What a wonderful week it was for video game news – sure, there were highs and lows, but at least the industry felt alive for a little while. We’ll take the ups and downs over the lifeless corpse that our pastime has felt like these past few weeks.
Sammy Barker, Editor
I’ve decided not to start any new games until Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches next week, which I’m really looking forward to. As such, I’ll be killing time with my usual favourites, and checking out the new content in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

ONRUSH is a £2.15 bargain with PS Plus Double Discounts, so I plan to read Push Square's review, because I need to query my pre-conceived notion that it's lacking offline single-player modes. Then again, 76% off an arcade racer with links to the Evolution team – for less than the price of a vanilla latte – is a no-brainer.
A short but sweet WAYP this week, then, but this is what we’re playing. What’s keeping you occupied right now? As always, let us know in the comments section below.

The Last Tinker on PS4 & Cattails on Switch
Dragon Quest XI S on Switch. It is absolutely fantastic so far, just hope that I don't bored of it because of it's length!
Ff12 aiming to beat more hunts and espers. Maybe my 2nd playthrough of the Witcher 3 after.
AC Valhalla and Red Dead Online. Both are vast gorgeous open worlds but the latter just does it all so much better.
Solo outbreak for me. It needs balancing out for single player but it's a lot of fun.

I'm playing a hand full of games this weeked.
Xbox 1: Outriders Demo and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard along with Madden 2021 and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2
PlayStation 4: Little Nightmares 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Nintendo Switch: Animal Crossing New Horzions, 3D Mario All-Stars.
Happy gaming all.
Nba2k21 myteam continued grind of this season. One win away from Nick Van Exel Amethyst.
Spider-man 2018 as well, but tbh I am not enjoying it for whatever reason. Not a fan of comics, marvels, all the above. Perhaps that's why lol.
Sega Genesis Collection on PC
Tomb Raider 2013 on PC
Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4
Hoping to get in a bit of Snowrunner on PS4 as well.
I'm playing The Last Guardian - sweet game even if the controls are a chore sometimes. Just got a trophy too - which means I will have at least 2 by the time I beat the game (I looked at the trophy list and there's no way I'll be actively trying to get any of them lol).
Other than that - I'm gonna lose a bunch in Kombat League again
Mainly Persona 5 Strikers and loving it! Great little sequel its turning out to be. Also some more on Metal Gear Solid 2. Have a good one folks!
Bravely Default 2 for me, enjoying it so far.
Going to finish rachet and clank this weekend, and then going to start Nier afterwards. And maybe some cod in-between. Enjoying ratchet and clank think it was just what I needed after a little slump in knowing what to play starting old games and stopped playing after a day or so. Always seems to happen around Jan to march.
I’m 80 hours into AC Valhalla and I’m mostly really enjoying it. I’ve taken a few breaks and played other games in between but I’ll be aiming to put some more time in this weekend.
Is onrush still active online?
Playing more of the pathless and some more thief simulator for buggy fun.
Playing a metroidvania game, time spinner on ps5, I played it on gamepass pc but it's out of rotation before I finished it so I bought it on psn discounted (at $10) a couple of days ago. I really enjoyed it, I don't like the art at first but now I don't have problem with it. The story is really interesting, it's a time travel story about a clan that guarding a time jump device from an evil empire. Good stuff.
Still playing jedi fo, it's kind of annoying there's unbeatable boss fight in the game that pretend it's an actual boss fight, if it's unbeatable boss fight, just put it on cut-scenes and don't waste my time tricking me making it looks like an actual hard boss fight (god of war valkyrie does it right). The fight itself is really good, I want it to be an actual boss fight.
Finished the main story of Ghost of Tsushima so trying to drag some fun out of Shadow of War and started Concrete Genie. The latter is a nice little game, a welcome change of pace.
Ghost is a very good game, enjoyed the combat, Jin is an engaging protagonist, the story is decent and it is of course a very beautiful world to explore. I dipped into the Legends mode yesterday and might give it a further go as I don't feel ready yet to completely let go of the game.
Enjoy your weekend people, whatever you choose to play and do. Spring is getting closer and so is the end of Lockdown. Fingers crossed for that and also for a much needed three points for the mighty Spurs!
Fenyx Rising for today, I'm ready to start the final mission so just doing some clean up before I get to the credit roll. Fun game, a bit repetitive like all Ubi games but I've enjoyed it.
Tomorrow is a PS3 day, I'm closing in on the Gran Turismo 6 plat so a few hours on that and then some El Shaddai. Have a good weekend all!
Hitman 3, going to check out the legacy elusive target that's appeared. Also playing some Rayman Legends and Super Mario Galaxy, and was going to start playing Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls later.
Currently have State of Mind and Lego Ninjago on the go, not sure what else I'll be playing just yet.
Just finished Fenyx Rising, and I agree with Shigurui’s comment above mine: really good game, really repetitive by the end.
Today I am going to start Star Wars: Squadrons to see if it scratches the itch for more Tie Fighter/X-Wing I have had for 30 years.
Still picking away at Nioh 2, Ys monsnox and Katamari damacy reroll. Along with a offline round or two of everybody’s golf, would be doing the daily online tournaments but the server started having problems on Thursday night and have been down all day Friday, hopefully it gets fixed so I can go back to Invading the personal space of tiny headed anime characters.
Just got the platinum in Horizon (at last...) and I can't choose between Sackboy, God of War, The Last of Us II, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Demon's Souls. Tough choice.
Xbox - RDR2. Finished the medium, hoping for a new silent hill.
Playstation - Spider-Man remastered.
Nintendo - Diablo 3. Just starting, and not sure I understand the appeal of this genre.
Looking forward to playing sackboys big adventure after the awful outriders demo
Still Demon's Souls.
I said I'd get the plat last weekend, but I only ended up getting 3 out of 4 remaining trophies. I'm definitely getting that last trophy this weekend.
@LittleToyTitan First world problems.
😉
Some great games there, maybe follow up HZD with something different. Sackboy and/or Demon's Souls and then tackle one of the remaining behemoths.
@gamiller1978 what’s State of Mind like? It’s super cheap at the moment....
Might pick up 'Ghost of Tsushima' is it worth getting?
Decided to replay GTA III almost twenty years on, for what will hopefully be my fiftieth platinum. Enjoying it very much. I'll be damned if I can get the Dodo off the ground for more than three seconds. Clue's in the name I guess.
@JamieO Onrush can indeed be played solo and it's good fun too, if a little repetitive towards the end of the campaign. Can't really fault it for two quid. @Poskito I dipped into the online a few weeks back and there were still people on there. The game seems to fill the gaps with AI competitors, so you can still get a decent race even if there's a shortage of actual human beings to play against.
@Col_McCafferty Thanks for the advice. I have a few busy weeks ahead of me, so I'll think I'll go for Sackboy. Seems like a game that can be enjoyed in short bursts.
@Joshua2255 If you'd like a beautiful open world cinematic experience with captivating stories and characters with extremely tight gameplay and free multiplayer component better than most live service games then yeah I'd say it's worth it haha
Finished Ghost of Tsushima last night so not sure what’s next. Possibly Death Stranding, or maybe a break until FF7R drops.
Having now played both TLoU2 and GoT, I’m firmly in the TLoU2 camp re game of the generation. There’s lots about GoT I enjoyed - fantastic art direction, and the wind mechanic is such an ingenious solution to staring at waypoint lines - but ultimately it was just another open world, with the same old structure and an overlong runtime. Whereas TLoU2 had impeccable mechanics, outstanding art direction, and a narrative and structure unique to games in its ability to truly engage with the player’s conscience and psychology.
Them’s my 2 cents.
I'm having a bit of a retro weekend myself gonna be playing Metal Gear Solid 2-4 for the first times thru Playstation Now and playing the original FF7 on my switch. Happy gaming!
@Joshua2255 I'd say Yes, Absolutely but it kind of depends on what sort of games you like. If you enjoy open world games then go for it, if you don't then perhaps it's not for you.
Well, I was planning a weekend of mopping up some of the map in Valhalla and making a start on the battle pass on Cold War. But Yakuza - Like a Dragon just dropped through the letterbox which I wasn't expecting until Tuesday, so I've just installed and started that! I'm buzzing 😂
@TraCuz- ok thank you. I have a ps5 and missed getting it on PS4. I'll pick it up. It does look great. I have a week off work coming up so I'll be able to sink some decent hours into it as well.
Hi there fellow gamers.
I´ve been feeling a little hollow ever since the Guilty Gear Strive beta finished(I seriously got addicted to that game and can´t wait for April 9th), I´m going to just play one or two games this weekend:
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
Having to put my copy of Persona 5 Strikers on the shelf until I finish Immortal Fenyx Rising was no easy task, but I have to finish what I started before moving onto something new.
So I'll be continuing Immortal Fenyx Rising. Been having a blast so far. Might also jump into VR over the weekend and play either Jet Island or more Half-Life Alyx mods.
Still trying to platinum Immortals Fenyx Rising.
Responding to Jamie, Onrush is a really good game.
@HUMPERDOO Same, finished GoT last night. Really enjoyed it but I tend to agree, as good as it is The Last of Us Part II is, for me anyway, clearly the better game. As far as open world Sony games go I'd also rate Horizon Zero Dawn above Ghost.
It's definitely worth playing though, of that there is no doubt.
Ghosts n' Goblins Resurrection has been handing me my backside for the past two days...and it's almost exactly the game I was hoping it would be.
No games on ps I'm actually planning on playing this weekend! Playing animal crossing instead!
Got sucked back into Divison 2, finished the campaign and took a break a while back. Updated to the PS5 4K 60fps and checked it out, it makes a stunning looking game even more amazing. Also playing the game that keeps on giving, Borderlands 3. Started Valhalla, 12 hours in and not sure how I feel. Seems like raid after raid but now that some of the extra mechanics are opening up, it’s getting a bit more interesting. Need to try that Fuser demo.
My weekend will consist of:
2 hours on Immortals Fenix Rising,
1 or 2 hours on Persona Strikers,
1 hour on Sakuna Of Rice And Ruin,
Probably about an hour on Story of Seasons Friends Of MIneral Town..
and 10 mins (if that) on Animal Crossing.
Having a break from godfall and division 2..playing mortal shell which is very good but its a tough game and playing the outriders demo which is turning out to be quite nice..
Up to Yakuza 4 now. Part 3. Must say I’m not liking it as much as the previous 4, but hoping the various plot lines come together at the end.
I have finished pretty much all my backlog now. Completed Miles Morales during the week - was a little disappointed, thought the original was much better. Considering replaying Resident Evil from 0 through 7 before 8 comes out
Carrying on with Xenoblade Chronicles X on WiiU, one of the best JRPGs ever, and it's huge to boot.
Will also be starting Star Wars Squadrons as it looks great, and I'm expecting to get my arse handed to me online lol
Also the utterly addictive Football Manager 2021 trying to get Grimsby Town outta league 2 and it's harder than Dark Souls lol
Have a good weekend guys ♥️♥️
@Col_McCafferty Spurs aren't looking so mighty these days .... I know your pain, I'm a Gooner 😉!
@KingPev Ha, yeah I know. I was being ironic.
I'm only shocked that we're still above you in the table, your lot must be truly bad to be below us.
😉
Oh well, there's still the EL to play for and the little matter of Man City in the League Cup Final.
😒
@Col_McCafferty Yeah, absolutely. It's definitely worth playing. Niggles about seeing it all before aside, it certainly does it all exceptionally well. The combat's satisfying in an Arkham-ish deceptively simple way, and the wind mechanic really is one of those things you can't believe someone hasn't done before. Funnily enough, seeing your profile pic, I've been playing Read Dead Online with mates at the same time as this, and the contrast between being glued to the hud to see where you're going and missing out on the passing scenery, and the freedom of just following GoT's gusts and soaking in the landscape was such a 'quality of life' improvement.
@HUMPERDOO With RDR2 once you learn the map you can turn it off and just follow the lay of the land, recognising certian landmarks, even trees, to help you on your way. Heck of in doubt just follow the train tracks!
At least with RDR2 you can quickly bring up the map by pressing down on the D-Pad when you are lost.
Ghost is full of some wonderful little moments (haiku's, following birds/foxes, the animated short before each Mythic Tale) but perhaps there are too many of these and naturally over time they lose some of their appeal. Still, it's a very good game though and one I thoroughly enjoyed throughout most of its running time.
Finishing off my second play through of Resident Evil 2 with Claire on hardcore. Great game, brings back memories of watching my older brother play the original on ps1.
Also picked up Oxenfree for 79p on the indie sale. Heard good things so looking forward to it.
Dirt 5 on Gamepass, couch co-op Tony Hawk, and some Animal Crossing
@Joshua2255 Dude you didn't mention you have a PS5! That's even more of a reason to play! It runs at a glorious 4k/60fps
Playing through the fifth palace as a pesky little Phantom Thief. When I take a break from stealing hearts, I’m think of starting The Outer Worlds, or maybe Dark Souls 3. Maybe neither, depending how well P5 holds my attention.
@frankmcma Dude you absolutely have to try that Fuser demo, I'm completely sold on it. I feel like it could be worth the full $60 but I got my hands full with a lot of games rn, so I'm gonna pick it up during holiday season when it's $20-$30. Or maybe it'll be a Playstation Plus game!!
@EverydayRobot That’s an absolute steal for Oxenfree. I bought it a couple years ago for like $12 and it was well worth it. I’ve been meaning to go back and get the platinum, but too many games, too little time.
@Th3solution Dude we got to get on a separate forum and talk about Persona because man xD it's so good. I too just made it to the 5th Palace.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Let me know how you like that one, I'm still on the fence. Although the 4k/60fps is enticing.
@Bundersvessel The new weapons are cool in Frozen Wilds!
In the mood for some fighting games. I’ll be getting in some Street Fighter V, Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters 2002 on PS4. Gotta squeeze in Yakuza Like a Dragon too.
@Col_McCafferty yeah I just accept that Arsenal are in that 'transition' period and will be for a long time, like Man Utd were. I think Spurs have to win EL this year or Kane and others will be gone ! Football eh ? 🙄
On PS4 the main game is Devil May Cry HD. I'm near the end of the game, and I was surprised at how much it held up. It doesn't feel as old as you'd expect from a 20 year old game.
On Switch I'm taking a break from Breath of the Wild and opened up Super Mario 3D All Stars. Mario 64 sadly feels old but I still enjoy playing it depending on the level.
Pokémon Blue Version (GB) - I just installed a new battery in this cart last night, so looking forward to starting a new adventure.
Wordament (Android) - Still playing mostly as night.
Fruit Ninja (Windows Phone) - Also mostly playing at night.
Assassins creed rogue as I'm going trew all the Assassins creed games and god of war in between
@Link41x Since you're a mobile gamer did those FF7 announcements excite you? Still getting used to the idea of an FF7 BR xD
Finished god of war last weekend. Decided I needed something light before getting into anything else. Played through journey, simple little game, I enjoyed. Then o dipped a bit more into the backlog, and started Aaru's awakening. Horrible frustrating game - I've binned it off. Played a little FIFA 21, and tonight I'm gonna start on Dirt 5.
Happy gaming everyone!!
@DerMeister My first DMC I ever played was 5, and couldn't believe how deep the combat is. I bought the first one on Switch and it surprised me how much its DNA has been there since day 1.
I am finally finishing Horizon Zero Dawn. Statistics say i have put 95 hours and i am 96% complete so I believe I am in the last stretch.
I will also complete the second game in the Phoenix Wright trilogy, Justice for All.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I agree. You have a great squad, Kane's far too good. Bale and Alli should start more often but Mourinho is so stubborn
Started Amnesia: AMFP a couple days ago, and will likely finish that up. It's not great but it's so short I might as well see it through. I know people love Amnesia, especially the first one, but I haven't really liked either one. I didn't like Justine either. I think a remake with better lighting, textures, and HDR implementation would go a long way to improve the experience, but I don't know, maybe it's just not for me. I don't really enjoy the gameplay anyway. I didn't really like Soma either.
On a more positive note, I finally started The Swapper last night (after getting tired of paying Amnesia), and so far it's been really interesting - I'm only 30 minutes or so in, but I'm excited to progress and see where the game goes, both mechanically and story-wise.
@TraCuz- Already downloaded...will do! It does look awesome
@TraCuz- I'm not really a big Final Fantasy guy myself, but that announcement was cool to see.
@Th3solution Yeah couldn't believe it was going for that price, bargain. Its a great sale on at the moment picked up Night In The Woods as well. Was tempted by a few others but the backlog seems to be only getting bigger.
Iconoclasts. Bought it on a whim the other day while it was on sale and have been enjoying it quite a bit.
@TraCuz- bought it I'll play it tomorrow.
Been playing curse of the dead gods all day
@EverydayRobot Oh man! Thanks for the heads up about Night in the Woods! I’ve been eying that one for ages, so maybe I need to get it. $10 is as cheap as it’s ever been. As far as Indies on sale, I’m also probably going to pick up Dear Esther for $2 in that 3 pack it’s in. I don’t care too much about the other two games in the pack but the collection is actually cheaper than the game by itself! Cheers, my friend.
Finished ballad of gay tony today. Luis Lopez is a great character and it's up there with hearts of stone and citadel as some of the best dlc I have played.
@Joshua2255 Yo man find me in the "What Ps4 games are you playing" forum and let know how you like it!
@R1spam Bro it's been so long but I remember that DLC being absolute fire
God Of War on PS5 for me at the moment, I think even now it might be the best looking game I’ve seen. Between that and TLOU2
I’ll be rebuilding the castle on Moonbrooke Island. God, I love this game.
@Mhoney Interesting story so far. Graphic style works well. Accessibility is alot better than most of these type of games, in that markers for things you can interact with are very clear, so I'm not spending walking around looking for prompts. Overall I'm enjoying it.
Had to initialise my PS4 last week, so lost a few saves... as such, probably play some more Turrican on PS4, or retro stuff on the Evercade.
Anyone here from the UK having problems trying to connect online on Call of Duty Col War? Are the servers down, if so is that for every other territory or just for the UK?
Thanks
Persona 5 Strikers for me. I’m nearing the end I think. I’ve been enjoying it.
Natsuki Chronicles on my PS4 pro !
Spider-Man remastered. I've had a PS5 since launch, but didn't get Miles Morales at the time, and never played the original on PS4. Finally cracked, and bought MM Ultimate. Still working through Spider-Man. It is outstanding!
Ass Creed Valhalla. Taking a break from Cyberpunk after a 140 hour first run through, but I will play it again with a different character type when I can eventually get hold of a PS5.
@Gremio108 and @Culjoseth – I read Push Square's ONRUSH review, and I listened to your advice by spending a few fun hours in ONRUSH's Superstar single-player, so cheers for both of your responses.
Like Gremio108 mentioned, I found a small element of repetition in its focus upon destroying drivers, as opposed to racing for a position. In this respect, the mode I'm enjoying the most so far is where you capture multiple zones, because it give a sense of achievement that you'd normally get from placing first in a traditional racer. Plus, it's appropriately called Lockdown Mode, which felt apt.
Thanks again, because I've had a blast so far, especially as it scratches that Evolution Studios MotorStorm dirt scrambling itch!
@Poskito and @Wormold — I popped into the Quick Play option of ONRUSH's online multiplayer early this Sunday morning, and I was surprised that it was more active online than I expected for a June 2018 release.
Working my way through Dark Souls 2. Next up is probably FFVII Remake now it’s on PS Plus
I'm wrapping up Nioh's base game... I bounced off it a few times around when it first came out but something 'clicked' on this latest attempt and now I'm considering going for Platinum.
I still have Astral Chain in its cellophane waiting to be started so I might finally jump on that as well
Also doing Blue Mage stuff in FFXIV!
@JamieO Yeah, the zone capture mode is good. It can get surprisingly tense on that deciding zone!
Well, not Everybody's Golf as thanks to the network out, you can't actually get onto any of the courses! Been going on since Friday. Not sure if it's only Sony games as things like ESO are running fine.
