We last penned an article on Tales of Arise in December 2020, when Bandai Namco promised thirsty fans that the project was still progressing. In truth, it’s been over a year since we last saw fresh footage of the anticipated JRPG – but that changes today. As part of the Tales of Festival in Japan, the aforementioned publisher has released a brief 70-second teaser trailer, which confirms more news will follow in the Spring.
“Spring is just around the corner, and we’ve been working hard to make it unforgettable,” the YouTube blurb hints. “Catch the first new glimpse from Tales of Arise.” The game was originally due out last year, but like so many other games, was delayed due to complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic. It looks like it’s back on track now, though, and we’re eager to learn more about the release in the coming months.

@Grimwood Because people love JRPG games 😊
Oh nice! I don’t mind waiting for this, gives me time to finish both Symphonia games and Xillia 2.
@Grimwood That’s like complaining that sports games exist because you don’t like sports. There’s obviously a market for these types of games. The ‘Tales of’ games are some of my favourite games.
Heads up: Typo in title.
Cool, it's been ages since I last bought a Tales of game and I'm looking forward to this one.
I hope there will be a Next-Gen version too (or at least a Next-Gen patch like Ghost of Tsushima had) cause playing this game in 60fps and 4K (or a little bit lower) would be nice
@Grimwood How dare you say that, there the best 😏
The last good Tales of games I played was Tales of Hearts R. I loved Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Abyss, Tales of Graces and of course Tales of Vesperia... but cannot say the same about Xillia 1&2, Zestiria or Berseria.
Tales of Xillia had really easily forgotten story, Zestiria for me personaly was too boring to even finish (that's one of the few games I've never finished), Berseria was slightly better but still a huge miss.
In my opinion (<- an actual opinion not objective fact) there is something really bad happening in story department. I love jRPG genre but Tales is the very definition of series that is constantly using cliché of the cliché of several traits of jRPG system. Looking at heroine all I see is yet another Alisha.
Might play this but when it will become really cheap. I lost my trust in the series.
Nice, can't wait for this game, I hope it's better than my fav tales games, tales of vesperia
@Grimwood. One of the most horrible comments i ever heard.you make no sense.word up son
Previous games haven't looked all that interesting to me, but I'm really digging this. I'd love to see more games that pair an anime art style with clearly much higher production values.
Pretty high hopes for this one!
@Grimwood What do you play so i can ask why it exists? But too be a little more serious because there are more people in the world then you thats why.
I've been marathoning the tales series lately, trying to beat them all in time for Arise's release and damn this series is fun, I particularly enjoyed Xillia, Berseria and Symphonia, zestiria was a bit eh but it had its moments. Can't wait for Arise!
“Spring is just around the corner, and we’ve been working hard to make it unforgettable,”
Not to sound mean, but unless that's when the game actually release, please don't say that, because it won't be true. Considering we've literally seen nothing of this game, it's still definitely a year away at least.
@Grimwood why do you exist?
@nnp42 JPRG: Japanese Pole Raying Game. It probably has Raytracing!
@Phelan, while I'm not as harsh on the newer entries as you are, I do understand where you're coming from.
I liked that Abyss & Vesperia had some industrial/magitech elements, and I think Zestiria & Berseria were hurt by adopting a more standard medieval fantasy theme, and by doing away with the semi-fixed camera angles of the older titles in towns/dungeons (with Zestiria in particular it seemed like they didn't have the budget/experience to create compelling locations with full camera control in mind, with most of it's towns being dull & having a ton of copy & paste dungeons). Berseria was a big step back in the right direction though (better designed towns, improved dungeons, and much better character design), so hopefully Arise continues the upwards trend.
That little snippet was so interesting. I just wanna see if it'll still have party members and if that little black haired girl at the end of the other trailer is one of them
Just give us more info already T^T
Been waiting for this one since the first trailer, but it's been so long I forgot it even existed. There's a bright spot of news right there!
@Grimwood Why do games like TLoU even exist?
@ralizah You can't possibly mean you haven't played any tales games???!
@NEStalgia I tried a demo for Vesperia on my 360, like, ten years ago. That's the extent of my experience with the series.
@Ralizah If I remember correctly, the demo wasn’t that great. I recommend you give the game another try! It’s on sale for under £10 often enough. Vesperia is still regarded as the best game in the series by many.
I hope they're smart enough to make a ps5 release, The tales games are always behind the curve and launch of the last gen hardware, never the current, most of the time it seems anyway, I can't wait either way
@Grimwood Why do you even exist?
@Bentley-Ma- I've thought about it. I hear good things about Vesperia, but the combat system doesn't sit well with me. Still, with it going for, like, $12 in sales, it might be worth taking the plunge anyway.
@Ralizah That's shocking! The series is very uneven, though. When it's good, it's very good. Even it's mediocre, it's very mediocre. Vesperia isn't just the best of the series, it's one of the, I won't say best, I'll say most enjoyable JRPGs of all time. On a technical level it's nothing special, and it's loaded with anime tropes, but it's one of those times when all the tropes are done in such a way they come away as better than the sum of their parts. Combat is fun. Again it's not deep, it's not special, but it's enjoyable... Which is something often lost in persuit of technical achievement. Absolutely play it. If you loved Ys VIII, you'll love vesperia (it's also on switch, so...)
Abyss was phenomenal as well. Unfortunately the most modern system it can be played on is 3DS. I'd love to see a remaster, or even just a port.
Zesteria gets a lot of hate, but what I've played isn't so bad. I think I'm reality "It's not Vesperia" is the main complaint. Berseria is a step up though (again, haven't completed it.)
A new tales is great news indeed!
@Ralizah @NEStalgia I agree about Vesperia, it might not look like much on paper but somehow it all comes together to make for a really enjoyable game. That and Symphonia are the only ones I’ve played though.
@Grimwood
Don't worry I'm sure "Generic third person action/shooter 7" is in development as we speak so you can rate it a 10 on Metacritic.
I don’t know what this game is or what this articles about but I’m pretty drunk right now and wanted to tell you all I love this site and it’s why I’ve come here everyday for like 8 months now 👍

Weeeeebs assemble!
Just kidding. The last Tales game I played was Berseria and it seemed interesting enough but I wasn't fond of the combat.
@ScottyG
Hope the hangover is cured now my guy:p
Currently playing Tales of Berseria so im interested in the series now too.
@ApostateMage Yeah, the combat in Berseria single-handedly put me off the game. I've tried 3 times to get through it but just don't enjoy it. I much prefer the combat when it feels more like a fighting game, either kind of Street Fightery like in most of the Tales games, or kind of Soul Calibury like Graces. Berseria just felt like a weird mess where you had to keep remapping the buttons every battle to take advantage of enemy weaknesses.
@Matroska If I ever start a band I'm gonna name it Soul Calibury.
Yes!! Looking forward for a new tales!! Playing tales of berseria now and loving it. Tales of graces f on ps3 was the first tales game that did it for me and then symphonia and later vesperia on 360 realy made me love the series and it's Japanese quirkiness
I'm really hoping the delay was to have this play on next gen consoles, that'd be sweet!
