The next turn-based JRPG from former Final Fantasy employees Astria Ascending has been confirmed for launch on 30th September 2021. Coming to both PlayStation 5 and PS4, the game will release straight into Xbox Game Pass while Sony fans are charged full price. A new trailer accompanied the announcement, focusing heavily on how turn-based battles play out. Check it out above.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy X writer Kazushige Nojima is penning the game's plot while Final Fantasy XII composer Hitoshi Sakimoto is working on the soundtrack. Supposedly 50 hours of gameplay will see you explore five cities and the animated 2D landscapes that encompass them, all of which is governed by a dynamic weather system. A quick plot summary reads: "In a world where chaos looms, players take control of the Demigods – a motley crew of eight heroes charged with the fate of the world."
With eight different customisable characters to choose from and more than 200 monsters to fight, Astria Ascending sounds like it'll be a worthy investment come the end of September. Voice acting will be available in English and Japanese, 20 classes allow you to tweak your party of warriors, and mini-games serve as a welcome break from the action. Will you be picking up Astria Ascending in a few months time? Take your turn in the comments below.

Please stop mentioning about gamepass on every single story but in other news, more CHAOSSS
@djhegzy We'll mention it every time it's appropriate, and a game that launches into the service while PS5 and PS4 users have to pay full price is one of them.
@LiamCroft why? to make ps players feel bad about it? or to not support games that are free on pass while charging full price on ps platform?
@arra1213 agree, we know most games are going to be on gamepass for free now. I think they are hoping all media outlets do the same to force sonys hand to do something similar. Think its unfair to the devs though, not sure how it is sustainable.
but yeah I come here for the PS news and I know i will have to pay fr my games without being reminded every article.
@djhegzy yeah because im pretty sure this game also coming to switch and pc for a price but he didnt even mention it on the news
@arra1213 Neither option. It’s simply sharing a fact in a news article.
@LiamCroft fair enough it keeps the site active afterall, could you do the same for ps plus games for July as its more than likely xbox players will have to pay for one or more of them, while your at it maybe go through ps now to see if there are any games xbox gamers also have to pay full price for.
@LiamCroft yeah but if im not mistaken its also a fact that u have to pay for it on switch and pc but u never mention it
im waitin for your sister site on nintendo if they will mention that its free on gamepass
Sounds like my cup of tea. Don't know why people are making an issue out of the Gamepass thing tbh but then again what else is new people seem to get upset over every little thing they do on here.
@arra1213 Ahh would explain all the whingers on here. You all came over from Nintendo Life, the very site who's Community was driving me insane with the amount of nonstop whinging that went on.
@RubyCarbuncle because its a ps site and not really ps news , heres a new game you can buy but xbox gamers get it for free.
@vapidwolf Yes but I left that website and made a fresh account here to get away from that. It's annoying. I really don't see the issue here PS site or not.
@RubyCarbuncle the one wrote the article said its appropriate to mention gamepass on a ps site, so its appropriate to mention it on a nintendo site too,
and whats with the hate towards nintendolife users?
Getting Octopath Traveller vibes from the combat system. Looks interesting but we’ll have to see.
As for Gamepass, I don’t care. If I’m interested in a game, I’ll happily pay for it to actually own it.
@TripleKing333 yeah gamepass is a rental service like blockbuster and should never be a substitute for owning your content ,this is a gentle phase out of the xbox console as we know it, give it a few years and it will be a usb stick you put into your tv
This looks good, I have pc gamepass so I'll try it.
@arra1213 I don't hate Nintendo Life users but during the years I was on there I saw constant moaning. To give a Prime example most recently: whenever the site published anything to do with Sword and Shield all I saw were a bunch of people hating on the games or complaining about them.
No need for that nonsense.
@LiamCroft Why not mention it's full price on Switch and PC? You also state that it's full price on Ps4/5 as if what you're getting on Gamepass is the same thing. You're paying full price to OWN the game on the other platforms and to rent it for a few months on Gamepass. It just comes off as such a forced dig.
@Royalblues You couldn't be more wrong. When those cartridges and CD's for the older consoles wear out or break you now own nothing. However any game I purchase on Steam or even the old consoles you'll have access to basically forever. Even the Wii with its store shut down you can still access any game you've purchased. Same deal when Ps3 eventually shuts down again. So how is physical superior again and that we don't own anything? And don't even try to compare live service or MMO games that have shut down. That's an entirely different story.
Definitely playing this.... for the cost of subscription. Looks great, literally no reason not to give it a go.
@mucc And if you should lose access to you account for any reason then what?
I still have SNES, Megadrive and Gameboy carts that still function fine after 25+ years.
Gamepass is a weapon made to accelerate the forced death of physical game sales and I don't like it.
I love me some RPGs. Especially turn-based. This is looking good. I had completely forgotten about it.
@Royalblues You're the one who completely ignored my argument. We own games just as much as we did years ago. Until Steam/Sony/etc. start removing access to your old game downloads then my stance proves true. I don't even see the point of your third sentence.
Also my problem with GP is that it's not profitable without a massive subscriber base and it will eventually change how games are made. MS is taking massive losses so they can build a subscriber base and control the future of the industry. They're practically giving it away for free. If games now become geared towards subscription services then we'll see even more live service games and just endless seasons instead of sequels. Just look at how Halo MP is now going to be free to play.
@TripleKing333 How can you possibly lose access to your account? It's not a remote.
@mucc Illegal access by a third-party? Database failure? Memory loss? Service closure?
edit: Also: By being banned by the service provider for literally anything they feel like at their discression?
That was just off the top of my head.
@TripleKing333 And where have any of those happened aside from third party access which every story I've seen is usually because some idiot tried to trade accounts or something similar. What are the chances that Sony has a database failure compared to your 20 year old CD not working?
Let's get back on topic now, please.
I'm also sick of hearing about Game Pass. The gaming media is trying it's hardest to push it down our throats. Wasn't relevant to this story at all on a Playstation site. Believe it or not, there are some people out there who do not care about Game Pass at all.
@LiamCroft I for one APPRECIATE it when you let me know it's coming to Game Pass. Wouldn't be the first time I've bought a game I could, or have already, downloaded elsewhere! Thanks for the heads up.
@themightyant No worries, I'll be trying it on Game Pass too.
@mucc Just bought some SNES cardridges they still work. Just bought a few PS1 games they still work.
@Royalblues "And why do people think downloading a game on Game Pass is not supporting the devs?"
Because I very much doubt they get anywhere near as much as they would if people were to actually buy it. Case in point: Days Gone and the creator's comments about people buying it on sale or getting it on ps+
Please continue mentioning when a game releases on game pass but is full price on playstation! As someone who typically only buys games on sale (and when it's at the cheapest historically), knowing that a game is significantly cheaper off playstation definitely helps inform whether I want to buy it on playstation.
Shouldn't buy any game on PS that launches on GP. Just taking the piss now!
