Kena: Bridge of Spirits was revealed back in June of last year, and ever since, it's looked like a delightful action adventure for PlayStation 5 and PS4. Unfortunately, the indie title has gone through its share of delays, and developer Ember Lab has just announced another.
The game was pencilled in for 24th August, but will now come just under a month later, on 21st September, 2021:
The team states the extra time "is critical to ensure the best experience possible" on all platforms. It thanks fans for their patience while it works on "delivering the best version of Kena". As always, delays can be disappointing, but ultimately will be to the benefit of the studio and the game.
So, September, then. Are you still excited for Kena: Bridge of Spirits? Pray this is the last delay in the comments section below.

Can’t wait!
But I will until September!!
At least I should be less skint by then 😂
Thought I would have a hard time finding time to play it with Ghost of Tsushima right before.
And now it is smack in the middle of Arise and Lost Judgement 😅
The Playstation schedule is so packed it really does not matter where any game lands - choices, and more choices.
More time for me to finish demon's souls, miles and ratchet ps5
FML.
First Riders Republic, now this...sad
S.o.a.b
Now August has nothing.
That’s cool only a month later it can wait.
I’m more interested in HZDFW and it’s gone a little quiet since the show case, so I’m really hoping for release still 2021.
Without HZDFW there is no big Christmas for PS5 exclusive in house AAA game wise, so I really hope the game makes it.
Think they are only small team, so glad they taking some extra time to do what they need to do. Got loads of games to play so am in no rush to get my hands on it when it releases.
Damn... I was really looking forward to this. August is starting to like it gonna be another dry month for releases for me :c
Considering we've already seen a couple of games delayed out of 2021 into 2022 this 1 is barely a hiccup, less than a month. I'll assume it's actually 4 weeks b/c release days.
Glad they told us and didn't wait to last minute I was actually just thinking about this w/ all the recent Baldo coverage.
They knew I was going to be busy with Hades throughout August. How thoughtful of them.
Ufff, not a good month. September is swamped with new releases.
Oh dear, so I got three days to finish it before Lost Judgment claims my life for a while. It's going to be tight but I'll do my best!
So just Hades and GoT for August then for me.
Look Ubisoft this is how you do it release a finished game.
That's fine. Still got GoT DLC and Hades.
Hmm no surprise. It was too silent around the game during the past weeks.
Ouch. But take all the time you need!
Only a month delay, still a day 1 for me.
Looks great and happy to support the developer
Little bit of a bummer but I’d rather be patient and let them get the bugs out and polish it up. And honestly it’s only one month later.
Better delayed than broken. I'm still stoked.
September = Life is Strange True Colours, Sonic Colours, Tales of Arise, Kena, Lost Judgment, Deathloop and Death Stranding 😬 ridiculous.
Would be nice if they could use the delay to sort out a physical version of Kena at the same time
Im glad, I think a lot of people are looking forward to Hades in Aug (me included) so Sept gives Kena room to breathe and stand out.
My heart sank when I read that, expecting 2022. 1 month delay...I can endure that. I think.
So I get to play Lost Judgment AND Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the same day? Can't complain about that.
@Agramonte I wonder if the delay was to give it some room because ghosts of tsushima was coming out a few weeks before
Why it is mentioned as "exclusive" if it comes to PC on the same day?
@Flaming_Kaiser Riders Republic was delayed literally two weeks ago. It’s even mentioned in the first couple of comments. There’s plenty to complain about Ubisoft but it’s a bit ironic to go after them for this.
Well, that means that Kena, Life is Strange, and Death Stranding will haunt me all at once…and Warioware. Yikes! And October will be no easier. Almost all of my games for the year are consolidated into two months. Not sure how my obsessive mind will handle having nine games in two months. The gaming industry is so stop and go now.
I’ll be honest… this news pretty much just sold me on Ace Attorney Chronicles though. August is empty on the gaming front now.
Happy to wait if it makes for a better product. Got lots to play in the meantime.
@OmegaStriver August has Psychonauts 2, Hades, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Madden 22 if you play sports games and plenty of other indies like Enter Digiton: Heart of Corruption and FORECLOSED that both look cool. Relax and let them polish their game, but I do think September is going to be overcrowded so hopefully some other titles will slip to give them some breathing room.
Really happy to see the studio striving for the best launch they can have. Can't wait for Kena!
Ouch, this one hurts. I booked a few days off work to play it for my birthday.
But feck it. They didn't delay it for the laugh. I can't wait to see what they turn out in the end. Still super excited to play it.
Correction, this is the third delay, not the second. It was initially holiday launch, 2020.
@j2c Ive already played Hades, so, for me, my statement still stands. I’m not interested at all in the others you mentioned.
GoT’s DLC MAY be okay, but I’m not really interested in it taking place during the middle of the campaign.
So September now has:
Kena
Death Stranding DC
Aragami 2
Deathloop
Ghostrunner (PS5 Physical)
Lost Judgment
The Medium PS5
Tales of Arise
And im probably missing some
If this turns out to be as good as we are hoping it will be, then I'll try to make time for it even in a more crowded September. Tales of Arise was going to be my the game of that month, but now I have to choose between waiting on Tales of Arise since it comes out almost two weeks before Kena or wait on Kena. Kena is my most anticipated game outside of Horizon Forbidden West, but Tales of Arise is likely right behind that.
Still, it sucks that it's delayed yet again. It's always disappointing when a game you've been looking forward to for quite some time gets delayed multiple times.
Gives me an extra month to try and get a PS5.
Fine by me. Happy to wait if there's some extra polish and a better overall experience.
Yah this delay is beginning to look like a tactical one at the expense of gamers. Likely to pad the very minuscule fall offerings known this far, and /or trying to cash in on the ghost of Tsushima repackage.
Either way it's lame
It’s hard to get excited with no physical release. I wont pay digital release prices and it’ll take many years for a decent digital sale.
@thefourfoldroot To be fair, it's only £32.99. This isn't the kind of situation where it's £45 on Amazon and £69.99 on the PS store.
Happy to wait a bit more, this looks really good can't wait to play it. Got Hades coming in August so that can keep me busy for a while.
Devastated? Yes but I know it's ultimately for the best well I've already pre-ordered Kena it's my most anticipated game this year so I can wait another month. Plus now I can enjoy Ishi Island on Ghost without clashing with Kena's release
Totally fine with that. Day one for me but happy to wait for the day it is ready. Still got a backlog to get through haha
It better be really good...
@nessisonett Wow i should praise the for doing something decent one time almost all their games are a mess at release so yes im going to use them as a poster child for this. Copy and paste games, liveservice, bringing the mobile economy into full priced games, shoving MT in your menu's like a free to play game. And thats without the other horrible things they did to their workers and its not just crunch. Abuse and worse things while the people who did it got away without real consequences. Activision Blizzard had a employee take her own life because of the horrible condition.
At least it'll be out before Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga!! Then again, the universe might end before that pops up!
Daaamn on my last day of holidays!
But dont mind waiting, really looking forward to this. Guess I'll have Valhala's DLC to keep me busy
No worries Ember Lab! Happy to patiently wait.
Psychonauts 2 will be my August game and Kena will slot in nicely to be a part of my September sessions.
@Flaming_Kaiser Thats why I said they’ve done a whole lot worse. Randomly bringing up Ubisoft here is just pointless.
That's great... so more time for physical copies to roll out ?
digital for me = no buy at this time.
As Green Day sings wake me when September ends… I don’t mine the delay just want it to be a good non-buggy game!
@Otherbarry Yeah, maybe they realized GOT was going to suck the air out of the room.
Hi there fellow gamers.
One month is not a bad delay. But September is already a full month, so...... Yeah.
Anyway, take your time Emberlab and make your first game as best as possible.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming to us all
Take your time, I am ready when you are
Hopefully it will get a disc release by then.
@RaZieLDaNtE @KilloWertz @Danloaded @Rob_230 @Athrum @Agramonte September is definitely crazy packed! I plan to buy Life is Strange: True Colors, Tales of Arise, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Death Stranding: Director's Cut, Lost Judgment, and Life is Strange: Remastered Collection.

@j2c August also has Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut.
@somnambulance @Floki August is not a slow/empty month for PlayStation.
We still have Hades, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, and Psychonauts 2 releasing in August.
@KidBoruto I already played Hades, don't have any interest in Ghost of Tsushima's DLC, and Psychonauts 2 is at the very end of the month... Which I will be picking up on Game Pass on PC.
So yeah, next month is definitely a slow month for in terms of releases for me.
@KidBoruto I suppose. I got what I wanted out of Hades on Switch, so it’s easy for me to forget about that, but I can see where people would be excited.
I’m definitely returning to Tsushima. I’m curious how long the addition will end up being. I’m more excited for one of my friends with the game though, as he’ll be experiencing the game for the first time.
Psychonauts 2, I am oddly on the fence about for some reason. Probably because there’s so many other games I’m more excited about in September. I’ve already purchased Life is Strange, Kena, DS: Director’s Cut, and Warioware (not PS, but something I’ve preordered nonetheless), and I’m contemplating The Medium, Tales of Arise, and Deathloop. September and October alone make 2021 a year to remember in gaming.
@KidBoruto Hi there friend.
That´s a big list.
My list of games is:
Lot´s of games to play around to keep me busy until next year with Elden Ring.
So what if there are some delays? There´s no shortage of great and unique gaming experiences for us to enjoy.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@Floki That's very fair and valid! I only play games on my PS5, while my Switch and XB1X are just for their exclusives.
@somnambulance @RaZieLDaNtE Great game choices for September, hopefully they are well worth our money.
