Sony skipped all of the major conventions so far this year, deciding to host PlayStation Showcase 2021 on its own time – but did it make a difference to overall interest? Not a chance: the platform holder’s YouTube channel has been on fire since last night, with the livestream peaking at well over 600,000 concurrents and already attracting 2.8 million views. That’s without even mentioning the 270,000 who watched it in Japanese, and the various co-streams all around the web, including on platforms like Twitch.
In terms of trailer views, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was far and away the biggest winner, garnering 4.4 million views on the PlayStation channel alone. This is without being run as an ad roll, with some pretty impressive engagement to boot: it has 374,000 up-votes compared to just 1,900 down-votes. Extraordinary stuff, making it the number two trending video on YouTube as a whole – only The Matrix Resurrections is above it.
Here are the top ten trailers, in terms of YouTube views, from the PlayStation Showcase. Do keep in mind that we’re just taking into account the official PlayStation channel here – there are also huge numbers across Marvel, IGN, and more:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – 4.4 million
- God of War: Ragnarok – 2.4 million
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake – 1.5 million
- Marvel’s Wolverine – 1.3 million
- Grand Theft Auto V – 662k
- Gran Turismo 7 – 589k
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection – 506k
- Forspoken – 457k
- Project EVE – 412k
- Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – 334k
Based on these numbers, which are clearly going to continue to rise throughout the day, Sony does not need to be part of any major industry event like E3 2021 – they’re actually higher than a lot of what came out of the Los Angeles show earlier in the year. Which was your favourite trailer from the event? Let us know in the comments section below.

Wolverine for me.
A friend of mine sent me a list just before the show started. X-Men was on it, but I thought there was no way it would happen. I've wanted a Sony first-party X-Men game since I played the first Spidey.
As soon as that trailer started I knew what it was.
Lost my freakin mind.
I may have peed a little.
Edit: But there was a lot there that I'm excited about. I kind of feel spun around today looking at all of the trailers.
I had a Youtube at
Spiderman 2
God of War: Ragnarok
Gran Turismo 7
Project Eve
on my OLED tv at 4K and my god they all looked amazing, and all in game too.
The quality of graphics this early in the generation is staggering.
Why not? But the biggest surprise for me was that very short Wolverine announcement
That's what happens when you make actual decent games and create massive hype with sequels
Wow people sleeping on Project Eve that game by far impressed me more than anything else. No disrespect to the other games looked good but I was blown away by Eve.
Apparently Tony Todd is voicing Venom!

Damn GTA still top 5.
For me it’s still a X360/PS3 game that I played 2013!!
@Futureshark all is already on a very high Level but Ragnarok still looks highly familiar to God of war on the PS4. I can’t see a huge jump in visuals here - still a beautiful game nevertheless.
Definitely excited for GT7. Probably the only game I'll pick up at launch next year
Spider-Man 2 is the game I've been waiting for since the original. Though I am really curious as to what they're gonna do with Wolverine, I suspect I won't be a typical superhero game and all the better for it
Yes but remember...Push Square said its not enough...
@Reeneman GTAV was just people trying to spot the graphical differences Rockstar were claiming
It seems spider-man 2 and gow 2 will do really well sales wise
GOW was the one that got me excited. Basically the event was a success given global reaction. Every game in the trailer will be playable on playstation. Most people won't care about which are first party and which aren't.
I must be the only person still looking forward to Deathloop and I didn't mind seeing yet another trailer.
Admittedly one more trailer wasn't necessary but it hasn't put my nose out of joint.
I shouted out loud at that Wolverine reveal. Completely blindsided. The only other two times that's happened for me were the reveals for TLoU 2 and FF7 Remake.
They get a lot of (necessary) stick, but Sony knocked this one out of the park.
Project Eve is the one that impressed me most overall, that looks dope.
The Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 were the ones that got me hyped. Insomniac are special.
And a trailer that drew me back in after the last left me cold was Ghostwire Tokyo. That could be real good.
Funny...majority of a year of 'sony should communicate more'...they show a few CGI trailers of games years away in September and now it's 'they don't need to be part of e3' ect - which I agree with btw...if they needed to they would be. They haven't for years.
I do however think they should be. They've had nothing but waves of negativity for majority of the year...mostly due to whenever they have communicated it's come off as arrogant and ignorant. I feel dropping the occasional bone throughout the year would have helped them. It would have certainly prevented alot of the diehard fanbase placing on tin foil hats and convincing themselves abandoneds trolling is Kojima telling them he loves them for months.
Amazing numbers for Sony’s games. Also getting in the phenomenal Tony Todd as venom is a masterstroke. I’m also intrigued by wolverine, will it be a full out violent wolverine? Or a family friendly one. It also brings back memories of the excellent wolverine origins game on the ps3-loved the healing on that game.
Project Eve looks quite similar to Bayonetta and Nier. But the thing is the heroine looks quite out of place to environment and enemies. Sony’s approach to superheroes games are the best. While avengers style team up would be exciting, it would be quite difficult to nail down gameplay wise.
Project EVE looked so amazing for me is higher on that list
@Korgon Agreed. Project Eve was my "game of the show". The Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 announcements will end up being big deals for me in time since I'm a huge fan, but coming out of the show I'm most excited about Project Eve since it's coming soon while the wait for the Insomniac duo will be a long time.
I'm calling it now. Venom will be playable at some point in the story ala Ultimate Spiderman!
@pip_muzz
My favourite trailer was the FFXVI trailer they didn't show. 😭
Spidey and Wolverine are like my two most favorite Marvel superheroes and I'm so happy that Insomniac are working on both games. Can't wait!
The God of War trailer was far and away the highlight of the showcase for me. The rest don't even come close. They showed way more of it than I was expecting.
What’s the chances that Spider-Man could be co-op?
@Boucho11 I was hoping the same, but they mentioned in a tweet earlier that it's single-player.
It's still going to be amazing though.
@Shepherd_Tallon oh it will be. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this is something introduced
@Boucho11 It seems like a no brainer doesn't it? I've been hoping for it since the end of Miles. Hell, introduce Ghost Spider and let me select different characters. (I feel like asking for 3 player co-op is going too far.)
@Korgon Yes Project EVE was definitely the most interesting game in the showcase too.
In less than 24 hours,
Spiderman 2 is now at 5.4 million views
God of War: Ragnarok is at 3.2 million
Knights of the Old Republic is at 1.8 million
Wolverine is at 1.6 million
All these games will do monster numbers upon release. Sony is killing it.
I remember when the Horizon: Forbidden West State of Play came out, that did 4.5 million views in less than 24 hours as well.
Not surprising at all, happy the trailers are performing well.
