The second season of Netflix’s wildly popular The Witcher adaptation will air from 17th December, and here’s the teaser trailer you’ve probably been waiting for. Confirmed during this week’s WitcherCon, the show will see Henry Cavill once again reprise his role as the Butcher of Blaviken, as Geralt of Rivia is reunited with Ciri.
The Witcher is one of Netflix’s most watched series yet, and it led to increased sales of CD Projekt RED’s critically acclaimed games. A PlayStation 5 port of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due later this year, and it’ll include bonus DLC based on the TV show. Sony has been inspired to emulate the live action adaptation’s success, and is currently working with HBO on a TV show based on The Last of Us.

I've never played any of the Witcher games or seen the show. I just renewed my Netflix Sub, is it wise to watch the show first or vice versa? Had a horrible experience with Cyberpunk and hoping the Witcher can make my view for CDPR a bit better.
@mrtennis1990 the reason everyone is shocked by Cyberpunk’s mishaps is because The Witcher 3 is so good. It’s definitely my favorite game of all time and the show does it Justice. I highly recommend you play the game first just to get the excitement of how they carried over to live action.
Be warned that some characters are different from game to show though. I know quite a few people don’t like when they do that.
@AhmadSumadi @Xenomorph_79 thanks will definitely get to playing the game when I can finally get through my backlog. Have a great weekend.
Patiently waiting for the final season of Grace and Frankie 😁
Yes! Now we need the next series of the Umbrella Academy and Warrior Nun!
@mrtennis1990 honestly if I'd have seen the show without playing the games I'd have been bored. But playing the Witcher 3 for a while and then going into the show will probably help you to get more out of it.
Not the best series and a bit confusing but it's something to watch.
@BowTiesAreCool to be fair, it probably depends on what you're into. I played the first one a bit and didn't like it. Loved the TV show, so I picked up the Witcher 3 GOTY in the current sale. Just waiting to see whether we get a release date for the PS5 upgrades before I decide whether to jump in or hold off.
@mrtennis1990 this is my question exactly. Which first - the show or the game? I don’t want one to ruin the other! Seems like people are saying game first. So we might not be watching the show for a while lol. I’m still in the middle of RDR2!
@Alpine021 seems like the game first is the best way to go!
@Alpine021 if you’re playing RDR2 before TW3, you might be massively underwhelmed with TW3 (for the first few hours at least).
But I also struggled to get into RDR2 at first and it’s now one of my favourite games of all time.
I wonder if this means the ps5 upgrade for W3 will also come towards end of year and how that in turns affects cyberpunk upgrade. Oh well, can only wait and see haha.
Nice, I enjoyed season 1, without it being amazing... but with how the last episode ended I have a feeling season 2 will be far more direct in terms of chronology and far more epic in scope.
@mrtennis1990 Read the books or at least the first one with short stories in.
I thought that the TV show absolutely butchered some stories and characters but Cavill's fight scenes were brilliant!
@fR_eeBritney RDR2 is on my must play list. If only if I had unlimited time to game lol
@ApostateMage what's the name/where can I look into ordering the first book? Thanks for the advice.
@mrtennis1990 The first book is called The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski. You should be able to get it quite cheap from Amazon.
@ApostateMage awesome going to order it now. Thanks again.
@fR_eeBritney That’s so interesting. I found RDR2 to be significantly worse to play than TW3. RDR2 has excellent writing but the gameplay just killed it for me. TW3 excelled at both for me.
@FatalBubbles Yeah, I get that - I was never the biggest fan of R* gameplay (GTA...) but in RDR2 it did eventually grow on me.
It’s still early days yet so TW3 gameplay might grow on me too but I’m finding it quite frustrating at the moment. Trying to loot items from dead enemies/crates/chests takes a few attempts to correctly position the character before you’re able to press X for example and the bloody horse... right now I would give the damn thing to Findus (or Birds Eye or whoever makes them now) to use in their Crispy Pancakes... Spawning a good 10 feet away when I whistle and then gets stuck in a bush. Curse the gods!
I formed such a bond with my horse in RDR2, I can’t see that happening in TW3. Not yet anyway. I’ve only played around 10 hours, which is the furthest I’ve got so far in my three attempts to play TW3 to date. I’m determined to like it.
It’s not really fair to compare the two games tbf. I just meant from a technical standpoint RDR2 is much more advanced (maybe not the right word?) / polished than TW3 due to it coming out 4 years after TW3. But I think RDR2 is the best game R* have ever made.
@fR_eeBritney I think it was just so slow that it was wearing me down. I understand they went for realistic play and I can appreciate that but it just wasn’t my style. Looking back on the story, it was fantastic.
Poor Roach. He was pretty janky in TW3, that was one of the only complaints I really had. But technically RDR2 is probably better. I’ll be curious to see how TW3 is in PS5. The side quest writing is probably the best I’ve ever seen in a game for TW3. I hope you can get into it and enjoy.
Does anybody know if this is based on 'blood of elves' the first book in the main saga or is it still just a short story adaptation?
@Xenomorph_79 lol, take it easy. I rather have a good show than a rushed one. And you all are forgetting there's a global pandemic as well. Things just take a little longer these days. So be it.
Only saw a small part of the first season. Didn’t click for me. The way they try to set up the world feels rather awkward and confusing for someone uninformed on the source material, not to mention the visual aesthetic doesn’t feel as distinctive as the one CD project created. Some really bizarre design choice too (like nifelgaards ridiculous bin bag armour for instance)
Played the second game for a bit, but didn't enjoy the combat. Tried the TV series with close to zero knowledge of the source material and I greatly enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2 and to finally get a ps5 so that I can enjoy the third game which is supposed to be the best one.
I haven't even watched Season 1 yet, been busy XD. Glad we have a confirmed date though.
@FatalBubbles
Especially the mid game side quest lines. The side quests are honestly better than the main story line. Significantly so in some cases.
Some of the best story telling and world building in video game history.
@Xenomorph_79 I agree with most of your points but I would FAR rather have 8-10 quality episodes than 20-24 filled with loads of filler like in the old days (and this still happens with a lot of US shows).
Quality > Quantity, and our time is precious.
