It’s one of the most anticipated indie games on the PlayStation 5 and PS4 by far, but you’ll be waiting a little longer to tango with Sifu, we’re afraid. The brawler, originally due out in 2021, is now targeting an early 2022 release window: “The COVID crisis and the subsequent lockdowns have been a huge challenge for everyone, and although we were lucky enough not to face the important revenue losses that many businesses have gone through, the situation did create some real challenges for us,” community manager Felix Garczynski explained on the PS Blog.
Don’t worry, though, there’s some new gameplay to enjoy, which focuses on the contemporary brawler’s nightclub level and aging mechanic. “Starting in a nightclub, our main character will soon find themselves in an underground fight club and will have to prevail through combat in order to reach their target,” Garczynski continued. “The progressive and subtle evolution of your surroundings as you get deeper into the hideouts of your enemies is a strong theme throughout the game.”
The game is structured a little like a roguelike, where you’ll age each time you die. This is designed to showcase the experience you gain along the way, but as in real-life you can only age for so long – reach a certain age and you’ll eventually have to start over. It all looks and sounds very cool – take a look at the new trailer above.

So if you age too much and die one last time do you start over from the very beginning or from a checkpoint? Having a permadeath type of mode would fit this very well instead of a checkpoint system.
@Nepp67 I think you start from the beginning again, but I'm not 100%. Pretty sure it's permadeath, though.
I have a sudden urge to replay Sleeping Dogs.
@Splat I'd pay for a 60fps remaster on PS5.
Hopefully the combat isn't too complicated with too many buttons. Absolved was interesting but had too many stances, etc and became confusing after a while.
@ShogunRok Same. Such an underrated game. It's a shame we will never get another one.
That game looks very very fun!
I hope they nail the character development when aging, and it can be a very good twist on the rogue-lite formula...
Looks awesome!
Looks super dope, and the music chosen for the trailer fits very well with the game 's context
@get2sammyb That's awesome then, I'll buy this once it comes out!
@ShogunRok I'd pay for a sequel but definitely not for uncapping the frame-rate for 60fps. Those things should be a free patch.
@chicken_chaser @ShogunRok @Splat I'd also love to see a Sleeping Dogs PS5 patch remaster...but seems unlikely at this point.
