This has been rumoured for a little while, but now it's official: MultiVersus is Warner Bros' answer to Super Smash Bros. The game is a platform fighter, meaning you'll secure victory by knocking opponents off-screen, and it's set to feature a varied range of well-known characters.

The likes of Batman, Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Superman, Steven Universe, and Shaggy are all part of the initial roster, alongside many others. You can see them all in action in the above video, which goes over the basics of what the game is.

Developer Player First Games says that co-op play is the main priority, and it's giving each character options for collaborative moves so you can fight effectively as a team. For example, Bugs and his teammate can use a tunnel through the ground, while Steven Universe will give allies a shield. Even though team modes are the focus, you'll be able to play solo as well.

One notable difference between MultiVersus and Smash β€” or Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl to give a PlayStation example β€” is that it'll be free-to-play. Coming to PS5 and PS4, this will be a live service game, with new characters, arenas, and events being introduced over time, putting it more in line with something like Brawlhalla. Oh, and unlike the Nicktoons fighter, this will feature full voice acting with many returning actors.

It's launching next year, will support cross-play between all platforms, and features rollback netcode for smooth online bouts. It all looks pretty promising to us, but what do you think? Tell us in the comments section below.
