While the slate of brand new PlayStation 5 releases does admittedly look a little light, next-gen early adopters have tons to look forward to this month, as publishers load up on free PS4 to PS5 upgrades. The shiny re-releases start 2nd March with Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which was seemingly postponed on Sony’s new console due to marketing arrangements. But it’ll be followed on 4th March by Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition.
Then on 12th March, the excellent Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will get its anticipated PS5 makeover – some may argue, it’s about time. That’s part of an Activision one-two punch, with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 due out on 26th March – although it’s worth noting that you will need to pod out for an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition if you don’t own it already in order to be eligible for a “free” next-gen copy.
Sandwiching the aforementioned will be Marvel’s Avengers on 18th March, which is getting its PS5 port alongside a big Hawkeye expansion pack. So, in total five games are all getting re-releases this month, and aside from the Tony Hawk small-print, you’ll be eligible to download them all for free if you already own the games on the PS4. Which will you be revisiting? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'm most looking forward to the Terminator: Resistance free upgrade.
Yakuza isn’t a free upgrade, unfortunately.
Only interested in Last of Us 2 upgrade. Give me that sweet sweet ray tracing.
@Orochilocka Yes it is?
@Orochilocka What? It totally is. Or better be, since I just bought the PS4 version on Amazon in anticipation of the upgrade.
I thought metro exodus was due it's upgrade in March too, it was listed last year but mayge its been delayed?
@itsfoz FOR REAL !!! I mostly want it for 60fps gameplay. I'm actually waiting for a patch to do my cleanup runs for the platinum and 100%.I can't wait for a patch from TLOU2 but dam sony and ND been so quiet about it its concerning
I have the DE of Pro Skater so i'm good to go for the upgrade once i get a PS5, scummy that their charging for it though even if its included for DE owners.
@Hyperluminal Me too. I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned in this post, but then I realized it got delayed to April 30.
Doom Eternal when?
Yeah, Terminator was delayed, sadly.
@bpomber it has been? Gahh!
Sadly, my purchase of Yakuza: Like a Dragon has also been seemingly postponed due to arrangements my wallet has made with other things. Still, I hear nothing but good things about it so hopefully I’ll get my hands on it before long.
I thought Yakuza was only a free upgrade if you bought the digital one, if you've gone physical then you're out of luck
@Hyperluminal Yes. If anyone wants to see what it looks like check out Reefs Entertainments Twitch channel tomorrow for a long showing of game on PS5. I can't wait.
No I do not work for them.
@Dan_ozzzy189 I do believe it is March still.
I bought Yakuza in the Xmas sale and put 15 hours into it before deciding to wait for the PS5 version. Maybe I'm just a masochist but I'm looking forward to playing those 15 hours again
Also, I enjoyed Avengers for about 3-4 weeks on release (put 70-something hours into it) but apart from the Kate Bishop and Hawkeye stories, I doubt I'll be playing the PS5 version for long.
@LiamCroft AH! Free upgrade but no cross-save, which is probably why I wrote it off. 40 hours in and cannot start again.
@Deadhunter yeah, my mistake. Just don’t start it because there’s no cross save. Great for folk who are starting, a slap in the face for us who are half way through.
When is a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade not free? When Activision is involved.
@Stoffinator fingers crossed
@Nexozi except Crash is a free upgrade if you already own it.
@Hyperluminal i'm really thinking about playing that one...
Activision probably lost money by offering the DE for what they originally did. So by charging the non-DE consumers for the upgrade, this is their way of making back what they lost, by forcing a large chunk of them to buy it.
What did that DE even come with? 2 songs and a board? Lol FOH with that.
@Nexozi Actually Activision is giving Crash 4 as a free upgrade. Tony Hawk is also free if you got the Digital Deluxe version before.
I just wish as many developers as possible would release a quick patch to have an unlocked framerate mode at least, on PS4 games
I am hoping the mortal shell upgrade fixes that save erasing bug..still salty as hell about this and the devs dont seem to give a toss as its all over their forums and nothing has been addressed...waste of money...
@PSfan4Life22 @viciousarcanum OMG it was a joke.
🤔 well marvel avengers free on PlayStation+ will be the only way il play it 😂
@LiamCroft maybe slightly prophetic because it sure as hell ain’t working for me...
I'll be experiencing the upgrades for all of the games mentioned eventually (after BF 2021), but the first one will be Avengers since I already own it and have played thru a decent amount.
Then Tony Hawk, Mortal Shell, Crash 4, and finally Yakuza in that order.
