Call of Duty: Vanguard, for this author at least, feels like it’s flying under the radar – but make no mistake, it’ll be one of the biggest games of the year. And this story trailer, focusing on the first-person shooter’s obligatory single player campaign, certainly gets the juices flowing. It introduces the game’s cast of characters, all with unique specialties and from different walks of life, and tops it all off with plenty of set-piece spectacle.
It’d probably be unfair to expect anything other than five-hour rollercoaster through World War 2, but Call of Duty: Black Ops introduced some interesting wrinkles to the established CoD Campaign Formula™, and we’d hope for some similar surprises here. Has the trailer increased your anticipation for the upcoming Activision outing? Declare that war never changes in the comments section below.

I'm just gonna wait for Infinity Ward's COD next year
Very good trailer. Unfortunately I haven't been feeling like playing multiplayer shooters lately and I'm definitely not getting it for the campaign (which I'm sure will be very good but not exactly worth €80 for what you get out of it) so I'll pass for now (there's also the whole Activision thing which definitely doesn't help)
Hope 2042 smokes Vanguard. Watching 2042 vs Vanguard is going to be better than TDM in either game.
Trailer looks fine. I'll rent it and play the solo story campaign.
Activision Blizzard get my pulse racing for the wrong reasons.
Really wanted to see some gameplay... I watched the gameplay trailer at the one Geoff show awhile back but by now I'm looking to see some more gameplay scenes. Seeing these cinematics are cool, but if we're being honest, games on N64 had cinematics too. I want to see the damn game. At least some gameplay mixed in. Anyway, I'll check it out at some point. Most interested in the solo campaign.
@somnambulance I would have echoed your sentiment had I not played the 2042 beta; man, that was pretty rough. Never thought I'd say it but if I had to pick between the two, at the moment Vanguard would just inch out.
I mean I don't really want either anymore, but hypothetically.
@JB_Whiting I know a lot of people had issues in the beta, but it ran fine for me. I was really impressed overall, despite some issues with the game on a base level (seriously, what is up with having no discernible factions or foot movement sound? These are problems with Vanguard too, but weird problems nonetheless). I thought 2042 was more fundamentally fun between the two. Vanguard felt like a reskin of MW2019, which was great in 2019, but seems stale now. Vanguard was very much competent for me, but stale. 2042 felt fresh to me, but I also modified all of my settings to make it play as close to CoD as possible too. I came away from 2042 wishing it would have just made that mammoth map a BR too.
I know it sounds odd to say as a PlayStation guy mostly but I think this might just be Halo's year. If Vanguard gets a strong positive reception from players, I might buy it but after playing this beta, 2042's and Halo's flights, Halo seems the best.
I'll be waiting for Modern Warfare next year.
This looks interesting. Thinking of catching up on all the campaigns I missed soon back to back. Last one I played was Advanced Warfare.
At least the trailer is pushing a more cinematic narrative than usual and emphasizing characters somewhat. Hopefully they’ll have more depth than what’s showcased here but honestly I doubt it.
@somnambulance Vanguard killed 2042 alone by having a campaing. And the campaing looks cool even better. 😄
I would love to see a complete singleplayer collection fully working of the physical release. 😁
@themightyant I would so pay for a complete collection on disc.
@Flaming_Kaiser Different strokes here with me on that. Personally, I’ve never gotten invested into CoD or BF for the campaign. It’s all about the multiplayer for me with those games.
@Flaming_Kaiser Might be quite a few discs!!! lol
@themightyant You dont have to release them all at once. MW and BO as a set.
@somnambulance The Modern Warfare reboot what is it called the Modern Warfare 2019 that campaing was so awsome i loved it. The old MW 1,2,3 and Black Ops 1 was also awsome. So for me i wouls love to see these games get rereleased. You can keep the multiplayer of the disc and make it a download.
@Flaming_Kaiser Honestly, I sort of feel like CoD campaigns peaked with MW2. That was the last one I played start to finish (or World at War, not sure which one came out later and I’m not going to Google it to verify at the moment). I’d heard BLOPs 2 actually has the best campaign, but BLOPs 1 really sort of put me off the series for a while for some reason. I tried MW2019 and CW though, just didn’t finish.
Regardless of campaign though, I think CoD needs a Master Chief Collection style multiplayer pack for the old games. Put some new paint on MW1, 2, 3, World at War, BLOPs maps and I’d buy it for sure. TDM was at its best with those older maps, honestly.
I'm personally very excited for this game. Since the game is built off of Infinity Ward's engine, and based on my experience in the beta, the game plays wonderfully! I tried out the 2042 beta as well and wasn't particularly impressed with how the game felt to play, so CoD is an easy buy for me this year.
Cool trailer but there is one thing that bothers me everytime. Why would German people talk english when they are in between German officers? Just get german/russian etc etc actors to give it way more realism. I hate that in games and movies.
