Upcoming remaster NieR Replicant just got nine uncut minutes of 'Barren Temple' gameplay, which showcases some character dialogue, exploration, and combat. The latter has been reworked quite extensively for this re-release, by the way, and it's looking especially sharp in the video.
NieR Replicant is still set to launch for PS4 on the 23rd April, so it's not too far off. To recap, this is a gameplay-enhanced remaster of the original NieR Replicant, which was only released in Japan on PS3. In the West, we got NieR, where you played as a much more rugged protagonist.

Still over 2 months to wait...aaaah
I can't WAIT for this! My most anticipated game this year - I'm hoping I'm going to love it as much as I love automata!
Really loved Automata, can't wait to finally play this one
Nice! I preordered yesterday funnily enough. I’ll miss 2B butt (lol) hopefully this is as cool as Automata. I bet it isn’t though.
I'm fine with the minimal graphical overhaul this has received. I recall the OG version looking quite muddy and fuzzy at times, this basically cleans that up and gets rid of it (taken to the NIERby car wash), pumps it up to 60 fps, makes battles feel snappier like Automata, and adds parry too!
I can hear it already...and i quote "yea you play it for the story and action but i can SEE the other reason BEHIND why?" I laugh to myself and say hmmmmmm...Youtube OSNSG🤘😝
Might be the only game I buy day one this year.
NieR Automata is in my top 3 of last gen, can't wait to try Replicant !
Watched the entirety of this video and just nodded the whole time.
Very excited about this.
I enjoyed Automata but did not pick it up till it was on a deep sale. I will not wait this time.
just finished automata a second time. Amazing game!
I am currently playing the original Nier on my PS3, just to get ready for this version which never made it out of Japan. It is my first playthrough of the game, as i have had it for years shrink-wrapped, part of my backlog. Really happy Weiss is the same voice actor, as he is amazing.
I am holding out hoping that Square Enix can produce more of the white snow editions. If any more become available I will per order the game.
Can't wait. I held off on nier automata for a chance to get to play this 1st to understand all the references lol. So glad its finally gonna pay off
It's probably too early, but is there any word of a NieR Gestalt remaster? It feels a bit weird to play all those game in anti-chronological order.
So how different is this to the original nier that released in the west
@DualshockInfinit couple of more times to go.
It is looking sharp👌 I'm having that feeling of sorta getting excited here!
@Royalblues If it is any consolation finishing Nier automata once won’t tell you what is going on or give you the “real” ending. You have to finish it like 5 times to finish the story.
Has anyone played the original? Isn't it supposed to be not very good? I seem to recall that everyone was surprised that Automata was good because the game before wasn't.
@UltimateOtaku91 - The only difference between Gestalt and Replicant is the player character. Japan got a young Nier who is Yonah's brother and we got an older Nier who's her father.
Apart from some minor dialogue changes to reflect the different relationship, the game is identical in every other way.
@Rhaoulos There won't be any. NieR Gestalt (US) = NieR Replicant (JP)
@Royalblues It's nothing like that, kinda. Telling you would ruin the experience for you. Let's just say that THE END doesn't exactly is the end of the game and its storyline itself.
Nier Automata was so good, so I'm up for this.
Oooh, doesn't look good! Was wait g for this! Looks terrible!
@Royalblues Not like that at all it's almost like it makes those 5 playthroughs (A, B, C, D, E endings) into one longer game. It adds so much to the story and characters and in my opinion it doesn't waste your time at all. Also they aren't all the same playtime so it's not near as bad as it sounds.
@Royalblues well, when you start NG+ you play as 9S. Then next time as yet again someone else. You keep seeing the story from different viewpoints and it reveals more and changes everything. It is actually really smart.
@SilenceCZ I thought they were 2 completely different games but I looked it up and it seems they are just 2 flavours of the same game. Not sure if you need to play both to understand the convoluted storyline.
One correction though, Japan had both games. Gestalt on Xbox360 and Replicant on PS3
@Rhaoulos you don't need to play both. It's kinda like the 2 versions of a pokemon game except the differences here are even more minimal in that you just play a different character so the dialogue gets small changes as a result but nothing major
And apparently a few music tracks are exclusive to each version but i suppose there's always youtube for that
Has that same dreamy feel that Automata had, I like that. That said, it did seem like a lot of pointless running through empty hallways.
I loved Automata, I'll buy this for sure. The combat looks fun.
I don't get it. looked kinda unexciting to me.
Ahh, I remember that boss fight. An enjoyable one indeed. I still miss old man Nier, was very refreshing for a JRPG. Never mind!
@KippDynamite The game was fine, it just had dull combat. This version is amending that by adding the improvements to Automata back into the original.
Original Nier on the PS3 still is one of my all time favourite games. Played all the endings and loved every minute. Always wanted to play it again so can't wait.
@Judal27 Thanks for the info. It makes it even stranger not to include both characters in the remaster if it's minor differences. Who knows, maybe Gestalt will be the PS5 version or sold as a dlc.
@Mega-Gazz...... I played the demo OF Nier Automata, the game is almost Souls borne like but lost interest when I found out you have beat the game 5 times to get the proper complete enending.
Why do you need to play through the game 5 times, and is it the same game play through the 5 play through sessions?
@GREGORIAN you don’t need to play through the game 5 times. You don’t even need to play through the same game twice. I don’t understand who is telling people this stuff without including the rest of the information lol. The game has an unconventional structure, but that’s it.
@GREGORIAN I answered that question above. See #27.
Gameplay and combat looks great, but will probably wait for $20 sale in a few years. I own Automata but have never played it XD.
