Bloodborne may yet get a full PlayStation 5 remaster – at least, that’s what we’ve predicted – but who fancies a PS1 demake? Talented indie developer Lilith Walther is working on exactly that, and she’s been sharing footage of the old-school revamp on her Twitter account:
Unlike many of these PS1 inspired demakes, this one really does look like the real deal – it reminds us of Nightmare Creatures with its chunky visuals and ancient textures. Our only real complaint is that the framerate is far too smooth, because we all know Bloodborne tends to chug.
Oh, wait – you thought we were saying the framerate is far too smooth because it’s meant to be a PS1 demake? Well, yes, that’s true, too!

It Kinda Looks More Like Kings Field Then Bloodborne But That Just Me.
@Areus That's extremely ironic considering Bloodborne was developed by FromSoftware. Maybe it was actually intentional
@TheFrenchiestFry @Areus I dunno, there aren’t enough spikes randomly flying out of walls sending you back to a save point 2 hours ago. King’s Field is barely playable these days.
@nessisonett True. It's also not first person, nor does it have enemies that look like the lovechild of Pirahna Plant and an actual venus flytrap
Dead or alive (probably dead), your coming with me
@TheFrenchiestFry that explains why I never got far in it lol
getting that nightmare creatures vibe =)
Oh man, I adore this! Hopefully it sees a sneaky-ninja-stealth release.
There was a Mega Man 2 Atari Demake for PC that's free and easy to find. It's excellent, and actually makes a few clever, slight gameplay changes.
NINJA APPROVED
I've been playing video games since the early 80s and frankly, I have no nostalgia for this early 3D era. These terrible games are the reason I (almost) fell out of gaming at the time.
Yes, in 1995, this looked revolutionary to our unprepared eyes and brain. But in 2021, trying to play a game from that time is just self torture. And making a "new" game like that is really a masochistic endeavor.
Sometimes, you just have to accept that early 3D era was mostly terrible, in terms of graphics, performance and gameplay. I'm glad it happened and that devs insisted on that route, since it made possible the gorgeous games we have today, but damn I won't go back to these games for any reason...
@Olmaz while fun to watch this I absolutely agree. There are very few Psone games that I still consider remotely playable and anything pre NES is guaranteed no fun.
@Papasears
Indeed. Man totally forgot about the game. But back then I really loved Nightmare Creatures.
I loved nightmare creatures on the PS1.
This looks like the first doom without a 3d graphics card. No thanks.
@Bliquid Oh don't get me wrong, I have a few 3D games that evokes very sweet memories from the PS1 era : Final Fantasy IX, Tomb Raider, WipeOut, Resident Evil and a few more...
But even these games I wouldn't really play anymore. Once a year, I would launch them, reminisce a few minutes, and then just feel really happy we got to where we are today...
(Note : some of them, the less 3D ones especially like FF9 or Resident Evil, I would enjoy a bit more their "remastered" version with quality of life improvements)
First thing I thought of was Nightmare Creatures. Wasn't that getting a reboot/remake?
An admirable effort but don't think I could play this for more than 2 minutes. I find nostalgia in 2D sprite-based games but PS1 gen polygons look horrendous and age terribly. Actually makes me hope for a Nightmare Creatures remake. That game wasn't meant for old hardware just like Bloodborne wasn't.
@BrotherFilmriss id love to see a remaster, bluepoint where u guys at =)
@Olmaz
I agree. Most have aged terribly.
I do think Square’s JRPGs with 3D engines have aged better than the more action oriented titles, though. I can still play Chrono Cross and enjoy it.
With that said, that’s a game that really deserves a FFVIII styled remaster. Come on Square Enix. Now that the PS1 FF games are done get to work on Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story.
