May 2021's PlayStation Plus games have been revealed. As per usual, subscribers get access to one PS5 title, and two PS4 games.
On PS5, we've got chaotic car-smashing sim Wreckfest. This is the PS5 version of the game, which originally released on PS4 in 2019. It's worth noting that you'll only be eligible to download the PS5 version of this game as part of your PS Plus subscription. Nevertheless, the upgrades should be make a massive difference to the experience, as our original PS4 Wreckfest review concluded:
If you’re looking to bring destruction and pandemonium to motorsports, Wreckfest will suit your needs to a tee. The experience is let down by technical grievances far too often, but what’s left after the fact is more than worth your time.
Then, on PS4, there's bombastic first-person shooter Battlefield V (which excels in multiplayer), and open world survival title Stranded Deep. This is what we had to say in our Battlefield V PS4 review back at launch:
Battlefield V is going to be a great game, of that we’re sure, but due to a number of glaring omissions at launch and one too many glitches, the final product isn’t there just yet. Series veterans are sure to feel at home with what’s on offer now, though, thanks to a solid multiplayer offering that sticks to the tried and true nature of what makes Battlefield tick.
So there you have it, three very different games make up May's PS Plus offering. All of them will be available to download starting from the 4th May — that's next Tuesday.

Somewhat decent month. Wreckfest is a good game and Battlefield V is worth a look, I guess.
Hmmmm. OK. Don't own any so thats always a plus.
Been looking for a good MP for a while so whilst not a huge Battlefield fan I'll definitely be downloading V.
Stranded Deep sounds like it could be quite fun so will add that to my library as well.
Decent month for me.
Meh, good month but I've got Wreckfest and the other two don't really interest me (I tried Stranded Deep and not a fan).
Roll on June!
Is wreckfest the updated version that was due out 1st of June?
I feel like wreckfest is a poor offering of a ps5 game as the ps4 version looks like a ps3 game.
I loved Wreckfest on the ps4. I will definitely play it again on ps5, when I can actually get my hands on one.
Survival - nope; online multiplayer shooter -hell no; smash em up racer - meh...
A big drop in interest this month for me.
But they did recently give me 10 free games so I’m not going to complain.
Meh would've played wreckfest if it was the PS4 version other 2 I'm not interested in
@MoorePs4 Apparently
@Voltan thanks, that's saved me £10 to upgrade then 😊
personally I think it's a decent month, in that these games don't too bad, but I wouldn't have bothered buying any of them. If I try them and they're fun, then that's a bonus, but I wouldn't consider any of these games to be "additions to the backlog" - which is good because the backlog is hefty enough already
Good month. Will definitely play thru Wreckfest again for a quick easy platinum and may get around to BFV sometime on a rainy day. I think it's a decent enough lineup!
Ok so that leak was true.i will definitely download battlefield 5.and stranded deep.not bad.word up son
Consider me VERY HAPPY with this selection.
Wreckfest I wanted to play and Battlefield I haven’t played since Xbox 360.
Will be adding these to my library ASAP.
Happy about Wreckfest because they were going to charge $10 for the upgrade.
Wreckfest is alright. My buddy got pretty into it, but personally it's not as much fun as I hoped it would be. Plenty of other games to play anyway!
Sweet was buying wreckfest on Saturday. Get in. Ps5 upgrade too. Happy days.
A good month for me. I played BFV quite a bit on XSX and really liked it. The others I'm not really interested in, but I'll give Wreckfest a spin.
60FPS Wreckfest with PS5 loading times! Based PS Plus!
@stu123 Sorry, Sony and refunds are two words that shouldn't be said together. Well at least your copy won't stop working even if your Plus runs out so there's that.
This is a good month for me. I already have wreckfest on PS4 but it will go nicely with destruction all-stars on my ps5. Battlefield I had but lost so I am happy to get it back for free and stranded deep was a game I considered buying so many times so.
Not an appealing month for me but with Returnal, RE: Village and Biomutant coming out I could do without other distractions... that being said I don’t know which game to go for first 🤔
@redd214
Is the platinum easy without a boost partner? Sometimes I play games and going for the platinum challenge is more fun than the in game challenge. Might be the case here, but not if I actually have to be social lol.
YAY! PS5 Wreckfest, loved the PS4 version and was happy to buy it again on PS5...no need now 🤠🤠
Honestly disliking that they double dip both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. Stranded Deep was one of the reasons why I want PlayStation Now and was waiting to re-subscribe to PlayStation Now when it goes on sale but doesn't look like I will be doing that anytime soon.
@redd214 Is the platinum really an easy one? Was tempted to give it a go but will definitely dive in if it is an easy platinum
@thefourfoldroot
I thoroughly enjoyed the Platinum on this and I don’t think it was too difficult
Another decent month.I don't own any of them.
Don't own any of these. Probably for a reason, lol.
The survival game seems to have gotten mediocre reviews. Maybe I'll try the sp campaign of Battlefield at some point. Never played one of those games, so it should be a new experience for me.
Definitely a step down from the previous month's offerings.
Glad to see Stranded Deep, as I've been mulling over that. I can pretend that the money I wasted on the woefully under-patched 'Unturned' went on this instead..
I really don’t like complaining about PS+ offerings, but I’m really ticked that we’re getting two games that are currently on PSNow. It’s a slap in the face to people subscribed to both services
Good month, I think. Games I’d never buy, but now they’re games I’ll definitely try. I do have BF5, but maybe I’ll revisit it now for MP.
@Spoonman-2
Not really bothered about difficult, if it’s fun, but more concerned because the guide recommends a boosting partner and I don’t do that, lol.
so...nothing really good then
@BamBamBaklava89
Shhh. We aren’t allowed to mention it because PS Now isn’t available in every country on the planet.
That’s why I didn’t renew my now subscription. Not worth having both.
@thefourfoldroot
I didn’t use a boosting partner, but have fond memories of smashing a load of random Germans up on the way to the online trophies 😅
I’ve been meaning to play wreck fest since it’s been on Now. I guess the upgrade is good.
It's definitely not the best month but could be worse, it could of been games with gold 😬
Kind of thrashy lineups compared to previous month
Pretty good selection of games, but I own all 3, well wrekfest on PS4 so will give the ps5 version a go too, it's a really fun game fair play and at least it will boost the numbers for online. Wasn't a fan of battlefield haven't enjoyed one since 4, but hopefully the one releasing this year will be good. Stranded deep was meh, couldn't get into it, but probably wasn't in mood and give it enough time.
It is a kick in the pants for PS Now subscribers. They really do need to merge them at this point.
Well, they were due for an off month, I guess. Went to metacritic to see what was up with these, check these user scores:
Stranded Deep: 5.1
Battlefield 5: 2.4
Eeesh.
Happy enough with this. Dont own any of them so good to add to the library. I thought i had battlefield, but it turns out i had battlefield 1 (which tbh i was disapointed with), but i will happily give V a go for free
@thefourfoldroot @Mostik Yes its very simple and painless. Mainly just playing through the game regularly and you'll get it. The 20 wins trophy is simple to boost, theres a race you can do that only takes like 15 seconds to complete. I self boosted with the PS4/5 and took minimal time. Don't remember exact time but probably around 15-20 hours to complete.
@Spoonman-2
Cool, thanks. Don’t know why I’m even thinking about it, by the time I finish the games I’m playing it’ll likely be a ghostown anyway!
I just got back on plus because I need it for online gaming but I am not even going to redeem these. Car wrecking, war...this month just needs a little football and it’s perfect 🤣
I don’t really get this kind of subscriptions
@redd214 Great news thanks buddy 👍
Wreckfest is an excellent game but is already available on PS Now. Come on Sony! Why do this to the folks loyal (stupid?) enough to subscribe to both services???
cool another great month🙂
I'm pretty excited for wreckfest as I really love games where you destroy stuff!
@nofriendo the PS5 Version is not on PS Now? what has that got to do with anything anyway this is a separate service.
This isn't a very good month honestly. It's just kind of meh overall.
Ah yes ps now prevails again!
Absolutely loved Stranded Deep. It’s the kind of game most people will play for 5 minutes and delete but if you give it a chance and learn the gameplay mechanics (I recommend watching a few tutorials on YouTube to get you started), it’s brilliant.
I must have played 50-60 hours at least working towards the platinum.
Heavily inspired by the movie Cast Away - they even have a version of the theme song which plays occasionally.
The sea monster battles are intense even when you’re fully geared up for them.
Stay out of the sea at night... 🦈
I've been playing the PS4 version of Wreckfest on my PS5 during a free month of PS Now, and enjoyed it...but beat all the single-player stuff, unless I go back on harder difficulties (which I probably should) or have to start over in the PS5 version (which...won't be the worst thing in the world). As I recall the PS5 version was going to cost extra, so I wasn't sure I'd touch it - nice to get it as part of Plus! I'm usually not an online game player, so I haven't kicked the tires on that part of the game, yet.
Which is why Battlefield V is a big "meh" for me. I suspect most fans of the franchise have it already, but it's a decent enough addition to Plus even if it's not my thing.
Nothing for me so this might be a good month for me to drop my sub temporarily. But..... Would the asynchronous online of Returnal work without a sub?
Bummer. Womp womp.
Meh, already done with BFV and racing is not my jam at all. Guess I’ll at least try Stranded Deep though.
But I am all good really, my backlog is already massive.
All on PS Now and EA Play so nothing new for me. Oh well.
Wreck fest leaving PS Now in May so that's something I guess.
Stranded Deep is really...meh! It really seems a fan made game, I tried it with psnow and after 30 min my raft was stranded deep (pun intended) on a rock.
Anyway, PSNOW members get a big fat **** in their faces again lol
Good month to play the 10 free games we got w/ Play at Home.
@deathaxe Didn't know that about regional availability, thanks for the enlightenment. Still seems as though it's a needlessly murky double offering from Sony and something that can be streamlined and easier to understand for their customers. That being said, looks like the PS5 version of Wreckfest is nicely upgraded, so I'll be enjoying that one no doubt. Whereas I took a hard pass on all last month's offerings.
My PS+ subscription expired a few months ago, nothing here to tempt me back when I’ve got plenty in the ‘backlog of shame’
Ouch I have all 3 games already 😭😭 was kinda hoping theses 2 indie games that they're showing on state of play tomorrow we're going to be on plus.... Also for people le that have ps now and have already had 2 of theses games, really need to join now and plus together because this happens alot
TERRIBLE month. Wreck fest and Stranded Deep were/are both on PS Now. I'm thinking I'm going to let my PS Now subscription expire...
@nofriendo PS Now just US, Canada, Japan, UK and like half of EU, I believe.
Decent month!! I’ve not played any of these!
I’ve got a massive backlog and I’ll add all of these to it.
@LordSteev did the same, both games are trash, no interest in them
Very good month. Can't wait to play Wreckfest and Stranded Deep.
Battlefield V isnt a good battlefield game
Raise the price of PS Plus $10 a month and offer PSNow as a package. Or better idea; do that but don't raise the price. Either way I'd take it.
Yes! Can’t wait to play Wreckfest and I’ve had Stranded Deep on my wish list for a while!
I own battlefield and haven’t played it in ages so I’ll probably give that a miss.
Good month all round
Remember everybody:
Having said games yourself does not equal the game selection this month sucking.
Well, I'll add Battlefield to my library, anyway. Was hoping the Sekiro rumours might have been true, I don't really dig hard games but I did end up getting really good at CTR and beating most of it. Took hours and hours and good reactions under pressure so I might finally give a souls style game a go. I also have Bloodborne, though, so might just play that then.
I got Stranded Deep years ago on Steam Early Access and never thought it would ever release. Can’t believe it’s even got a PS4 port.
@redd214 is the plat an easy one on this?
@Boucho11 Wreckfest was an easy one, at least for me. Can't speak on the other two.
@redd214 cheer mate
Stranded Deep was quite good but I found progression a bit frustrating. Subnautica has replaced it in my current playlist, much better game.
Thank you so much Sony. I would have bought Wreckfest, maybe. But that's incredible.
Another bad month for me again. No interest in any of those games.
Decent lineup. Slightly disappointed Wreckfest PS4 isn't offered too, since still can't get hold of a PS5 easily. Can add to library though for the future. BFV I have, but very good game despite not hitting the heights of BF3 & 4. Stranded Deep looks interesting.
I feel like it's been ages since there was a good 2D indie offering. I'm sure these titles are all fine but I don't have time to waste on fine anymore.
Skip.
@fluggy you mean that's a PLAYSTATION PLUS finger guns
Wowwowowowow! I don't have any of those games! Stellar month.
Wreckfest have on ps4
BV hell no
and that last don't know, but my backlog is filled with open worlds, so maybe not for me.
Very happy about Stranded Deep as its a game i wanted to try for ages.
Been playing Battlefield V on Xbone since release and its fantastic! The best multiplayer shooter around with tonnes of content. And the single player campaign is great too. So I'll be downloading this and doing it all again. Highly recommended
Well, that sucks. I don't do first person and I don't do online, so another empty month for me.
@Col_McCafferty you should try Hunt Showdown, it’s the most different and unique battle royale out there.
Not a great month, i'll add Wreckfest to my collection but not interested in the other two, never understood the appeal of Battlefield, it's a total bore-fest.
@KingPev Really? Metacritic users gave it a 2.4, but I trust your opinion as it seems we have similar taste. I'll go ahead and download BF5 then, on your recommendation. But if I don't like it, I want my money back.
Nah... not for me, mate!
Stranded deep is a plus for me.
I already own BFV and the maps are nice just not enough.
I dunno about the final game so it is worth trying out.
I like the selection for May.
Confirmed elsewhere, apparently - Wreckfest PS5 edition will be available to Plus members free, for a full month before it's released to the general public (at any price) in June as a $10 upgrade for owners of the PS4 edition. So you not only save money (a fair amount if you don't own it at all), but you also get it a month earlier.
Assuming you're not done after playing the PS4 version, that is.
Cant complain. Have had 4 straight months of pure fire.
Will test out Battlefield V, but this gives me time to finally play some of the games i got on Black Friday🤣
@LordSteev honestly it's a great game. The multi player is brutal if you're not used to it but you quickly get the hang of it. It's a sublime looking game too and the single player campaign consists of 5 separate war stories in different countries and its very good. Never trust a meta critic rating, usually just review bombed. Enjoy....but don't blame me if you don't like it 🤣😉
@KingPev
I figured review bombing had something to do with it, Call of Duty fans being what they are....
And also, to be fair, most of the ones I glanced at were from around the time the game released, too. I guess it got off to a rocky start?
Now I'm sort of looking forward to it, as I haven't played Battlefield since the first one, back in the PC days.
Always amazes me how entitled some people are. PS Plus is what £50 a year tops and that's when not in a sale. This selection for May is one months worth of 12 we get. Not to mention the other benefits like discounts and the 20 Instant games collection on PS5. Not bad for around the price of 1 game.
I always look at it as 1 good month a year makes it worth the cost for the year alone.
Pretty good month for me, I sold BF5 a while back and been meaning to buy it so glad to get it on plus and for Stranded Deep... not sure, gonna check it out as well.
@LordSteev yeah it had the usual buggy, rocky start but now it's a different game - lots of new maps, some of which, like the Pacific ones, are great and new modes added. Well worth it for free!
@itsfoz atleast u won't need to pay for wreckfest upgrade to ps5 version as they are charging to upgrade from ps4 version £10.
I literally just switched from Xbox to PlayStation today. Just picked up PS5 DISC version from Target drop this morning. I haven't played Playstation since the PS2 Era. Love these free games! Remember guys if you think these games suck it could be worse lol since Playstation kills it with it free games every month especially compared to Xbox free games. Sorry for the rambling just excited to be apart of Playstation!
Not a plus month I'm excited about but I'm not unhappy either. I kind of wanted to try Stranded Deep so thats good and Wreckfest could be fun.
"A very varied month" That's like hearing your blind date has a "nice personality" before you actually see them.
I know it’s been said before but, when two of the three games just came to ps now a couple of months ago it kinda pisses you off. Thousands of games I think they can stop the crossover if they wanted to.
@JapaneseSonic
PS Now says Over 800 games are on PS Now!! With a library that size what does a few titles being on both subscriptions take away from PS Now? Absolutely nothing with over 800 other games you can play.
For a moment there I’d misread “Stranded Deep” as “Death Stranding” and almost hyperventilated… 😅
Happy to be getting a driving game on PS5 for PS Plus. That along with the campaign I can play on BF 5 as a solo player and give Stranded Deep a look on PS4. Making this a Great month of games I don't think I would have purchased.
Sometimes a game I own gets added to PS Plus, But the majority of Titles are games I don't own. That is why I still Love PS Plus. I dont get why people complain about a small number Plus games being added to PS Now when they have a library a over 800 game library to play.
“PS5 — now the console which boasts the largest collection of vehicular demolition games”
Been there, done that.
Stranded Deep is a wreckfest.
Still no knack 2 unbelievable.
@Scotchy09 true - I totally forgot they were charging for basic upgrade. Sony saw some foul play there and went over their head for a month maybe haha
Hmm....
...Mmmeeeh....
...Eeehhhh...
i bought Wreckfest during the spring sale, i managed to get a refund in less than an hour from the Playstation Store as i will get it with this
+1 for the service
Wreckfest would be the only one I'd be interested in but PS5 only?
I suppose they have to give something to PS5 owners given the dearth of PS5 only titles but given that the PS4 version regularly appears in the sale for £10-£15 would it have been so financially troubling to give the PS4 version too?
Very meh month for me. The last two months' offerings were very good though, so I'm not exactly mad about it.
I am blatantly never going to play any of these games.
Wreckfest is quite entertaining played it on xbox ,the load times are atrocious though hopefully this sorts that out.
Hmm not too bad I guess. Never played any of these and even though I'm not a fan of Battlefield's Multiplayer they do offer a pretty decent Single Player campaign.
I like the fact that all 3 games are very different from each other. I'm definitely looking forward to playing Wreckfest, but I would be more excited if it actually had spit-screen multiplayer.
I'm happy in that it's not going to cause my backlog to grow like most months. No really, I'm actually very happy about that! You guys all enjoy these games, I'm gonna do some catching up on my backlog.
Good month but all the games listed I am not interested. The only one I would have been interested in would have been BFV but I already have the PC version.
Hard pass on all 3, but I may claim Battlefield just because.
Got Wreckfest on Steam but looking forward to playing it on PS5 Not sure about Battlefield, more of a mouse and keyboard man for that sort of thing,
I've got a PS4 but until I got the PS5 I haven't played much on console for years, so now have a huge backlog to get through.
Woah! Bfv! Wow. Not getting it all that time paid off as I've been really close. Already have stranded deep and... Ehhh i guess its ok, im not a huge hardcore survival game guy and lost interest quick
