Horizon Forbidden West recently received a fantastic gameplay showcase, and the sequel appears to be shaping up very nicely indeed. However, Guerrilla Games and Sony aren't quite confident enough to nail down a release date just yet. While that information will be coming "very soon", PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst reiterates the game is currently on track.
On the PlayStation Blog, Hulst speaks about the struggles of developing major PS5 and PS4 games over the last 18 months. He admits that development was affected on Forbidden West (and God of War Ragnarok) because of limited access to performance capture and audio recording facilities. Despite any setbacks, Hulst says the Guerrilla sequel is in good shape, but they're not completely out of the woods yet. "For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season," he says, before adding that it "isn’t quite certain yet". He assues that the team is "working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can".
Put simply, Horizon Forbidden West will almost certainly launch towards the end of 2021, but don't be too disappointed if it does slip into next year.

Hold it back till early 2022, no point releasing amongst all the massive 3rd party games and probably whatever Nintendo release with Switch Pro.
They will probably wait and see when Nintendo plans to release BotW2
Everybody knows 90% of release dates are a joke and only serve to build hype. Don't expect this till 2022 somewhere.
I expect this is March 2022. There are so many third party games launching Holiday 2021.
Every time Hermen opens his mouth, bad news always comes out.
I’m betting early 2022
So is today Bad News Wednesday then 😂
Just bite the bullet and delay it to 2022.
I wouldn't be too upset if Horizon 2 Forbidden West was delayed til 2022, it just means 2022 is going to be one hell of a great year for PlayStation if Horizon 2 Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 & God of War: Ragnarok all release in the same year.
What we got if this doesn't make fall 2021?
Ghostwire Tokyo in October? Anything else?
All studios are having difficulties, but if any exclusive studio can do it, it would be a Sony studio.
If it doesn’t release this year I lose a £10 bet, but that’s cool.
I do now think HZDFW 2022 and GOW 2023.
Hope it doesn't realise this year as I will win a £10 bet.
I’m not too concerned if it pushes into 2022, but it does make me concerned about the state of the ecosystem. Rift Apart will shine, but be long forgotten by holiday season, so Sony needs something to build hype
@blinx01 - Kena: Bridge of Spirits releases in August & Abandoned supposedly releasing later this year. I could maybe see Stray OR Little Devil Inside releasing later this year.
@Th3solution
They have Kena (August), Deathloop (September) and Ghostwire Tokyo (October).
I can't think of any other big exclusives.
This holiday season refers to Christmas? I thought that would refer to the summer holidays.. Always weird to use these confusing definitions
@blinx01 I think Kena and Deathloop are pretty solid to stay at or near their dates. I suspect neither will be system sellers, but both look good to me. I’ll probably wait on Deathloop but likely adopt Kena early. But it’s a fairly smallish title, relatively speaking.
I think Ghostwire Tokyo is still a question mark. I could be wrong, but there seems an unusual amount of silence about it. Which the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Microsoft is fighting letting it be a PlayStation exclusive. Either way, October is probably pretty optimistic I’d venture.
I'd have no problems with a delay.
Make the best version you can, we'll be here when it's done.
Also, I think we're all expecting a Switch Pro with Breath of the Wild II for Christmas...
“On the PlayStation Blog, Hulst speaks about the struggles of developing major PS5 and PS4 games over the last 18 months.”
Well, how about you do what you said on focus on THE DAMN PS5 and ease your burden.
Damn, the hits keep coming...I guess the only thing to do is remain optimistic for a holiday release.
I have a huge backlog anyway plus there's still plenty of upcoming releases to look forward to as well so I'm ok with them delaying it until next year.
I would rather they delay Horizon: Forbidden West into 2022, we do not need a rushed Holiday 2021 release.
Plenty of other new games coming out on both PS4 and PS5 to keep us entertained, not to mention the backlog.
