Death's Gambit, the Souls-like metroidvania that release for PlayStation 4 in 2018, is about to get a massive free update titled Death's Gambit: Afterlife. Basically, the update makes numerous, fundamental changes to how the game functions, and you can find all of the details in the overview trailer that we've embedded above.
With Afterlife, the title's world size is essentially being doubled, which apparently makes it one of the biggest metroidvania games ever. Impressive stuff, and again, this is a free update if you already own Death's Gambit.
There's no concrete release date, however. Developer White Rabbit says that the update will come to Nintendo Switch first — at some point in 2021 — and then PC about a month later. Then, around one month after that, it'll arrive on PS4.
Have you played Death's Gambit? Might this update tempt you into giving it a go? Pick a class in the comments section below.

Solid game in the 2D Dark Souls vein. Since this is free I’ll gladly give it another go but this did drag a little towards the end
Not familiar with this but looks pretty cool
Wow. That isn't DLC, it's a new game. Looks great, I missed this one and it seems like a good thing I did. Can anyone comment on the original game and what it was like?
Fantastic! The original version was a good proof of concept with gorgeous art. All my gripes with the game are addressed by what is said in the video.
Also, kudos to the devs for their transparency and their openness, oh so refreshing! Job well done, and I'll be waiting impatiently for the update (and am ready to give some money for paid-DLC at some point because they deserve it!)
This is awesome, bought this day one but quit after a few hours because the input buffering was utter trash. Glad they finally addressed that, everything else is gravy. Happy days!
Didn't PlayStation have marketing rights for this, hell I didn't even know it released on Switch so why is that platform getting it first? 🤔
This game was a bit disappointing, played through halfway and quit. But this free update, wow—will definitely go back and give it another go when it’s out on PS. Awesome of the developers to do this for their fans!
I loved the game the first time (probably more than Blasphemous and on par with Ender Lilies)
But with so much to play and so little time, I dont know if I can spare time for a new play through (although there does seem to be more than enough to warrant another playthrough.
The expansion has been long time comming and looks to be well worth its wait. So thanks the developers for that........if the Switch ever gets a physical release with everything on Ill defo pick it up (for my collection)
But whether I can be bothered to dig out my PS4 game to replay......we will have to wait and see what Im doing when it comes to PS4
I think I'll pick this up next time it dips under $10.
@Bdbrady Last time I played it was at launch, years ago. It has a great amount of potential, but at the time it was riddled with performance issues so I left it alone after a few hours. I think I’ll revisit it to see how things changed, because it’s a beautiful game with interesting combat. The story is a little juvenile, but passable.
With decent graphics, I would have given it a chance.
@BloodNinja Thanks. Sounds like it will be a huge upgrade. I hope it delivers and they have the sales to justify that amount of work.
Thanks for the feedback and The Messenger is an awesome game.
Cool, I bought it on PS4 because it was on sale. I'd prefer it on the Switch though.
@Bdbrady Of course!!
MESSENGER NINJA APPROVED
