Guerrilla Games will be full steam ahead working on Horizon Forbidden West right now, but studios of this size usually have future plans bubbling away in the background. We've no doubt that work may have already begun on the developer's next title, and judging by a new job listing, it's possible it could go the route of live service.
A new post is currently advertising for the role of Project QA Lead, and it appears to be unrelated to Aloy's sophomore adventure. "Develop testing strategies and plans, and lead a QA team for an unannounced future project," the description reads, telling us that the studio is making plans for at least one new game.
What's most interesting is that Guerrilla wants to fill this senior position with someone familiar with GaaS, or Games as a Service. The team is recruiting somebody with "at least 3 years of experience in a Lead or supervisory role in games QA, ideally on an Online, GaaS or Live Services project". While that doesn't tell us a whole lot about this future game, it does suggest the Amsterdam studio will be exploring live service in some form with its next project.
This is as much information about the game as we have right now, so speculating on what it might be wouldn't get us very far. We do at least know that Sony has gone on the record to say it wants to improve its multiplayer offerings, so perhaps Guerrilla will re-enter this space. It does make some sense — the developer does have online multiplayer experience with its Killzone titles. We recall rumours of a multiplayer title floating around a while back.
We don't want to read too much into this, as it's only one job listing and plans may change. However, we wouldn't be at all surprised to see some GaaS elements popping up in Sony's future PS5 projects. Anyway, what do you think about this? Tell us in the comments section below.

Firesprite also put up new posts for a GaaS title yesterday. Hope Sony dont lean too heavily into this side of things
I guess live service Killzone would make sense.
@Rob_230 It's certainly something missing from the overall Sony portfolio - GaaS - but as you say, it should be the right size in terms of part of their overall range. With two of their biggest studios on it that should be more than enough...
@Rob_230 @Marquez There’s Destruction All-Stars too!
@nessisonett I've changed my mind. No more GaaS plix Sony kk thx bai.
@Marquez Sony's recent attempts with GaaS/online-only games just weren't great, and they know it, yet they still insist on continuing making them. Just look at what happened with Hardware Rivalds, Drawn to Death, Predator, Destruction All Stars, Tommorrow Children, etc.
Sony should just stick with single player games with multiplayer components/modes. Ghost of Tsushima with Legends and Bloodborne are good examples.
Socom inbound on PS5
@SoulsBourne128 A very good point.
@Jacko11 please no they need give us a new kill zone
“Live service experience” killed any enthusiasm I may have had for a Guerrilla game.
@4kgk2 Socom has been rumoured in development at Guerilla for at least 3 years now
@Jacko11 hopefully the rumors not true Sony has to many third person shooters as it is they need some first person shooters.
@4kgk2 the rumour is that it’ll switch to first person. And will become PlayStations flagship FPS to fill the game in their portfolio
@Rob_230 Oh, I'm fully expecting that they are. Insomniac was hiring for one as well. Naughty Dog's been working on theirs for quite some time now, and who knows when we'll see anything else from them. In any case, turning away from the single-player experiences that have defined PlayStation for generations to chase after the failing and inconsistent GaaS model is ABSOLUTELY something I would expect from Jim Ryan in his ongoing quest to run PlayStation into the ground.
M.A.G. please..this really needs putting out on the ps5..🤞
Cool, I already don’t want to play it.
Live service and platform exclusive don't add up too well. You want your audience to be as big as possible, so unless it's going to be on PC, Xbox and Switch day one, don't even bother.
It's gonna be another game that's killed a year after it releases.
@Marquez For me its something i can live without. I know its horrible a complete game from day one i hope its a shooter that are the games i can wait a few months to buy for half the price or less.
@PhantomMenace84 Dont make feel more sad already if thats the case Nintendo is the only one left for complete releases. Atleast i have a backlog to keep me busy for a few years.
@Jacko11 here’s hoping 💪🏻
The industry needs to chill on the GaaS type games. Half of them are either mediocre or get just straight up boring.
Sonys plans have been pretty clear - a move to focus more of games as a service. A move to build up psnow at the expensive of quality of psplus. And increased pc support.
They all go hand in hand. And basically follow in the footsteps of Microsoft.
I don't much care for games as a service...but the obvious aim to to keep a player base invested - who Sony would prefer to be paying a subscription on top.
With more multiplayer focused games, combined with an increased pc ports, I really hope we see the MP paywall removed for such cross-platform/cross-play games in the future. Or at the VERY least I wanna hear from playstation/Xbox how my being charged for online play offers a different quality experience than those playing these same games on PC.
@Bleachedsmiles pretty sure Sony sees MS strength in service and has to at least keep a foot in the door.
That being said. I never cared for MMOs or service games. Games that basically have no ending. Personally I have too much variance in my gaming.
Always thought of Live and PSN as a free bundle of games every year + online optional play for the price of a couple cheap games. Usually get my hours out of one or two of those freebies every year to make it more than worth it even if 75% of it is trash I’ll never play.
@MasterEMFG Yeah many people do - and that's fine. But the fact remains that were being charged up to £70 for a game that has locked content unless you pay an additional monthly charge - the premise is crazy (and why it never took off on pc when ms tried to charge pc players for gold years back)...more so when those exact same games are released with no locked content on another platform. This is only going to become more obvious as more playstation games have mp.
So yeah, I get the comfort of convincing yourself that the games that come with plus/gold balance things out. But there's still no option there to not have to pay extra in order to get the full content you've already paid for...that PC gamers do get 'out of the box'. Console gamers are still being charged more...why? I really hope we all started asking why as this generation goes on.
@Bleachedsmiles we have been asking this question for almost a year now with the introduction of the ps5 and the outrageous pricing of its games..its a divisive topic as some gamers think its acceptable (they do really) and the more rational thinkers amongst us cant fathom out why especially the digital versions are so expensive..banging our heads against a brick wall i fear..
@Northern_munkey when I say 'we' I don't particularly mean people like you and I in forums. I mean publications like ign ect who actually get to speak to these people directly...I remember Phil Spencer saying how 'removing barriers' and allowing games to 'be experienced by everybody' in regards to pc day and date, benefits us all as gamers... Yet nobody with an actual voice brings him up on the fact that they're still pushing multiplayer paywalls for their console player base. He was just telling us on the 20year anniversary how much he 'valued' us - yet treats differently/worse.
It's akin to you and I living on the same street...identical houses, but you get charged more rent cause 'i value you'.
It's not fair to say we have no voice...when we come together as a collective and vote with our wallets we're proven to be heard. But it just takes a lot longer than somebody with a direct line to them.
Right now we're in a weird place. You question anything you get labelled a 'hater'...as the majority of the conversation about increased pc ports is focused on lack of hardware exclusives devaluing that hardware. There's no room for a different take on why something doesn't add up for console players.
Or...you question anything that could possible be conceived as playstation criticism and you get vocal minority defence force out who would cut their nose off to spite their face than question anything that may need changing on PlayStation.
@Bleachedsmiles i gave you a like as your reply was an intelligent one..theres not a lot i can add to be fair..
Hard pass on this title, but I hope it performs well enough for them.
@Royalblues if it is the future, then it seems one day I'll stop playing video games and I think I'm not the only one.
