Rockstar is removing the classic Grand Theft Auto games from the PS Store this week, and it looks like it may be expecting you to pod out for the recently announced round of remasters. According to UK retailer Base, compilation GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition could cost as much as £64.85 on the PlayStation 5 and £54.85 on the PS4.
Now, it’s worth stressing that this is very likely to be placeholder pricing from the store, and the label has yet to confirm anything official at the time of typing. Considering the company flogged the PS2 Classics for about £11.99 apiece on the PS Store, it’s going to need to introduce some significant enhancements if it intends to justify the abovementioned fees.

Rockstar’s said that it’ll announce more on these remasters soon, and with a release date pegged for 2021, we’re unlikely to be waiting long. VGC is already reporting that physical copies for the PS4 are targeting a 7th December release date, although it sounds like PS5 owners may have to wait until next year for a boxed version.
How much would you be willing to pay for the re-release of these titles? Put your money where your mouth is in the comments section below.

Not surprised.
GTA 5 is consistently in the top 10 most sold games list nearly 9 years later. People on forums and reddit will complain but Rockstar knows that people will pay whatever they ask.
Its going to be the most sold game/games the week it comes out regardless of the complaints.
Yeah no. I'll just emulate my PS2 copies on PC for free, thanks.
Retailers expecting full-price.
Retailers expecting no sales.
At that price I wouldn't touch this without overhauled visuals, improved controls and fully re-licensed music. I very much doubt all that has been implemented, though, so I'm anticipating giving this a miss.
Its must have some big enhancements because even they must know a bare bones remaster of PS2 games won't sell to the people who grew up with GTA Online and those grew up with the original PS2 games.
Well it better be more Graphically enhanced than what we got on the PS4....Otherwise what's the point.
Called it. I won't support Rockstar anymore.
Disgusting tbh, I knew this was a moneygrab and if this is true, I was indeed correct. Shadow of a company.
Anything more than 40 euros and I will wait for January sale.
If this is a Mafia-style remake across all three games, then hell mf yes take my money.
If its a Mass Effect style remaster (which I loved, btw) then nah, £30 max.
In fairness this likely is a place holder. Kena was 70 quid at Base when they listed it, and is now £32.85.
They tend to do this when a game has been announced, but a release date is pending - until such time the publisher confirms the details.
Bizarre. Unless there’s the mother of all remasters.
Honestly I would like to see some gameplay before judging the game price l. If the improvements are there like the graphical and controls improvement examples and then I guess it is fine it is $60 considering you are getting 3 games in one
I'm fine with full pricing IF we get a real graphical upgrade!
@Netret0120 judging from comments from pushsquare and purexbox, a lot of people aren’t too happy with this collection being $59.99
You can't complain if you buy FIFA or CoD every single year. All the same it'd be nice if this isn't full price.
Three remastered games for a full price?
Was that not Mass Effect?
Judging based of no information on what the remasters entail but expecting to pay buttons for it. The entitlement continues to baffle me.
Just don't buy it and move along. It’ll be “better priced” in no time i’m sure.
Meanwhile, Bioware released ME:LE for 60USD, and they actually did a lot of work on that one, especially on the first game.
Knowing Rockstar, this will be a lazy port with upscaled resolutions and maybe a couple of control tweaks.
Show the games and then we'll talk about price. Because that can be an excellent price or an extremely bad one.
I really hope its not full price but knowing Rockstar it will be. Need to actually see some footage of these improvements tho
Zero dollars if the the ps5 trailer for GTA 5 is any indication of the Level of effort they are putting into these cash grabs.
They'd have to have done a significant amount of work on the remasters do justify that price, and rockstar probably haven't.
I don't mind paying $60 for a physical copy. $20 per game sounds fine to me 🤷♂️. Actually I'll be double dipping. 1 copy for PS5 and another for Switch. Just give me a physical release please.
Rockstar need to announce a physical edition .if not I will get the digital version. Can't wait for this 3 legendary games.word up son
@EquiinoxGII every game sold ever is a money grab. It is an attempt to make you part with your money. Could argue the more "fairly priced" games are more of a money grab because they successfully grab yer money 😂
@BigJoze it's true my Misses can go to poundland and easily spend £30 on tat.
As I commented previously, seeing the likes of L.A. Noire still go in the region of $45 odd down under even when it does have a psn sale,(& not that much difference to its ps3 counterpart),this wouldn't surprise sadly!😕
Would want to have the full soundtracks restored but I'll make do with the gimped versions on ps4 I already own,& hope my ps2 versions are still playable on my ps2 fat console meantime!
Will wait & see how the remake shapes up.
I’m more than happy to pay that. Like a few have said, I’ll be getting it twice. One for PS5 and another for the Switch. I can’t wait.
Nintendo got away with it so they figure they will, too. And they're probably correct.
I hope whenever they show how it looks it looks and plays substantially better because if it really is just a bare bones port of the PS2 games...yikes. I don't think that will go well with the fans. 😂
It all depends on what's changed they'd need some significant Graphical updates,QOL improvements and of course a higher frame rate
$0. Make new games
It's fine ONLY if it's on the same (or better) level of the Mass Effect trilogy with overhaul everything! I don't really see the current Rockstar putting that much effort but let's see anything's possible 🤷
Lol. They're dreaming. No way they've done the kind of work that would warrant full price for this. If they had we would have gotten more than a couple paragraph press release to announce the game.
I'd be willing to pay $0. Gta5 and rdr2 were already clunky (even if it is intentionally designed that way and are great games despite it). Just don't think I can go back to the ps2 controls.
Not a chance in hell will I pay that kind of price, just for a few enhancements.
Easy Pass from me. Played these games my whole life. I'd like to play a new one.
@Number09 nothing to do with the article but i just have to say that is one cool pic..steve strange R.I.P.
i'm willing to wait to see what they've done to the game first. if its just a lazy pc to console port then meh, if they actually changed things up , i'll be willing to consider it.
@nessisonett
What would be more worth the cost is not a large graphic remaster. But, stay with me here…San Andreas online
Games aree godamnawfull dated and btw this trilogy is true example off overrated games if i have seen any in my life. Who ever gives money for this is a sucker
@BigJoze yeah I see what you mean, but these games are generations old now, they should technically be more reasonably priced.
@EquiinoxGII i know, I doubt they'll be this expensive. If they are, they'll come down in price eventually. They've been cheap for years in their current state so can't complain. Hopefully whatever they're priced at reflects the effort put into them, so if they're expensive, then I'd hope they would look really good and have improved gameplay
Hey if they're actually in Unreal, look at least as good as GTAV and play similar, sure. If they're just HD versions with trophies, I'll pass on the $70.
I love that none of you read the actual article. Those prices could very well be placeholders. Maybe not but at least read the whole articles instead of jumping to angry comments after having just read the headlines.
If they included the Liberty City and Vice Stories, with great graphics, and modern feel of the game maybe for $40 would be worth but $60? idk.
Anyone wondering why they delisted the originals in the PS store here’s your (unsurprising) answer 🙄
My thinking is:
Rockstar announce Remasters for current consoles and will be deleting old remasters from digital stores - new customers buy old remasters as they want the original experience.
Price leaks for new remasters pushing people on the fence to purchase the old remasters thinking it's a bargain, as not much will change in gameplay and graphics.
Rockstar release new remasters and not much has changed. Those few people thinking Rockstar would do an amazing update to each game are disappointed and wait for a sale.
£55? Are they off their rocker? These games were originally PS2 games for Christ sake! 😡😣😣
What price were people expecting? We don't have visuals or anything showing it off yet but the ps2 ports are already like $35-40 for the collection and $15 for each game. Did you think it would be the same price or cheaper for a full remaster? (Again pending actual footage of the games)
Do ppl in here go to they jobs and work for free? Put in x amount of hours and get a $0 check?
Rockstar: "Let's remove the PS2 ports and offer a slightly better version at the current high prices! They will throw money at us for years!"
Me: "No thanks Rockstar, I've still got a working PS2."
It's standard practice that retailers price games at full RRP as a place holder when they don't know the actual price. To headline an article like this, sorry got to say it, is pure clickbait.
OK I will happily pay £120 if they have been improved graphically and some enhancements added plus the original Musik.....so I'm thinking this is just the olde PS2 Games repackaged for PS5 with added 1st person view ............has anyone got actual footage we need footage you Rockstar guys...........if they had been cough@!#ENHANCED#cough@! ROCKSTAR Would have shown footage the fact it's all quiet on the Western front is it's simply a PS5 upgrade gimmick nothing to see here.
I’m reserving judgment for now until we know more.
My only concern is that they keep all the old songs in Vice City. If they have trouble with the licensing or take MJ out for example, I won’t buy it.
These are all things we’ll hear about closer to release though.
@Integrity remakes and remasters are often sold at "budget" retail prices, such as N. Sane Trilogy that retailed for $39.99. Therefore if GTA Trilogy is going to be the same RRP as a first-party, brand-new, title, it is very much newsworthy. Not clickbait.
@antdickens right. So you've made an assumption. No problem with that. You could be right that it's 40 quid.
But the article headlines states, I paraphrase, 'retailers are expecting this game to be full price' just because they put full RRP as the price. And I'm saying this is standard practice and NOT indicative of the retailer expecting anything at all. They always use full RRP as a placeholder when they don't know the price.
Gamers: "There's no way they'll charge that, people aren't stupid"
Rockstar: "Sorry, what did you say? We were too busy printing Shark Cards"
I would pay maybe £29.99
@Integrity @WizzNL retailers expecting it to be full price instead of budget is the point here, indeed. They are rarely wrong on the matter when release isn’t far away - not the same as a placeholder. If it was a budget price it’s likely Rockstar would have said it at reveal. Hopefully shouldn’t be long for a firm confirmation.
Apparently, the games have been remade using the unreal engine, so if thats true id expect a total overhaul or what would be the point?
@antdickens eh? Which retailers? Which retailers are expecting it to be full price? So far only 1 retailer has done anything for a start. All I can see from the article is some YT streamer making an assumption based on the base.com placeholder price. Am I missing something or misunderstanding?
This article says..' According to UK retailer Base, compilation GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition could cost as much as £64.85 on the PlayStation 5 and £54.85 on the PS4.' ....and then goes onto say this could be a placeholder. That price has not been chosen by base.com to indicate anything. Its not a case of base saying it COULD be full RRP. That's PS making an assumption, even if they turn out to be correct in the longrun.
Theres been nothing said by ANY retailer about what they do and don't expect.
Again, It is standard practice to use full RRP as a placeholder used by retailers when they don't know the price. Please show me where you are reading that retailers are expecting anything at all. 👍
I'm not arguing with you by the way, this is just a difference of opinion.
For the record knowing Rockstar I bet its more than full RRP and its classed as a special edition 😆
Removed - unconstructive
Yeah I am gonna be honest if this really ends up being $75 this is gonna be a hard past for me. At least till a sale, especially if they dont do anything to the games but bump the resolution.
Can you please get someone to moderate your Facebook page? there are some really annoying people on there. I won't get into it here but please get someone to Moderate the page ASAP.
@RubyCarbuncle isn't that all of FB? ...and Twitter....and....
@Integrity I believe I made that part clear. Just Facebook. I don't want to go off topic here anymore. I just wanted to get their attention on the matter is all.
Remastered versions of three of the PS2's best games? Seems fair to me. I'm all in on the Switch version.
@RubyCarbuncle I'm just kidding with you.
...have you sent up a flare yet?
Please stop buying. Pretty please.
@RubyCarbuncle sadly a lot of facebook pages are like that these days. i've seen alot of pages be over run with link spam , including fake merch scams. sadly a good amount of people on facebook really don't understand these aren't real.
Why don't they just list it as 'price TBC'
Haha I hope this is a placeholder price as no way am I paying £65 for this lol
@Integrity Oh my bad. Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is having a dig or joking when you just have text on screen.
@twitchtvpat That is true sadly.
@Dodoo They better have serious upgrades in place to justify this otherwise why bother? you can buy them already for a fraction of the Price here.
@RubyCarbuncle no problemo 😁👍
Deliver in making these restylings/reboots/remasters feel as good as first day and I’ll happily pay full price of one game for the 3. Otherwise they’ll be back to 11 a piece in one year. Hope not 🤞🏻
With the games also hitting Switch, Android and iOS my expectations are in the ground and below, we shouldn't expect any drastic changes unfortunately.
il be getting them on ps5 and steam. i played these tje 1st time they were released still have the discs happy memories lol
@RavenWolfe81 there's already ps2 ports on ps4 with trophies and there not £60/$60 probably won't be much better than them currently £11.99/$15.99 each or set price for trilogy like £28.99 however ps5/ seriesX versions probably be around 50 or free with gtav expanded and enhanced versions Rockstar would deffo put out three at £$70
Way I see it, if they make good changes, don't skimp on the licensed music and don't cut or change content for hyper-sensitive 'modern audiences,' I'll go full price. If it's not a great improvement graphically, if the gameplay is still clunky, content is changed or cut and a good amount of licensed music is cut, I won't buy it. Really that simple. Nobody should be surprised the collection will be high priced. It's GTA, very few franchises are up there in recognition like this one.
Why would you pay for 15 year old games, a potato PC or laptop could run those now, it's even on phones now.
I don't understand why people keep buying these ancient games, what you have nothing to play that came out in the last 2 years?
Really we should all be boycotting Rockstar until they release a current game, instead of shilling 15 year old junk.
Maybe then these casual gamers or 10 year Olds that are buying them will actually stop because it's not cool to play GTA and nothing else like a gamer noob.
All 3 game should be £60 each + you HAVE TO buy GTA5 PS5 version for £100 to...I LOVE Rockstar Keep making all your Fans lose faith in you
Didn't think Rockstar would be greedy, if only we had some sorta microtransaction filled clue.
as some others have already posted, this remastered collection will also be ported to the switch. this means that we should all expect a bare minimum remaster here and nothing more. this is not news worthy at all and likely won't even be a step up over the ps2 classics on ps4 releases.
I'll be waiting for a sale if they try charging full price for PS2 ports...unless they are legit remakes.
Skipping this one for sure.
If its up to RE2 remake standard no problem paying full price, crash and spyro standard ill go for 40euro max, an upscale "graphic enhancement" they go play with traffic.
Depending on how much work is put into this then maybe £25 for the trilogy for PS4, £30 or £35 for PS5. No way in hell am I paying £65 or £70 for ports with some improvment. I'd expect a full blown remake/reimage for that price and even with that, it should cost £5/£10 less than a brand new game.
If that's the price they want to release it, then I'm happy to skip it until it eventually reaches my biting point. There's plenty of other great titles to enjoy instead until then.
If I hadn’t played them before, and they’ve had a massive HD/next gen overhaul, the trilogy at full price would be well worth it. Even having played the originals, I’d be tempted the get this in a sale (again, with a graphics and performance overhaul).
Vice City was so nostalgic from the C64 loading screen to the soundtrack to the Miami Vice overtones. Loved it. Then San Andreas, while not being set in a world I know too much about (hip hop, gangs, etc) was such a jump in scale and graphics it was easy to get lost in.
If the games have been given a significant visual makeover and they've fiddled with the gameplay to make them... well... playable, then I'll chuck money at this, no questions asked.
If it's just an up-res of the PC port with some new controller mapping then I'm binning this.
All you people feigning outrage at the possible price and saying you won't buy it... you will.
It's the same every time and it's exactly why it'll be this price, because you all have no self-control or ability to stand your ground.
Same with microtransactions.
Don't buy games at full price, games come down in price. Simple maths.
Rockstar has become a parody of of the parodies they used to make in those PS2 games. Can't make that up.
Should be £40 max tbh. Only the finest remasters (like mass effect) can justify a full price game.
@Yaycandy I played the GTA SA online mod on the pc back in the day was alot of fun but if rockstar put online in SA officially they'd monetise the S*** out of it & ruin it
@Loftimus these versions are coming to mobile aswell so I wouldn't expect anything great
@Would_you_kindly I'll be buying them regardless. I platinumed the ps4 versions this year and the radio stations are more relevant now than they were 20 years ago. As long as they look better I'll be happy.
@TheArt Still COD has a new campaing every time and when its not there im not buying that either.🤪
And if its really a barebones remaster (which i dont know if thats the case) then i rather have the PS2 games back. And if Vice City lost the music then it will be even a bigger waste of time.
@Pompey71 I have not bought GTA 5 plus nothing after Vice City so i could life without it.
@TeapotBuddha they said they would update the controls
@TeapotBuddha I hope at least the shooting is better!
@Falkirk4life I never bothered with those versions so I didn't know they had trophies. Haha, even less work for Rockstar to do.
