Assassin's Creed Odyssey is being treated to a new patch tomorrow that allows the open world title to run at 60 frames-per-second on a PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. Update 1.6 is what you'll need to look out for, and it weighs in at just 470MB. Once downloaded, the game will double its frame rate to 60 on PS5.
That's all the patch will do, with the single note reading: "This update adds 60 FPS support when running the game on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility." Still, that's a very welcome boost for those who are either still playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey or haven't gotten to it just yet. When we reviewed the PS4 version, we called it a "superb open world RPG" in our 8/10 review. "With a gameplay loop that simply never stops giving, Ubisoft's recreation of ancient Greece is an amazing achievement, and in some ways, a genuine step forward for open world game design." Now it will run even better on PS5.

Good news! My copy is part of the majestic backlog empire and awaits my future attention!
Really good game and at 60 fps.... Wow.... Coz it's gameplay is the best in all three latest AC rpgs.....
Well acc to me.....
I literally just finished my 90 odd hour save like two weeks ago. God f***ing damn.
Nice, already have the game on pc but I prefer playing it on console. The deluxe edition (psn) is on sale, maybe I'll get it later
I was never a fan of stealth gameplay so never got in to assassins creed at the beginning. I’m also not a fan of bloated collectathons, so didn’t get into the later games.
This might just be the sweetspot for me given the update and my lack of previous experience meaning I won’t have the burnout others seem to complain about. Also I do love the idea of ancient Greece as a setting.
Does anyone with more experience suggest this might be the one to try? Or is there one that is generally considered better?
@YourNameHere same. Majestic pile of shame:D
Nice. I moved from PS4 to PC for Odyssey after Origins looking for better framerate
A stable fps in the last 3 AC really brings up the experience. Glad console owners finally getting that.
Why now with PS5 moving more games back to console. I can save tons of cash renting part of my Day1 list on PS5 over buying them all on my PC (not AC, can rent that either way)
Thank you ubisoft.
Nice surprise. Wish they would give Unity this treatment as well up the resolution to 4K.
@thefourfoldroot I feel Odyssey is more like The Witcher 3 with more loot the any of the other games in the series, its very much an RPG as well. Some advice if you do get it make sure you pick Kassandra as the playable character, she's the canon lead and is much better voice acting wise and feels more natural to the story.
Great! One of my favorite AC games, though it lack of assassin style, but the gameplay, open world design, naval and scenery is very good.
@WallyWest
No worries there, always pick the female character when possible, especially in third person games.
@nessisonett ugh bad luck. Have you done the DLC? I bet the different lands in the 2nd DLC pack would be amazing in 4k 60fps. Been tempted to jump back into the game since I've somewhat experienced those areas in Hades
@Jayslow Yep, finished off Atlantis genuinely a couple weeks ago. It’s heartbreaking, I kept thinking how good it would feel in 60FPS 😂
I’m hoping this drips down the line.. I was addicted to AC origins until PS5 launched, then the drastic comparison compared to the new games, was hard to adjust
I miss my Kassandra...
Hopefully we get a stability patch for Syndicate; a much better AC game IMO.
@wiiware you want the gold edition that comes with all dlc and AC 3 remastered. The dlc is worth it. Wait for gold edition to go on sale. Deluxe edition does not have the dlc included. Season pass is like 35 or 40 dollars US
@thefourfoldroot def play this game. It's a great action rpg. Love it. Three playthroughs and this 3rd one I'm trying to 100 percent. Dlc is worth it too.
You can be hunter (focused on now attacks) assassin or warrior. Three builds and you can build each one at the same time. You just that's to unlock loadouts with money.
Damn I hope they do this soon for Origins.
Liked this a lot more than Valhalla. One of the reasons would be Kassandra's charisma.
Thanks, and, oh, give us a AC Unity patch next, you cowards!
Thats great and all but ive done all the story, dlc, trophies and that took a good chunk of my life lol Valhalla is the same, i haven't even started the dlcs for that
Nice to see them updated for new gen consoles all the same
Uuhh a welcome addition
Great news!
BTW - Nice picture in the article.
@anon_pel222 I prefer AC Origins. Bayek is cool af, the setting is more exotic, and more remarkable (every city feels really different), the size more digestible, the story more interesting and relevant to the AC mythos.
As for the gameplay, I still prefer Origins, it feels a lot more tactile than Odyssey and Valhalla, which are more mmorpgs-like in the way they implement skills.
well. acc to me
Better late than never.
When's Bloodborne gonna receive (at least) a similar treatment ?
That's fantastic, I just decided last week to buy Origins over Odyssey as my first AC as it should be shorter with less bloat.
Hopefully they will update Origins soon too, otherwise I will have to reconsider and get Odyssey instead.
@thefourfoldroot Although Odyssey is a perfectly fine starting point, if you're not a fan of stealth then playing the earlier AC games shouldn't worry you. Despite the series being branded as a stealth series and the entire point of it being that you're an assassin, I'd say that all the games up until Unity aren't stealth games; they're action games with some extremely light stealth elements thrown in. There are a couple of mandatory stealth segments in each game though.
YEEEES!!!!! I just restarted my game and am only a few hours in. This is a fantastic surprise!!!!
Wow. Amazing news. I have played it for around 15 hours but then stopped. Will be a good reason to jump back to it. Keep them patches coming!!
This is welcome news! I am jumping back in! I hope Ubisoft does this with other games, I was playing Far Cry New Dawn this week and I kept imagining how awesome it would look at 60fps. More patches please!
This is part of my PS5 backlog. I had to move it to external storage to make room as I've been busy with games like Ratchet and Clank and Returnal. This is the perfect excuse I need to finally get around to playing it.
Edit: Oh my bad I thought this was for Valhalla. I had a feeling that game was 60FPS already.
Awesome!
I've currently put Odyssey on hold and have been absorbed in Valhalla after giving it a second chance. I've grown to like it much more since my initial 10 hours with the game. I still have major issues with it, but there is a lot to like and a few of the changes, not many, are actually good and hopefully stick around.
Anyway, I knew going back to Odyssey would be tough only due to the framerate. I've never been one to care for framerate much, but after being able to toggle between 30fps and 60fps at will on games, I've been converted.
@thefourfoldroot
This sounds like the game for you! Stealth is totally optional and so are collectable. I personally recommend playing as Kassandra as she is imo the better main character, and ancient Greek setting is colourful and fun to explore. For me Oddessey >> Valhalla & Origins. I hope you enjoy it!
Haven't played Origins yet - any chance they'll do that one, too?
This has become my favourite AC game of the series. I've played through it twice on PS4 and I've just bought it again for my Series S for £12. Here we go again, Kass.
@nessisonett new game plus. It's fun. Crank up the enemy scaling to heavy and up the difficulty.
@Jbuggydroid I thought the deluxe edition have all the dlc included 😅
@Jbuggydroid agreed. I’m holding out for the same.
Guess it's a good thing I never got around playing it.
Please give us the same update for Origins! It's one of my favorite games of all time. Better than Odyssey in every way.
I still have yet to buy this, waiting for a $20-$25 Complete Edition sale with all DLC included.
I will probably replay it, I loved the Old school AC and tried playing Vahalla...not into it, idk if its just the Viking thing im not into or my love of greek mythology and culture, but I did prefer this
Great news. It's my game between games I go back too. I still have to purchase the dlc as well.
@Elodin the dlc is fun and worth it. Highly recommend.
@wiiware no the gold edition is the one you want with all the dlc included
As for the patch, I've completed and earned all trophies this game has to offer and besides I don't have a ps5 anyways lol but at least the people who are playing for the first time of going thru a new game plus will enjoy this patch 🙂
