Nioh’s series sales have now surpassed five million units across PlayStation 5, PS4, and PC, with digital sales of Nioh 2 now topping two million units alone. The original Nioh launched in 2017 on PS4, before being ported to PC, and was subsequently followed by a sequel in 2020. Both games were then remastered for PS5 this year.
Team Ninja has indicated that it’d like to create a new intellectual property for Sony’s next-gen console, and writing on Twitter it hinted that fans should look forward to what’s next from the studio: “Please look forward to the next new title from Team Ninja.”

Both Nioh games are masterpieces.
Love this news. Nioh ❤️. I am so happy because hopefully we can get more Nioh in the future. My favorite new IP of the PS4 era.
@playstation1995 Sekiro? 🤣
Gotta give the games a go sooner or later.
Nioh 2 truly is action gaming bliss. Ultra polished and visually spectacular with tons of variety, great music and a quirky sense of humour. Congrats to Team Ninja.
@playstation1995 What, no love for Soul Sacrifice?
@KayOL77. Sekiro is made by same team.word up son
@NEStalgia. Soul sacrifice is good too.that game needs a ps4 or 5 remake word up son
These games do not get enough attention for the master class pieces of work they are. If you haven't played these games, you're doing yourself a disservice as a gamer.
Play it now.
I know they said they wanted to make a new ip but i hope they still make a 3rd game. It's severely underrated despite being so fun
Plus i really wanna see them expand on the yokai transformations and abilities. Theres a lot of fun potential in that
@NEStalgia Soul Sacrifice is structured more like a hunting game (as in, Monster Hunter-like), though.
@Ralizah True, but Demons Souls and MH aren't that dissimilar in that the focus is on being a boss battle rush/hunt. The approach is slightly different but they have more in common than not. Dark Souls branches out in map design more, but even then it's a sequential rush of bigger and harder enemies in mostly 1v1 fights, and the latest MH Rise takes notes from that in a sense with finding the camps (world did that to a degree too) that imitate finding shortcuts of dark souls. There's a lot of similarity in design, but from different focuses.
@NEStalgia The way they're designed and structured is entirely different, though. You wouldn't say Shadow of the Colossus is like Monster Hunter because both are about seeking out boss fights against large animals, right?
Dark Souls games aren't primarily oriented around hunting down and killing bosses. I mean, fighting bosses is an aspect of the experience, but so is exploring the inter-connected world and killing challenging enemies, whereas MH games land you in far smaller maps where you're tasked with completing a mission before being booted back to a hub world. Normal enemies exist, but they're pretty much always trash mobs that are barely able to hurt you.. If anything, Souls games have a closer kinship with something like Metroid Prime than Monster Hunter.
The biggest point of similarity between the two franchises is that both feature intricate, stamina-based combat that has a bit of a learning curve to it, but otherwise, they're not really anything alike.
@Ralizah True, well, sotc does have a lot in common with mh, structurally, except that battles are more of a platforming challenge than combat. But I get your point.
Demons Souls though isn't built on those complicated interconnected maps the way dark souls is though, so it has more in common with soul sacrifice. Nioh is dark souls through and through though. Except, you know, actually good...
@Amylian4Games I also still need to play the Nioh games...owned 1 on PS4 and was gonna buy 2, but then they announced PS5 remasters that don't have free upgrade options.
I'll pick up the Nioh PS5 Remaster Collection in a few years when it's $35 or cheaper.
