While all eyes are on developer Firesprite’s next project – presumably it’s in production for Sony’s next-gen PlayStation VR headset, in light of recent news – the studio is giving its previous game another crack. Survival horror roguelike The Persistence first launched as a PlayStation VR exclusive, but was later updated so you could play in pancake mode on the PlayStation 4.
And now it’s coming to the PlayStation 5, later this year. “The Persistence Enhanced dials up the atmosphere and tension with improved lighting, UX enhancements, and raytraced rendering,” the developer explained. “Immersive haptic feedback is also supported with the DualSense controller on PS5.”
There’ll be a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for everyone who already owns the game, and there’ll also be a physical release for those who want a boxed copy. “We can't wait to show you the immersive features of The Persistence Enhanced, and how they create a truly spine-chilling new experience as you fight for survival,” a blog post concludes. “We'll have more details to share with you over the coming months.”

Happy days. I bought this just before Xmas and was pleasantly surprised with it. Better yet, there was an issue with the trophies not loading, and the team were happy and responsive in dealing with me (they eventually patched it) to resolve it.
Good people. Good game. Looking forward to shiny free upgrade. Win.
I thought that said resistance for a second and got excited.
I've heard this compared to a roguelike Dead Space and I've been intrigued. Glad to see the devs supporting it. Def want to snag this at some point.
@AhabSpampurse
Good to hear! What would you compare this game to?
@LordSteev I'm not sure. It's a solid roguelike, with a good narrative that explains and justifies the repeated changes on the decks.
So take any of your above standard roguelike's like Binding of Isaac, Hades etc, and the principles are similar.
This is slightly different though due to the FPS perspective, and survival horror elements. It's also a superb experience in both VR and on the normal telly.
Truth is I'm a sucker for roguelike games, and horror, so this was a sure thing for me. Pretty sure there's a demo on the store if you're keen though.
@AhabSpampurse Thanks!
Think I'll check it out. I love hearing about when a developer treats it's customers right, glad they were cool with you.
As fun as this game was on PSVR i can't help but feel this is going to be a shallow experience on the big screen.
@Bigtuna515 Hah I came to say the exact same thing.
