If you’re hankering for some old-school Tactical Espionage Action that doesn’t take itself too seriously, then UnMetal is the retro Metal Gear throwback you may be looking for. Due out on 28th September for PlayStation 4 (but playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility, of course), this tongue-in-cheek sneak-‘em-up sees you assume the role of 80s action hero Jesse Fox, as you attempt to escape a clandestine military base for a crime you definitely didn’t commit.
“Fox is a highly trained special forces soldier inadvertently embroiled in an unplanned mission to prevent an attack on NATO,” the press release explains. “Shot down, captured and questioned, Fox needs a way out with all the cunning and guile he can muster. Players conduct their subterfuge to escape incarceration by combining and crafting various objects discovered in the game world, including toilet paper (unscented, unpatterned, and single ply), circuit boards, rusty wire, and even a guards eye patch and glass eye.”
The trailer showcases all kinds of set-piece moments, such as a pixel art boat chase and even an underground sewer escape. “Distraction, sabotage, and combat will all come into play, and Fox will encounter different adversaries including enemy soldiers, attack dogs, hungry rats, and bigger more formidable heavily armed military hardware like tanks,” the press release continues. @playstation1995 Hi there playa, hows it going?
Yeah, the game looks cool and dumb fun.
And with MGS references, I´m all aboard.
Really hoping the PS5 showcase surprises us in a very positive way.
Cheers, stay safe and Word Up Son
Been curious to see this one in action! Technically this had also a limited physical Vita release but sadly missed the Vita submission deadline before the store was closed. Oh well,at least we get to enjoy it on ps4/5. Reminds me I have to get around to getting Ghost 1.0 by the same dev one of these days!
The name alone has me sold.
I've been keeping a solid eye on this one for a while. Looking forward to giving it a shot at some point!
Lol the sped up bit with that music reminds me of a video where someone played the gamecube version of the OG MGS and had that same music, they sped it up exactly like that as the guard went "Huh? Whose footsteps are these???" And then proceeded to walk around a crate in a circle for 40 seconds doing exactly the same thing over and over. Really made you see how dumb AI is if you don't put tons of effort in lol
Please be good, please be good! I’m all in in this!
I might take a look at this one as i was annoyed it didnt get a digital Vita release before submissions to the store were closed
This looks really good..reminds me of commando, ikari warriors and into the eagles nest...i'll have me some of this..
@Jayofmaya wasn't that Dunkey? Think the video is called solid gear metal and it's absolute gold.
@Robocod this is such a shame. I remember seeing it on a limited release for vita. You’d think Sony would allow things like this through if it’s technically already on Vita.
Lmao this seems right up my alley! I just wish that they would get David Hayter as the voice actor lol
@lolwhatno Hi there friend.
Yeah, I know it´s the internet.
But that´s just the kind of man that I am.
Maybe I´m just old fashion.
The game looks fun and bonkers. My kind of game.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
Hasn't this been out on PC for ages? Because I played this what must've been years ago, but maybe it was an early demo.
@lolwhatno Hey friend and thanks for the kind words.
They always mean something.
Isn´t it cool and interesting to talk about and even discussing a subject that we enjoy and or feel passionate about, and more so when there are different oppinions and trying to understand why you like this or dislike that?
Cause I do. Because it´s fun and good to do so.
Cheers, stay safe and all the best
@Johnnycide You're that Ninja... Thanks for reminding me of this one. I haven't watched it in years. The mine bit was pure gold. I also remember that part where he was playing with mud guard. Haha However, I have definitely seen another which does a similar routine but in fast forward with that sort of Benny Hill music. Metal Gear Solid explained video is really a solid source of intel for those who might have only played 5. I had no idea Eeyore was behind the whole thing, though. Kojima's twists are just endless.
Hilarious parody, I'll def give this a try down the line when it's dirt cheap.
