Here’s your first look at Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the new movie starring Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield. Unlike the Milla Jovovich flicks, this is sticking closer to the source material, meaning there are an abundance of references to the original PlayStation game, including the iconic scene of the zombie looking over his shoulder.
The editing is strange, the song selection is dreadful, and the special effects are all over the place, but there’s a corniness to the trailer which genuinely represents the source material. Whether it’ll hold up over 90 minutes is up for debate, but we can see this being a silly cinematic romp. It’ll hit US cinemas from 24th November, with the UK release date following on 3rd December.
Thoughts?

Looks promising I'm a big fan of resident evil & I love that they've included lisa Trevor she's one of my favourite resident evil monsters
It looks like if the original Resident Evil movie was made by people who actually played the game! The lickers look fantastic!
I don't know why you're being harsh with it. Looks like a polished bit of B-movie fun. What do you want to see, Michael Bay explosions? Zack Snyder super slow-mo? Don't know if its something I'd watch but the fact that its low-budget and sticking so close to the look of the game is a big plus for me. And the music wasn't awful 😁👍
Looks like a film for us gamers. Some of them scenes looked straight out of the re2 remake. Will definitely watch this but maybe not at the cinema. Maybe it’ll be available on PVOD on release.
I'm not sure how I feel about this trailer. Some of the CGI looks meh. Leon still doesn't look and feel like Leon. Same can be said with Claire....heck I think pretty much the entire cast doesn't look and feel like the OG characters.
Not saying this will be a bad movie and I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. The atmosphere does make this look like a legit horror movie.
@Integrity Not being harsh on it at all! Trailer is cheesy, but Resident Evil is a cheesy series so it works!
@Amin1998 All the press materials stress "exclusively at cinemas" so probably not for a few months.
I have to agree Sammy song choice is a bit peculiar.....Imma spend today seeing if I can track down any Japanese movies of these Games.....I'm thinking the script writers took an hour to write this I mean it's not like they have to imagine much.
@get2sammyb oohhhh I thought you didn't like it 😊 see my girlfriend says my feet are cheesy so I assumed she doesn't like them. This is good! I'm going to stick them in her face right now...she loves them and I've denied her for so long!!
@Number09 I wouldn't worry about the script. If its crap that's perfectly in keeping with the source material. In fact they did it justice!
@Jackpaza0508 the director himself played the games and is a huge fan of it. We ought to thank him
I actually like the actor playing Claire, but wow the rest of it looks bad. The CGI looks worse than the last resident evil movies, and lets be real, those were bad.
But hey you can tell they tried to put in some iconic moments from the first game. So kudos to that, but payin to see this isnt happening.
@KundaliniRising333 that actress looks familiar...but not familiar enough for me to bother doing a search.
It looks a hell of a lot better than I was expecting.
The CG was poor in parts, but everything else was great. I loved the 4 Non Blondes track thrown in there for some 90s nostalgia too.
The "Itchy Tasty" reference and the iconic head turn, very nice.
I think this horse has bolted why seek to rectify things a couple of decades after the fact? It’s not a throwback 40 to 50 somethings need in their lives right now
it looks so 90's, i love it!
This looks a lot of fun. This is what I hoped the first ever movie looked like. First movie was terrible.
I'm down. Looks just as ridiculous as the games.
Leon looks nothing like Leon and dont get me started on Jill what a joke of a casting....
Well we need to get some political correct garbafe in there im skipping this.
Okay that actually looks pretty good. Sh*t but good. I’m all over that.
You know what?, that actually looked pretty good. Really wasn't expecting that.
And yeah, the cheesy b-movie aethetics of the original games is what made them work, so it makes sense that it helps make this work too.
I'm also a horror cheese fan, one of the reasons I enjoy the Doom movie.
Yeah that looks really stupidly good. Awful but absolutely dead on with its source material!
This movie looks like a huge step up from the Paul Anderson films with how it's treating it's characters and lore. The visual effects don't look half bad either, for a smaller film at least. Hopefully, it can be a dumb fun action thriller romp, even if it's got some cheesiness. I'm ready for my Jill Sandwich 🥪
Cheating though they clearly have more firepower than we ever did in the original RE!!
I'll watch it no matter how bad it is. Looks ok though.
@Number09 Taking a old pop song and making it slow and mysterious has been a fad in trailers over the last few years, but thankfully those covers seldomly end up in the actual film (cough black widow cough).Trailers are usually made externally, oftentimes baffling the director by misrepresenting or spoiling the movie.
Dunno why no one likes using robotics and prosthetics like they did in the old days before cg. Or did they get too damned expensive? I recall something about baby yoda costing millions.
This looks ridiculous... in the best kind of way. Also, the trailer music made me laugh out loud as I watched it.
Is that a HUNK reference there at the beginning of the trailer? (The guy in the gas mask?) And where is Wesker?
This looks AWFUL. I love it lol
The cgi is SyFy worthy! Why can't Sony make movies as good as they make games? lol
I will still have fun with this though
@UnlimitedSevens Black Sails/Game of Thrones/Umbrella Academy's Tom Hopper is Wesker, he's in the trailer.
Weird song choice and questionable CG in parts, but it looks WAY more like what I would imagine a Resident Evil movie would look like, so I'll probably give it a chance.
The original games were cheesy as well, after all.
Yeessh. That was, something. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. I mean the song choice is super weird - just the cutting in general actually - such a sloppy trailer.
I'm worried that covering RE 1 & 2 in like 90 minutes means there's not a lot of room for tension building. Still, grab a few beers and mates and this could be so bad it's good entertainment.
@tameshiyaku Yeah I think took off after The Social Network used a choir cover of Radiohead's Creep. That was a genuine shift in trailer design (along with Inception's BWAAAHHM). But now studios just throw any old song in there and hope it works. This one does not.
4 non blondes and the annoying chick from skins... hmm...
I'm down, looks fun. I like Kaya Scodelario and Robbie Amell just fine, and love Tom Hopper and Hannah John-Kamen.
Itchy. Tasty.
@Integrity It wasn't a bad version of the song, but it should have been the amazing 90s house version known to be on the he-man meme video. I still occasionally put that video on when drunk enough.
@Integrity Also, I don't know if I believe you about your partner and feet. One morning, when you're least expecting you will awake to the site of a bare ass, just letting one rip before you can figure out what's even happening.
@Ward_ting Was going to make a comment about it looking more like what I'd hoped the first and second Jovovovovovovich movies would be, so personally I wanna see this. Surprised they're not going for a later october release, though. Probably too many other horrors to compete with.
Yeah no, proof that Hollywood drops the ball for 99% of video game movies. We should not touch games with a 10 foot stick.
@Jayofmaya ahhh yes. Thats my special birthday morning treat 🤭😊
The song or the brazilian fetish? Well, don't worry. I got you covered. I have messaged your partner and told her to play this link on your special day. https://youtu.be/ZZ5LpwO-An4
Cheesy as hell and ugly CGI, but at least it's more faithful to the video games.
I'll probably still watch the movie at some point.
@Zag_Man not a wonderful movie? Then go watch paul w s Anderson's version
@Flaming_Kaiser hush clown
@Flaming_Kaiser ok babe
