on PS5 but that's not a huge deal to me. Bloodborne is when I finally got a PS4 so I'll wait for something must have to come along.
I only hope that the supply outruns the scalpers at some point and they have to build a fort of them to sleep in and boil their shoe for food.
I got a digital console at launch, but sold it at a loss because my internet is too hit and miss to own a digital only console. I've realised that I'm happy with my PS4 Slim at the moment. I'll clear my backlog before I get another PS5.
got my PS5 on launch day too together with LG OLED 65inch... I'm loving life and some PS4 games I'm playing thru now, almost look like a brand new game on this TV and PS5 upscaling...
Pre-ordered it at EB Games (Australia). Picked it up day one. Half way through Demons Souls, at the last campaign mission on Cyberpunk. Only played an hour of Miles Morales, and probably sank the rest of my gaming time into Black Ops Cold War.
Had one massive hard crash yesterday with it. Was playing Black Ops multiplayer and it crashed. It emitted a high pitch screech and I had to switch it off at the wall. Luckily it was fine after a reboot. I thought that was the end of it.
Had a couple of issues with the SSD. Had to install Rainbow Six Siege PS5 version three times before it would work. The install seemed to be corrupted. Had Cold War PS5 version installed, and I removed the campaign after I had finished it. One of the regular updates then wouldn't install, so had to reinstall it all again and have just left on the full install.
Obviously the usual crashes with Cyberpunk. Every couple of hours it would crash.
So all in all still a little bit temperamental.
A PS5? Maybe in in 2-3 years when there might be an all black slim model. I have no desire to spend $500 for how the current PS5 looks, its size, and lack of some features.
Maybe too this gen i will pass on Sony and go with MS. That all black rectangle shaped box is a thing of beauty compared to the present PS5 and is smaller in size. The XBOX X also has bc to 360/PS3 gen games, better external storage, and a web browser.
Few days after launch for me.
As for the second question in the poll, I don’t really expect people to easily walk into any store and be able to purchase until early 2022.
During normal launches, you usually can’t purchase at will until a few months later (March or so). With the pandemic and everything that comes with how 2020 played out and into 2021, I don’t see how it doesn’t get extended past that.
Then before we know it, there’s going to be the mad scramble for an already coveted item going into this fall and the holidays.
Was one of the lucky few to be right there and snag one on November 25th when Walmart had more in stock for about 2 minutes.
What exclusives would justify the $500 price tag? Astro's playroom?
Currently, only interested in playing Miles Morales. So no, I haven't thought of buying a PS5 just, yet. Don't think there are any exclusives that I'm interested in 2021 either except for maybe the Horizon sequel. I also have a feeling a lot of games that are slated to release this year will get delayed because of the pandemic.
I haven't even tried. I did manage to get an Xbox Series X so I can wait till the PS5 is available in stores.
Got one at launch. Was probably the easiest time to get one if you were aware of the news. After launch seems harder because even the most casual gamers not following news try to get one.
I honestly dont know when shortage will end because the demand is unprecedented and I think will grow even more with more games released.
All in all I think the main issue is extraordinary demand that's not about to slow down.
And stop posting clickbait articles about scalpers. Dont make it easy for them
@Rhaoulos
I agree. The press should inform/educate the public telling them how despicable scalping is instead of promoting the idea.
I'd like one, especially with being off work just now it would be great to get to grips with it but it ain't gonna happen. I can wait until they are readily available, whenever that'll be because I'm not spending my days competing with scalper bits trying to get it online just now.
Got one early December, and I absolutely love it! Small HDD is a bit of an annoyance, though.
@ShogunRok Do we know if the problem is due to shortage of a specific piece of hardware? At least that would make sense... Or do you think Sony is not selling them on purpose since games keep getting delayed?
No chance. I’ve tried, been scammed, looked again and still nothing.
PS5 = 1
PS5 games = 0*
*Yay Village demo. 🙂
@wiiware I'm glad you were able to pick one up in your region, mate! What was the first thing you played?
@ZAKtheRIPPER idiots
I had pre-ordered early with ShopTo for my dad (that was a while after they were doing the pre-orders) and guess I was lucky to get one in the pre-order on Amazon for me.
I'm also trying to get a graphics card for my PC at a reasonable price - now that HAS been difficult!
I just don’t need one yet.
I still have more than 200 games to play on PS4 and PSVR that are keeping me busy. Plus I refuse to get a PS5 until i’ve upgraded my TV.
A few of my friends have got the PS5 but are still playing on 32-40inch standard HD TV’s. I get the excitement of a new console but for me if you don’t have the TV to truly take advantage of the tech, whats the point?
I’ll get one around April/May.
@TheRedComet yeah that is the stumbling block at the moment, I've picked up an old 770gtx for £50 so that the PC is usable and there are a few older games I've missed out on after being out of the PC game for quite some time. I'll just keep my eyes peeled for the new cards restock in spring
Got one at launch, was lucky on game, managed to get a preorder the night of the PlayStation reveal. Was just extremely lucky, just wish scalpers would stop making it so hard to get a console
I'm part of the admin team on a UK Facebook PS5 group and we're constantly inundated with post requests asking if anyone knows where they can get a PS5 or when the next drop will be. We haven't run a poll recently to see what the split is like, but it feels like around 40% probably don't and are actively searching (it would be a lot more, but we don't accept people who are purely asking to join because they just want to find stock). There's certainly a lot of frustration and anger at the retailers and scalpers, but also a total lack of understanding of the impact of Covid on supply chains and component availability too.
Preordered in September with Box.com. Still waiting to be allocated one.
@andreoni79
Well, according to Sky news there’s a worldwide semi conductor shortage they say has impacted manufacture of Xbox consoles (and so one would presume PS5 also). But this is Sky news.
I got one at launch but gave it to a friend as I wasn't too bothered about having it day one.
My plan was to get one around April/May time this year so I'm still hopeful that the stock issues will be sorted by then.
@thefourfoldroot Was on BBC News also, but was more talking about how Volkswagen aren't able to produce enough cars due to chip shortages, it noted new console launches and phone launches being part of the problem.
On the PS5 front I've been very lucky it seems and have managed to get 3 confirmed (2 delivered) within the first month or so of launch.
1st one was for me, pre ordered on announcement date with Game and accidentally managed to cancel my pre order in an attempt to change address using my phone and accidentally tapping cancel without any prompt of "are you sure?". Game were most unhelpful, thats the last time I use Game.
2nd again for me, ordered on the first wave of restock with Very.co.uk.
3rd for a friend via the BT shop and arrived mid Dec.
While stressful, I seem to have been one of the lucky ones thats had to scour a bit but got there in the end without too much fuss. So much so I had another in my basket from Amazon but decided against selling it to CEX.
Luckily got one a couple weeks back thanks to Twitter stockchecking accounts and several days of missed sleep. Been trying since launch day though, so all told about 2 months of effort 😬
@solocapers
No, Sky news had an article on higher than expected MS profits, which they put down to a big increase in Azure server use as businesses go virtual, and the release of the consoles, which they noted had been restricted by semiconductor shortages.
I was lucky enough to get one for launch, but they will clearly still be in limited in numbers for a good time.
I have one. Love it. Playing cyberpunk and nba 2k21 at the moment.
Waiting for all the early adopters to complain about bugs and missing features that'll get fixed before I dip my toe in.
Plus, I'm waiting for a killer game that is PS5 only and I haven't seen one of those yet.
To be fair, I wait normally for about a year after launch for the above things to have been rectified. Also, the PS4 juggernaut doesn't appear to be running out of road anytime soon.
Didn’t get one (didn’t try). I can wait.
The only game I was interested in (Miles Morales) was released on PS4 and looked incredible.
Demons Souls - I can wait.
Ratchet & Clank - I can wait.
Some people are going crazy (or getting worked up) trying to get hold of a PS5 and I really don’t understand why. It just doesn’t feel like a necessary purchase right now. And with all the game delays (many of which are coming to PS4 anyway), is it really worth getting stressed out or upset over slightly better graphics or slightly faster loading times? I sure as hell don’t think so.
It’s the latest console and naturally people want it. But do they need it? I suppose that’s up to each individual to decide.
Haven’t got one and have now given up even bothering to look, luckily I have plenty to still get through on the old gen and there’s no system seller on either next gen console yet. It’s disappointing but I don’t really feel like I’ve missed out on anything yet...the controller is the most intriguing thing for me.
@PossibLeigh Astro playroom of course, I want to finish it before playing anything else 😁
Man dualsense is more next-gen than any graphics update, it's really like I'm playing arcade games with great rumble, it's crazy I can feels different surface on astro with the gamepad.
The os is a bit barebones though, I want folder back, lol.
I was (by pure luck) able to get a PlayStation 5 from Amazon.co.uk on launch day, (it was actually my last ditch attempt as all the other sites had sold out by then)
It was crazy, they had announced they would start selling PlayStation 5's at 12 noon (Irish time) but the site was under such strain that it was closer to 1pm before they did, but I was prepared, I had already logged into my account & was on the PS5 page, (which I was constantly refreshing) so when they went on sale it only took 2 or 3 clicks, (as well as what felt like an never ending wait to see if the transaction would go through) and I had it!
By the time my sale was done and I returned to the PlayStation 5 page (maybe 3 minute) they were sold out, it even came 2 days later (thanks amazon prime fast delivery)!
I even got a few games with it (which I had already picked out and had waiting in my basket for checkout), in particular I wanted to get Spider-Man: Miles Morales Deluxe Edition (both because I really wanted that game & because bonus it includes the remaster of the 2018 Spiderman game) and I am so happy I did, both are bloody brilliant games and look so good on PS5, and while Spiderman Remastered is much longer (the base game is quite long in itself, but it also includes all 3 DLC's built in), Spider-Man: Miles Morales has an extra oomph to it because it was built for the ps5 and uses its power!
I usually wait for the first price drop before I get a new console. By then there's more games out (and the launch games are cheaper).
I could have been tempted to get a ps5 though since I've saved money last year with no holiday and no nights out. Bought a new telly so would like a ps5 since my ps4 isn't even a pro (no UHD gaming for me). So if buying one had been easy I probably would have caved.
Is the next version likely to come with more storage? That could be another thing worth waiting for.
I did not get one, but want one.
The problem is raw materials to make the chips for Sony to purchase to build PS5s. Most chip companies had enough raw material stock to weather most of 2020, while at the same time those raw material producers got slammed by pandemic. The raw material flow slowed to a trickle. Now entering 2021, both Sony and Microsoft are dealing with chip shortages and chip price increases. Infineon is reporting 52 week lead times. They list Sony PS as a consumer of their chips.
I see people believing that both companies are withholding stock of the consoles. It's not that. They can't get enough stock of the components necessary to produce in massive quantities. The lead times are atrocious.
Then dovetail in vaccine production and the electronic tools necessary to deliver. Who do you think it is getting the priority on any components right now?
I say 2022 we will begin to see both consoles more readily. Hang in there folks!
@wiiware Yea I think the lines are being blurred more and more with generations now.
The pure resolution bump isnt as obvious as before thanks to checkerboarding being pretty good in the first place last gen.
The main system sellers for me so far has been the quick load times, improved framerates - I half expect them to drop back to 30 when graphics are being pushed to be honest and the adaptive triggers.
The sheer speed of the SSD is like going back to cartridge based games again.
Astro's playroom is an easy platinum, brilliant game though.
Hopefully we get a full version some point in the future.
@3aje6aoBek haha you're a funny one. And I'm not even American, nor British. ^^
Got mine at launch, i was really lucky. I dont think they will be readily available till later this year.
This is really bad news and will end in many PS5 only games being delayed as developers wait for the numbers of consoles to increase.
No new PlayStation for me. I’ve said this before however...
I was extremely lucky. Was refreshing preorders at Smyths. Managed to lock one in, but when I put in all my card details it kicked me out, so I gave up.... and then a few mins later I received an email confirmation. Was so shocked!
Got mine at launch (UK) and I love it, feel extremely lucky and at the same time feel really sorry for the true gamers who are struggling due to scalpers
@Mostik
Totally agree, governments should get involved and pass laws banning scalping and bots
Real fans have one 😎
I am joking, I know how hard it is to have one lol
I have a PS5 and Series X and only realised last month or so just how lucky I was to get in there.
Scalping is a global issue that needs to be tackled. UK government looking at it but really Sony and MS should be the ones stepping in and offering a solution to retailers.
@Jaxx420 I'd agree that Sony and MS should have a system in place to prioritise customers however expect that to come at a price premium for the manufacturers to setup storefronts etc (users with active PS Plus get priority?)
Ultimately though the reason there's scalpers is because there's idiots willing to pay the premium to get it at inflated prices.
There's nothing Sony etc can do if I can buy one normal price, sell it to CEX for 800 quid then some idiot comes in buys it for close to 1k.
@grimwood - for the faster loading times, higher framerate for a start. Thats why lots of people have bought it now.
I got one at launch. I guess it was actually easier than getting one later (as long as you decided you'd pre-order as soon as the pre-orders started). I'm sure the PS4 is still a great place to play new games and there's not much you'd need a PS5 for but the better performance, super fast loading, low noise level and the DualSense make it a worthy upgrade IMO - and the true PS5 games will be coming soon.
@solocapers I really hope we still get 60 fps option in games, I'm okay with less resolutions and RT, maybe some middle ground like spidey miles morales 1440p + 60 fps + RT mode. And yeah, ps5 loading time is super nice, it's like I'm playing snes cartridge again 😃
@wiiware Yea, hopefully we do.
Spiderman is a good case point on how to give the user options. I cant really tell the difference between the performance RT mode and the locked 30 RT mode and so as far as im concerned 30 can get in the bin.
Hi there fellow gamers.
Like some of you, I was lucky to get my PS5 at launch day, November 19th.
I am still amazed how good the system is as well as the Dualsense.
The fast loadings, the quietness of the fan, the smooth framerate, the better performance of PS4 games and the haptic feedback with the adaptive trigers do make a real change in all the games I have currently at the moment.
Every time I play on my PC nowadays, the controller experience feels a little bland somehow.
It is that different. At least for me, that is.
Hope everyone will eventualy get their hands on their precious and enjoy it as much as I have and very much will continue to.
PS5 has a bright future ahead and I cannot wait to experience the next awesome games being made for the system.
Cheers, stay safe out there and happy gaming to us all
Im done with this and I'm gonna take my time getting a PS5 no rush getting it any more. Scalpers made me care way less im not going too jump through hoops for anything anyway.
Nope, don't have one and at the moment I see zero reason on why I would want one. Needs exclusive RPGs, SRPGs and Fighting games before I start to care in any sort of way.
no but ill get one down the line, im not up for being awake at 3am to try order a console that right now has no games that im desperate to play. its nice that it runs PS4 games better but its not a reason to upgrade for me personally, I really need something thats only on PS5 before I jump in.
I got 3 and it was because I spent the whole launch day flipping between tabs and refreshing, battling against slow or crashing pages.
1 was Amazon, which was stolen. Then I made a preorder with Tesco for 2 (me and my partner) and both were ready for collection without a hitch at the specified time, 2 weeks later. The Amazon one's replacement arrived after that but at that point I had no need for it and sold it off. It got 'lost' in transit again (!) but luckily I had full insurance on it, which they will pay out in the coming weeks. Stressful does not even begin to cover how all of this has been for me.
Nope. Had one pre-ordered, but wasn't guaranteed one for launch day and was informed shortly before launch that I wouldn't be getting one. I actually cancelled the pre-order some time between the US and UK launch, as there's nothing on it yet that I want to play.
For me personally, it was a disappointing launch line-up, and whatever improvements it may offer, I'm not going to buy one just to play my PS4 games when my Pro plays them perfectly well. Don't get me wrong, I'd play them on it if I had one and some PS5 games I wanted to play, but I'm not going to get one (even if I could) just to play them.
I'll pick one up at some point. I was thinking maybe around March, but it may be later than that. I've got a PS4 backlog and a PC to keep me occupied until then.
A nightmare was their on launch night at amazon and game uk game froze up just after midnight and amazon only had stockx and scalpers selling them.
2nd wave missed out got to game checkout only to have nothing i the cart.
Last week 3rd wave waited 2hours game checkout line only to get to the checkout and nothing was in the cart they had all sold-out.
Not yet, keeping an eye out for one but not overly fussed until theres some games for it
@solocapers It's possible, although rather inconvenient for them to set up so you have to register the console to a specific user in under to unlock it - this would kill scalping off.
The downside you have then - it kills the preowned market unless an alternative can be found, so it's incredibly difficult. But it is one idea.
Just tried yesterday at Playstation direct. Was in a que for 30 minutes. Then my turn popped up. Sold out. I have alerts on my phone for the big retailers too, but bots or others are winning out. Getting frustrating.
@RR529 But there is, the last one. Unless they added it later.
@andreoni79 It's definitely not the latter — there's no good reason for Sony to secretly hold back its own product. At this point I think there's just a strain on production in general. The logistics of having to manufacture thousands of consoles and then ship them worldwide must still be a nightmare because of the virus.
If there was a more specific problem, I think we would have heard about it in reports. Unfortunately we're probably just going to have to wait for everything to smooth out over time.
Hoping i can get one for my next birthday in may. I wonder if by then they'll be more available or god forbid cheaper?
I want one very badly, but I've given up all hope. You just can't beat the bots. I went online every day for months and it got me nowhere. I'm resigned to just waiting until they're available in physical stores now.
Sony needs to step up the production and also distribution. I'd love to buy a PS5 from Sony directly, tied to my PSN account for example.
@Bartig
totally agree, they partnered with 2 of the big retailers here, who were already sold out ages ago due to preorders on release day
@BeardtasticYogi Me too! so hyped but i do feel for those who still cant get it
I was accidentally on a website where it was available for pre order so couldve been lucky but I decided not to buy it. I can easily wait at least another year. It doesnt feel like the ps3 to ps4 transition where new games would barely run on the older hardware. Cyberpunk is an exception so far
I don't, and it's not like I don't want it. It's just unusable for me.
I actually had mine delivered last night at around 19:20 as my darling, long suffering wife had secretly secured one from argos and to say i was surprised goes without saying..simple to set up and took less than an hour to transfer everything..awesome console..
I won a PS5 that was delivered on Christmas Eve. Otherwise, I would be in the "I can wait" category. Like, it's nice for what it is, but I wouldn't go pay scalper prices to play 5 hours of Miles Morales (When you can get largely the same experience on PS4).
@Grimwood that's a fake fan in my books lol
Also, you have Demon's Souls, so you already have a masterpiece exclusive
I very nearly didn't pre-order a PS5 but the urge to play Demon's Souls was too much so I caved and managed to snag a pre-order in early October. Absolutely love it so I'm definitely feeling pretty lucky with the situation that there is now. Really hope everyone that wants one can get them for normal prices soon.
Got one launch day but from a nice enough guy on e bay. Paid £550 (I was happy to pay the extra £100 as knew I wouldn’t get one for absolutely ages).
Don’t regret it for a second and thoroughly looking forward to all the games coming out for it this year.
There's no real reason to buy this consoles yet. You can play all new releases on PS4 or PC. The only important exception is Demons Souls.
And the next exclusive game coming is a piece of garbage, so there's no rush.
@wiiware My bad as I've not been back to Astro yet after trying it out. I really need to get on that.
I managed to get one around the second week of December (I think, whole thing is a blur) on the last day that the website Brickseek could reliably be used to see stock at local Wal-Marts here in the US. What a debacle the whole thing was. Wal-Marts across the country were breaking company policy of being 'online only' and hundreds were lining up before they'd open. I'd go to a store and there'd be signs everywhere that it wasn't sold in-store. Hours later, someone would post pics of crowds on twitter and people walking out with PS5s from the very store I was just at. I checked Brickseek mid-day on a Sunday and just said screw it and drove 30 min. Was second in line and we were told they had none. The guy in front of me pulled out the brickseek page he had printed and had the electronics worker scan the barcode and then asked to speak to the manager. We were told they were on a truck and that it would be hours before they were unloaded. We said we'd wait. A few minutes later the line was across the store, all from people watching the stock online. 90 minutes later I was walking out with it. The next day, Wal-Mart was no longer showing their stock of PS5 on Brickseek. There's no way I'd have one otherwise. I struck out on so many PS Direct drops and various other drops and lost a lot of sleep in that time.
Edit - And was it worth it? 100% I hadn't played a game on Playstation since the PS2 days and immediatly sunk hours into so many great titles I'd missed out on!
