It’s been a long wait, but the turn-based Yakuza: Like a Dragon will finally make its move on PlayStation 5 this week. The game launched on the PlayStation 4 – and various other platforms – last year, but was delayed on Sony’s next-gen console, presumably due to marketing arrangements. Fortunately, those deals have now elapsed, and the title will finally throw a punch at PS5 from 2nd March.
There’ll be a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for existing owners of the title, but unfortunately there’s no save transfer functionality, so you’ll need to start over if you did already begin the game on Sony’s last-gen console. The release runs at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the PS5, so you can expect clean image quality and smooth performance across the board.
We really liked the RPG in our PS4 review, describing it as “crazy but captivating”: “At its core, this is still the Yakuza that we know and love, with shocking story beats and fantastic characters, but in embracing the structure of an old school RPG, it successfully branches the series off in a whole new direction.”
Will you be picking up Yakuza: Like a Dragon this week? Have you been waiting for the PS5 version before getting started, or did you already play through the game last year? Party up in the comments section below.

My copy is in the post. Its a shame not to have the steelbook, but at least its here.
Where has it been confirmed to run at 4k 60fps on PS5? The game doesn't have that setting on Series X, it's two separate settings, 4k/30 or 1080p/60 on Series X.
Shame it doesn't have save transfer but it's a great game.
@Medic_Alert I was just going to post that.
Sega’s Blog post says 1440p60 4k30 https://asiablog.sega.com/archives/17630
Currently playing this on PS4. Love the series so much but I won’t double dip on this game once I get a PS5.
@mousieone @MordmitTotschlag So it does actually run at a higher resolution at 60fps than on Series X? If so, another game that performs better on PS5 despite MS paying for exclusivity or brand association.
Nice. I'll be picking this one up. Was waiting for the PS5 version.
@Matroska well again Sega isn’t saying it runs at 4k60 on their own blog. Their saying it runs 4k30 and most other sites say the same thing, this is the only one reporting 4k60.
Edit: If it gets confirmed great but why wouldn’t Sega say so themselves?
Super excited for this next-gen Xbox console timed exclusive to finally hit the PS5 after 3 long months of wait.
About 8hrs in and loving it. Might be one of my favourite Yakuza's. Looking forward to digging into it more. The whole change to turn based combat is genius.
@MordmitTotschlag More than likely be upscale 4K at 60fps, Native 4K 30fps. Can't see Xbox paying for exclusive next gen rights only to be outdone again on PS5. But who knows PS5 so far has outperformed Series X on a number of games now. But nothing official from Sega yet.
I'm just about to start 4, well after a short break as I binged 0, 1, 2 and 3 over three weeks. Should be at Dragon: Like a Yakuza (credit if you get that joke) by end of year.
The moment I can actually find a ps5 to buy, this will be my first full price purchase.
My free upgrade from The PS4 version isn't showing up yet. Anyone else having this issue? I only seem to be able to buy it... again.
@Lorcansface Don't worry, seems to be the case for everyone right now. The option apparently shows up if you have it on disc, but not for the digital version. Hopefully fixed soon...
Got a call today from Gamestop that shipments are running late (apparently I'm the only one who pre-ordered the game at that store) so probably won't get it tomorrow. Whenever I do, though, looking forward to it. Don't love the change to turn-based gameplay but interested to see if I can get past that and enjoy it as much as past entries in the series.
@ShogunRok Thanks for the response! Yeah, I just had a Google and found a reddit thread dealing with the same issue. Hopefully it's to do with delayed rollout and it'll be here to upgrade later today. I have the digital version and can't wait to get into it!
