Update: Oh for Kratos' sake, Sony. Apparently, the God of War Ragnarok logo that spawned this news story is actually fan-made. And Sony only went and used the bloody thing in its official investor presentation.
Needless to say, it's had everyone fooled. Even Sony.
We still hope the game's actually called God of War Ragnarok...
Original Story: Guess what? The game that we've been calling God of War Ragnarok from the moment it was announced is officially called... God of War Ragnarok.
So why is this news? Well, Sony has yet to actually give the in-development sequel an official name. On documents and in interviews, the game has always been referred to as "the next God of War", "the new God of War", or "God of War sequel". Even the title's announcement trailer didn't give the project a name β all we got was "Ragnarok is coming".
But now, 'God of War Ragnarok' has shown up as an official logo in Sony's latest investor presentation. It's official!
To be honest, at this point, we would have been disappointed if it was called anything else. How do you feel about the name? Watch where you're throwing that axe in the comments section below.

Feels like news is on the horizon. Edit: Or maybe not???
I should also add it's lucky for Sony that Destruction All Stars isn't a first party title so they can safely leave it out of the right side of the image, since they can't boast about it's metacritic average.
Sony loves getting us exited, then saying nope.
Off topic, but i've seen a few slides from this invester call today, and they seem pretty poorly put together. Feels like something unofficial rather than an official presentation. Haha im so uncool π
I've seen this happen before. Big oops on whoever did it.
Daniel Ahmed has said the logos are taken from Google images so it isn't a direct confirmation.
Haha.is it april fools yet.word up son
Blame the intern π
What is this? Amateur hour?
Astro's Playroom not being included in that slide is a damn shame. I personally thought it was better than all the PS5 launch games they listed.
Can only assume this tweet was related π

Images for these sort of presentations are often pulled off Google images by some normal 9-5er short on time, getting high res images from all other departments on time is usually a nightmare.
Vaguely amusing but nothing to see here, just normal life.
And what is wrong with using fan made logo? Nothing.
GOW Rag has a nice ring to it too.
@ShogunRok Eventually some GOW game will be called Ragnarok. Probably the third one, because it would heavily imply it being the last one. We've barely scratched the surface of Norse mythology with GOW 2018, I don't want it to end with the next one.
I hope the upcoming one is called something else, so they can keep Ragnarok for the finale.
Doesn't really matter what it's called. I just hope they will be inspired to have the option to play in couch co-op mode or multiplayer. Would be sweet to have one person control Kratos and another Atreus.
Huh. I thought if they're using someone else's work they had to credit it, but I suppose where the logo is based on Sony's IP it's a gray area.
As usual, sad to see how much emphasis gaming companies put on Metacritic. And amusing to see VIllage getting a mention as a "never been better" game when it's had pretty mixed reactions, especially from fans of the series.
With the last game being the only one I've played, I doubt I'll be getting the next one anyway. π€·ββοΈ
@Octane 1 question I always have for everyone who calls this Ragnarok - which it very well could be (like Nintendo could be announcing a Switch Pro instead of a Switch 2 but BotW2 is going to be Pro exclusive π) - if GoW is a trilogy, and it probably will be b/c $ - and they call the 2nd game Ragnarok what do they call the 3rd and final game? Endgame has already been done. But then so has Ragnarok. π€·ββοΈπ
I'm not on board w/ either Fimbulwinter or Fimbulvetr though "God of War: The Long Winter" does kind of work. It could be taking them this long to make a snow covered world splattered in blood. Maybe borrowing from the Splatoon engine. π€£
Personally I hope it is Ragnarok and the end, I really don't want to wait until I'm in my 60's to be playing Ragnarok, but if I were them, it would be a trilogy, and this part wouldn't be called Ragnarok b/c then you have no title for the 3rd.
You ever see Desolation of Smaug? That ends very poorly, as would a God of War Ragnarok that only ended as Ragnarok began. π
@rjejr you're not looking forward to GoW: Ragnarok - Part 2 in 2025?
/S
@rjejr I mean, Ragnarok is literally the endgame. Unless they do a part 1 and 2. But we've only fought 1 god, Baldr, and 2 minor gods; Modi and Magni. At this rate it would take a dozen games. I assume we will get to see more in the next game, but I doubt one game is enough to cover it all. And let's not forget the dozens of monsters, like Fenrir, Sleipnir, and the likes.
@Octane If they make 12 games they'll still finish before FF7R. Which I'm about 97% sure will just never finish, they'll have to abandon it at some point, maybe 2 or 3 more parts, but at their rate that only covers like the first half of the game.
GoW: Ragnarok followed by GoW: Ragnarok PT II seems like a genuine possibility. They can have their cake and eat it too, as nobody will spoil the half, one third, game.
Regardless of what they name it, I'm not playing it until I know for sure. I'm still annoyed about how the first game ended. π
@theheadofabroom I think we'll get "God of War 2: The Long Winter" in 2022. It's "God of War 3: Ragnarok" in 2027- dual release delayed until the PS6 launch - that makes me not want to play GoW2. π
But wasnβt this announced at Sonyβs PS5 game showcase last year before launch?
@Just_2_milky Better then Cyberpunk hyping us and giving us a dumpster fire of a game.
How does something like this happen?
@stefan771 Lazy interns
Not to long ago nintendo used a fan made cactus design for a super mario theme park ride
@stefan771 You give someone a list of games they need to compile in an image, and they start browsing the internet for said images.
The game Okami on the Wii has an IGN watermark on its actual box art, I kid you not. Someone at Capcom just took a random image from the internet and send it to the manufacturing company. Stuff like that happens all the time.
