Just when you thought February 2022 couldn't get any busier for new game releases, Elden Ring gets delayed from its original 21st January date to the 25th February. At just over a month's delay, it's certainly not the end of the world — but we're left wondering whether Elden Ring and other February 2022 releases like Horizon Forbidden West, Dying Light 2, and the new Saints Row will actually stick to their guns.
So what's the reason for the delay? Well, developer From Software writes: "The depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations. Thank you for your trust & patience."
Fortunately, it won't be long until we're besieged with new Elden Ring info, as the studio has confirmed that a closed beta test will begin this November. You can read more about that through this link.
Are you surprised to see Elden Ring get hit with another delay? Keep dreaming of that intricate open world in the comments section below.

Expected that anyway tbh since we didn't even have a second trailer yet 3 months before the previously planned release
Wasnt people thinking that games were actually going to be delayed out of the busy February month? haha.
I still see Saints row moving dates
I swear game developers just figured they could release every 2022 game in February.
Waiting to GoW: Ragnarok, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad to also get Feb dates any day now
man february will be wild.
HFW,elden ring,saints row.
damn the wallets lol.
Yeah, Horizon is winning that match up for both my Day1 cash and time.
GT is March, so I guess this goes to April.
That Miyamoto quote, you know the one. I don't mind a delay for extra polish.
Take your time! I know I’ll be consumed by it so a bit more time to prepare the better:)
@AndyKazama you can’t polish a turd. You can polish a ring though
Ouch! Poor Horizon first it was Breath of the Wild and now it's Elden Ring. I think I might have to pick up Elden Ring 1st but I'm not sure yet. That's a difficult choice!
@SystemAddict With a hard enough turd, you probably could polish your ring.
@Korgon Dark Soul 3 sold as many copies across all platforms as Zero Dawn on PS4. Elden Ring is no BOTW (which sold twice that).
@nessisonett you can polish an elden ring. Just a little more spittle
More time for me to enjoy grand theft auto The trilogy the definitive edition.take your time playas of from software and. Bandai namco.word up son
@Voltan
Sorry if I wasn't clear I wasn't making a sales comparison. I was just stating how Horizon can't seem to catch a break from highly anticipated titles releasing next to it.
@Texan_Survivor Took me ages to figure out what XOX was 😂
February is going to be an expensive month :3 both this and horizon need to be acquired
It’s cool. I find only annoying because it’s close to GT7 now. Unless they delay that one too ?😅
I think HFW will outsell this though.
@Texan_Survivor Excellent point. You also have to test PS4 on PS5, and XBONE on XSX sometimes. Sometimes you get crashes, and if you get a crash like that frequently that puts a pin in the project until it's resolved.
The only release in February I worry to be overshadowed is Sifu (22nd of Feb.). That game looks amazing. Sure hope Sifu is as much fun to play as to watch.
Risky going up against Horizon, considering the type if game Elden Ring is, horizon will win over every time on popularity, ill be having both but famn just not enough hours in the day 😭
Damn, February is stacked!
I'll be content with Horizon Forbidden West, though, and get Elden Ring (and maybe Sifu) down the road.
No worries more time for my backlog
LOL, well I guess that "leaked" gameplay footage didn't' go over very well eh FromSoft?
This will get delayed even further when they fully realize the release competition they put themselves in with the delay. Bummer, but I hope maybe they take the time to polish the game for PS5, so we aren't just playing a higher framerate ps4 reskin.
Kind of a bummer, my kid wanted it as a birthday gift - birthday mid-Jan - and then Horizon in February. HFW will likely get a delay but if not maybe we'll play "which 1 do we think will drop in price first?".
Course we still need a 5 for Christmas. 😝
Yay, more delays!
I bet Horizon FW will be the next one to be moved by a few months from it's 18 February 2022 date, to avoid launching alongside Elden Ring.
So glad I bought a PS5 to play PS4 games, 'cause at this rate the next PS5 AAA game we'll finally get to play will be released on PS5 Pro...
Here we gooooo Just as I predicted that most games that are supposed to come out next year will get delayed etc etc. I really don't get why people think we will get all the games next year for sure(ok this is still coming out next year tho) but I bet you some AAA games will get delayed into 2023. Oh well.
Not that I was getting this anyways as the Souls-like games aren't my thing at all. I don't have the patience, but if I was, then I definitely wouldn't be getting it on Day 1 now. No way I'm passing on Horizon Forbidden West for anything in February.
well this blows... the gap from Elden Ring to HFW was a good one for me, but ***** now it's only 3 days lol. o well guess ill need to find something else to fill the gap.
not smart moving this to Feb of all months imo.
@Shinnok789 Exactly. It really has been disappointing buying into the PS5. Almost al of the PS5 exclusives they sold us on are now cross gen and regardless of what we are told it is very clear it held back development of true next gen capabilities.
The next PS5 only exclusives aren't even on a near radar? At least none I can think of. I'm even more surprised that Sony just chose to phone in this holiday season with nothing lined up. Instead they are treating it like the actual release of the console. How many PS% exclusives actualy exist right now and in the near future? 4?
I know compared to PS4 its par for the course, but it is really a bummer to learn that everything on the Horizon that we were led to believe were PS5 exclusives turned out to not be so.
Hope this doesn’t lead to burnout at push square towers what with all these big games needing reviews writing at the same time 😉
Well that's a minor disappointment
One month delayed lets hope we dont get a Cyberpunk trainwreck we have not seen a lot yet almost next to nothing. 😬
No way will Dying Light 2, Horizon, and Saints Row 2022 all keep their dates... at least one of them will definitely move.
@KidBoruto Saints Row lol, why anyone would think Saints Row would outsell HFW, Elden Ring, or even Dying Light 2 is pretty hilarious.
Take all the time you need, in FromSoft we trust
I never care about delays, it’s a ridiculous thing to get wound up about.
Cyberpunk was a turd because entitled idiots had tantrums and threatened boycotts after delays. It wasn’t ready.
@Nepp67 I never said Saints Row would outsell any of them.
Just meant if they want to increase game sales it'd make sense to move the release date.
