In its latest company briefing, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it's aiming to release the PlayStation 5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the first quarter of 2022. The developer reveals that it'll also be launching a "major" update on all platforms alongside the next-gen edition. There are no details on what this patch will include, but it's assumed that this is what the studio has been working on over the last few months.
CDPR also notes that the restructuring of its teams is an ongoing process. The company has been significantly reshuffled and expanded following the release of Cyberpunk 2077 around this time last year. There's no doubt that the game's disastrous launch scuppered the studio's plans, and it's still feeling the effects 12 months later.
Still, at least the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 isn't that far off. We just hope that CDPR finally delivers an experience that functions properly on PlayStation consoles.

I actually can't wait for it. Want an excuse to play through again for the first time. Can understand people being upset about the state it was in if they bought it at launch, but it's such a great game and you can get it dirt cheap now too.
It’s on sale for a few more hours at 19.99
Do you recommend, I’m on PS5

I don't care if its £1.50. I'm not purchasing this on PS5 until I see reviews.
That being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing how CDPR redeem themselves with this update.
@NateGoesLive $10 physical at Gamestop for Cyber Monday, actually.
I’m one of the suckers who bought it on PS4. Is this going to be a free upgrade? I’m not paying for this game twice.
@Spiders Theyve said many times, free upgrade for ps5 owners.
Interesting to wonder how it will be updated. The game on PS5 currently runs at 60fps @ 1080p, so I am hoping it's actual 4K at 60fps.
If they add ray tracing, it will probably be in the current 1080p mode, not 4k + ray tracing.
I know they scaled back the people and stuff in the game, are they adding people back in? Can they still hit 4k/60fps with all the assets added back in? I wonder what needs to be sacrificed to get up to 4k.
I am sure loading times will be very speedy, so that will be a bonus.
I was going to grab it on sale this week and just start playing, although they actually seem to be on track this time, so I may wait.
I don’t want to fall for it again after being a Day 1 buyer BUT I’ve got a good feeling about this. It’s been radio silence apart from the head ponchos making announcements and no updates until the big next gen one; I think we might finally have a full game early next year…
I’ll give it a go if they give it away with PS Plus.
Is there going to be a retail PS5 release?
I really loved this game and actually played through all the bugs and crashes to get the platinum trophy, so I hope there will be some new DLC missions in the near future, and you'll be able to import your PS4 save files.
I'm expecting visuals on par with PC, with ray tracing and higher npc counts.
Unless they've completely rewritten parts of the code that govern npc and police behaviour I can't see much else changing.
I guess the one co-op working on this and Witcher 3 remasters needs a little more time.
@frankmcma I’m thinking the same. Considering it’ll take multiple playthroughs so I might do one now then another when it has a true PS5 release
I'm sure they know, but it would go a long way if merely driving and shooting actually felt good. It really felt like it could be a good GTA or Deus Ex at times, if the guns and cars felt right.
I bought it stupidly cheap months ago after borrowing my brothers and playing it to see if it was really as bad as everybody made out..turns out it really isnt but i'm waiting for the ps5 upgrade before i invest my hours in it..
Just bought this now! Today's the last day on sale. I know Sony will probably lock it behind £70 Digital Deluxe edition and completely REMOVE the Standard Edition when this PS5 version releases, like how they're treating GoT and DS Director's Cut.
@NateGoesLive do it! I've watched extensive gameplay videos of the patched version and looks really good.
@Tf20 Even after the bugs it's such a shell of what they promised.
So the game will finally maybe be finished 1.5 years after its release. Cool
I don’t believe a thing they say. But even if it is true we all know it won’t be rtg, it’ll require months of optimisation till you get the full experience
Yea still not convinced, going to wait for reviews about how it runs. Luckily cancelled my PS4 pre order few weeks before release as I had my ps5 and thought that assassin's creed would be better. But definitely not pre ordering this.
It will be interesting to see where they choose to release this. I'd avoid February like the plague though if they can because Horizon and Elden Ring would likely drown it out in the conversation.
Like it or not though if you enjoy Western RPG's on Playstation hardware you should root for CDPR to redeem themselves as them and Ubisoft are pretty much the last 3rd party devs that operate in that space.
@kcchiefsfan81
Could be but why would you as you can probably pick up the ps4 version for around 20 which will probably be even cheaper when this is out, while if they release a ps5 will be full price bit pointless paying all that extra when the upgrade is supposed too be free.
@TheArt what the hell are you talking about? If that happens, that would be because CD Projekt wants that, not Sony. CD Projekt is the one setting the price, adding deluxe editions, etc. on the PS store, not Sony. Same as any other publisher.
@frankmcma I know why you think they did; but they didn't scale back the people (or anything else) in the game, at least not like you are thinking they did. They scaled them back on specific performance profiles (notably last gen hardware). This shouldn't have any direct impact on the current gen systems any more than it did on the PC.
As for performance, there is no way they are going to come anywhere near 4k@60 without some heavy compromises. My guess is that they are going to do what most AAA titles are doing this generation: a performance mode with a lot of the visuals turned down, with an aggressive resolution scaling and a quality mode that tries to maintain 30+ with a less aggressive resolution scaling and a lot of the bells and whistles turned on.
@NateGoesLive it's a good price, although I'd recommend waiting until the next gen version arrives before playing it.
@rpg2000 Well, same thing!
Typo. Should be Q1 2077.
I do want to play this, but thankfully I am blessed with incredible patience - so I always said I would wait until it was in a much better state, even if that meant waiting a year or two. Hopefully this 'major' update is worth waiting for...
Played it on PC (only version worth playing at launch) and loved it.
Hoping for some story DLC soon. Something with Goro Takemura (should get his own game) or Panam Palmer.
PS4 could never play this game how it should be played. Lets see what happens on PS5.
@thedevilsjester Yes they will probably do that for resolution.
Something like AC Valhalla or any number of PS5 games:
Dynamic 2160t (2160p) (Quality) 30 FPS
Dynamic 2160t (1600p) (Performance) 60 FPS
Full res for 30, turned down a bit for 60. I always want 60fps these days so that is the mode I will most likely be playing at.
Hopefully everyone has their expectations in check, this is not gonna look like the PC version, but I am sure it will look pretty great and certainly in line with other PS5 games.
As for the "less people" yes I did hear that and yes it seems I am wrong. I also remember something about road wetness adjustments...but my memory is even hazier around that...
@frankmcma You weren't wrong about the adjustments, the tweaks you mentioned did happen; but they were for last generations hardware profiles. The PS5 version isn't just the PS4 version with the resolution increased; it's a completely separate platform with its own performance profile and considerations. Don't let the fact that we have backwards compatibility and digital upgrades fool you into thinking the two versions are more closely related than they are.
I know some people have written it off as trash no matter if it gets improved or not, but I'm still excited to finally play it at some point soon. I could probably install it on my Series X right now and enjoy it well enough since that's the console it seems to play best on right now, but I've waited this long, so I might as well wait a few more months.
Which console I play it on is the only question, as I did pick it up on Xbox last week even though I already have it still sealed and waiting for PlayStation. It was only $10, so it's a very little extra investment if the new gen version got delayed again and I ended up wanting to play it before then (obviously before this announcement was made).
Just bought this again before the PSN sale ends. I pre-ordered it last year but then refunded after launch when the game sucked. I knew they would fix it eventually and I can get it cheaper down the line. The game already looks and plays great on PS4 slim although the city looks like a ghost town in most areas now. Looking forward to update 1.5 and PS5 upgrade.
I wouldn't say i'm excited but i'm very interested in the next gen version, i got the game again when i got a PS5 but have only put in a handful of hours so i think i may just hold off now.
One of my motivations for getting a PS5 was to at least be able to play the game properly when the next gen version drops.I got my PS5 in July...at least the delay helps out people who need to get a PS5 first. I expected the game to be my fave of the year before it was released.
I bought on release, completed within a week and got my refund on PS5. Big letdown and I can't see myself ever returning back to this game.
@NateGoesLive Yes, yes, yes! It plays really well and looks great. Well worth £20. Plus the upgrade will be free.
Bought on PS4 at launch. Yes it had issues, but nothing game breaking. For me it was no more or less quirky than a new Bethesda game. Still love it and was considering a replay but might wait now and see if we get a free PS5 upgrade.
@Legacy2K You say “completed”. I’m guessing you didn’t max out upgrades, get the best vehicles, finish all story threads, find awesome elite cyber gear and devastating weapons.
You just got an ending, right?
@Andywax I am glad that you had a good experience, but I will have to disagree. Yes, it had game breaking issues at launch on PS4, and sometimes I was praying for a no 'console breaking' issue.
Uninstalled and shelved it to a future day. And said that I will only reinstall it when the game is at its optimum state, but I guess at this point this is like seeking the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I hope that this promessed upcoming "major update" will motivate me to reinstall the game and give it another go.
I'm down, I've been waiting to come back all year after getting that Platinum last December.
@NateGoesLive well I played it on PC. Game is a technical marvel, no doubt about that. I paid 50 or sth like that and I didn't regret at all.
Besides technical glitches here and there, the city feels dead. At no point the NPCs feel even a bit important. Main story is okay and side missions are not that bad. As many have said, just feels too empty. Snack vending mschines you can't use, buildings you can't enter, vendors etc etc.
The lore is there, graphics, sound everything is on point but something is missing...
Game only cost me $10 so can't be disappointed either way, looking forward to the free upgrade.
@hulkie I guess I haven’t exactly been following with bated breath haha. Thanks for the info!
