Star Ocean: The Divine Force didn't leave the greatest first impression in Sony's latest State of Play showcase, but we're still more than willing to give the JRPG a shot. Following on from the initial announcement trailer, Square Enix has today published additional footage focusing on some of the environments and locations you'll be able to explore. Check them out above, and don't forget the game hits PlayStation 5 and PS4 at some point next year.
We catch glimpses of green fields, beautiful cities, and far-future metropolises. Then there's what looks like a desert area, caves, and some sort of factory. We also see inside a space station. Are you looking forward to playing Star Ocean: The Divine Force in 2022? Share your thoughts on these new locales in the comments below.

This looks absolutely terrible
I'm still sour they're refusing to show some remaster love to Radiata Stories.
Okay I don't know if it's just my eyesight getting worse or if it's just square enix games lately... but... this and most recently Stranger of Paradise... just look, I don't know, fuzzy?
Is it the video format they are choosing or what? I tried the first demo for Stranger of Paradise and needed to turn it off because the wheat field or grass or whatever was just blurry and fuzzy and really unpleasant to look at.
I WANT to give this a shot, I'll always take more Jrpgs but like could they not look like this?
Let's hope this will be a much better game than the last one, which was just horrible.
I really like the visual style, always have with Star Ocean games. I just hope some lessons were learned from SO5. I am looking forward to this one though, and I can play Elden Ring whilst I wait for this to come down in price
Hopefully they have learn how to do vast areas from the mistakes made in FF15 but this series doesn't have the budget of final fantasy or dragon quest, which is a shame as given a budget similar to 7 remake star ocean could be epic.
Some of this was in the reveal trailer already. Either way the locations they've shown so far look stunning. I hope they fix that extremely awkward super jump or hovering mechanic thingy so exploring those places doesn't feel bad
Yep, looks like Star Ocean.
Whilst as a fan I can let it slide (a tiny bit), I do feel they need to improve the visuals moving forward
It looks horrible, but on the other the side it can't be worse than the last game.
Looking really good. Still think this was easily the best thing to come out of that State of Play. I just hope we can really explore the cities because in SO5 the cities felt like pretty corridors with inaccessible areas/buildings
I'm kind of looking forward to this, I completed star ocean 1-4, but I haven't played much of 5, it doesn't hook me as much as the others did, hopefully tri-ace will actually make a decent game again.
The areas look quite nice to me, not sure why people think they look terrible.
Still star ocean, I've not finished the last couple, the last hope I did get really far, bit hit a bump at some boss, took a break and never returned. The PS4 one I didn't play for very long at all, can't remember why, maybe I should give it another go.
Any trailer that doesn't have the mongoloid main character is an improvement over trailers with mongoloid.
@Shadcai It's not the same team. Tri-Ace make the SO games. Square Enix is a massive company, it's not just one dev team. But yeah, I still agree with the sentiment. JRPGs struggle in that way; they either make the areas massive and empty like FFXV or the whole world is just corridors like FFX, FFXIII and even the recent Tales of Arise.
That city in the video above looks amazing but I really hope you can properly explore it and that it's not just 2 streets with 3 buildings (again, like in Tales of Arise).
I'm still looking forward to it, been an avid Star Ocean fan since I was introduced to the franchise way back in 2005-2006 with Til The End of Time.
Star ocean hasn't been having a good run lately... I'm keeping expectations in check. It looks beautiful in panoramas, but gameplay and pacing... We'll see.
