Today was Sony's Investor Relations Day for 2021, which rarely results in news for sites such as ours. However, this year's presentation from the Games & Network Services segment has resulted in one fairly interesting nugget of information. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is supposedly being prepped for a PC release, following in the footsteps of Horizon Zero Dawn and most recently Days Gone. It appears on the 26th slide through here, listed as a new growth vector for PlayStation Studios alongside mobile and Games as a Service.
The slide also reveals that the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn resulted in a 250% return on investment and that Sony's expansion into the personal computer market is designed to target other territories such as India, Russia, and China. Of course, we've known for some time now that the hardware manufacturer plans to bring many more PS4 exclusives to PC in the future. Most recently, a Steam creator page for PlayStation Studios was set up, listing anywhere up to another 15 PC releases. That total can contain DLC packs, however. Nathan Drake's latest outing certainly seems to be one of them, though.

So Nintendo's games seem to be the only truly exclusive ones. I'm fine with that.
"The Best Place to Play"
@Entrr_username Me too, but just imagine how good a Breath of the Wild or a Mario Odyssey would look and play and feel (thanks to DuelSense) on PS5. It’ll never happen, but it’s fun to imagine.
More Playstation exclusives going the way of Xbox exclusives. I'm fine with this.
Ha, they cannot even get a 60fps patch for PS5 on this game, let alone do a PC release
Seems a bit odd to just release the 4th game.
Maybe I'm just dim, but did the PSNow slide seem to be insinuating that Spider-Man: MM and Horizon FW will be heading to to PSNow? A lot of interesting things to come out of this, I'm expecting some big moves from PS in the coming months...
Surely the Nathan Drake collection will be on it's way too? Ready for the new Uncharted game's announcement no doubt?
Makes sense to me. Although the collection would make even more sense. They should announce a new game in the series at the same time tbh, to drum up interest.
@PapaGlitch I Seen That Somewhere As Well Seems Sony Has Big Plans For PS Now I Just Hope They Can Find a Way To Add PS1/3 PSP And Vita Games To the Service.
The real terror here is the GAAS part of the slide
Just 4, huh? Interesting. Considering they've given out the Uncharted games for completely free, both in PS Plus and Play at Home, they've made basically all the money they can from those versions. Why not squeeze a bit more from Steam?
They release old PS4 game on PC at a price nobody is willing to pay on PS anymore (I mean they are even free to some)
It is the same trick Publishers discovered with the Nintendo Switch. Why you get $19 Ninokuni 2 five years later on Switch for $60.
If PC players pay for it, Sony will keep doing it. Not like it has done anything to PS5 sales.
That would be a total of 3 PlayStation 1st party games on pc
Meanwhile the internet will lead you to believe most ps games are on pc as we speak
I have dozens more Nintendo games on my pc right now than PlayStation, hasn’t stopped me from owning a Switch and PS5. However, I will never buy an Xbox because literally every game will be available day & date on my gaming pc.
@Ah-Void Another tagline Sony ought to do away with since it no longer applies. Same with "PlayStation Exclusive" and "Only on PlayStation."
PS4 consoles sold 114m
China's PC market- 325m
= That's why Sony are bringing games to PC.
I'm still a believer that this helps the devs. Helps drum up sales on games that are pretty much bargain bin purchases.
Plus the mods are always pretty good.
Welp, this basically confirms it's the end of the road for the Sony we knew and loved from PS1-PS4. I fear it's the end of true exclusives now, I guess the first hint was the removal of "Only on PlayStation" from PS5 boxes but these slides outright confirm they're going to push for a GAAS model on BOTH console and "other platforms" i.e. PC and it makes sense since they could only make money from one-time purchases on PC before but now they're going to shoehorn in GAAS microtransactions in future titles for continual revenue and console gamers are affected too.
All this proves to me is that they have lost all confidence in their own products and PS customers that now they're willing to completely ruin the prestige of these exclusives that they've spent decades building all for the sake of greed by pushing "service-led experiences" i.e. GAAS and putting them on other platforms while PS chumps shell out £70 for temporary exclusives.
As someone who was planning on getting a PS5, I really don't know anymore... I guess the first sign of a PS5 "exclusive" going to PC would cement my decision to skip getting the console altogether now.
@truerbluer the fact that anybody is supporting this ideology shows even the hardcore PlayStation community isn’t infallible
Don’t buy a PS5. Wait 2-5 years to play their exclusives on pc. Continue catching L’s
@truerbluer Seriously now I'm kinda regretting getting a PS5. I should've just stuck with upgrading my PC instead.
As a Sony fan and stock holder I'm fine with this , just as long as PC guys remember where these great titles came from.
If Playstation's biggest icon is making the jump this pretty much confirms what I knew that Sony will eventually end up exactly as Xbox, I don't think same date releases on PC are too far off in the future. Well whatever at least we still have Nintendo 🤷 oh and the "Only on PlayStation" needs to be retired.
Great for PC owners, like really great. I kept seeing this narrative of devaluing the console but I think it's absurd. Sony is basically giving new life to games that are done selling on Playstation. Yes, done...now they have a new audience and upgrading versions. I do hope Sony provides these upgrades to PS audiences. Days Gone, GoT, TLOU, etc...all got 60 fps versions, but still missing Horizon when the PC version is nicely spec'd up. I think it's inevitable that we get a 60fps Horizon bump but would be nice if it was day and date with the release for PC.
@AdamNovice logically yeah, and the market has huge potential. But so many of those users are playing FTP games and stuff completely different than what consoles are known for. I agree in theory, but it's such a different market Sony will have to make local games that are appealing to that audience.
That is good news. Well done Sony.
Please do Uncharted: The Lost Legacy next.
Then, Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales!
@truerbluer Only Way i See Sony Stopping This When They See Their console Sales Slipping.
The amount of people that whine every time a PlayStation exclusive that has long dried up sales-wise is coming to PC so that more people can enjoy it never fails to make me laugh.
@Omnistalgic That's very true but I think Sony are looking at it as a market where they'd be stupid to not try to exploit.
Be great if Sony and xBox had an agreement in place where Msft got to experience the Uncharted collection and Sony got the MasterChief. Big Robbie style dubs for both companies profits, gamers get to experience either who never had the chance before. Plus an even bigger L for those who get upset about these sort of things happening
One of the reason I like console more than pc is because the exclusive that use the console capabilities, unlike 3rd party games that have to keep parity with other system like low end pc, it's a bit shame if console exclusive lose that advantage if sony making their exclusive for their console and pc.
@BusyOlf We needs competition between console makers, the reason halo exist is so that people buy xbox rather than playstation, vice versa with uncharted/others sony exclusives.
@truerbluer
Thats quite the dramatic leap to make. Formerly exclusive playstation franchises coming to PC or even multiplatform is nothing new and has been a thing since the PS1 days. Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain; do i need to keep going? And thats never stopped me or you from buying consoles now has it.
@Entrr_username For now. Though, I don't see it being that way forever. Sooner or later it'll end up a standard, and even Nintendo will dive into the potential profits. And I'm fine with that. It doesn't really hurt anyone but those who are afraid of change.
@RBMango My only concern is if the only place to play AAA games would be PC. I hope consoles never end.
@InsertUsername I'm not afraid of change, I'm afraid to live in a world where the only platform to play AAA games would be on PC. I never liked to play on PC.
Then what would be the point in owning a Sony console if they are ported to pc? Beats the purpose of having a console in the first place.
@Chief_Forasteiro Doubtful that world would happen anyway. People like options. So as long as that's a norm(which isn't likely to change), consoles and PCs will coexist as they do now. Not to nitpick, but you did just said you are afraid to live in a world where only PC has AAA games. That is the definition of pretty much being afraid of change, but we can certainly agree to disagree on that.
The whole point of this is to expose new audiences to their IP, and then tempt them to get a PlayStation to play the rest. They must have data that suggests gamers in India, Russia, and China largely use PCs, and this tactic is basically a form of advertising. We'll see if the strategy works.
Of actual concern to me is that slide saying they're looking into live services for their first party studios. Ugh.
Consoles will never cease to exist because it is still the cheaper alternative to play video games compared to PC gaming. Anyway, I think Sony will port the whole Uncharted series to PC and not just UC4.
@PegasusActual93 - Most of the examples you mentioned aren't in the same situation as these previous ones; most of them weren't Playstation exclusive to begin with outside of a few titles, and in those cases, the titles in question often took about a decade to leave Playstation (and usually in the form of a remaster of some sort).
Compare to now, where we have three titles from studios that have been 100% Playstation exclusive up till now (heck, all three are owned by Sony) releasing ports of recently released titles on another platform even though they are still playable on current hardware.
i shall buy this day one. please bring out the trilogy!
hopefully no more console exclusives , i build my own gaming pcs id prefer all the games i own to be on pc , since consoles are budget build pc builds at best.
@huyi no 500$ PC can beat the PS5
Its an old game that hardly sells anymore. As are the other two games. Folks acting like they are releasing day and date on other platforms and the truth is that they are old games that have even been given away free at one point. Why not let other folks enjoy them.
The game has been out for 5 years, calm yourselves.
Whole lot of crying about nothing 🙄
@truerbluer
So basically what you're saying is that in order for PS fans to feel special they need to have 6 year old exclusive games that have been given away for free and aren't making the company any money?
To all the people who are saying they will not buy a PS5 ask yourself this. Are you really willing to spend $1000/$2000 on a PC? I bet you 90%+ of you are not. The PS5 console is fine and ports like this won't have a negative effect on it.
This makes total sense with the movie coming soon. Also LOL at all the "rip playstation exclusives" comments
@Areus I don't see that happening anytime soon. They're going to get their cake and eat it too selling £70 games and PS+ subscriptions to fund further PC ports unless PS customers wisen up. Also they seem outright happy that MLB 21 is now multiplatform and still managed to top US PSN in spending despite Game Pass giving it away. They know their PS customers are complacent with PS5 and will continue to take advantage of them.
@PegasusActual93 Literally all the games you listed are 3rd party and got PC ports about a year after their PS release if you look up their history. It's not the same thing as 1st party studios owned by Sony themselves. Also that was back when PC ports were complete garbage with no unified controller support which meant the PS versions were still the primary versions that most people played. I have no problems with 3rd parties going multiplatform regardless, they're not beholden to only make games for one platform and shouldn't be either.
@Spyroescape What exactly is wrong with PS fans feeling special? Are you saying PS fans shouldn't be treated right by their own company? It's not about 6 year old exclusives, the slides clearly spell out that they're adopting a GAAS model for future titles "both on and off console". How "fine" is PS5 that they're promoting 2 games, Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo that will never see sequels from on their platform again? What is the incentive for PS5 owners to support these games at full retail price knowing they'll never get any follow up games and their direct competitor will reap all the benefits from their sales?
I dont see the problem of older ps games going to the pc or any other platform..more money for the devs and sony so more exclusives for ps owners potentially which will inevitably end up going to pc which leads to another topic like this...oh and liam the other day you chastised somebody for calling people peasents..yesterday a poster called people morons and today in this comments section somebody calls ps owners chumps...if you are going to call people out at least try and be consistent when tackling the comments you take umbrage to..
@truerbluer you cant say that deathloop and ghostwire will never see follow up games as i'm pretty sure bethesda said that not all titles will be xbox exclusives..
@Mad001 consoles are budget pc's are they? Lets see you build a pc that will perform equally to the ps5 including loading times for £450..i very much doubt you can as a graphics card alone will cost you £300 upwards..i just cant see it..
@Northern_munkey Phil Spencer has explicitly said future Bethesda games will be exclusive to "platforms where Game Pass exists"
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-03-11-phil-spencer-says-future-bethesda-games-will-be-exclusive-to-platforms-where-game-pass-exists
The only Bethesda games for PS5 are the aforementioned and updates for preexisting service games like Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76. That's all it's going to get.
@truerbluer https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.eurogamer.net/amp/2021-03-09-microsoft-confirms-some-bethesda-games-will-be-full-xbox-and-pc-exclusive
Looks as though eurogamer dont know either way as this is 2 contrasting articles..
Giving proper care to pc ports and not giving this care to PS5 versions is not the way they should treat their customers. I am done with PlayStation. I am gonna play multiplatforms on PC and buying ganes D1 is in the past. Never again
@Northern_munkey The article I posted is slightly newer than yours but regardless it makes no business sense for Microsoft to spend all that money to buy Bethesda just to continue to operate like nothing's changed. They will leverage their acquisition to bolster their own platforms by making exclusives otherwise what's the point?
@truerbluer granted but the point i was trying to make was that nobody can say which games are no longer going to appear on sonys platforms as bethesda and microsoft have not stated which will and wont themselves yet..you could be right but you could also be wrong..at this moment in time everything is pure speculation and guess work..👊
I bought the collector's edition of this game on day one 5 years ago and I look forward to playing it all over again on PC. Horizon already felt like a totally different game on PC so I'm very much stoked for this.
@LiamCroft Slightly surprised you went with that as the headline. Of far more concern is the worrying line "Develop more service-led experiences within 1st Party roster"
@InsertUsername IMO Nintendo's games truly feel like they belong on a Nintendo system. Sony and Xbox's are only so because they say made it so. Let's be real, who's to say Horizon Zero Dawn and Spiderman can't be on other platforms other than Sony making it so?
@themightyant I wouldn’t consider that a concern. They’re some of the biggest games in the world for a reason.
@LiamCroft Thanks. And appreciate linking the full document, always nice to read the source. There are a lot of little takeaways in the full document.
1. Current & Expected Physical software decline vs Digital (current $13bn USD physical vs £30bn USD digital in 2020, expected to be £11bn physical vs $59bn Digital) Negative Compound Annual Growth Rate on physical sales & hardware (later expected post system launch) hence they don't show it.
2. PS5 Standard Edition expected to break even vs wholesale price next month (and this is Cost of Goods which includes Marketing, R&D etc UNLIKE Bill of materials)
3. Increase in proportion of Female gamers within PlayStation, 18% on PS1 to 41% on PS4/5
4. Expected decline in Gameplay in a post (we can dream)/ evolving COVID world only 3.3 - 5.3%
5. Free to play consumer spend increased from 5% total revenue in 2016 to 25% in 2020 and is expected to grow. (Long time detractor here, but Genshin impact has me firmly in it's clutches, albeit low spend)
6. PS+ hits 48 million paid subs and their primary reasons for continued subscription. 40% for online multiplayer, 30 % for monthly games etc.
7. "Redouble China focus", potentially the largest market and something that can significantly impact the types of games made, also a key push for why getting games on PC is important to PS to pull new users in these territories.
8. PlayStation Direct (buying from Sony) expansion to EU in 2021
9. Play at Home Funimation colab? is this the free 3 months membership or something more?
All interesting stuff!
I dont care about titles going multi platform but seeing Sony wanting to push GAAS makes me feel uncomfortable.
I'm perfectly fine with PC ports.
More money in Sony's pocket to fund exclusives and more people get to play them.
My only MAIN concern is if they start porting games, they need to ensure the PS5 gets some sort of patch for at least 60FPS.
If they do nothing and PC gets a shiny bells and whistles port while PS5 users are stuck with the PS4 Pro version, then it causes bad blood from console owners.
Horizon Zero Dawn being a perfect case right now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if The Last of Us, Spider-Man, GoT etc all come to the PC soon. It makes sense to bring old PS4 games over to PC for more profit now that they’ll be focusing on new IPs and new squeals for the PS5.
Hell yeah. Been interested in uncharted for a long time after playing the tomb raider reboots but I'm not spending money on a console
Another thing people are grossly overlooking is the push to selling to China and the ramifications that will have on game content. They're now going to self-censor their own games to appease that market and stifle creativity so that the games are sanitised for the Chinese market.
I am not hopeful for the direction Sony are heading in that's screaming profits over passion.
@Nepp67 lol Good luck on getting a graphics card. PS5 is still fine even if Sony releases games on PC for gamers who do not sit on a soft sofa to game on a huge tv but prefer to game on their desks.
So i am giving SONY all my hard earned money each year so they can make games for PC to!?!? :-/ Hmm, I hate PlayStation Exclusives going to PC
Nathan Drake, the PlayStation Icon of the last 15 years, on PC? Really? If this happens, everything seems possible...
@Carl-G Yes, your annual PS+ subscriptions are funding PC ports, while PC gamers get to cross-play online with PS players for free, no subscriptions required! How fair does this proposition seem to you as a PS player?
@Northern_munkey lol my last pc upgrade was £1500 .yes consoles are weak pcs 😂🤣 . i mean i got 2 console generations out of my pc and no signs of stopping. consoles are sold at a loss to get subscriptions. i have both the series x and ps5 console is tweaky tweaky free lol on pc im always tweaking.
@truerbluer "Yes, your annual PS+ subscriptions are funding PC ports, while PC gamers get to cross-play online with PS players for free, no subscriptions required! "
Omg looool 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Didn't Sony just say they made a 250% ROI on their investment for the HZD PC port?
Its really simple people. Sony have made their decision and there is nothing that anyone here can do about it. Learn to love it or go somewhere else but either way, those ports are coming.
@Mad001 i think you missed my point..the ps5 is £450...to build a pc that runs the same as performance wise will cost you a lot more..so really the ps5 is more of a mid-high end gaming pc but cheaper..a lot cheaper..are we on the same page here or am i missing something?
@Northern_munkey sold at a loss dude
@Mad001 you dont make any sense at all..of course its sold at a loss everybody knows that..but the console will perform as intended for the next 7 years or however long this gen lasts...you will be upgrading and tweaking away ad infinitum..enjoy your pc dude..
@Northern_munkey 👍
I have to wonder what makes people think Sony ought to do PS5 enhancements for the games that they're porting to PC. That implies Sony actually feels some semblance of commitment to us PlayStation users--the ones that they now have ZERO qualms about actively misleading into purchasing their systems. It's almost as if seeking new customers outside of the PlayStation ecosystem incentivizes Sony to be less committed to their existing userbase?
Besides, even if they do enhance the games on PS5, the PC version would still be superior, so why bother? The best version Sony's own game, the former PlayStation exclusive, is not available on PlayStation. That's apparently how it's going to be from here on out. And that's something that I, as a PlayStation fan, should be perfectly fine with because....why, exactly?
@InsertUsername Yeah, but a world where you just have PC to play games, IMO, would be a terrible change. I understand hardcore players like to play everything with Ray Tracing, 300fps, 8k resolution, and mods in every aspect of the game, but as a casual player who usually has free time to play only at weekends, a $499 or $299 console (Switch) is fine to deliver some fun for me.
I always liked choices and different platforms/ways to play, Sony becoming a developer like Sega, it's what concerns me. I hope this doesn't happen so soon because I still intend to get my PS5.
I have to admit, I find it funny that 5 years ago when Play Anywhere was announced the sentiment from PS fans was “Xbox no longer has exclusives why bother buying that console anymore.” Now the sentiment is: “I’m ok with this because it’s better for everyone and doesn’t hurt my enjoyment ☀️🌈☮️“
Well, at least some people out there are calling this like it is. Not trying to harp on PS for doing this but the people who lambasted Xbox for doing this should stick to their convictions.
Sony is going down the same terrible path as Xbox. No longer having exclusives. Games focusing on GaaS and Microtransactions.
What do you even get for buying a PS5 anymore? A controller that drifts, and the ability to play a few games 2-3 years before they inevitably come to PC?
Anybody that is thinking about getting a PS5 or a Series should just wait until GPU prices come down and build a PC. Series won't get Sony games. PS5 won't get Xbox games. PC will get both PS5 and Xbox games. You won't have to pay for online. A good PSU and Case will last you 10 years. Sure your GPU&CPU might die in 7 years, but you were going to upgrade to a PS5 Pro or an Xbox Series XX by then anyway.
My daughter is 8 now. She was 3 when this game released. What's the big deal? Also, do all the naysayers whine when emulators put developer's games on PC for free?
@GameCollector84 what does Uncharted 4 have to do with PS5? The game is older than PS5 lol. Sony is bringing a 5-year-old game to PC and you're wallowing. SERIOUSLY?! Anyway, just get a PC man. You'll be able to play Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart in 2027. It's one thing if they're simultaneous releases. But they're half a decade apart.
@AhmadSumadi
I already have a PC that beats or matches PS5. I'll be able to play Ratchet and Clank in 2024. Possibly sooner, because Sony is rapidly changing the way they do business. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sony just up and started releasing their games to PC on the exact same day that they release them to Sony consoles.
@GameCollector84 PS exclusives going to PC dates back to PS1. And which PS games have gone to PC? Horizon? 4-year-old game that's died off in console sales. Uncharted? Which has yet to be confirmed. 5-year-old game that's no longer selling. Even the MLB: The Show moving to XBOX hasn't stopped it from selling.
Anyway, if you feel that you no longer need to buy a console because in 4 years you'll be able to play that console's games on another platform then just wait. I mean, you think Sony might move to day one PC ports (which doesn't seem likely) but right now that's not the case so why lament as if it is?
@AhmadSumadi
"PS exclusives going to PC dates back to PS1."
You are confusing 3rd party exclusives going to PC with 1st party exclusives going to PC.
Horizon launched on PC 2 years and 9 months after launching on PS4. Days Gone launched on PC 2 Years and 2 months after launching on PS4. Clearly Sony is moving the PC release dates closer and closer.
MLB the Show 2021 sold well? Do you have exact sales numbers for that? Or are you just referencing all the money they made in MTX?
Lament it? I WANT Sony to move to Day 1 PC ports! I hate the idea of buying a PS5 only to have the exclusives moved to PC two to three years later. Why? Because I own a kickass PC and would rather buy those games on PC. I'm not going to spend $500 on a PS5 just to be able to play inferior versions of games that will eventually come to PC. That's a waste of money.
@GameCollector84 then why are you saying Sony is going down the same “terrible” path as Xbox? How is the path supposedly terrible if it’s what you want?
Sony loves making its playerbase beta-test their games for other platforms
@AhmadSumadi
Because that path includes both putting their games on PC and a heavy focus on GaaS. Ideally Sony should either keep all PS5 games as exclusive until the PS6 launches, or put all their games onto PC day 1. I'm happy either way. If they put all their games on PC day 1 then I get to play all their games day 1. If they keep all their games on PS5 for the entire generation, then I'm happy buying a PS5. It's this halfstep where they release their games 2-3 years after launch onto PC that annoys me. If you buy a PS5 your purchase is soon undermined by games going to PC. If you stick to PC you have to wait. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Edit: I made a thread on this a week ago. Check that thread out.
I'd probably by Uncharted on pc for the extra pretty.
You snowflakes are defending the idea that all games should go multiplatform but you act like resources are infinite. They are going to use their finite resource to port the future games for different platforms instead of using that resource to increase the quality and shrink the release windows between games. I am pretty sure this will be a lose for gamers in the long run.
@_seneka Tell that to Sony who made 250% ROI with HZD and to all third party developers who creates multiplayer games.
@BrainHacker you have no idea what you're talking about. Sony literally said they felt that the ps4 was going to be their last console and that their exclusives saved them basically. Do your research before you decide to spread lies my guy.
