DokeV captured the imagination with its demo during Gamescom 2021 earlier today, but some fans noticed that the South Korean title has been shown before. An older trailer which debuted in 2019 described the title as an MMO, and that’s left core gamers antsy – there’s almost always a resistance to online multiplayer experiences among enthusiasts, after all.
Not to worry: developer Pearl Abyss insists that the project has evolved since its last showing, and is very much an open world action adventure these days. “DokeV was initially introduced as an MMO, but we decided to move the game in a different direction and it's now a creature collecting open world action adventure,” a spokesperson said. “But regardless of genre, we're going for fun, vibrant, and adventurous!”
The real concern here is that the title will never actually release: the very same developer showcased Crimson Desert during The Game Awards last year, and that’s been delayed indefinitely since. Clearly this has captured the imagination – it looks like the true next-gen Pokémon that Nintendo’s never made – but just how much of the debut trailer is real remains to be seen.

I don't care if it releases or not if it's online.
That new trailer was amazing. If it turns out pretty good, Nintendo's aging Switch graphics will look really bad. I really like the character models with really cool, realistic scenery.
This game looked well good and fun The graphics were really good for a game like this to. I will be watching this game from now on
Genuinely blown away by this game. Definitely one to watch and I think they made the right call making it single player.
I mean, it’s Pokémon mixed with an Action RPG with a little Ghost Buster action as well as cutesy Go Vacation vibes.
My kids will not let me play it because they’ll be all over it.
And then you look at the latest abomination by Game Freak (or the awful D/P remakes), and you wonder where it all went wrong for the single biggest IP in the world.
@Golem25
Well in fairness to Game Freak the Nintendo Switch Tegra chip is a custom mobile phone chip thats 7 years old at this point and there is only so much Game freak can do with the hardware limitations of the Nintendo switch.
at the end of the day Dokev Developer have something like 3 games in development that they announced years ago that still have no solid release date and I would expect the same for Dokev that this game wont be coming for a very long time .
Regardless of Pokemon graphics the games are still coming to sell 10-20 million copies easily .
Graphics never sell games
Stylistically, it feels more like Splatoon than Pokemon to me. The generic monster designs certainly aren't doing it any favors in that direction, anyway.
@BoldAndBrash
1) Nintendo doesn't develop the Pokemon games.
2) The Switch would melt trying to run something like this.
3) This screams early tech demo. If it even does release, it probably won't be for another 5 - 10 years, and probably will only partially resemble this build.
@ArcadeHeroes It's striking how disconnected from broader sentiment people can get in their online bubbles. I'm still laughing about Pokemon Sw/Sh almost becoming the second best-selling generation of Pokemon games overall after the apoplectic hate campaign directed at them for months from people in the series' own online fanbase.
It looks interesting for sure. Here's my take... if it's online only... I'll pass because that means it has a cut off date that's simply undecided. If it allows online play but can be played offline, then I'll look more into it.
It can be about stamp collecting. I will check it out. The trailer blew my mind.
Obvious at this point Pokemon will sell regardless what they make. Plan now is to pump 1 out every year and cash in
Wouldn't be the first game to take 5 or more years to release. Dreams took 7 if you count the early demo, Wild seems canceled, Beyong Good & Evil 2, and several Nintendo games of late. Cyberpunk did release and we all saw how that turned out. So the "small devs can't get games out on time" shaming should really stop, it's been industry wide for years now. How long is Lego Star Wars taking? Not like they've never made a Lego Star Wars game before.
They'll probably turn this into a mobile game in a couple of years.
@ArcadeHeroes
"....the games are still coming to sell 10-20 million copies easily"
I can say that about a bunch of tired and stale AAA games also.
Find it interesting on how being #1 on a chart flip as a sign of "quality" or "market stupidity" depending on the game logo on the box (or simply what website I am on)
No, graphics should not sell games. But it is 2021, some could expect both new gameplay and better graphics for their cash at this point.
@Agramonte
don't get me wrong I am not even a Pokemon fan but I was simply pointing out comparing Dokev to Pokemon is pointless considering one is a tech-demo probably running off the latest GTX 3080 Graphic cards and the other game is running off a Mobile Chip from 2014 .
I never stated being top of game charts = Quality but at the same time you can never expect to see this big of an improvement unless Nintendo releases a platform that has the same level of power as current platforms .
Pokémon Legends: Arceus was about as much as I expected it would look and still it looks like its going to struggle at keeping a steady framerate . but despite all this it will most likely break sale records again. is it annoying ? Yes! cause it would be nice to play these games looking the best they can but at the end of the day its hard to see anything changing .
@ArcadeHeroes I hear where you coming from (especially they do not make hardware)
I just accept it and move on. COD will sell 10+ million just like Pokemon will. I have been proven more than enough times that my opinion on them are squarely in the minority.
I skiped the last 3 rounds of Pokemon. But plan to rent Arceus.
That's good news, I'll get it probably.
@Agramonte @Kienda @Carl-G @meltendo I skipped this game during Gamescom, but after finally watching the trailer I am sold hard!
Day one buy for sure, regardless of release.
