Actual good games
Surprise of the show for me was Project Eve. That's come out of nowhere and looked excellent
I am a little tired of remakes and remasters. Would love to see a new Uncharted. GTA made me laugh.
Project Eve was the big one for me. If that's actually PS5 footage, then it's definitely flexing those next-gen muscles. The combat looked quite fun as well.
KOTOR remake could be cool. Hard to say anything without knowing more.
Overall it felt like box ticking. They did what they thought they had to and no more. Stuff we'd already seen or already heard about and then Spider-Man 2 which was inevitable - and frankly will probably be exactly the same as the previous two - and also on PS4 since they didn't say PS5 exclusive.
I think at this point I'd say if not for backwards compatibility, there's been no point in buying a PS5 so far or for the foreseeable future. I think just about everything announced is either on PS4 or PC. Then again, it's because of backwards compatibility that almost everything is still coming out on PS4. Bit of a poisoned chalice, maybe.
@Matroska Spider-Man 2 is exclusive to PS5 I believe. (For now, anyway.)
I had low expectations and left underwhelmed.
I don’t give a crap for remasters. I can’t get into weeb games. GTAV can die. Insomniac news was nice. I’ve never cared for GT. GoW was as expected.
I would have loved a new, Infamous, Resistance, Motorstorm, an Uncharted like game, a Bioshock like game, a GTA like game, a Puppeteer like game, a Ratchet and Clank like game, but, it is what it is.
@Matroska While I'm not phased by games coming to PS4 as well as PS5, I do agree with a lot of what you've said. This doesn't compare to the great Sony conferences of last gen, but one of those feels more needed now than they did even then.
WOLVERINE!!!!!
That is all.
God Of War Ragnarok blew me away, gutted we got no date or even a vague Summer 2022.
I'm sure that'll come real soon though after Horizon II comes out.
Next to no dates or even release windows, come on Sony!
There was some interesting stuff, at least Wolverine and Spider-Man anyways, but no dates (well, we did get “2023” for Spider-Man but not holding my breath on that.)
@4RunnerX yeah i agree , this remaster crap needs to stop . now people know how important backwards compatibility really is. hopefully the ps5 era will put an end to it .
@get2sammyb They spent so much time yet again on Deathloop, is Kena Bridge to Spirits still due out in - checks calendar - only 12 days? Seems like a bit of a slight, no?
@get2sammyb it better be exclusive! I know the shortage of stock has been having influence, but right now there is 3 reasons to get a PS5: Returnal, Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clank. They are pretty good games, but after a full year it's lackluster. In particular knowing Horizon and GoW will be on PS4 too
@DonJorginho yeah not a date but at least it was confirmed 2022 still afterwards tho was worried it may have been pushed even further back.
Liked a bunch of games. I wish I had more actual dates.
I play more 3rd party games than exclusives in a year. Sony delivers a pair of high quality single player story driven games in a year and I am happy.
Im more than happy with this line up. They are carrying on from the height of ps4 with 2 to 3 bangers a year. Look at this time last gen and things have improved dramatically!
@Ssimsim Wait for real? where?
I got what I wanted and then some:
We have an idea of what the first and third party line up will look like over the next two or three years, and we had updates on some games approaching release.
That's a good haul.
The only thing missing there for me is a PS Plus revamp of some kind.
Elden Ring and Horizon are just around the corner, Kena is almost here.
There's a lot to play there.
Going to watch all of those trailers again now before bed.
Project eve looks cool but nothing as far as date, everything else is just tbd or on ps4.
@UltimateOtaku91 You played them already?
Great showcase. Not enough to justify staying silent for pretty much an entire year, but still not bad at all. What I'd like to know now is what is going to be released in the upcoming months until 2021 ends, kinda hoped we would get a surprise announcement given Sony's silence.
Why are people so desperate for dates? If Sony came out with a bunch of them, you'd only moan that they will get delayed anyway.
@DonJorginho well I thought it was confirmed saw it on resetera but it was just the "see you next year" they were claiming it means it's still coming 2022 which could mean anything lol sorry. I still think it's next year tho
Good thing I had my expectations in check. Nothing that "blew my sh*t".
Not saying anything announced was bad it's just a bit underwhelming. A bunch of remakes and some gameplay/trailer action.
Didn't bring anything new and exciting for the foreseeable future, really. Nothing that we didn't already know was coming anyway.
@Ssimsim the Twitter account for Santa Monica Studios indeed says 2022!
Nothing much here that really got me excited. Alan Wake and Tiny Tina are two games that interest me. The GTA 5 video is a joke.
I believe it was a great show, it was better than l expected based on the previous disappointing announcements
The issue I have with this showcase is just basically nothing was new and especially from Sony's studios. We barely got anything from their first party studios. Like wtf...
Great show, amazing games. Very happy for the future of gaming on PS5 🙂
only two games then they wrap aup the norse stroyline should have been a trilogy
@AFCC only 3 reasons? Apart from the 3 mentioned by you there is....all the ps4 games that now feature free ps5 upgrades (a lot more than 3),4k bluray movies for people who dont yet own a 4k player, improved 3d audio although admittedly you need a really good set of headphones too to reap the benefits...thats more than 3 bud..come on dont you nay sayers ever get bored?
Project Eve & Ghostwire have potential, but I’m not cheering like Tom Cruise on a sofa, lol.
I would like to see a list from Push Square with all this games in the order of the announced release dates (and all the games without a release date at the bottom of this list). Thank you! Das
On a personal level, I think Tales of Arise, Lost Judgement, Elden Ring, Horizon FW, Forspoken, GT7 is enough gaming for the next few months. Then theres also Far Cry 6 and Dying Light that could fill a gap as well. Add in next gen boost to older games and even better.
I’m relieved about GOW. Happy it’s not Cory.
I thought it would be more of the same but it looks like the new one is going to improve on the flaws of the 2018 game (plot, enemies, less cheesy) and possibly more mature.
@Si_Is_The_One
I know right?
The dream game from Insomniac. I was hoping Spider-man 2 would be later though. It looks like 2025 or so for Wolverine.
Frickkin' KotOR, Insomniac Wolverine, 6 minutes of God of War Ragnarok, GT7, Forspoken and some other gems - there's no way that was anything other than an awesome show! Can't wait for 2022.
Sony saved it for me. The third party stuff I'd seen before, or wasn't that interested in.
Third party I liked - Project Eve, Ghostwire Tokyo
First party - all of it except that remastered Drake collection
Poor show imo.
Too much stuff we've already seen /multiplat.
Forspoken, eve and ghostwire looked good.
Highlight was the perfectly rendered camel toe on eve in those shiny green pants.
Instabuy!
If you told me the new GoW was shown on the PS4 pro I would have believed you…
remaster after remaster after remaster....
Good show ....for the PS4. Lot of life in the old dog yet, it seems!
The PS5's release schedule just seems so lacklustre and vague as to when anything of note is coming out? Been waiting for a big expo to show something to galvanise me into searching for a PS5 - still nothing so far! Time to go and spend that £450 on something useful...
@get2sammyb Project Eve looked great but then again isn't it still coming out on the PS4? I could've sworn they said they were developing it on the 4 a year ago?
All far away but Insomniac Games making Wolverine? Yes
@sonicmeerkat @Ralizah As mentioned by @sanderson72, Project EVE is supposed to be coming to PS4 too (as well as XO, PC, XS etc.).
I wonder if they've either dropped the last gen versions (which I doubt) - otherwise, did it look a bit too good?
Going over it again, there's a few QTE which seem to almost be like rendered cutscenes (as was quite a bit of it) - although saying that FF7 Remake / Detroit: Become Human shows how pre-rendered stuff can look awesome on the last gen.
Will be interested to see extended gameplay trailers to see how it looks in general - and see what the PS4 version looks like...
@Pusher2021 I really can't wait to see the movement in it - I love the idea of being Wolverine, but my favourite part of Spider Man is the movement, the swinging from building to building and crossing Manhattan so quickly.
Interested to see how they adapt to Wolverine's strengths while not slowing the game down too much (as Insomniac generally have a pretty fast pace to their games) - I'm guessing it'll be open world again and maybe use vehicles?
@Widey85 I think the footage was definitely captured from the PS5 and that's what Sony will prioritise to show.
PS4 version will probably make EVE's bum look less shiny but not seen anything gameplay wise in the trailer that the 4 couldn't throw around...?
@sanderson72 Found news (DualShockers editor reports it was revealed in 2020) that Project EVE appears to be PC / PS5 / XSX / XSS now, looks like they ditched the past gen versions.
I remembered it being announced for PS4 / XO and was watching thinking I've no idea how they'd run it!
And yeah was more the graphics than actual level design I guess - was wondering how they'd get the base last gen consoles to run anything near those graphics
@Widey85 Well, that brings my PS5 exclusive must have games to er, 1.
TBH, most of the cut scenes looked pre-rendered and the action I don't think would've strained the PS4 too much if the res was lowered.
@Widey85 I'm sure they will nail it, like with Spider-Man. Don't know about open world for this one but who knows. If they pull this off they need to make a Superman game (don't know if the DC universe is a problem). Rocksteady is also a good candidate for a Superman game (there are rumors but WB rejected the first pitch I heard) It's difficult to make because he's too powerful. I hope to see this one day. Have bad memories of Superman 64
But we don't know how long Wolverine is in development. Sony approved it already so some work must be done in the early stages. 2023/2024?
After the first 30min of the show I was already preparing to give Sony a bit of backlash for showing mainly remasters, remakes, updates on already revealed games and not bringing out the "big guns" yet again.
Happy to see the last 10min saved the show.
What i like from what was shown overall:
of course. Gameplay wise, even graphically somewhat, it looks like a continuation of the first one , but with a lot of newly added elements (like riding a wolf-pulled sleigh). Hope the new director does at least as good a job as Barlog did... can't wait to try it out.
Unfortunately methinks it will have a Spring 2023 release date... since
March-April 2022 seems too early given that they didn't give a hint on this front
no God Of War was launched at the end of a year until now (for a late 2022 release possibility).
Ragnarok will be a larger game than the first one... and the first one took 4 years to develop. So this one will take 4-5 years at least.
is a very big surprise, very curious to see which way they go with it... for now it looks more like Old Man Logan than a younger Wolverine? I don't know, guess we'll find out next year in the first proper trailer.
is definitely a game to keep an eye out for. Graphically it looks amazing, and i like the overall gameplay and setting.
The rest of them are either remasters/remakes (nothing new) or i have zero interest in.
PS5 looks more and more like a sacrificed console, like a "PS4 Pro 2" instead of an entirely new console...
Aside from the worldwide stock availability problems that will not end until 2022-2023 at the earliest, most of the truly Next Gen games will be released very close to the PS5 Pro launch (which i guess will be somewhere around late 2023) By then PS5 will already be after it's lifecycle "peak", with only Horizon II, Returnal and Ratcet and Clank as it's main new AAA exclusives to show for it... an utter shame.
This event was a solid 6 for me. Wolverine news was a huge get...as is Knights of the old Republic timed exclusivity. But they didn't have gameplay to show for either...nor the new Spiderman. So if we so easily jump on Xbox shows for CG trailers and showing games that are years away we should be capable of keeping the same energy here.
Ghost wire Tokyo looked good. Deathloop didn't really need to be shown again. Alan wake just looked like how I remember it looking on the 360 (I know it will look loads better side by side but i guess I was expecting to see obvious graphical leap)... It's funny as half the games shown were actually Xbox games.
Forsaken, considering they keep hyping it as the best looking game ever it didn't really wow me...the faces just look stiff and 'off' at the moment.
God of war looked great...but again, I didn't watch it and think 'wow, this is a generational graphics leap over the last one'. And no release date.
Extinction? Why?
GTA just looked the same as it already does...I really had my fingers cross for a 'now in VR' - that's the only thing having me buy that for a third time.
So many things missing...and no Abandoned? Shocking.
So yeah, solid 6....Wolverine is going to be huge. Some bangers for 2023/4/5... What the hells coming next year that was shown? Gt7?
Btw I was 100% right in my predictions before the show.
Jim Ryan revealed a new haircut and some people got pissed.
@Widey85 Haha, another cross-gen game, huh?
Wow.
Yeah, definitely curious to see PS4 footage. Also really curious to see what Horizon Forbidden West looks like on PS4, considering it's a fair step up in visual fidelity from the previous game.
It was a great showing, finally. Very excited for KOTOR, Wolverine, Spiderman 2 and Dealthloop, primarily. 🙂👍
@Ralizah Potentially - seems last gen may have been ditched last year. Although still might mean it's had an impact on design till then, so will wait for in depth previews before making my mind up lol
Spiderman 2, Wolverine and God of War are all I care about. Not interested in another Remaster and tbh I don't feel like paying money AGAIN for a game I already own for SLIGHTLY better graphics.
@4RunnerX Same. I hope this Generation starts to tone down or stops doing Remasters altogether soon.
@DonJorginho i'm sure we will get a god of war event that will give us a little more info and hopefully a release date.
@Northern_munkey dude, I meant the games only, don't bite me! I was just talking about full exclusives
Too many movie games, not enough video games
2022 is full of awesome PlayStation games. I am stoked.
@AFCC that wasnt a bite..a bit of a nibble that was..a mild nibble..
@Bleachedsmiles @Dan_ozzzy189Interesting line up this time. Highlights for me were GoW:R, Spider-Man 2 and wolverine. Kotor and project Eve where also pleasant surprises.
Less enthused about everything else though. I mean Forspoken could be fun in theory but I’m not 100% sold it’s overlay familiar narrative yet. Ghostwrite: Tokoyo’s anime melodrama bollocks without context was a massive turnoff, while GOtG and Rainbow Six’s presences felt unnecessary especially since their parts felt like downgraded versions of their showcases from E3. The less said about GTA 5’s embarrassing excuse for an upgrade tease the better.
@Wilkens you realise the marvel games are not strictly following the MCU right?
@RubyCarbuncle only if they run out of classic games to remaster.
Insomniac are basically making all other Sony devs look a bit poop…
Edit - in terms of productivity I mean.
@EVIL-C @AndyKazama Same here.
@Blackjay Yeah typical Japanese gaming melodrama I know, but I still think Ghostwire looked promising. My only concern is that everytime they show it it's open areas which doesn't work for building atmosphere. I think it's clear it's not really a horror game...or a scary one at least.
Wolverine and Kotor...they're so far away I almost wish they didn't announce them. But totally get why they had to. They need to end the year with some momentum.
@Blackjay for sure
@Northern_munkey getting kinky in here, are we?
